Sarine Dulciare
That's actually a good point. Does Sarine understand her sword any better than she did before? It glowed when we were fighting chokers before, but we never really found out what was going on other than 'cool magic sword'. If it'd help to have Knowledge (Arcana) rolls, I can make that. Spellcraft would need to be someone else.
Jenner 'Holystone'
I finally have Spellcraft now after the level up, it isn't high but I have it. So Ashlyn and I can make some emergency rolls.
I'd honestly be willing to sell the axe I got. Now that I'm fourth level I can make my axe magical, and the only benefit other than magic of the fancy axe is that it's 'seaborne', which does nothing for Jenner that his own feats don't already do. So that's an 8K-something item that could get us a nice chunk of gold. (Failing that, if someone else wants it-- Sarine really the only likely option-- you could have it.) I'd also be willing to sell the quick runner's shirt.
The constructs is a good idea, we should go back to them and listen to their lecture.
If I can make masterwork armor for Sarine I definitely want to!
Getting my sheet up soon.
GM Nikolaus 'the Grimm'
Since there seems to be a general consensus on another player being a good thing I'll invite Itzi along and you guys can discuss.
@Sarine - post in gameplay and I'll get back to you. ;)
@Jenner - I'll take another look at the crafting rules and see what I deem reasonable. I will of course need rolls from you! :D
Aurelian Fache
In terms of loot that's been dealt out, my general feeling is that then permanently becomes that character's treasure. If they want to give it up and no one else claims it, they should sell it and take its return as part of their own personal treasure. That keeps it a little easier to manage.
That said, I think you should keep the shirt, Jenner. That could be useful in a critical situation (until something better comes along, I suppose). As far as the ax, if you don't think you need it, Jenner...
I kind of feel the same for the meridian belt, Ashlyn. Unless there's something you want to replace it with, why not hold on to it? Maybe we'll get a ton of magical rings?
--
I feel like asking for Rayland's items feels really gauche. It's not something Aurelian would ever do.
Aurelian Fache
I'll be in NYC on Sunday and Monday and probably pretty busy Tuesday, so after today may not be able to post until Wednesday.
Jenner 'Holystone'
The thing is that with the nerfing of the quick runner's shirt it's useless for the primary purpose I'd want to use it for (i.e., hurry up to someone to heal them). I mean, I can hang on to it, but I pretty much only took it in the first place because nobody else evinced a strong interest in it. If we sell it I'd want that money to go to the group, not me personally.
And yes, the axe is a nice axe but it's nicer gold, as far as I'm concerned. That's like 4K the group could use, and everything it does for me is things I can duplicate on my own at this point. You're light blades, Ashlyn is unarmed+Elizar, and Sarine has her sword, so....
***
Welcome, Itzi!
With our bard out of commission for the foreseeable, we're a little light on knowledge skills more than anything else, I think. We have front-line fairly well covered, Ashlyn and I can each manage some healing, but as far as ranged and knowledge skills those are both big gaps. Also no way to deal with traps as far as I know. That said, I'm a big fan of people playing what fires their passions, not just try and duplicate a niche, but since you asked, those are some of the gaps. :)
I'll get an IC post up soon.
Aurelian Fache
Hi Itzi, welcome aboard. I agree with Jenner about playing what you want to play, but I'd also say we could use some more skills and further say a full caster (feels to me more like we need an arcane or psychic caster, though I'm not sure why I feel that way).
--
And Jenner, I guess if you don't think they're useful, we can sell itand the axe.
Sarine Dulciare
Welcome Itzi!
The others gave a good rundown of where the party is at. The only thing I'd add is that Sarine's familiar is close to gaining speak with master and could fill a bardic knowledge niche since it has the sage archetype...probably poorly, but we aren't as drastically missing in knowledges as it has probably seemed.
Ashlyn Orellis
Welcome!
Fair enough. I'll keep the meridian belt. So those three items Ashlyn identified were a wand of mage armour (16 charges), a ring of protection +1, and a cloak of resistance +2. I don't think any of us need to use that wand, but someone should take the ring of protection (I already have one). Someone should also take the cloak. Anyone feel under equipped? It's good for any of us, really.
Tettia Tuditanus
Ok, here's Itzi's character. She's an Inquisitor of Nethys. Bubbly and enthusiastic for her new adventure in a place she's always dreamed of being.
I haven't fleshed out the profile yet. Still have to write up the background. How much should I be spending for equipment?
Aurelian Fache
Aurelian could take either ring or cloak; I can get a bonus to saves so that's a little less important for me, but obviously it can be useful for anyone.
