Hey all. Just wanted to take a few minutes to let you know that I'm withdrawing from this campaign.
Most importantly, I want you all to know that it has nothing to do with the campaign, your play or the DM. I've been struggling connecting with my character still. Not sure why, but you guys have done such a great job with keeping and developing your characters and I'm contributing less and less and losing my enjoyment with Jesal.
It's a great story and campaign, and I'll likely still pop in to read as you progress. My best to all of you!
Cheers,
Fflash

So sorry to hear... we'll miss you!

Alabaster Cain |

It's mega-sad to see you go Jesal! I enjoyed your character, but I do understand your plight. I have quite a few characters in pathfinder society play that I had fun making, but just can't seem to "figure them out" as far as role playing goes, and that's always a killer for me.

The Norv |

As I told you earlier, Jesal, sorry to see you go, but there's no point in your trying to keep on if you're not having fun. That's why we all play these games. Always a spot for you here if you'd like! :)
Folks, I'll keep Jesal in my back pocket as an NPC at least until you get back to civilization so that you're not stranded without a fifth member.

The Norv |

Hi all, I just want to apologize for my absence over this past week. A co-worker's sudden illness left me suddenly having to cover a LOT of extra stuff, and because I'd planned some non-work things for this week before that happened...well, it became kind of a perfect storm, schedule-wise. I'm not totally clear yet, so please bear with me if I miss a day or two this coming week, but we're getting back to close-to-normal. :)
Now, onward!

Arhiel |

no problems, Norv... life always wins over gaming... take what time you need and we'll be here and eager to resume when you can.

Edward Irmington |

To the ones interested, i'm going to run Frostfur Captives, for gameday 5.
Here.

Arhiel |

already played it but thanks for the invite!

The Norv |

Arhiel, Ranak was an early player in this game (whom I think you may have replaced?). He was savagely murdered disappeared before I got involved.
Ed, any thoughts on the ship's name or things you want to do overnight? Next thing's the christening, so locking a name down would be useful.
Second issue: do we want to recruit someone to replace Jesal? And has anyone heard from Alabaster lately? He's vanished from a couple of PFS games and his last post here was on the 24th...
If we can find people quickly now would not be a bad time to recruit, as you're in port and likely will be again repeatedly over the next part of the adventure.

Arhiel |

Recruiting would be fine with me... there's always plenty of folks who want to play S&S it seems...

Isaac Silvermane |

That's correct. Arhiel did take over for Ranak after his player couldn't continue. I just thought that it'd be a good way to honor him since, in character, it did lead us being invested in his fate. However, if that name doesn't go over well, then that's fine. It was just an idea.
I'm fine with recruiting a new player.

The Norv |

Alrighty then, I'll open up a Recruitment thread when I have some time...a bit swamped at work tonight. Figure we'll be looking for someone with a divine character (since we lost not one but perhaps two) and who can fill one of the roles in the ship-to-ship combat described in the Campaign Bible.
Arhiel, you didn't have a role before (because casting spells can contribute more directly to ship-to-ship combat than a lot of people can, and because the system as written only had four roles). Would you want to take up one of the roles vacated? Alabaster's role is one you might be able to fill if he's not coming back (requires some Profession (Sailor)).

Arhiel |

what was alabaster's role?

Arhiel |

Ah, never mind, just looked it up... if no one objects to a woman in the role of first mate, works for me... I don't get a lot of skills, but I'll put another point in prof sailor next level, but I think diplomacy is probably important too... but I need to keep up my spellcraft also... So many things to invest in, so few points for a sorc, lol

The Norv |

Before I make a recruitment thread, actually...does anyone have particular players that you're with in other games on these boards that you think might be interested? I'd be totally fine making an offer to one person that we know will be reliable and invested in the game before opening it up to everyone.
And yeah, Arhiel, you don't have much to play with in the way of skill points...one good thing about the First Mate role is that it doesn't actually require a CRAZY high Prof (Sailor) to work. :P

Isaac Silvermane |

If Alabaster isn't going to return, then recruiting for a divine character is fine with me.
Arhiel, I have no objections to you becoming the First Mate. Isaac wouldn't have any objections to a female First Mate.
As for people that we can ask to join, I might have one in mind. We're in two other games. I'll send them a pm and ask if they'd be interested.
EDIT: Also, how many new players are we looking for? I'm guessing 1 to 2.
EDIT 2: Also, I can post in my other games about the opening.

