I have a local Pathfinder Society convention to attend starting tomorrow & I'm GMing for three games. I'll try to keep up with the game here, but it won't be a huge surprise if I'm too distracted and/or busy. If I go quiet, just have Sarine keep dagger stabbing (trying to stand up next round is fine). The boat is too small for greatsword fighting, I think.

Have fun!

Top five items in no particular order:
1 - Monk's Robe
2 - Amulet of Mighty Fists
3 - Staff of Healing
4 - Crown of Swords
For the fifth... There's a few things that tickle my fancy
I like the theme of the Haunted Shoes for Ashlyn, or the Jaunt Boots. I also always loved Ioun stones, and Ashlyn's the kind of character who'd wear a halo of the things and not think its weird at all. lol

Fleur |

Sorry if I'm a few posts behind... Husband is in surgery today and probably won't be able to post again til late tonight or tomorrow... Again, sorry for any delay - feel free to bot me to keep the action moving...thanks.

Ashlyn Orellis |

And I just realized you also play Kwiazy, Fleur.
Take your time. Best wishes to your husband.

Ashlyn Orellis |

@ mott - I just realized you made the Guttersnipe from Superstar 2014, and thought you should know my whole family LOVES that little guy. He's been added to three different campaigns in our house and when my kids decided they wanted to play a whole campaign as dragons, two of us fought over who got to be a guttersnipe. So, thanks!

Aw, thanks. That means a lot to hear. Who won the fight? :)
The guttersnipe is still one of my favorite designs I've ever done and gave me a lot of confidence when it came to monsters. I hope someday I can get Paizo to put it in a book and make it canon. (Three years later, I'm finally starting to do some writing for Paizo, so hope's not all lost.)

Ashlyn Orellis |

While I'd love to say I let my son have the honour, we agreed to both play one. But my son quickly decided he'd have just as much fun making a fairy dragon summoner whose eidolon looks like a bigger, scarier guttersnipe (so there, Mom!). Haha. It wounds the pride of my fiesty little guttersnipe barbarian.

Aurelian Fache |

Ha, that's great, Ashlyn.
Also, I think that's the fastest I've ever lost a weapon (or any other piece of gear) in a game...

Ashlyn Orellis |

Haha. Here's hoping the grindylow goes down before Ashlyn tosses herself in the water so she can get a better view. It'll be the fastest I lose a character to drowning.
Oh, wait! We're over a sandbar. I won't drown, and she'd totally bring your dagger back up... Presuming Aurelian didn't hurl it TOO far away.

Aurelian Fache |

Up to the GM. I'm kind of amused at the idea that Aurelian would just fling it into the water. Maybe he'll go swim out later to find it...

Aurelian Fache |

I have access to the map pdfs. Probably don't have time to put them up today, but let me how you'd like to handle them and I'll see what I can do.

Hey, quick question about initiative for combat: I noticed there's an average party initiative. Should I assume we all act on the same initiative and whatever posts first happens first, or should I consider my own initiative among allies? Just curious since I'm not sure if I should be adding Fleur's inspire courage bonuses to my rolls or not. I assumed since my initiative is higher than hers I wouldn't get the bonuses, but seeing the average party thing threw me off.
Thanks!

Sarine Dulciare |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

I had a good time at the Pathfinder Society convention. I got one player down to one hit point away from dead (while trying to stabilize over several turns) and they made the very last check with a natural 20. I also managed to snag a character (a barbarian) with a critter's grab attack while taking the -20 CMB to not be grappled back for the first time ever. Good times.
But six 4-hour games in two days is a lot. Good to have a break as well.

I'm testing out average party initiative as a way of making things easier. In this system its first post = first action, so if Fleur posted inspire courage then everyone posting after her gets it. :)

Got it! Cool.

Jenner 'Holystone' |

Survival can be used untrained, at least. I face the warpriest/cleric issue of getting a crap number of skill points per level, but I can spare one at level 2 which would put me at a +7 with it, at least, and I'm Wis-based. I just likely won't have enough skill ranks to keep steadily pumping it as we go, might just toss a point at it every few levels.

Ashlyn Orellis |

Ashlyn has a rank in it and intends to keep putting one in every level.

Ashlyn Orellis |

@ Aurelian
Our condolences.

Aurelian Fache |

Just a head's up that I'll be out of the country -- and likely not updating -- Oct. 20-30. Please feel free to DMPC me, obviously.