Ashlyn Orellis
Oh, hey, Itzi! I just realized you played Molly Fairlocks in that Iron Gods campaign that died a sad, whimpering death. I was Eska. I really liked your character for that one.
Jenner 'Holystone'
The wand could always be used to armor up Elizar, Ashlyn. I'd suggest keeping it. If Sarine doesn't want the cloak or the ring, I'd be happy to take them.
Selling the seaborne axe and selling the quick runner's shirt (unless someone else feels like claiming it, you're welcome to it if so).
GM Nikolaus 'the Grimm'
Come in at 4th level with WBL Tettia. The rest will share in the loot distribution before you arrive!
Rst of you - work out what you're selling and how much you get for it, then feel free to start making requests (like Sarine's bow). The ship coming in will be your only magic item shop for a few months!
I'll hold starting book 2 until Tettia is ready. Personal posts incoming later today.
Jenner 'Holystone'
As a side note, the unchained crafting rules aren't the worst in the world, at least.
I could do with a Pearl of Power 1st level, and I second the suggestion of a communal wand of CLW. At this level I tend to go more for lots of consumables than big ticket items, so Jenner would have a scroll shopping list of the following scrolls:
-Resist Energy
-Lesser Restoration
-Remove Blindness/Deafness
-Remove Paralysis
-Remove Fear
-Delay Poison
And a good supply antiplague, antivenom, acid flasks, and holy water, ideally. (Can some of those be made on site, given Alba is an alchemist?)
HP level-up: 1d8 ⇒ 4 5 it is.
eta One other thing is that with downtime and 2nd level cleric spell slots, I can cast Masterwork Transformation. The cost has to be paid for the difference (i.e., I have to use materials equalling 300 for a weapon, 150 for armor, etc), but basically it just is a boom, have a masterwork <item>, with an hour's cast. So regardless of how my craft rolls wind up playing out, I essentially hope to be able to have Jenner's own axe, backpack, crafting tools, and buckler be masterwork before we adventure again, once I have the post-sell-point wealth to pay for that (550 for those three items). Unless my craft rolls do that cheaper.
(Also happy to cast that for anyone else who doesn't yet have masterwork whatevers, provided you pay the component cost.)
Jenner 'Holystone'
Since I haven't posted enough tonight... I updated the loot tracker with a few things that I think the consensus is to sell, though there are two masterwork machetes if anyone wants a back up weapon (Jenner was carrying one, I'm getting rid of it). And there's the shield cloak; it didn't really speak to any of us before, so it's a SELL unless someone claims it.
I took the ring of Prot. Sarine, or anyone, if you want the COR+2, take it.
Sarine Dulciare
I'd love the cloak. I just wasn't wanting to jump in too fast since I have a cool relic sword.
I'll snag it, but if someone else wants it instead I'm fine with that.
None of Sarine's gear needs to be masterwork, really. I'm looking more to change the gear rather than just upgrade it. If Jenner is crafting, I'd be up for a masterwork breastplate.
Ashlyn Orellis
Got it! I'll take the wand of mage armour.
As for what she wants to purchase... I will think on it. I will definitely have something, though!
Jenner 'Holystone'
Jenner swims not awfully in armor; I can carry it if nobody else wants to.
Tettia Tuditanus
Ok, Tettia "Teddy" Tuditanus is completed.
I couldn't meld the personality I had in mind with being an Inquisitor, so she's now an Arcanist.
Yes, to confirm to anyone reading her Into/Background, she's never 'adventured' a day in her life. :)
Aurelian Fache
Yes, Aurelian opens many eyes. They have never seen anything like him before. But he enjoys when they stare. ;)
(Also, more seriously, please let me know if anything I do with Aurelian goes too far. He's intended to be fun and full of innuendo, but I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable.)
--
Sarine, I'd say take the cloak. Jenner has the ring, and currently has the bottle of air, per our posts.
I'll take a masterwork transformation on my rapier, Jenner. (Can we use the party loot for that, por favor? That'd be 300 gp.) The other alternative might be just ordering him a magical rapier. I think we've only got enough to get a +1 rapier at this point, but if he's going to (hopefully) be one of the big damage dealers, that might be the most efficient use of resources at this point.
Tettia Tuditanus
Oh, I certainly won't have any issues with it. :)
Teddy on the other hand ... well, let's just say that she's lived a sheltered life and might have a few words to say. ;)
Jenner 'Holystone'
One masterwork transformation coming up-- assuming we can do it before the arrival of the ship? That kind of is at GM fiat in terms of I have 'the components' on hand in a colony.
