Vigar sees his spear bounce off thing thing and knowing he couldn't clear the ring of zombies anyway, stopped to pick up the spear from the Golden Dragon tabard wearing zombie.

"My apologies, I may have need of this now at this time to vanquish that thing." Now rearmed, he prepares to enter battle.

Vigar:
As you pick up the spear you feel as if someone has peered deeply into your soul, judged you ... and found you worthy. Carved up and down the shaft you can now read these words To every man upon this earth Death cometh soon or late. And how can man die better Than facing fearful odds For the ashes of his fathers And the temples of his gods...

Round 1: Actions
Move Action: Move behind Rowan
Standard Action: Use thunderstaff again

Tassira's hands crackle with electricity once more. She could only throw acid at the zombie leader... but Rowan could still try to harm it.

Well, if he had magic at his command. Or an augmented weapon.

She lays a hand on Rowan's fauchard. More sparks fly.

She says nothing, but eyes the lead zombie with a cold glare.

Thunderstaff Uses Remaining: 3/7

Group One: Everyone but Rowan and the Undead
Group Two: The Undead
Group Three: Rowan

Four zombies 'die'.

Tassira charges Rowan's weapon with power.

Vigar picks up the spear from the zombie

Kariel casts cure light wounds and holds it.

The wight answers Kariel "Fool! I have mastered death itself! I shall drink of all your souls, and you shall serve me for all eternity!"

"Forget the peasants, kill what male adventurers you have to, but keep the female spellcasters alive, they have a taste of power about them and I would drink of it." Commands the wight to the undead.

The zombies release the villiagerss (who then flee) and attack.

The wight attacks Captain Miles 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 for damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2 and the Captain screems as part of life force is drained away!

Zombie slam 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 for damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 vs Krag

Zombie slam 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 for damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 vs Rowan

The zombies somehow miss every one.

3 zombies and the Wight left, Krag down 5 hit points (from fight at the Inn), Captain miles down 12 hit points (2 now, 10 from fight at the Inn) and he's gain a negative level

Rowan up to finish ROUND ONE

Then everyone else gets to take ROUND TWO actions before the Undead can act.

"Undead one, Your flight from death ends here and you'll not touch my family." Power gathers up his arm in a visible Red corona as he unleashes it after summoning a part of his very own spirit through the spear and towards his foe "Bloodstrike!!!"

Vigar:

Kariel responded as quickly as she could, pushing out her palm and pressing it against Captain Miles' back to infuse him with the vital energy that she'd been charging up. Round 2: Actions
Move Action: Move behind Vigar before he attacks
Standard Action: Power up his new spear with thunderstaff

Tassira never stops glaring at the wight. There's no witty banter, no oaths, no observations.

All she does is touch Vigar's spear. The tip begins sparking. She can feel her power reaching its limit.

She gives the leader the finger as she does so.

Thunderstaff Uses Remaining: 2/7

Vigar feels the spear fairly tingle with power and now even more as Tassira adds a bit of herself into it. The rush of exhilaration fills him as his blood sings, adding itself to his strike.
"Rowan." He states, his voice deeper. "Sword." Rowan was quick on the uptake and would catch his hint seeing that he was already engaging the fiend as well.

In case it's not clear, Vigar is telling Rowan to take up the greatsword.

END OF ROUND ONE

Rowan's weapon enhanced by Tassira's magic clearly hurts the creature badly.

ROUND TWO

Kariel heals Captain Miles

Tassira empowers Vigar's new spear

Vigar slams his new spear through the wight's body as both holy light and electricty dance over the undead shock damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4

Suddenly the evil light fades from the corpse's eyes, and it sags to the ground. A spinning ball of green witch-fire leaps out of the body and streaks away to the south, disappearing in the thick tangle of trees. The other zombies slow and stop, some even sink to their knees. After a long pause, the zombies awaken, and renew their attack.

