Fortitude save DC 30 1d20 + 11 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 11 + 4 = 29
Kythel as well is blinded by the Light.
He staggers and is forced to use a powerful spell on himself to heal his blindness.
Kythel also casts Heal on himself to cure his permanent blindness!

GM Rutseg |

As the tree shines almost everyone is surprised and blinded by the light.
JJ stumbles backwards looking for help.
Marigold calls for mystic energies that respond with her blindness being instantly removed.
Shebeleth utters a single word of power and he suddenly starts to flow at an astonishing speed.
The time blends and he casts a spell, another spell, performs a summon and casts another spell in rapid succession before you can even blink.
He then moves towards the center of the chamber at an astonishing speed.
Your superior sight let's you see this creature at the center as an illusion. The real Shebeleth moved next to the doors.
Shebeleth has duplicated himself, in addition to the copy in the middle of the chamber, another copy of himself moved to the door. This last copy is invisible.
A towering, corpulent beast fiend with the hideous head of a boar and arms ending in fatty, four-fingered hands, materializes in the middle of the room as Shebeleth completes his summoning.
Blinded, the shator demodand just summons a cloudkill after roaring in frustration.

Marigold's life bubble protects you from the noxious gasses of the shator, while her touch quickly returns sight to JJ.
Losing sight of his enemies, Maxim creates a shielding magic to protect himself.
Seeing this, Kikinnin moves near his dwarven brother and brings the miracles of Abadar. A mere touch is enough to return the outstanding view of the Shackled Tree to the blonde dwarf!
Recovered from the blindness, JJ walks through air to engage the demodands and demons. The young man appears through the cloud to be surprised by a huge demon that tries to catch him mid air.

You see the actual caster of the spell was the invisible Shebeleth, and afterwards he escapes through the door to the west.

Reflex (DC 18): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15
Marigold finds herself a bit too slow to roll out of the way of the fireball and catches the full blast - but she's had worse. Singed and smoking, she calls out, "ಇಲ್ಲ! ಶೆಬೆಲೆತ್ನ ಅದೃಶ್ಯ - ಅವನು ಬಾಗಿಲಿನ ಮೂಲಕ ಹೊರಟನು!"
"No! Shebeleth's invisible - he took off through the door!"
But there's little she can do about it as there are still the other foes to contend with. Unconcerned with the stink cloud she moves back into it, taking advantage of the cover it provides her as she tries to close some distance between herself and JJ. Kythel of Nisroch |

Round 4 (5?)
Kythel reaches into his pack and produces, an Everburning Torch!
He throws it ahead in an attempt to light up the room and at least see his ally, if not his foe!

Marigold's Round 5
As the action continues to push to the north and west, Marigold follows from a somewhat-safe distance, not wanting to be left behind in a place like this. Seeing the difficulty her allies are having against the shator, Marigold attempts to dispel some of the magics protecting him!

GM Rutseg |

With Marigold dispelling the shator demodand's defensive spells, Maxim and JJ give a quick and definitive end to the creature of Carceri.
The beast falls to the ground.
Kythel throws a torch into the tunnel. What he founds is their enemy has summoned a blade barrier in the middle of the corridor.
Swirling blades of force cut your advance through.
Dispel magic: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (13) + 14 = 27
The dragon Juraan tries to dispel the blades but fails "Argh! He is there behind the blades, he is heading to the doors at the other end!"

"Get close to me.. I know a trick that might help here. But I need to touch you all" says JJ.
"Quick. I've not tried this before, but I think it will work..."
Once everyone is touching him, JJ concentrates, thinks of a pathway to the room on the otherside and Steps between the very weave of the fabric of reality of the material world.
Suddenly the group reappears on the other side, perhaps slightly confused.
Woo hoo! Dimension door for the win. Astral terrain dominance. I keep forgetting to add that extra +1 to hit and damage against outsiders as well.

GM Rutseg |

JJ extends his hands and Marigold and Kikinnin, next to him, can easily grasp him. Maxim needs to move there and Kythel can reach, but he is too large for JJ's power.
The space twist with a swirling gravity wave that opens a hole through the astral plane and you feel JJ pushing you through. An instant later the room recomposes and you are standing in the middle of a new chamber.
C24. SHEBELETH REGIDJN'S CHAMBERS
The western half of this chamber is decorated lavishly as a bedchamber. Fine rugs cover the stone floors, and tapestries the walls. An ornate desk sits against one wall, emblazoned across the front with the Carcerian Eye. A wardrobe built of ebony sits near a large, four-poster bed. The room narrows to the east, then opens into a second chamber. This one is much more spartan. The floor is bare, but has been carved once more with the symbol of the Cagewrights. An altar and font stand near the far wall, both covered in a strange glowing script.
You spot the invisible Shebeleth in front of the doors, just on the tip of the arrow of the ground sign.
What is more disturbing is the strong bond you feel to the altar. You feel the flame in your eye burning and energy surging through your veins.
While within 10 feet of the altar you have a +4 insight bonus to hit, to saves and to skill checks.
A fiery aura covers Marigold and all her hair bristles up energetically.

Marigold's Round 6
Though momentarily dazed by the sudden teleportation, Marigold quickly regains her wits as she feels the flame in her eye pulse from a sudden surge of power. At about the same time, her gaze lands on Shebeleth, standing near the tip of the arrow.
She begins casting a spell, conjuring up a floating chain of force, each end sporting a hook. It lashes out, attempting to trip the wily and elusive Shebeleth!

JJ points towards the arrow in the ground when he saw something.

