Venja |
I don't know.... strength with hair is a 16, so unless you're heavily armored, I could probably lift you....
"'Lara, you want up?"
DM Variel |
Feeling the effects of the combat going against her Nahzena casts a final spell covering the area around Duardlara in driving sleet. The effect extends for a 40 ft radius blocking all sight even darkvision and forcing people to make a DC 10 acrobatics check to be able to move even at half speed. The effect is only 20ft high though so Venja is out of the effect but can't see those in it. Nahzena then flies 60 ft to the south trying to escape.
Good guys up
Beck you are unable to see the witch currently but the window did open up easily for you.
Greta is too heavy to lift but with a 16 str I would allow a lithe elven rogue to be lifted up.
Venja |
Venja extends her hair, feels around in the ice storm for Duardlara and lifts her up out of the area to above the storm...
assume that takes the whole round? but if not, will spend movement following the witch
Duardlara Frostborn |
Let's proceed with Venja lifting D'lara. I will trust our Adam to describe the when and how, especially considering the use of the sleet storm.
Helgash |
We cannot lose! Venus herself is on our side! :D
I am back peoples, and slowly getting back into the pace.
Not sure if I channeled last round - would do so only if it would not affect any of our foes:
Channel: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4
This would mean (last round):
- Jetro would heal 5 from Life Link + 4 from the channel
- Everyone in range would heal 4 from the channel
- Helgash would heal 8 from the channel and lose 5 from the Life Link
Acrobatics: 1d20 - 6 ⇒ (2) - 6 = -4
Roaring, Helgash tries to push against the spell, but is unable to move from where he stands - "Is there nothing we can do against this wretch my friends!?" - his voice is filled with frustration - "Beck! We need you! Venja, are there no alternatives to your crossbow?! We need to be on our best! NOW!"
Variel, do I need to roll Acrobatics even if for a 5' step? :P
Greta Silvermane |
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
Greta's roar echoes Helgash's frustration, but she presses on after Nahzena - "You will not escape me!"
Variel, I don't think she can move out of the effect? Is the maximum she can cover correspondent to a half move? She will move as close to Nazhena as much as possible? She is 20' high, right?
Beck Tavis |
I can't get to her, and I'm out of magic! Sheelah go! Track Beck orders, and starts summoning
acrobatics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Sheelah moves as far as she can along the way should hit T:18
once she gets through the spell, she will sprint at her.
Duardlara Frostborn |
Wow, cross-posted with Venja and didn't see her action, then introduced Adam into the game while the DM (who is apparently Adam as that's who I was referring to) brings Venus in to shore up to the good guys. Eventful!
Totally understand if Venja chooses to pursue, I can try to acrobatics out.
DM Variel |
Stupid Ipad autocorrect with Venja. You would think by now it would have recognized that word and not switched it out.
While in the sleet storm the fastest you can move is at half speed per move action with a successful acrobatics 10 check.
As such you are all in the effect still at the end of this turn. Nahzena will be flying at a speed of 60 ft a move action wo will be able to escape from you for now. Also since she is flying there is no real way to track her even with scent as the air will dissipate the smell quickly. She will not forget this and will come searching for you at some point. You may have gotten the Hut for now but I will exact my revenge still for my lover. Then you will pay for the crimes against the crown and against me.
I will give Duardlara a single shot though to hit with her bow since she can see Nahzena before she gets around the trees.. If she crits then you have a chance at stopping her other wise the combat will be over.
Duardlara Frostborn |
Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5
Tsk, didn't really think it would work, but...
Muttering, "There's a nice parting gift for you."
Venja |
Venja aims her final lightning bolt at the witch, before she disappears behind trees.
ltnng bolt: 6d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 6, 1, 4, 3) = 21 save for half DC 18
Venja |
damn so close
Helgash |
Helgash moves away from the sleet.
(This will probably take a while :P)
I'll wait for everyone to confirm their hp status, but will probably channel again once all are near.
"I cannot believe she has escaped" - Helgash growls, staring in frustration.
Was planning on having Greta change into Winter Wolf and use breath weapon, but I'm not sure she can catch Nazhena, or if she isn't immune to cold :P
Venja |
that and vomit swarm were my last 2 ranged spells... and i couldn't do the swarm because party members were too close and she was flying and the lightning bolt just forgot about it to be honest...
DM Variel |
Too bad the save succeeded Venja otherwise that would have been a good parting shot.
Jetro you see no way to break the shackle that is holding the Hut in place.
You see a creature materialize in the main room of the Hut. It seemed to come from one of the stone making up the hearth of the fireplace. The creature appears to be a hunched, old crone with a long bird's beak, donkey ears, horns, and stringy black hair. She wears a peasant's dre s s with a red shawl tied tightly around her wizened head, but these articles do not disguise her clawed hands or the scaly bird talons that are her feet. immediately you lose sight of her though as she casts invisibility on herself.