At this point Brother Nicholas channels again 1d6 ⇒ 2

Krag strikes with a hand axe at a zombie 1d20 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 5 + 4 = 23 for damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Marrovak attacks a zombie as well his wolf 1d20 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 5 + 4 = 29 for damage: 2d4 + 5 ⇒ (1, 1) + 5 = 7

Wolf 1d20 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 2 + 4 = 20 for damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

All the remaining zombies go down.

OUT OF Combat

Kraig down 5 hit points
Captain Miles down 7 and with 1 negative level

With all the zombies and their leader dead, Tassira surveys the carnage. She notices that Captain Miles is having difficulty standing up: tangling with wights tends to do that to people.

She moves to support him. "Good job, all of you. Hopefully, that'll take care of any stragglers we missed."

Kariel continued to keep her hands on Captain Miles, regularly whispering under her breath to provide a steady stream of energy before turning to Krag and doing the same. It wasn't quite as fast as the stronger spell she had, but it was something she could do to help them, and she didn't plan on stopping until they were healthy once more.

Vigar pants as he recovers from unleashing his inner self. The beffort both trilling and exhausting. He examines the spear carefully studying it now that the zombies have all being taken down.

"Tassira, thank you for your aid. If not for the enchanting of the storm in our weapons, we might not have taken it down so fast. Much credit goes to the rest for their prowess."

The spear itself is marvellously well balanced and keen, thruming with its own power. Reading the runes carved up and down the shaft, the words
To every man upon this earth Death cometh soon or late.
And how can man die better
Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his gods...

He goes back to the two other zombies with the Tabards.
Kneeling before the one whose spear he borrowed, he sets it down and attempts to lay the zombie back to rest in its grave saying as he does so.
"In life you have lived your code, even in death you stay true to it. Such men like you I'd be joyful to have met. I'm returning your spear to you for such a weapon is not for a Legionare such as I. Allow me to return your remains to where they should be resting and not defiled."
Pausing to read the epitaph aloud.
"A knight is sworn to valour

His heart knows only virtue

His blade defends the helpless

His might upholds the weak

His word speaks only truth

His wrath undoes the wicked."

Vigar checks the area to ensure he is putting the remains of these once valiant warriors, slinging Rowan's Halberd over his back, intending to return it to him once this business is done. He'll place the spear he borrowed from, back into the zombies hands, and restore it to its resting place with great care (His intent is clear in this) and then pick up the greatsword to better arrange the other zombie back in its grave as best as he can.
Vigar will also try to read their gravestones and see if he can find out their names.
Also assuming that the others are tending to the fallen and wounded.

Once done, as he proceeds to rebury the zombies,
"Kariel, this ones fought the enemy with great valor, I would appreciate it if you could aid me in reciting prayers for them as I return them to their rightful rest. These were heros in life and in even in death, there still adhere to their code."

"I'd be happy to." the Aasimar said, her wings spreading wide as her halo continued to shine above her head. She clasped her hands together a moment later, quietly beginning to speak from her heart. "Empyreal ones, please guide these souls into the joys that you offer and continue to watch over them; grant mercy to those who did not have the chance to make amends for their wrongs, and help us to set aside our negative emotions, so that witnessing the dark does not turn us away from your light."

With that, the girl began to help with reburying the re-dead, paying no heed at all to the dirt and mud that soon got onto her clothing.

As you start to rebury the dead you don't make much progress before you realize you can hear the faint sounds of combat coming from the west.

Vigar looks up as Rowan speaks. He stay silent but for a moment, dirt still on his clothes and hands.
Turning to the still open graves, he speaks.
"It seems that I have need for your spear once more. My Brother here would have need of your noble companion's sword then. It seems we face more foes this day. I'll return once this threat has being done with and rebury you with the honor one such as you deserve." Indicating to Rowan the Greatsword held by the other.
"Rowan, take that sword. This two held true to a code in life, in death they stayed true and they fought together. Sword and Spear. Take the Sword and let us fight together as well like them. Their code speaks well of them. This day I shall do them proud as well."

