Alice Duvotour |
Alice breathes a sigh of relief. While she can swim, a battle would have been bad.
She gives Morana a gentle pas on the arm. "I am glad that turned out allright. Your companion was quite convincing. Do you want my assistance moving somewhere?"
Morana Soto |
Releasing a breath she had not realized she was holding. Dry land. Offering a small smile at Alice, Not an option I know. And yes they were very convincing.
Letting her eyes fall on the Captain, Anywhere that man is not would be good for me. I truly appreciate it Alice.
Vaundour"The Gentleman"Gathlain |
Giving a grin at a ploy's success, Vaundour turned around to the others and said, "Well, that was exhilarating. How much longer until we hit land again, captain?"
Grumble Jack |
Grumble yawned, a little disappointed there hadn't been a fight. He wasn't wearing his armor on the ship, and the Mitrans had lots of bows, so it was probably good that Soren's trick had worked, but still, he hadn't hit anything in a while. It was starting to get to him.
Alice Duvotour |
Alice guides Morana to the other side of the ship, away from the captain.
"No problem. I was fortunate to have had some swimming lessons in my youth, but I dont relish swimming in the open sea. Its good to be respectful of the sea. She is not a forgiving mistress."
Morana Soto |
Content to follow where the woman takes her Thank you Alice. I prefer my water without all the salt. It is much better with mint and honey.
Looking out at the sea but keeping away from the rail. All the salt and waves. Water should be still and clear if I am to enter it.
the Shining Host |
The Frosthamar
The Captain chuckles at Vaundour's question, "To hunt for short stretches and perhaps gain some fresh water but it will be at least a week more till we are in friendly territory".
The trip is uneventful for a few more days in fact the waters and wind become quite calm forcing the crew to row north, a task they are none too pleased with. The Captain bellows at them to row harder and harder to "put your backs into it!"

Aurex 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Alice 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Despite the yelling and the sound of the men grumbling and the oars splashing into the water, Aurex, Soren and Alice hear a sound from the water that does not quite fit into the rhythm of the oars.
What do you do?
Alice Duvotour |
Alice cups a hand around her ear. "I hear it too. Like someone is plashing about."
Having been on the boat for a while, she doesnt trust this. Raising her voice she calls out.
"Captain, something is in the water. It might be trying to sneak up on us using the splashing of the oars to mask its sound."
Vaundour"The Gentleman"Gathlain |
"Well, Ollie, this is a fine mess we've gotten ourselves into," Vaundour muttered as he made his way to the side, hoping to find what the others heard.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
Morana Soto |
Tensing at the others words. Trying to stiffle her panic she slips on hand into the pouch at her waist and the other rises to the pendant at her neck Oh Gods no. That voice is so soothing, Breathe. You will not die here. That thing might though. Remember your companions are rather scary.
Nathanial Torken |
Nate takes a position in the center of the boat, drawing his bow and looking around nervously.
DM, will I have to worry about Aurex being attacked in human form if I just have him sit off to the side and not participate in combat? He can't really do much in terms of combat.
Soren Marsailles |
Watching Vandour approach the side of the ship, Soren pries her pistol from its holster and follows him, staying a short distance behind to take a shot at anything that might rear up out of the water. "Watch yourself; don't get dragged overboard."
the Shining Host |

If he stays dead center in the ship and away from your attackers he should be fine, well unless I kill everyone else and then he'll be in trouble... :-)

The Frosthamar - Open Sea

Nathaniel, Grumble, Soren, Vaundour, Alice
Captain & Crew.
Lothryin, Aurex, and Morana are up first!
Lothryin Harad |
Hey Dm, i may be incorrect but Soren last entry seemed like a readied action i may be wrong I don't know how it is indicated on the boards. I will be blasting, I don't know who or how many i can hit that I will leave up to you
Startled by the creatures rising over the railing, Lothryin bares his teeth at the oncoming enemies. Flames begin to curl and lick there way around his blackened hands as he draws energy from deep inside and unleashes a blistering inferno on the attackers. I hate water he yells in rage.
Burning Hands DC 16: 3d4 + 6 ⇒ (2, 4, 4) + 6 = 16
Soren Marsailles |
I usually denote that I am taking a readied action by stating it in OOC text at the bottom of my post; I didn't in this case, so no readied action from me. Soren has no real idea where they'd be coming from, other than the water in general, so I was more making sure that Soren had her pistol drawn and ready to fire in combat, so that I wouldn't have to spend an action to do so.
Morana Soto |
Because this day cannot get any worse of course and I will have no time dammit! Growling and casting magic that shimmers over her.
Mage Armor
the Shining Host |
The Frosthamar - Open Sea
As the creatures rise from the depths of the ocean, Lothryin has an answer for them, "I hate water!" The streams of fire that issue forth from his hands confirm that hatred as they engulf those elementals, the embodiment of water, closest to him.
One is destroyed in its entirety dissipating as steam before it can strike any upon the ship, the other resists the fire. Or at least well enough to retain its form on this plane.