Duardlara Frostborn |
Duardlara, seeing the witch disappear, returns to the thought of freeing the hut. She slowly makes her way through the artificial winter storm. Unless Venja just flies me over and sets me down, of course.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
Studying the shackle holding the hut, she wonders aloud, "She's going to come back, probably with reinforcements, and we are far from fresh. What are we going to do with the Hut? Where can we hope to hide it?"
She will literally try ten times rather than taking 10 or 20. I have to see if I can get over a four. Not knowing how difficult a lock it is, I don't know how long each attempt will take, so I'm going to throw some d4s out and let Variel use what's necessary.
Disable Device vs shackles: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (3) + 16 = 19 1d4 ⇒ 21d4 ⇒ 4

Beck Tavis |
perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (13) + 14 = 27
Aaah! InvisibleBirdDonkeyLady! Bech shouts,
perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30 to pinpoint her then...
he fires off a Faerie Fire where she disappeared.
Sheelah get in here! Everybody overhere! Beck hollers.
DM Variel |
With a multicolored flare of light originating from her finger tips Duardlara as soon as you touch the shackles they fall off the chicken leg. The power bestowed upon those who have any of the Riders' blessing is enough to break the bond holding the Hut in place. Free from its chain the Hut gives a small shake and kick of the leg as if it is enjoying its freedom.
Beck you target the creature and see the outline of the thing before it utters a phrase and disappears from sight, faerie fie and all.
Venja |
Venja flies Duardlara over to the hut, along with herself, sets the pair of them down just before 'Lara touches the chain...
With the hut free, Venja breaks into a grin.
"Sorry I couldn't stop her, guys... that was my most potent spell and she shook off part of the effect, enough to save her life I think."
She turns to the hut and tilts her head to one side. "The rider sent us... may we enter?"
Duardlara Frostborn |
Duardlara jumps back with a start as the shackles fall. Reaching down, she nudges the shackles as if to confirm that they are real.
Shaking her head, she says, "The shackles are loose! The Hut is free!" She grabs her gear that has been dropped in the scrum and heads into the Hut, thinking Jetro's advice is sound.
"Who is who, Beck?"
DM Variel |
As everyone is in the Hut or at the front entrance to see in...
Bundles of dried herbs hang from the rafters of this comfortable looking room, and along the walls are numerous shelves holding a bewildering variety of glass jars, bottles, and vials containing all manner of strange magical components and alchemical ingredients. A massive cauldron sits in the middle of the room. No fire burns under the pot, but the liquid within bubbles and churns and white fumes rise and lap over the brim. A large stove, writing desk, book case, and fireplace complete the room along with a number of crates, barrels, and sacks. a short flight of steps leads up to a set of double doors in the north wall and a small ladder climbs to a trap door in the ceiling in the northeast corner. Two windows flank the door to the south revealing the frigid snow outside. Looking up you can see Beck in the rafters as he points to the fireplace where the mysterious creqture appeared and then disappeared then appeared under fairie fire then disappeared again.
Map of Hut in profile without you all there yet as you can be where ever you want.
Duardlara Frostborn |
Duardlara watches the fireplace hoping to figure out who or what has spooked the druid.
Venja |
Venja enters the hut and looks around in rapt wonder at the interior of the place... going close enough to look into the cauldron. (she'll fly up if it's too big to just peer in from the side.)
Beck Tavis |
Back takes a deep breath and explains. This woman showed up, with a red cloak, a bird beek, claws, horns, and donkey ears. Appeared out of nowhere. I mother up with a faire fire but she vanished again...
nature: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30
Sheelah
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 with scent
Venja |
"Really? how intriguing!" Venja walks over to the fireplace and peers into the fire...
"Hello? Is someone there? We come meaning no harm to you or the hut."
Helgash |
Helgash and Greta stand ready to strike at any creature showing to be aggressive towards the group.
I still think your hp are off Jetro.
DM Variel |
Beck you recognize the creature as a form of kikamora, a type of fey creature that cleans and protects houses of their choosing. While not normally violent they will be aggressive if someone invades what Ithen consider is their house. Of particular interest is the way they live in such dwellings. They are able. Inscribe a rundown a permanent surface on the house. The rune then creates a small extra dimensional space that they can live in. They can also see out of the rune as though through a one way window. As long as they are in the room they can return to the extradimensional space as a standard action.
Venja there is no answer to your calling.
Duardlara Frostborn |
With that knowledge shared, Duardlara will relax about the live-in maid and return to the other question bothering her: "OK, we have the hut. And we have a hostile ice queen who may soon return with reinforcements. What are we supposed to do now?"
Duardlara Frostborn |
"You know, it's smart enough to recognize us - I guess that's why it let us in - maybe we can just ask it to go somewhere. Or maybe it has to do with the cauldron."
Smart or not, she's obviously just guessing.
"But where do we want it to go? I didn't take the oath, I inherited it - how do we fulfill it?"
DM Variel |
Right now to your best knowledge there is no way to control the Hut. While you assume it recognizes those with the mantle of the Dark Rider, (or other 2 riders) that is still an assumption. There are other areas of the Hut to explore and search that may lead to other information. You have not searched this area either as you were too worried about Beck's disappearing house guest.