Aurelian Fache
So that's 300 gp for Aurelian's rapier. What else do we want to order, all? If you want something for your character, sing out.
(I could take a plume of panache for 1,000 gp, but it's not a high priority, as so far I haven't had any trouble with my panache and I've now got an extra one from my stat boost.) I also wouldn't mind getting a swordmaster's flair (blue scarf) for 2,500 gp (extending my reach by 5 feet for 1 minute).
Ashlyn Orellis
Hello everyone. This weekend is Thanksgiving so I will very likely be unable to fit in a post. Please bot me if needed. I’ll be back to regular posting on Tuesday. Thanks for understanding, and I hope you have a great weekend!
Ashlyn Orellis
Thanks!
Other than the group cure light wounds wand... Ashlyn is going to get a traveller's any-tool and four holy water. (Can she just get the holy water from one of the priests in town? Or does she need to order it?). I'd like a handy haversack but it's a bit out of my price range. We have... what? Around 2,000 gp each after buying the healing wand?
Ashlyn Orellis
She'll use her share on the handy haversack then. She'll pick up the traveller's any-tool next time, and trade for the holy water with the local priests when she can.
motteditor RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16
OK, so our total sale value is 7,952.5 gp, minus 300 for Aurelian's rapier, leaving 7,652.5 gp.
The haversack is 2,000 gp.
The wand of CLW is 750 gp.
A 1st-level pearl of power is 1,000 gp.
That's 3,750 gp, leaving us 3,902.5 gp.
Does anyone else want anything? If not, I'll get my swordsmaster's flair. That would leave us with 1402.5 gp, which could go to scrolls like Jenner mentioned and then we can just equally divide the rest. (I think we can get/make the other things on the island.)
Ashlyn Orellis
Yeah, get your swords master's flair. And Jenner's scrolls.
If there's extra coin in the end I'd like a traveller's any-tool. (250 gp). Otherwise I'll wait for next time.
motteditor RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16
Giving Ashlyn her tool leaves us with 1,152.5 gp
Scrolls would cost:
-Resist Energy, 150 gp
-Lesser Restoration, 150 gp
-Remove Blindness/Deafness, 375 gp
-Remove Paralysis, 150 gp
-Remove Fear, 25 gp
-Delay Poison, 150
Throw in a waterproof bag (though that's only good for 10 rounds of submersion) for 5 sp.
That leaves us with 154 gp, so let's just divide that among the four of us and call it a day. That gives us all 38 gp and 5 sp to add to our sheets.
Jenner, you can add the scrolls and bag to your sheet.
Ashlyn, you've got the tool and haversack.
I'll add the flair.
Sarine, did you get your breastplate upgraded? If not, that would actually take 150 gp, which means we'd each just get 1 gp for our personal accounts.
Sarine Dulciare
Sarine got her breastplate through Jenner's crafting, but we do need to mark down 150g for that. I had mentioned getting a masterwork composite longbow as well since we have very little ranged firepower, but if we're otherwise spending our resources well I can go without. We could even try to craft a good bow later.
Sarine Dulciare
Correction: the breastplate cost was 100g as per the gameplay thread, so we need to adjust the numbers for that.
If we're getting less than 50g each, I'd prefer that we just keep it in a party pool. Or maybe buy some acid flasks? It isn't like the gold helps us when a ship isn't in port.
Ashlyn Orellis
What's the cost on the bow you want? It's more important than the any-tool.
Sarine Dulciare
An ideal bow right now would be like a masterwork composite longbow +3 (or +4...it depends what we think of fatigue issues). That would cost 700-800g. If we decided that was too expensive (and that's pretty reasonable), then a non-masterwork longbow for 100g would work. We just wouldn't get any damage bonuses on that. We could maybe get two of the cheaper longbows and some arrows.
It's not super clear to me that the non-masterwork bows would be better than throwing javelins around. Keeping the strength modifier is a big deal.
GM Nikolaus 'the Grimm'
With Javelins you are technically throwing money every time since they have a 50% chance of breaking each time you use them.
I'll allow crafting of javelins if someone invests in metalworking/woodworking since they aren't much more than a good branch with a metal point.
All these purchases are fine, once you guys are finalised on what you're doing then I'll post and move the game on.
Aurelian Fache
I'll be working day shifts this coming week, which will throw off my schedule. I usually can still find time to post in my games I'm playing in, as that usually requires less time than GM'ing, but if I'm holding things up, please feel free to DMPC me.