Red Triton Attack Grapple 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5.
Blue Triton Attack Grapple 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21.
Neranius Attack Grapple 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15.
The elementals and sea warriors begin to wrap themselves around the bodies of the sailors, incluing the Captain. The men cry out as most are not armed except with clubs for rowing duty. The Captain snarls, "Now t'would be a good time to protect the ship!"
All but two of the sailors (the ones next to the Gold and Red warriors) are grappled!
Nathaniel, Grumble, Soren, Vaundour, Alice GO!
Grumble Jack |
Grumble scanned the ship, looking for his first target. He didn't care about the sailors. The elementals were just minions. So were the weird looking fish. The fish-people were the ones in charge. Some of 'em just looked like soldiers. More minions.
There. The girly 'un. That 'un looked like in might be in charge.
The ogre took two steps and closed distance, drawing a barbed net from a large pouch on his hip as he moved. It unfurled as he tossed it. The lead was a ten foot length of chain that was clipped to the inside of the pouch, attached securely to 'Jack's belt.
Touch Attack with net to the blue one with the bad hairdo: 1d20 ⇒ 14
"'Ere fishy fishy fishy..."
Soren Marsailles |
Soren moves forward towards the creature attacking the captain, seeing Grumblejack go after the possible leader. She levels her pistol towards it and fires, careful to avoiding hitting the captain himself; he was still useful, at least for now.
Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 1
Ah, the joys of not adding any modifiers to your damage rolls... some day.
Alice Duvotour |
Great... now I have to save the lives of these dolts. Alice doesnt like the sailors, but the ship would be adrift without them.
She takes a few steps untill she is level with Lothryin and releases a Force Missle (works as a single magic missle) at the closest Triton (gold), hoping to keep it away to give Grumble some maneuvering room.
Force missle damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Nathanial Torken |
Nate stands tall and draws an arrow. With a quiet thum, the shaft flies towards the leader of the group.
Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Vaundour"The Gentleman"Gathlain |
His eyes flashing with a mixture of anger and curiosity, Vaundour pointed at the elemental wrapped around the ship's captain, and, his voice gaining a strange double timbre, said, "You will release the captain."
Using a spell point to use Greater Command talent on the elemental. Will save DC15, or under my command as long as I concentrate on the ability.
the Shining Host |
The Frosthamar - Open Sea
Grumble's net yields what appears to be the leader of this deep sea assault!
Soren's bullet strikes the creature grappling the captain but 'tis just a flesh wound.
Vaundour command "You will release the captain." meets with greater success as the creature does indeed let go!
Leader - Grappled HP 34/42
Blue Triton HP = 19/20
Gold Triton HP = 17/20
Alice's missile strikes the sea man but he maintains his grapple upon the crewman. As does Nate's strike at the now netted leader.
The Captain takes the opportunity to strike back at the creature that grappled him hefting his greataxe with ease
his clean swing takes off the creatures head with one shot.
"Sea Wolves, show these fish why we eat them and not the other way around!" he bellows.
Most of the sailors are able to slip the grasp of their grapplers. One of the already free sailors steps back and grabs a crossbow to load it while the other rushes to the aid of one of his grappled comrades.
The Sailors short sword though misses the mark.
Round 2 Order - Lothryin, Aurex, Morana - GO!
Water Elemental's (4), Sea Creatures & Leader (3+1), Dolphins (2)
Nathaniel, Grumble, Soren, Vaundour, Alice
Captain & Crew.
Morana Soto |
Taking few quick steps forward and holding out her hand while growling, Burn!
Burning Hands on the blue and pink one.: 3d4 ⇒ (4, 4, 2) = 10
Lothryin Harad |
Stepping next to Morana, Lothyrin nods his approval at the flame bellowing from Morana's hand. Let us destroy those who oppose us with a blistering inferno, as a wave of flame rolls down his charred fingers bathing the elementals in hellfire.
Same targets as Morana
Burning Hands: 3d4 + 6 ⇒ (4, 3, 2) + 6 = 15
Nathanial Torken |
I don't believe you addressed my ranged attack, did it land?