Sarine Dulciare |

Back to that discussion about Survival, here are my thoughts: It's usually sufficient with Survival to have one person that's really good at it or two to three people that are decent. Evelyn, Fleur & Aurelian don't have it as a class skill & their Wisdom isn't high enough to ignore that fact easily. Jenner has the most Survival potential but probably has better places to put his skill ranks.
Ashlyn & Sarine are about even in this context. Sarine's class skill is roughly equivalent to Ashlyn's much higher Wisdom. We both have enough skill ranks that we could take Survival seriously if we want to (1/2 ranks to full ranks).
So, I didn't mean to suggest that our Bards should start taking Survival when I brought it up. They have lots of other things that we need them to be learning. But I'm willing to go full ranks into Survival if you guys want me to, or I could share Survival duties with Ashlyn perhaps. That's the offer I was trying to get around to making, not suggesting that people should twist their plans around because I noticed that no one had Survival (except Ashlyn, who I missed earlier).
Now that I'm looking at it more...I could probably use Survival as a niche for Sarine. She won't be able to compete on social skills or knowledges with two Bards and a Swashbuckler hanging around and having nothing the party needs doesn't sound ideal.

Jenner 'Holystone' |

I don't mind sinking one point into it, since an effective +4 for one skill rank isn't a bad deal, but I'm happy to go with whatever and let Ashlynn and/or Sarine carry on with the Surviving. :)
Also, I may not get a chance to post again until Monday, going on a short camping trip. I might be able to before then, but if you wind up waiting on me, feel free to bot.
While we're loosely talking about party niches and so forth, it occurs to me we are a really melee party, haha. Nobody really went ranged.

Ashlyn Orellis |

@ Sarine - I'd like it if both of us went with survival. It's nice to have two players decent at it for those times when you need it and someone rolls junk.
@ Evie - Yeah, I was counting on Evie having the knowledge, perception and DD skills.

Aurelian Fache |

I think people should play as they want -- I'm always a fun of investing at least a rank in all my class skills (since it's basically four ranks) -- but as long as we're having fun interactions and keeping up our posting rate (which we certainly are, at least from where I'm sitting!), we've got everything we need. (That said, some ranged combat will probably be good.) :)
Heading out in a few hours.

Ashlyn Orellis |

Agreed! Although, admittedly, I put ranks into whatever my character would have or use, without regard to if its a class skill.
I'm fine with a 'flawed' party. Finding out how they cope with challenges can be fun.
Pfft! Ranged combat's over-rated! (That's a blatant lie... lol).

Ashlyn Orellis |

Agreed, again! This is also my first and it's been awesome.

Ashlyn Orellis |

Have a good trip, Aurelian.

Sarine Dulciare |

Nikolaus, how do you want to handle the fatigue at the end of Sarine's bloodrage? I could put it under Active Conditions, but it will come on and off quite a bit & might not be worth tracking there. Do you want me to kind of guess at when the minute after a bloodrage ends is up, or should I be looking at your messages for it?

GM Nikolaus 'the Grimm' |

Given that it takes twice as many rounds as you bloodrage its going to be measured in less than 30 seconds per time. So in general I'm happy to assume that, unless you rage cycle during a combat, the party gives you a minute or so to catch your breath - so don't worry about tracking it unless we're actually in combat rounds. :)

Fleur |

sorry - unexpected weekend events...

Ashlyn Orellis |

I don't really care that everyone gets a fair share of loot. I care that all our items go to someone who wants them and can make use of them. When we eventually sell stuff, I don't want to have to worry about who deserves a bigger share, I'd rather just sell it and split the money evenly (without regard to our individual wealth). I know it means some people will get less stuff than others, but I tend to trust it will all work out in the end.
Coins obviously get split evenly.
As for distributing them... Some items should obviously go to whoever can make best use of them (like the big sword went to Sarine). If a few of us want something, and can make use of it, I think we should see if they can agree who takes it, and if they can't maybe give it to who has the least gear? Not sure.
I do think, though, that if someone has something they're not using anymore, before selling it we should give everyone else a chance to see if they want it. All for one and all that.
Any other opinions?

GM Nikolaus 'the Grimm' |

Selling loot is tricky in this game - you either have to barter it with NPC's or send it off with the Peregrine to be sold. That works as normal but has a 12 week delay built in (6 weeks each way).
Because of this you will find that the loot you receive will be more than normally tailored to your needs! Not perfect obviously but I will try to avoid giving you guys any useless items that would only be used for cash.
As to distribution - in my games previously we've handed out items to the person best able to use them in the short term and then when we've had some time IC and OC we sell things and re-distribute to make things as fair as possible. (Good tip is to calculate everything by its sale value - no point saying someone has 3000gp worth of stuff when it would only fetch 1500 if sold!)

Quick Runner's Shirt, hey...
Who would benefit most from that? My gut says Jenner, since he's got the slowest speed..

Fleur |

I think quick runner's shirt gives you an extra move ONCE A DAY only.. just an fyi