Facing the fallen zombies in their graves, taking up the spear once more. Vigar Intones.
"This Day, I swear to to Valour
My Heart Shall Learn Virtue
My Spear defends the Helpless
My Might upholds the Weak
My Words Shall Spreads the Truth
My Wrath Undos the Wicked."

Those words spoken as Vigar gives a legionare salute, Spear in hand.
"To the West we go!! Seems like Aid is needed."

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Vigar:
As you recite your oath, you feel a comforting hand on your shoulder and you hear three voices softly saying alongside of yours, one of the voices is quite close to tone and pitch as Rowan's: "A knight is sworn to valour

His heart knows only virtue

His blade defends the helpless

His might upholds the weak

His word speaks only truth

His wrath undoes the wicked."

As the oath is recited images of other places and deeds fill you head:

A teenager facing a horde of undead outside a small villiage with only a sword.

A tall man like creature with blue skin faces down a bar full of cretures, he wears a knee length leather coat, on which is pinned a silver star, in his hand is a strange weapon of some kind with wisps of smoke rising from the end.

In a dirty ally, in a mighty city, a small child crys in fright as she is menaces by an eldrich dog. But between the dog and the child flots a six inch pixie type creature with a thimble for a helmet and letter opener made of silver for a sword.

Bolts of energy rain down from flying craft in the sky. Where they hit people and things burn to a crisp in an instant but in the middle of the road with his hands stretched outward a young mage produces an energy shield which protects civilians

You can't understand the words but a talking squid like thing speaks to a crab like creature which recoils in pain.

A tall woman wearing not armor but a formal gown holds a katana two handed while standing over the body of her defeated foe.

"Till another needs its use it well"

Once you finish you realize that the spear wielding knight is resting in his grave holding the spear you used against the wight.

"It is never done." Kariel said quietly, folding her wings back as she straightened. She felt that was unfortunate, though not because of the labor required - rather, she regretted the fact that it was necessary for good to work against evil at all, since that meant that people were suffering. Such matters were outside of her ability to control, though, and with one last look at the gravestones - somehow, she was certain those words were important - she headed at a brisk pace towards the next area of battle. "Empyreal ones, let us be in time to help those who cannot help themselves..." she prayed softly.

We must move quickly if we are to save this village. Onwards then.

Rowan starts moving to the sounds of battle as well.

Rowan:
You can see that the blade is made of cold iron, as you pick it up, you feel as if something is peering deep into your soul and is weighing it ... the moment ends and you realize you have been found worthy. Along the blade you can now read these words This world is an uncertain realm filled with with danger. You are powerful blade. With a powerful sentiment. I will rise up and join them, but there are wielders more suited to using you than I.

Note that this is a reaction to the inscription than actually addressing the sword, if that matters at all

Krag say "I'll take good care of this, my favorite weapon is a blunt one, and a weapon like this sword will be of much more use verus zombies."

Tassira:
You don't see any weapons you can use but you can read the inscription on the tombstones of the zombie knights plus you can make out: Sir Ivor, Knight of the Order of Draco, and Sir Pelor, Knight of the Order of Draco. You also see that farmer you witnessed being drained to death wasn't the first, there's several more ash grey bodies lying next to the dead farmer.

The sounds of battle come from the east but you realize heading directly east would take you through the woods while staying on the path would get you east faster.

As you reach the point of the path were the woods give way to fields you hear a whispering on the wind.

"Dark Deeds have been done to me,

Well, this day just got more and more interesting, didn't it?

