Although it's not what I'd expect Alathea to be good at, very cool! I guess she's got talents that even she doesn't know about. I've added the new feat to Alathea's profile.
Hey, look, a sword for Kodokura!
RIZZENMAGNUS
let me ask you guys something.
If you were to suddenly split from the group for whatever reason, what do you think should happen with your PC?
Should the pc just poof and disappear?
Should the DM NPC the character until a time comes for the npc to go away?
Should the DM write the PC out of the game using whatever means neccessary?
Is there some unwritten rule that states that nothing happens to a character once the player walks away from the game?
I ask this not because of amorial, but because in another game that i am DMing, i did an experiment with a players PC, where the player left the group because he felt he wasnt getting enough attention (questions answered and what not), so i wrote up an entry that explains what happens to the pc, kind of like a novel or movie shifts the focus from the hero's to the villians, as a means to heighten suspense. The player got angry over this, claiming that i was using his pc against his wishes and he didnt like how his character ended and so on.
And just today i had another Player leave the group, not liking my style of DMing, which is fine, i DM a unique way and not everyone will like it. So to write out the pc, and to tie it in with a joke said in the discussion board, i had the pc suddenly take off running for the hills, dropping all of his possessions. THe player got annoyed at this and went on a rant about how he didnt want his pc being used this way, how his items are his, and so on. And then he (i assume a he) went on and sent me a PM complaining about me being a sucky DM and so on and what not.
Either way, i am thankful that i have a great group of players to play with in this adventure and in the other WOT adventure.
Thanks

I guess that if I leave a campaign, it's up to the game master (and maybe the rest of the players) to do with my character as they will. I don't think it makes sense to get mad about a game I leave on my own accord.
If someone would leave my game, I think that I'd go with running their character as a DMPC until it makes sense for the character to go off. If they leave while the party is in a city, then it's easy--there's nothing keeping them around the other PCs, and they go off on their own. If the player leaves while the party is in the wilderness or a dungeon or something, then I'd play the character until the party is back in a town or city or somewhere else that makes sense for them to go off on their own.
Kodokura
Seems kinda childish for someone to get upset over a character they've abandoned. If they're that invested in the PC, why leave the game?
Anything in the game world that is not controlled by a player is controlled by the GM. Once a player leaves, they've no right to dictate how the game should go.
Having said that, if I had to leave game and a character I really loved, I might offer some suggestions to the GM regarding how I thought s/he might develop, but I certainly wouldn't presume to dictate to the GM.
Also - what the hell? Last I looked, D&D was an imaginary game played in our minds. The ex-player's issue is about as meaningful as my kids arguing about imaginary friends. Don't waste your mental energy paying any mind to these people, Rizzen. In the end, it's a game, and games are meant to be fun - for the people who are actually playing them :)
Fiallain Bo'airr
Yeah... pretty much ditto to both Alathea and Kodo. It really is up to the DM. A player that abandons a game abandons their character in that game too. My 2 cents. :)

As a head's up, I will be on vacation up in the Canadian Rockies from the 12th through the 21st, so my posting may be light and sporadic during that time. Feel free to DMPC as needed.

hey everyone, apologies for the lack of posting this week. Got a lot of stuff going on with work and its limiting my ability to take lunch. On top of that i have to get ready for tonights big meeting to determine if a company can build a store on some land here in town. so i need to read up on some rules and write my statement regarding this process.
I will try to post something tomorrow or saturday...

alright everyone i need an honest assessment.
How are you liking the new setting? Is it something that you wish to stick around in for a while, explore, and see where the plot takes you? or would you rather be within your own realm, where everything is how you know it from the books?
please dont be shy in saying you do not like this; im not the type of dm that would be annoyed if a setting/idea didnt pan out. I want to make this enjoyable to everyone, so please, let me know what your thoughts are.
Thanks
yes, i know things have been slow these last two weeks. been dealing with some governmental issues, finishing up a semester of college, and have gotten a lot more responsibilites from work, so i apologize for the lethargic speed in my postings.

