Although much of the Accursed Halls was overrun by goblins and the undead remnants of recent explorers, the third level of the dungeon remains largely untouched. Back in the days of Nhur Athemon, the wizard used this layer of his underground complex as a laboratory for all manner of experiments both arcane and alchemical. Only his most trusted servants were allowed into this layer and beyond.
Now, the sanctum known as the Forgotten Laboratory is home to new dangers. Vast rewards await those who can overcome the dungeon’s hazards, but the cowardly or incompetent can look forward to only a swift death — or worse.

The story assumes that you descended from area A16, a room in the upper level.
The narrow staircase ends in a short corridor leading to a large chamber, the center of which is dominated by a pool of stagnant water. An oily sheen covers most of pool, causing it to reflect a multitude of colors onto the walls and ceiling. The only light in this room emanates from a faintly glowing orb attached to the ceiling, and an acrid stench wafts heavily in the air. There is a simple wooden door in the eastern wall, and a set of ornate stone double doors to the south flanked by a pair of sandstone statues.
The s andstone statues to the south were once s culpted in the likeness of Nhur Athemon, but their features are now obscured and covered in cobwebs and dust. The light in the center of the room is a simple glass orb spreading light from an arcane source.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Xoricon draws his spear and casts Light on it, just in case the orb does something. "I sense something, but I know not what...beware that water, though."
He gestures about. "On your lookout, and let me know if anyone can determine the magic in here. I can open those doors from afar if need be. Or close them, should someone unwelcome enter." He takes a moment to smooth his mustachios, ready for anything.

"Looks to me like that oil is moving around. Shouldn't be happening since the water is calm. Everyone be on the lookout."

Ashara smiles at the others perfectly serene, calm and sure there's nothing wrong whatsoever with the water. So she looks surprised when Henrik warns the group:"Are you sure? I would have sworn there was nothing out of the ordinary with the water..."

Kyra casts a light spell upon the naked blade of her scimitar, then asking her goddess for further guidance she casts detect magic. Then she inspects the room.

Tuca advances into the room and suddenly the oily film rises and tries to reach Tuca.

Xoricon slips past Tuca, spear in hand, and begins to recite from a Galtian play with a rousing cry. "This foul beast is just slops of the midden, friends! Let us end its misery," says the bard, continuing on with his recital.

Henrik takes aim at the ooze, feeling Ashara's power guide his aim. He squeezes off a shot...

After Ashara casted a spell at Henrik and inspired by Xoricon's song Henrik shoots at the ooze and hits. Also Sarvin hits while Henrik tries to recall information about this creature.
Henrik knows that the creature is a grey ooze, a seemingly mundane puddle. It is immune against cold and fire. Hitting it is easy, but its hits are dangerous. acidic

Tuca shoots an arrow at the mass on the pool and hits. The grey mass moves out of the pool and tries to slam at Henrik. The ozze's liquid 'arm' hits the wall.

Xoricon stabs at the ooze and makes another hole in the ooze's surface. Ashara casts a spell on Henrik again and Henrik sinks another bullet into the grey mass. You can see the liquid already falling apart, but the ooze still moves.

Kyra begins to regret not living in ancient times when dungeon corridors where 10-feet wide and nobody needed miniatures.
"Duck!!" Kyra loudly warns Ashara and then lets fly her sling bullet fly.
sling: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21 damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 Good arm! The Yankees' might be interested in her for next season.

"Er, and the sling, Kyra," says the bard bashfully. "Taldor does honor the fairer sex," he continues, wedging the boot further in his mouth.
Taldor is sexist, let's face it. It's no Andoran.

Sarving attacks the ooze once more and hits. While Kyra Tuca moves back Kyra hurls a sling stone at the ooze. With a strange gargling noise the ooze stops to move and disposes on the floor and back into the pool.

The pool is 3 ft. deep and filled with an oily sludge.
You uncover a stone disc beneath the sludge.

Ashara casts a worried look at the others:"So far so good I guess... but certainly this made clear this place is inhabited and dangerous. We should be careful in choosing our course. A mistake could very well prove fatal"

Then she points at the pool:"I think... I think I see something beneath that puddle of slime?"