Knowledge (Religion) - Identify: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23

It was quite vexing to have only a limited ability to help her companions, but the gods had not seen fit to grant her access to more (and greater) magic. Of course, considering the fact that she didn't deserve to receive any gifts from them at all, she had no right to complain about any limitations they imposed on her; she was the one who'd done wrong, not them, and she'd calmly accepted their limitations. She'd be the first to admit that she wasn't perfect, but when the gods had forgiven her and granted her their gifts, she had decided to uphold their tenets as best she could... and that included acting in accordance with their codes of conduct. Not because she was forced to, but because it was the right thing to do.

Do the most good for the most people, without losing sight of the details or sacrificing others...

She had two different spells that would protect her allies... but these likely wouldn't be the last foes they'd meet tonight. Sometimes, even though you wanted to help, you had to accept that you couldn't. To certain types of people, this may have seemed like a willingness to expose others to harm when she did, in fact, have the ability to prevent it - and if something went terribly wrong, then it would arguably be her fault. Kariel saw it a bit differently. They were her friends and her family, and she was going to trust in their strength to see them through this... while still doing anything non-magical that she could to help them out. Besides, she could always change her mind later.

"Vengeance only calls for more vengeance. It's not worth sacrificing your own goodness to achieve." the Aasimar said calmly. "There are better ways to seek justice when you've been wronged."

Staggering to his feet, his confusion abates upon seeing his spear in the hands of the fallen knight. He did not recall placing his spear there but he understands its meaning.
"I'll shall wield this with honor and learn more about what you have shown me." there could be no other reason for those images and why did he hear Rowan's voice? There was a mystery here that had to be solved. He'll need to ask the scholars of the group. A good thing he had some of the most knowledgeable people travelling with him.

Back at the Path
The words speaks of anger. Great anger.
This can't be good. are his first thoughts as Vigar steps forward with a firm grip on the ancient spear.

Religion: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

Rowan and Kariel:
Rising out of the ground are two Ogres that have been turned into typical zombies.

Krag strikes while the creatures are still rising form the ground. Holy Avenger Greatsword: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26 for damage: 2d6 + 9 + 2d6 ⇒ (6, 3) + 9 + (5, 2) = 25

Brother Nicholas 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 but misses.

Captain Miles 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18 for damage: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

Marrovak and Chalimar aren't in position to attack.

Krag, Brother Nicholas, and Captain Miles rush foward and attack one of the beasts before it even finishes rising up from the ground. Which it never does as Krag and the Captain 'kill' it again.

Ogre Zombie initative: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1

Everyone gets to go before the Zombie Ogre

Round 1: Actions
Move Action: Move behind Rowan
Standard Action: Use thunderstaff on Rowan's weapon

Tassira is rather dismayed to see Krag, Marrovak & Captain Miles rush and carve up one of the zombies before it can do anything. After seeing the other one rise up to its full height, she understands why.

Oh. They weren't the ones talking. Their summoner was.

She moves behind Rowan, her electricity magic beginning to fade. She uses some of the last portions of her power to empower Rowan's weapon, sparks dancing across it.

Kariel blinked slightly, but relaxed a moment later. She'd been expecting them to dispatch the creatures quickly, but with one of them down before it had even moved... it seemed her trust in her family was well-founded after all. There was little she could do to contribute here, so she calmly settled down to watch the rest of the battle.

Kariel passes this turn.

Vigar: Mythic levels is selected and updated.

Vigar moves, his form noticable only to those who have seen him fight and then only one is here now. His spear thrusts are more sure and his footwork more agile as compared to his more rather slugglish movements previously. However his thrust seems to fall short as if still unfamilar with his weapon.

The second Zombie Ogre lurches to it's feet and is attacked by all sides it's tough hide and battered armor resisting most of the attacks lauched against it save for a mighty blow from Krag and a team flanking maneuver by Marrowvak and Chalimar. The Ogre swings his mighty club in retaliation vs the dwarf, but Krag, trained from childhood in fighting giants and their kin, dodges the blow.

Round 2: Actions
Action: Pass Turn, watch the fun!

