Father Raphael |
"I found an indentation of some sort!" Raphael calls to his companions. He then pulls out his traveler's any tool, turns it into a shovel, and starts digging, humming to himself.
Suzumaru Viskillian |
"Oh! Nice tool."Suzumaru states, as she wanders over the to pit that Father Raphael is digging. She places her hands behind her back, leans back on her heals and watches the priest work.
Andross Stern |
Seeing that Raphael was doing all the work, Andross steps by him, reaches into his bag of holding, and pulls out his OWN traveler's any tool and starts digging right beside the priest. After a while, you begin to see that the sand was indeed hiding something: a long passageway. This passageway is about 10’ high and constructed from plain blocks of stone. At the far end you can just make out the outline of two doors at the very end of the long corridor.
Stopping his work after a passageway that all of you can walk through comfortably, Andross smiles back at you all. "Will you look at that. We found it."
Raphael, I will assume you started digging in the indentation you found, noit the one Suzumaru did. For everyone else, Tomb Rules now apply. You move only up to your speed, and mark every square you move in (1=the first five feet, 2=the next five feet, etc) If you don't want to move into a room, post it here so I know that your turn has concluded. That is all.
Father Raphael |
Nodding his thanks to Andross, Raphael smiles. "Handy little tool, isn't it?"
Once everybody has gathered in his general vicinity, he carefully moves forward. Move and a half. So effectively a double move.
He then looks around for any obvious traps.
Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (9) + 13 = 22
Suzumaru Viskillian |
"Are those doors? Should we knock?"queries Suzumaru, while moving up to the door and raising her hand. Waiting for a response, before knocking on the door.
Jean Begnoche |
Jean nods in agreement with Hamish's words.
While I am against simply standing outside all day, it does seem likely that if he's as powerful as he seems there will probably be something else down there.
Father Raphael |
Yeah, I didn't notice the smaller squares originally, so my original movement was wrong, I think. I think what you changed it to was fine. Either way, it's a 40 foot move, which I think puts me next to Suzumaru.
Father Raphael |
Now that Raphael is closer to the distance he meant to be when searching for traps, he does so again.
Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (9) + 13 = 22 And manages to get the exact same roll.
If he doesn't find any traps, he will open the door without stepping through.
Suzumaru Viskillian |
Suzumaru follows Raphael generally one step behind ready to touch him with a spell if needed. She also looks around for any traps, making sure to not only check the floor, as humans tend to ignore the areas above them.
Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (4) + 13 = 17

Okay, as Raphael swings open the door... he finds himself faced with a brick wall as in, the door actually had a brick wall behind it. Raphael, you notice a small wire break at around eye level that looks like it was attached to the door, and all of a sudden, you hear a horrible crashing noise, and then a screech as if stone were rubbing against stone.
[spoiler=DC 20 Perception]A chute opened right above Jean's head, and a large boulder seems to be gradually sliding down the chute, threatening to close you off from your allies outside.

Half expecting the wall (or ceiling) to collapse on top of him, Raphael hastily moves backwards, frowning at the apparent dead end. "Did anybody else find anything? This seems to be a dead end. And judging by those sounds and the broken wire, a trapped one."
Andross Stern |
I almost forgot Suzumaru wasn't here.
Well, since the two of you ran, she and Harvey will run out of the cavern as well. As soon as you all reach the outside, the rock that was sliding down above where Jean was standing not seconds before, slides down and blocks the entrance entirely.
Andross whistles at the scene. "That was highly disappointing. So this was just a false entrance. Looks like Acererak is either playing some sort of game, or he truly does want to be left alone. Knowing liches, I'd say it's the former rather than the latter."
Since you all said you ran out immediately, no need for reflex saves to avoid being trapped in. This trap works better in person, where I'm supposed to count down from 5, but hey, some things don't translate well. What will you all do now?"
Father Raphael |
"Well, while I was looking around over here, did anybody else find anything?"
If we assume Suzumaru mentions her little indentation, Raphael will go over there and start digging. If not, he will continue his random searching.
Doombringer the DM |
Well, Andross isn't going to let you work alone, so he helps you dig out the second entrance, working beside you until you have a decent sized walkway.
The corridor revealed beneath the dirt is made from plain flagstones, roughly hewn and fitted together. The ceiling is about 20 feet above your head and thickly strewn with cobwebs. The passage is about 30 feet
long and at the far end is a pair of large, wooden double doors with great iron pull-rings.
The area is revealed on roll20
Father Raphael |
Raphael waits for everybody to be in his general area and then asks, "Anybody have a torch? These cobwebs might be hiding a spider or two. I'm thinking of lighting them on fire to be safe."
If no one objects, he will do that and then walk into the hallway and check the door/area near the door for traps. If someone does object, he'll shrug and walk in anyway, but keep a wary eye on the ceiling as well, in case spiders attack.
Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (9) + 13 = 22
Father Raphael |
Ah right! I thought there was something I was forgetting to specify. Here are some options in the order in which Raphael might attempt them.
1) Ask if anybody has mage hand
2) Ask Andross to fly up there
3) Toss the torch
4) Climb up there
5) Summon a celestial eagle
Doombringer the DM |
I'll start rolling perception checks off of this site from here on out. Just remember to specify exactly where you search either here, or put an S on the square you search in roll20. Everyone, I'd like you to add your Perception modifier to your class/levels part of your profile so I can have easy access to it.
Hamish, you notice that, after looking at the door and the way the rocks above you are set up, opening it will likely set off a chain reaction in which the rocks will crumble on top of you.
Father Raphael |
Assuming that Hamish points the trap out before Raphael opens the door.
Raphael strokes his chin in thought (it looks a tad weird given that he's still wearing his helmet). "Hmmm, it looks like the doors open outwards. Should we tie a rope to one end and trigger the trap remotely? Or should we look for another entrance? My main concern is that if we trigger it remotely, the rocks will likely block our access to the door anyway. And I doubt my little tool here will help much with clearing away the rubble."
Jean Begnoche |
If it's a boulder trap I doubt it's a true entrance anyway. You don't build an entrance that goes anywhere without expecting people to go through it, and if it's for people to go through you wouldn't smash them with a boulder. I think the rope is a wonderful idea.