Aurex grins as the chaos of the ship explodes around him.
Morana and Lothryin unleash the fires of hell upon the elementals that would dare attack their ship!
Both of the creatures dissipate into so much steam as the gouts of flame destroy whatever magic held their physical forms together.
The two crewmen grappled have their luck run out as the red elemental and the sea grey creature drag them into the depths of the icy water!
The Dolphins leap to the defense of their leader attempting to pull him and the net held by Grumble over the edge of the ship.
Grumble, make a CMB check to hold onto the Net!
As Grumble tries to hold on, the other sea creature gold attempts to cut the net as the ensnared creature calls out, "Forget about me my friend, attack these wicked land men!"
He pauses mid swing and instead releases the Trident throwing it at Grumbles head.
The weapon, clearly awkward to throw skims Grumbles arm. 1 point of damage Grumble.
The captured creature tries to cast a spell.
The other sea man brick red attacks one of the crew.
The final elemental yellow attempts to once again grapple the closest sailor.
It does so successfully, the man's head is engulfed by water as he struggles to breathe!

Not wanting gold to cut the net, Alice gets out the big spells.

Move action to get in close for point blank, then cast.
Nathanial Torken |
Aurex grins as the chaos of the ship explodes around him.
Is the leader close enough to the edge to hit with a melee attack?
Vaundour"The Gentleman"Gathlain |
Seeing that the creature attacking the good captain was taken care of, with many thanks to himself, Vaundour moved closer to the red elemental and called out, "You know you want to flee this battle!"
One SP to use Greater Command on the red elemental, causing him to flee. Same DC as before.
Grumble Jack |
I'm fairly certain Grumble made that CMD check, so I'll go ahead and post my action.
Grumble dragged his catch hand over hand up onto the deck.
Drag: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22
I've moved myself on the map, and the enemy leader as well. If something isn't right about that, please correct where we end up on the map.

the Shining Host wrote:Aurex grins as the chaos of the ship explodes around him.Is the leader close enough to the edge to hit with a melee attack?
He certainly is as Grumble drags him from off of the edge of the deck fully on board!
the Shining Host |
The Frosthamar - Open Sea
Alice's attack singes the Gold sea man badly, he is hurt but not down.
Vaundour's suggestion is too powerful for the sea man to resist and it jumps back into the water from whence it came!
Soren and Nathaniel GO!
Nathanial Torken |
"Well done!" Nate roars to Grumblejack. He drops his bow and moves across the boat, drawing his greataxe with a savage grin and bringing it down on the trapped fishy.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Damage: 1d12 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Soren Marsailles |
Soren takes a moment to reload and fire again, but once again doesn't have much luck in scoring a solid hit.

The Frosthamar - Open Sea
The crew makes short work of the remaining sea man and remaining elemental. Though Nate strikes the trapped creature with a solid blow, it still lives.
The dolphins titter from the side of the boat but there is little they can do to save their leader...
Combat Over!
The Captain walks towards the group, "Well big man, seems you cast a line and got the big fish eh? What'll we do with it? I've never eaten a sentient sea creature before!"
The creature spits at the Captain, "This vessel shall never reach its intended target, the forces of good shall rise out of the sea to destroy all of you..."
Nathanial Torken |
Nate takes a breath, than puts his greataxe on his back. Behind him Aurex looks down at the dolphins with a ravenous stare.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
"How did you know about us?" Nate asks with a friendly smile, as if asking if he wanted to come over for dinner.
Vaundour"The Gentleman"Gathlain |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
"Oh, great, a bleeding fanatic," Vaundour said before giving a snort. "And quite literally at that. Trust me, there is no good or evil, just power and those too weak to grab it. And it looks like you're one of the weak ones."
Alice Duvotour |
Alice breathes a sigh of relief. While there is no love lost between her and the sailors, loosing then would have been bad. She doesnt know how to sail a boat, and these new people most likely wouldnt know either.
Letting the big guys do the talking, she wanders over to Morana.
"Hey, you ok?"
Grumble Jack |
Grumblejack gave Odenkirk a look that said in no uncertain terms what he thought of sharing his food.
Then he turned his attention to the fish in the net. "Here's what's gonna happen, fishy. While these folks ask you questions, I'm gonna eat you. Gonna start at the bottom. Gonna take my time. B'tween bites you'll have plenty of time t' think about what you want to tell us. When they decide you ain't got nothin' left to say that we wanna here, I'll do you a favor and kill you."
He pulled the end of the fishy tail free of the net.
Intimidate: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22
Morana Soto |
Staring at the sea creature and more than happy to refocus on something other than what is about to happen on the deck Morana switches her focus on Alice, I am not in the water so I suppose I am. You?
