The gates to this small courtyard lie smashed and broken with tall grass growing amid the rubble. Two main buildings stand side by side to the east, separated by a single alleyway. The smaller structure appears to be a stable, while the other is much larger with several doors and stained-glass windows, apparently a chapel judging by the pious statues along its rooftop.

"Tell me, stonedemon, what matter of foe might these slaves encounter inside should they try to reach above their station? What will happen within should they fail Nulkineth? Tell them of the horrors within."

Eli spends so much time climbing, he arrives, out-of-breath, at the top of the cliffs, and spends very little energy adding to the conversation at hand, preferring to concentrate on slowing his heart rate.
He looks at Serra, then to the gargoyles, and back. A shame he can't be more coherent... What is he hoping for us to say? That we are docile little lambs to the stonedemon slaughter?

It all happens so quickly. The third gargoyle, given permission to "help" the legion below, begins to circle down into the ravine. Cole draws his bow and prepares to fire on the gargoyle heading for his troops below. Eli continues his climb, his keen ears picking up he subtle scrape of Cole's bow clearing its quiver. Jurin, clueless, continues to aid the old...uhhh, young...uhh... he helps Eli climb. Serra, quickly realizes that his plan is beginning to fray.
Cole, Ely and Serra can go in the surprise round, but Ely should probably use his to continue to climb (it's necessary to clear the top in this round).

Jurin immediately thrusts his sword into the eye of the first Gargoyle, leaving Cole free to pepper the second with his deadly arrows.
A quiet hush descends, leaving the faint clank and clatter of milling paladins in the ravine below. Too well trained to break ranks without just cause, the men are none the less a bit antsy at the sound of a skirmish without them.
And we are out of initiative.
There are two buildings leading off of the courtyard, both defaced by various cultist graffiti.

Eli returns to the cliff's edge, looking into the misty edge of his vision. He hears the clank and clatter, and so tries to wave to the soldiers below to let them know that the peak is secure. He trots over to the first building, and listens at the door as well as looks at the graffiti.

Eli waves down at Jothinra and the army below, then turns to the smaller of the two buildings.
The sharp tang of musty, decaying straw fills this large stable. Its easternmost wall has collapsed into a steep pile of broken beams and rocks that blocks the way to the other side. A large mound of discarded weaponry lies amid the rubble.

Serraling glares around for more foes, staring at each statue (if any remain) to check if they are yet more gargoyles. Only after he is sure that no foes remain does he let down his guard long enough to put on his armor again.
When re-armored, he reports in to Cole.
"Bah! I almost had them spilling what to expect inside. Someone or some thing named 'Nulkineth' rules inside," Serraling says, looking down upon his incongruous feet. "At least they did not attack while we climbed."
Serraling rounds his mighty hunchback to look at Ely and Jurin.
"It looks like it is just us. Shall we proceed inside? I want to meet this Nulkineth."

He walks into the building, or what's left of it, and looks at the pile of weapons. "Anything here of value? Doesn't look likely."

Eli heads into the large stable to assess the weaponry, largely for their numbers, to try and understand the extent of the loss of the warriors who once wielded said weaponry. He casts about the mound with detections for magic as well, to be thorough.

Satisfied with his accounting, Eli joins the others in securing the larger building next.

Most of the weapons found in the stable are broken beyond repair, but a few are still serviceable. There are three cold iron daggers, and 1 very nice cold iron longspear. Though not made of cold iron, a well crafted battleaxe and a very well crafted longsword are also found in the debris of the stable.
Soon after, the group turns their attention to the chapel next door. The vaulted ceiling of this massive sanctuary reaches nearly thirty feet overhead. Smashed stained-glass windows stretch in narrow bands above the doors. Four angelic statues occupy each corner of the room, though their faces and wings are cracked and broken almost beyond recognition. The walls are covered with disturbing shapes and runes that have been scratched into the stone. An altar, befouled with grime and filth, sits against the southern wall.
A total of eight creatures await inside. Two are dressed in decaying robes of some age, while the other six wear newer threads. The leader, hisses at one of the others, "Go, ring the bell!" while the others converge upon the new comers.

Serraling wipes the sweat from his brow, the heady exertion of combat heating up under his beard. His eyes turn left and right, seeking his squire to make sure the boy is away from danger.
Serraling offers a grim smile that his squire hides near Cole; he briefly reflects that he does remember Kastor climbing with the rest, but there he was.
He 5' steps and uses his recollection of his time with Kastor to remember what he had once learnt.