Hmmm. Good question. I'd like to get back to the "real" world at some point in the not-too-distant future, but that's based on my desire to get my powers back :) From a storytelling point of view, I'm not fussed. This world has a different flavour, a grittier feel, but I'm finding it enjoyable.
So that's a very definite "either way" from me.

The only reason I get impatient is because I'm digging it :) You gotta do what you gotta do. Good luck with the juggling!
Fiallain Bo'airr
I'm actually enjoying the gritty feel and am enjoying the story from the 'new perspective'. I would like to get back to the real world at some point, but I'm personally not in a huge rush. I certainly don't mind exploring this world / storyline a bit further.
That said, Fia the character will probably have the opposite point of view. She has nothing so far tying her to this world, no reason to stay, and every reason to want to leave.
The pace could increase a bit, but I say that mostly because this is my favorite campaign I've played in here. I think we all realize that the our own real world does and should take precedence. Work and school and family and responsibilities come first. So don't worry about that. As Kodo said, you do what you gotta do. :)
Alathea Sedai
I'm enjoying the mirror world setting. Part of the reason I've never attempted to run a Wheel of Time game is that it seems so hard to come up with my own story and still have it fit in with the main story without being too overshadowed (see Dragonlance for another example). Running a game in a mirror world is a good way to avoid that, so I'm interested in seeing it pan out.
That said, Alathea certainly is NOT enjoying her stay in the mirror world. But character angst can be fun for me, so carry on!
Don't worry about having to deal with real life issues instead of game. Things have picked up for me, too; we all understand.

Question about bracers of armour: would they stack with the class defense rating, or would they be like regular armour in that they only stack if you are an armsman or warder?
Traditionally, Bracers of Armour are intended for classes that would not usually use armour, such as a monk, but Aiel might be the closest equivalent in this game. However, if they do not stack with defensive ratings, they would not be useful to Rhoekk. If they would work for Rhoekk, obviously I would prefer those for him, as he cannot use any other armour options. If they will not work, I would like to put in a bid for the amulet of Natural armour.
In regards to the mirror world, I think I touched this off with a PM to Rizzen. I for one would prefer a return to the Real world asap. The mirror world is interesting, and to me would be a very interesting plot if it was something that was going on in a Pathfinder game. However, the main reason I like the idea of playing Wheel of Time, is to play in the Wheel of Time world that we all know and love. The mirror world is an interesting interlude, but to me it feels like a break from the real game, and that things are kind of on hold until we can get back. That is not to say that I am not enjoying myself, but I would be greatly more invested in the game were it to be ensconced in the established world.
I was loving the investigative plot we were enjoying when we left, and the taking down of the Seanchan cell within Cairhein had a wonderful epic feel to it. I was disappointed when we were unable to resolve it, and it still feels as though there is unfinished business there. Did the attack on Rand go ahead, even without the male collar? Will the other darkfriends among the Aiel make an attempt on the Car'a'carn if the Seanchan plot fails? Is the innkeeper we set out to rescue ok? I don't know if any of these questions have been addressed in the other group, as I have not been following that thread, so I'm not even sure if they are still in the real world, or in this or another mirror world...
If the majority of the group would like to see the mirrorworld story arc through to completion, I will stick with the game, and continue having a good time with the game and story. However, if and when we get back to the Real world, I look forward to this once again becoming my favorite game.
As far as pace and real life issues are concerned, deal with what needs to be dealt with. I enjoy it when a game moves at a decent clip (though not too fast), but life happens, and should take priority over any game. I'm here for the long haul, so regardless of the speed, everything will get done eventually.

