"I think that detect undead would be a bit of a given just about now, Hailey. I think that the best course would be to send the stealthiest people forward with the rest lurking back far enough to not be noticed, but close enough to help should there be problems"

Sir Rois Grave |

"I can escort Hailey to the skeleton to get a closer look."
aka...we both stealth and I aid another to increase your rolls. Wen we get within 60ft, you can cast your spell.

"Yes, it may just be a skeleton placed there, but this is Ustalav, and we are chasing a necromancer. So... no. I would not feel silly if I am proven wrong.
I just reread my last post.. and it sounded really harsh. I apologize, that was not anywhere near what I meant

Vorelloex Vaecaesin |

"Kervrekvils... Hey, that's obviously not just a skeleton... We are dealing with a warlock... Full skeletons aren't just found like that in the wilds anyways... At least not in my mountains..."
Vorelloex draws his flail, and begins to slowly approach the bear, with the scouts.

Sorry about your bad roll, Vorelloex. It's the kind of roll I expected Hailey to get, not you. Maybe next time you'll get natural 20. :)
Hailey wants to be at a much closer range to cast her spell, so that's why she's tagging along. Normally, she won't. But I can't speak for any of the others.

Vorelloex Vaecaesin |

Thanks Hailey. It's okay, I like it when things go wrong sometimes. Makes it more interesting.
Vorelloex is following them, because he knows that thing isn't just a motif, and thinks it's silly that it's just them approaching it. He's following them so he can smite it as it animates. Hunter's instinct and experience and all that. Also he just really wants to hit something...

Sir Rois Grave |

Rois shakes his head at Vorel and continues to sneak forward. He shows Hailey which patches of ground to avoid.

Calistria the Courier |

"A silver says, if that is an undead skeleton bear, it either notices them and we need to charge in or they trigger some sort of warning before." Calistria leans in and whispers to Garekk as she watches the others "sneak" forward.

![]() |

Gare chuckles at Calista's offer. "Although I have faith that we will prevail, I believe that would be a foolish wager for me and easy money for you.. should we move up to join them?"

Swift-Palm |

Swift looks back to see Garrek and Calistria whispering. He motions for them to join the rest of the party.
"No sense in splitting up. We have strength in numbers. I believe we have the strength to defeat this monstrosity.", he says in a hushed voice.

Calistria the Courier |

"I suppose we should." Calistria follows along behind Garekk. His bulk might protect her and, after all what use is travel if one cannot also enjoy the view?
Stealth check!: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
For now, I'll stay one square behind Garekk unless her charges. I'm on my iPad so the spreadsheet isn't working for me. If need be, I'll move myself later when I get to my laptop.

Calistria the Courier |

Why is Calistria so good at being stealthy? Because she uses big, noisy people for cover! Everyone sees/hears them so she isn't noticed! :) More seriously, sorry Garekk. I really should have used my luck domain power on you for this.

Calistria the Courier |

Setting this up in advance. Assuming the skeleton bear isn't destroyed by the time Calistria's turn comes around, she'll cast Guidance on Garekk to give him a +1 competence bonus on any single attack roll, saving throw or skill check of his choice during the next minute (6 rounds)
Calistria speaks softly, praying to her divine patron as she places her hand firmly on Garekk's back. A sparkle of illusory butterflies, like tiny shaped, purple and pink lights spiral around her arm and sink into Garekk to give him Desna's blessing.
"Goddess Desna, please bless my friend so he may destroy that which brings fear to a night that should be full of wonder."

Hailey decides to do what she set out to do, and casts "Detect Undead" in the 60 ft. cone pointed directly at the cave and, if she can, any area behind it.
The spell lasts for one minute at her level, and over the next period of rounds, reveals to her:
1: Presence or absence of the undead.
2: Number of the undead, and the strength of the strongest one present.
3: The strength and location of every undead. She can discern directions but not exact locations.
So, at the very least, Hailey will be able to tell you approximately how many undead you're going to be dealing with here.

Browman |

Hailey determines that there is at least one undead within 60ft.
The bear charges Swift Palm, and attempts to bite him.
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
The Skeleton's jaws close around Swift Palm's left arm, drawing blood and dealing 6 points of damage to him.
Everyone else can act before the bear goes again.

Sir Rois Grave |

Rois moves around the bear to flank with Swift Assuming he is still conscious. He silently jabs his spear into the area that use to hold the bear's heart.

Oh ya. Duh...

Swift-Palm |

Swift gasps in pain as he is bitten by the undead beast.
"You shall not harm anyone!" Swift vows.
He punches the bear with a flurry of his fists.

Skeletons Have DR/ bludgeoning still. Though a magic weapon will also ignore that, at least for relatively basic skeletons.