Isaac Silvermane |

Okay, Dragoncat. For this game, we used a 25 point build. For wealth, I'm assuming that it's based on level. This is what the guidelines were during the original recruitment:
-25 point buy
-Average starting gold. Again, since we're at level 4, the wealth per level goes up.
-Core races only. This may change if Norv gives a ruling.
-2 traits, 1 drawback maximum. ONE TRAIT MUST BE FROM THE S&S TRAITS LIST
-All Paizo published material allowed, 3PP on a case by case basis

The Norv |

Hello Dragoncat! We'd love to have you. :)
And hello everyone else...sorry for the delay. I'm directing an independent theater production right now--my first in NYC--and we're raising funds for it, AND it was my birthday last week...in sum, things just really ran away from me. Isaac, thanks for bringing Dragoncat into the fold and reposting the build rules.
My own updates to them...
--Let's do standard WBL (so 6000 gp). I've been playing the AP pretty much by the book, so that should be accurate.
--I will not limit you to core races! As long as the race isn't something ridiculous like a drow noble or a trox, I'm ok with seeing it. Obviously a good backstory is key. :)
--I do recommend that you take one trait from the S&S list.
--All Paizo material is fine.
Let me know what you want to create! Isaac said that you have an ifrit brawler...what it seems like the party really needs is someone to fill Jesal's role as Navigator (see the Campaign Bible link) in ship-to-ship combat and a divine caster/healer. Perhaps your brawler could fulfill the former? (I'm also open to updating the rules of the role if need be to fit characters--I'd already done that for Jesal.)
Everyone: I should have a Gameplay post up by later tonight at the latest. Are we all good with The Silver Shrike as your ship's name?

Arhiel |

fyi, Norv... when you do wbl, remember some of your players are sorely behind that number... ARhiel has her starting equipment, a little cash (369gp) and a corset (non-magical)... no magic or anything... so wbl is definitely behind for us.
also - happy birthday, fellow Leo!! (my birthday was last week too - on Friday!)

The Norv |

Ah, happy birthday, Arhiel! And good point on the WBL...Dragoncat, let me do a quick tally of the current players' wealth and let you know how much to have. It will probably be lower...now that I'm remembering how this went with my IRL game, you guys should be able to catch up to standard pretty quickly now that book 2 has started, but I think most groups are behind at this point, so it will probably make more sense for you to come in with slightly less gear.
Gameplay post is going up assuming that we go with The Silver Shrike! If you have feelings otherwise, post 'em here...we can always change our minds and just pretend that it was always something else...

The Norv |

Gold tally:
Edward has: 104 gp worth of gear, 1 gp cash
Isaac has: 4,305 gp worth of gear (roughly), 301.44 gp
Arhiel has: 163 gp worth of gear, 369 gp cash
So the first obvious gap is between Isaac and the others; this is maybe explained but he fact that Isaac has Plugg's cutlass, which is roughly 75% of his total gear worth. There's still a surprising disparity at how little the other two of you have, especially Edward (do you really only have 1 gp? Didn't Sandara give you her Besmara's tricorne?).
One quick and easy way to level things out would be to have Isaac take a small (or zero) portion of the loot you have to sell--if you sell everything on the spreadsheet and just split it between Edward and Arhiel, you'd get 4,450 gp each (or thereabouts)--boom, everyone's level again. There are certainly going to be towns and cities in your immediate future to buy gear in. You also have 2 points of plunder to sell, which could net you as much as 2000 gp (or even slightly more) depending on where you sell it.
Regardless, 6000 gp seems too high for character creation...assuming Dragoncat won't be sharing in any of the loot/plunder (i.e. You'll be selling it shortly), 4,500 gp seems like it would be a good benchmark!

Arhiel |

don't we need to keep a certain amount of 'plunder' in the form of food and water to keep the crew healthy?