Okay just to stay organized, here's a list of the items, brief summary as to what they do, and who has expressed interest in what so far. I don't think Ryland has spoken up for anything yet.
Turtle Male +4 sa'angreal Kodo
Clear Orb Make Saidin/Saidar visible to all Fia
Belt +4 sa'angreal Alathea / Fia
Bracers +6 Bracers Rhoekk
Gray Amulet +4 Natural armor Kodo
WhiteAmulet +2 Con, immune fatigue & endurance Fia ?
Rod Create mini stedding Alathea
Twisted Ring #1 Tel'aran'Rhiod Rhoekk
Twisted Ring #2 Tel'aran'Rhiod Fia / Matt
Twisted Ring #3 Tel'aran'Rhiod Kodo
Twisted Ring #4 Tel'aran'Rhiod Alathea
Ring of Command Command shadowspawn, dc 15 ??
Ring Well Store up to +3 levels of weaves (Alathea's experiments)
Ring: Surprise Allows anyone to channel the Ring Well (Alathea)
Alathea, while that belt is enough to make anyone drool, since you're our highest level channeler I'll let you take it. Fia might want to borrow it on occasion though. ;)
The well and / or surprise I might have interest in later if / when Kodo's ability is restored, but for now I think they might be good for Kodo and Alathea.