The sight of the zombie ogre swinging his club about causes Tassira to back off. She only had the bare minimum of storm power left... but the rest of her magic was still buzzing beneath her skin.

She lets the others pound on the ogre while she watches. No sense lobbing acid into the melee--she could hit the wrong person.

Kariel quietly continued to watch the melee. Despite her age, she hadn't actually seen much in the way of combat and violence - but she wasn't flinching away from it, either. It seemed like the ogre would be down in a few moments more, so Kariel thoughtfully turned her gaze to the road ahead, considering her options. Empyreal ones, guide my actions and help me defend those who need it the most. She had no idea what they were going to find... but that wasn't about to stop her from trying to help.

Vigar dances around the ogre but speaks to the girls.
"The owner of this thing must be nearby, do you think you can find it?" thursting his spear into the undead flesh as he avoids a clumsy blow.
Spear thrust, Attack roll/spear damage/holy damage 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 271d8 + 6 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + 6 + (3, 6) = 16

Vigar's thrust kills the Orge.

Out of Combat.

The party can still hear sounds of fighting coming from the west, now louder and clearer. In fact it sounds as if a pitched battle is being fought ... and it is clear to you now that the sounds are coming from the Shrine where Hiriko, Cerene and the others went for safety.

As you come in sight of the Shrine you can see that the strong fence wall around the grounds is already breached in several places. Dozens of zombies are milling about the small temples's grounds. With only a few actually trying to breach the main doors at the front of the temple.
You can hear the wailing in fear of women and children from inside the building, most of the town must be gathered inside it's walls.

Suddenly it all changes, the zombies that where almost aimless in their actions before, all now in concert lurch toward the temple. In the middle of their ranks, four horrible figures appear as if by magic. You recognize the famer that the wight killed in the graveyard, and three other of the bodies that had been heaped on the ground near where he laid, ordering the other zombies to attack! Their eyes burn with eerie green fire, and they are much swifter and stronger than the lesser zombies around them.

Tassira stops, her eyes focused on the four leaders in the middle.

"More of them. This is going to end badly if they get inside."

With that, she primes a glob of acid and hurls it at one of the leaders. She doesn't care if she misses--she just needs to distract them from getting inside.

How did they...? Kariel wondered, a little confused, though she did glance at the roof of the temple to see who it belonged to.

She clasped her hands together a moment later. Empyreal ones, innocents seek your protection. Though I am not worthy of your blessings, please do not forsake these souls. If you should see fit to intervene, then please protect the others... and if not, I hope you will be pleased with how I've used the blessings you did see fit to grant me. the gods moved in mysterious ways, and she could only trust that they had reasons for not granting her more power than they had.

She placed a hand on Vigar's shoulder a moment later, speaking a few divine words.

Cast: Shield of Faith (+2 AC for 2 minutes). 1 1st Level spell remaining.

She couldn't stop him from charging in, but she could still send some protection with him - and against a group of foes like that, he might just need it.

Vigar takes stock of the situation.

The Zombies are directed mostly by the sudden appearance of the four.
Nodding his thanks to Kariel as he feels protective energies enwrapped him, he knows without a doubt what he must do.

One Heroic/crazy action coming right up. Please Dice Gods don't make me look too bad if I fail. lol
The code he recites now as he Calls up several powers lying dormant begging for release as he moves and leaps up high into the air, his target the centre mass.

Move 40 feet. Move actions used
"A knight is sworn to valour"

I'll not let them breach the fort and allow more innocent blood to be spilled this night. as he mentally calls once more his inner self to aid him, tucking in his legs to prepare to absorb the shock of landing.
"His might upholds the weak"

His eyes once more goes white as his blood comes to his call, singing its exultant song once more, sending fresh power through him.
"His word speaks only truth"

As his leap reaches its peak, Vigars drops like a hawk, his ancient spear pointing downwards towards one of the leaders. His voice raising almost to a shout as he finishes reciting.
"His wrath undoes the wicked."