"Ugh...are...are we d-done here?" Marigold asks, suddenly feeling a bit woozy as the residual energy from the tree flows into her. "The t-tree's shut d-down, b-but...wh-what's this about a b-backup p-plan? And we st-still...there's st-still poor T-Terrem and K-Keygan and the others in those c-cages...even if we c-can't bring them b-back, we c-can't just leave them h-here in this p-place!"

"We bring them home to bury them..." says JJ
He points to Terram. "He had a hard life. But he had family, all of us. And the others. They need to be able to mourn him too. "
He shakes his head.
"So many. So many."
He looks from cage to cage, wondering how many of the lives now extinguished he had crossed over the last year.
"Ever wonder if we are cursed? Did we cause this?"

GM Rutseg |

The group moves away from Shebeleth's room and back to the tree. You mourn the thirteen bodies for a while and realize the tree is slowly shutting down. At this rate, some of you calculate it might take around a half an hour to completely shut down.
Juraan comes back to his human form and taps JJ's back "The Cagewrights are the curse, we are just trying to be the solution" The ever optimistic Professor looks sad though too.
"We should end this fight here and now, attack the rest of them before they regroup and form a coherent defense" the sorcerer looks at the tree absentmindedly "But we might need to protect the collar while it shuts down the tree. I think they referred to that for the backup plan Miss Marigold"

_JJ Surabar |

JJ nods.
"We guard the tree and collar first." he says.
"What happens to the tree once it deactivates? Can we take the collar off it? Cut it down? Destroy it somehow? I'd hate to leave it here as a gift to the next person trying to make a gate between worlds?"
He eyes up the cages.
"While we wait, can we get those cages down? I suspect tossing them into the lava might be what is required to at least undo that bit of the foul plan."

Maxim Snaphånce |

Maxim pauses from his loot inventory to observe a moment of solemness;
"Doin' right by the deceased seems best course o' action by my reckonin'. Iffin' I can bring back Keygan I surely will."
The gun-mage sparks up a stogie, then eyes the tree;
"Speakin' o' lava. Last I heard trees an' the molten blood o' the earth don't mix. Burn it an' it's gone."

Marigold Montajay |

"Y-yes...we need to make s-sure they don't rest-start the ritual," Marigold agrees. "Th-then, once it's shut d-down, m-maybe we can destroy the t-tree and the C-Cagewrights for g-good."
She also glances up at the cages. "D-dropping those into the l-lave doesn't s-sound like a b-bad idea. Either they'll b-be destroyed or p-permanently out of r-reach, that w-way..."

GM Rutseg |

Juraan shrugs to JJ's questions "My guess is once it is shut down, they will need to conduct another ritual with 13 new shackleborn in order to restart it. About the rest, I honestly do not know"
You proceed to unbind the soulcages and once by one, you throw them all to the lava. The high temperature slowly starts to melt the adamantine. Once you are done though, you see the energy is still channeling through the tree into the collar.
"Hum. The cages probably were only part of the start ritual. With this the Cagewrights will need years to make a new ritual. But the tree is still functional, we need to protect that collar" comments Juraan.
The tree is a thorn bush fully made of adamantine with a mithral core. It will not be easy to break.

Marigold Montajay |

Whoa nelly! :O
"Y-yeah...at least we've s-slowed them down th-though," Marigold remarks with a grim, but pleased expression as she watches the last of the cages melt into the lava. "If we c-can't break the t-tree, once it's p-powered down for g-good, m-maybe...c-can we redirect the f-flow of the lava to m-melt through it?"

_JJ Surabar |

"Or seal up the cavern so others cannot find it?" suggests JJ.
Even to him, that sounds weak. "Or at least delay them finding it by a few thousand years? That would be a good start."
He looks around the cavern and closes the doors, bracing them with rocks and other detris, not the least being the dead bodies.
"Lets get comfortable while we wait for the energy to vanish. Then... then we see what is left here."

Maxim Snaphånce |

Adamantine and mithral tree... (rubs hands)
Maxim nods eyeing the tree further;
"I got spells that can dis-inter-grate either parts o' the tree, or the ground around it. Might take a good while tho'. Would love to smelt that thing down... its value is reparation enough fir them that's lost."

GM Rutseg |

The party takes sit comfortably to watch the tree while the collar absorbs all the energy. Some spells expire: Marigold's true seeing and Kikinnin's divine bond.
The remaining Cagewrights soon notice the ritual is halting down and the hideout attacked. With your stand by the tree, they have the time to regroup and reorganize. Soon enough they are storming the doors of the tree's cavern.
The northern doors open first. "Here they are!" the voice of a fiery giant booms all over the cavern, his huge greatsword shedding flames "So we got a nasty worms problem silently making holes through our base. I have them here Grehlia!"
The name picks up your ears. You remember the name of the Ebon Tryad leader that left the group after the cages were made. A small and stout woman appears below the giant's legs. She has a mousy brown hair cropped just above her ears. She speaks with a noticeable lisp "Send your Flamewarders after them Ti'irok, Freija and myself, we will fight from here"
Two haraknin advance forward past the giant, while another woman arrives next to Grehlia. Freija is a rail-thin woman who wears her hair pulled back tightly from her face. She wears austere robes that cover her from neck to wrist to anckle, always of the same blood red color. She is fastidiously clean, a sign of her obsessive compulsive behaviour.

Almost as she speaks Freija waves words of magic and her contour becomes displaced as she finishes a spell.
Before Ti'irok gives any order, the haraknin are already rushing through the room after you.

"ಹಾಂ. ಅವರು ಎಲ್ಲಾ ನಿಲುಗಡೆಗಳನ್ನು ಎಳೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವಂತೆ ತೋರುತ್ತಿದೆ," Marigold remarks. She conjures a blessing of fervor over herself and her allies, well aware that it will come in handy.
"Hmm. Looks like they're pulling out all the stops."