I'll be away until at least the weekend. Taking my kids here: Royal Tyrrell Museum
Kodokura
Did we decide on the item distribution? Before we get into combat again we should probably sort it out. Seems I have a ring and a turtle - the grey amulet would suit me nicely, but if Ryland wants to tank up that's ok too. I notice that most (all?) of you haven't equipped anything since we got da loot...
Fiallain Bo'airr
Yeah. No one responded to the tentative list I made earlier so it was still kinda in limbo. :) Ryland, since you took that hit with the fog, would you like the con boosting amulet?
Kodokura
Did you want the +4 natural armour amulet as well, Ryland? I wouldn't mind it, but like I said, I have a badass sword :) I don't want to be snaffling all the goodies.
Edit: Oh right, two amulets... Well, you can have the grey one if you'd prefer, your choice.
Fiallain Bo'airr
It would help, I think I will need all the Hit Points I can get.
Ok. Since I think I was the only other one looking at it, go ahead and take it.
Rhoekk of the Tardaad Aiel
As mentioned before, Rhoekk would very much like the Bracers, but I don't think any of the others would be useful for him, except the dream ring of course.
Back at the manor, Rhoekk leapt in and took the White Bow and has been using it rather effectively. However, I am open to the idea of Fiallain using it as women are understandably reluctant to channel here. I suppose it depends on whether we would like to see the weapon used to make an effective fighter super-effective, or use it to round out someone who is presently below her usual capacity, and average out the group's combat effectiveness.
Let me know your thoughts.
Fiallain Bo'airr
Ok, I'm adding one of the dream rings and the clear orb to my character sheet.
As to your question Rhoekk, I am fine either way. I am not sure which would be most advantageous in the long run to the group. Fia is currently way under capacity. Without the power she literally has only one mundane knife and her bare hands(and a heavily watered down attack bonus) to work with, so any sort of magical weapon would definitely help - a situation probably not helped much when I keep taking items that are only situationally useful - lol. That said I haven't even reached two attacks yet and Rhoekk's BaB is much higher. The bow would definitely be more damaging to the enemy in his hands.
And all of that was just a long way of saying what you already said. :p
I'm tempted to suggest that we play it by ear battle to battle. If it looks like Rhoekk would be needed up front, Fia could take the bow. If the fight is at range I'd say he should be the one using it.
Kodokura
Righto, I'm adding the grey +4 natural armour amulet.
I can't remember if it was in the books, but in WoT did we ever get a description of what using wells of the Power felt like? Maybe through Cadsuane? Obviously I'd like to use the ring "Surprise", but I'm not sure how Kodo would feel about it. I imagine it would be a pretty heavy thing for a recently severed channeler to be able to access the Source again, particularly if it feels like channeling normally does...
If anyone (GM?) has suggestions as to how it would work, and what the experience would feel like, chip in. I could use some fluff/RP inspiration on this one.
RIZZENMAGNUS
i do believe there was a description of opening oneself up through the well instead of the source. so instead of opening yourself to that pinprick that is the source in your mind, you open up to the well that is on the hand, or head, or necklace...wherever it occurs.
Alathea Sedai
ill say that you sorted it out during travel, but the moment combat begins, if it isnt sorted then the stuff sits at the bottom of a bag.
The following is IC from Alathea's point of view, but rather than clog up the action in the IC thread for a flashback, I'll post it here.
Alathea draws Kodokura aside one evening of their endless travels towards the Spine of the World. She has been experimenting each night in finding the secrets of the ter'angreal that she and her companions have found, and she feels she is ready to test her theories. She holds two rings in her hands. The first was relatively easy to figure out--a Well. Though she'd never held one before (the White Tower did not entrust such things to Accepted!), they were well-known to the Aes Sedai, or at least as well-known as any object of Power could be. Having filled it with saidar, she had turned her attention to the second. This one was like nothing she'd ever seen or read about before, but if it worked as she thought it would...
Slipping the Well onto her hand (where she had once worn her Great Serpent), she takes Kodokura's hand in hers and slips the other onto his pinky finger. She smiles at him, perhaps a bit sadly. "It is a good thing that this does not fit on your ring finger, yes?"
After pausing a moment to clear her head, Alathea speaks again. "Now, Kodokura. Reach as if you are reaching for the One Power, but reach through the ring on your finger. If you succeed...do not be afraid of what you find, but do not try to seize it just yet. We will start slowly, yes?"
Kodokura
Kodo allows himself to be shepherded away from the others by Alathea wordlessly. As she brings out the rings, an eyebrow twitches in his blank face - on anyone else, his expression would be taken for complete disinterest, however, Alathea knows that for the gentled asha'man it signifies curiosity.
As the ring is slipped on his finger Kodo watches intently, though he asks no questions. In response to Alathea's first comment, he gives a small sigh, almost imperceptible, but it is a sigh that conveys the absence of hope.
Kodo's eyes widen as Alathea speaks of reaching, and seizing. He takes a deep breath, closes his eyes as he was once forced to as a wilder, and reaches.
For a moment, he sits motionless. Then tears begin to well under his closed eyelids, and he exhales fully. "Peace... The sweetness..." He opens his tear-laced eyes and stares into Alathea's eyes. "It's there," he breathes in awe. "It's not... the same, but it's there, praise the Light." Taking both of Alathea's hands, his face breaks into a small but beatific smile. "It's there!"
Alathea Sedai
Alathea didn't realize that she'd been holding her breath, but at Kodokura's words, she exhales in relief. Light be blessed! She pulls him closer, as if to kiss him, but stops at the last moment. Smiling in return, she squeezes his hands.
"It works!" she breathes. "Do it again, if you wish. This time, try to grasp it. It is saidar, and very different from what I understand you're used to. You must surrender to it, yes? Only by letting it control you can you control it. Then, if you can, Weave. But you must use a gentle touch, gentle and subtle, like..." She pauses, searching for the right words. Eventually, she closes her eyes and smiles. "Like you are pleasuring a woman, yes?"
Kodokura
Kodo's frowns in confusion as Alathea begins to explain the nature of saidar, until he realises their noses are only inches apart. He catches his breath as he stares into her eyes, trying to concentrate on her instructions. Light, but she's beautiful, he thinks as her features dance with joy for him.
A second after Alathea's last sentence, he realises what she's saying, and that he's obviously staring. Blushing madly, his eyes drop to his knees. "That doesn't sound... I mean... that's not what saidin's like at all," he stammers. He cuts short, for a moment lost in the feeling of being so close to Alathea at the same time as his soul feels reawoken just by the mere sense of the Source. She did say "pleasuring", didn't she..? She just came right out and said... He swiftly abandons that line of thought, though his pulse rushes. Closing his eyes again - Focus, you dirty-minded fool - he exhales again, centring himself. Then, he reaches, seizing the Power.
The vastness of saidar rushes at him, like an ocean-sized river. Panicking slightly, Kodo tries to force his will around it, bend it to him, as he would with saidin. his face screws up with the effort, as he feels the female half of the Source begin to sweep him under.
