Alright lets try this again. My last check for the Orcs of Kara'Kar went along swimmingly for an online game. So lets see if gold can be struck yet again.

I am looking for 4-6 players in an orc horde campaign using the Pathfinder 1st edition ruleset, based on World of Warcraft. (We aren't playing in Azeroth). I am expecting first level characters with richness in their building, not whole campaigns, just some spiciness. This means you can:

  • Go to The Orcs of Kara'kar Wiki to build your character. You can choose to be an orc, a jungle troll, a tuaren, or any number of other races.
  • Choose a class. This can be any class, except the gunslinger, in reality. Although the orcs are primarily aboriginal barbarians. Some classes with levels of sophistication have to be explained. (Like for instance, the Swashbuckler class in someways is too sophisticated).
  • Devise a rich history for your character. I want up to three ancestors your character looks up to and may want to emulate. These ancestor stories you've been told are mythic in quality (meaning the real history may not line up to the myth). The orcs revere the ancestors in their Shamanistic rituals.
  • Alternatively, you may devise an orc, jungle troll, or tauren tribe for your character's origins. The tribe must be aboriginal in nature.
  • You get to roll 2d6+7 six times for your stats. No stat may be lower than 8 or higher than 18 after adjustments.
  • The Date is 324 B.C., the name of the planet is Lemurias (an Earth Analog).

  • Dark Archive

    Hmm intrest shown,

Thinking about a Troll, although looking at your link there doesn't seem to be any rules for any of the races, or am I just not looking hard enough?

    [also shows interest]

A gnoll skald sounds like fun!
    2d6 + 7: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (6, 3) + 7 = 16
    2d6 + 7: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (4, 4) + 7 = 15
    2d6 + 7: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (5, 2) + 7 = 14
    2d6 + 7: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (2, 6) + 7 = 15
    2d6 + 7: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (6, 1) + 7 = 14
    2d6 + 7: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (4, 2) + 7 = 13
    Those ain't bad!

I wouldn't mind tossing my hat in the ring either!

    Set 1: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (5, 1) + 7 = 13
    Set 2: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (4, 5) + 7 = 16
    Set 3: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (5, 4) + 7 = 16
    Set 4: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (1, 1) + 7 = 9
    Set 5: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (4, 4) + 7 = 15
    Set 6: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (6, 3) + 7 = 16

Similar to William though, the wiki seems to be lacking things - or I'm lacking understanding how to navigate it!

I don't think you investigated the wiki hard enough. Here are the rules for jungle trolls.

Here are all the race options I worked up.

    2d6 + 7 ⇒ (5, 3) + 7 = 15
    2d6 + 7 ⇒ (4, 2) + 7 = 13
    2d6 + 7 ⇒ (4, 6) + 7 = 17

    2d6 + 7 ⇒ (6, 6) + 7 = 19
    2d6 + 7 ⇒ (1, 3) + 7 = 11

Wow all odd numbers. So Question. I rolled a 19 do I need to drop it to 18? Also I haven't looked at races yet was just checking the dice gods first. So I couldn't put a +2 in the 17 either as you want things under 18 right? Thanks. Will work on something tomorrow :)

Right. you can't have a stat that is above 18 or under 8 after adjustments.

    2d6 + 7 ⇒ (4, 6) + 7 = 17
    2d6 + 7 ⇒ (4, 4) + 7 = 15

    Neat!

Okay, so I'm going to make a Tauros Shaman (using the Paizo Shaman class, unless there's a shaman class in the wiki that I'm missing.

Also, I assume we're starting at 1st level?

I'll get his backstory written later, but here is my submission:

Yep, starting at first level. I wasn't awake five hours ago, so I am just getting to your submission. I made a cleric variant for the shaman incase you want to look at that.

    Shaman cleric archetype.

    Lok'tar Ogar!

Dotting for now. Curious about making an Orc Skald or something.

EDIT: Having thought about it and looking through the classes, this stat line deserves a Bloodrager. Definitely going to go for Orc Bloodrager, maybe go with the "Destined" bloodline and play a supposed future chieftain.

I do have a question though; would it be alright to have the Bloodrager's "rage" aspect work more like the Unchained Barbarian? I dislike how if you're just hit too hard, you're instantly dead when you go unconscious.

I'll have to check both rage rules and then decide.

EDIT: It looks like I see where you are coming from. The bloodrager's bloodrage puts him in peril of death. It's not instantly dead when you go unconscious though. The rules say "peril of death." This means the same as going into negative hit points. The cleric or shaman can stabilize you after a battle, if stabilized in time.

The Unchained Barbarian's rage has no "peril of death." I take it you prefer the Unchained barbarian's rage.

I took a look at your archetype, and it looks like you have two abilities that both replace channel energy, so you might wanna move the Turn/Rebuke Elementals part into the list of options to replace channel energy with.

    Just a thought.

    Okay. I'll think about it.

Clan Valleyhoof Tribe The Tribe First

Hinto Keenstrider (Druid - Most accepted story)
The first matriarch of the tribe, she led the tribe to where they are now, saving her people from complete annihilation at the hands of ancient enemies known as the Gall. A savage and twisted race that led armies of undead to slaughter all life on the continent in the dark times. She was known for creating the wards, wardens and animated defenders that defend the valley their tribe lives into this day. She was believed to be ageless and no known tome is known for her. After so many generations her creation abilities are still lost to forgotten times and no Valleyhoof has been able to recreate her wonders since.

    Tave Flamehoof (Druid)
Descendent of Keenstrider and known for her defense of the tribe in times of invasion. Undead threaten to sweep across the valley in waves far exceeding the wards abilities to combat. With her control of fire, she was able to lay waste to coming scourge with heroic effort. She was mortally wounded by the lich in command of the undead horde. However, the area where her flames fell on the enemy is still scorched black to this day but strange plants bloom there. Driving away unnatural or dead things with natural ease.

Simonyetach (Last Born) Darktotem (Dark Mage (Magus))

A more recent but equally obscurely unknown figure, one talked to in hushed tones by clan elders. The same elders try and hide her existence completely as she fell from the druidic path. Instead embracing the path of the Lich. She was known for imbuing her weapons with her magic but where she walked plants withered and died. Her death is unknown but it was believed to occur when she arrogantly faced the druidic circle of the tribe alone to claim her right as Chieftain. Many druids died before the battle ended in her defeat and since then her items have been locked away, her legend remaining mostly in obscurity until a tome fell into Minnir's hands.

    Valleyhoof

A largely unknown tribe, they stick to the valley of their mountain ranges and erect wards and wardens to keep unwanted outsiders out. These Wards are not the same as the legendary Hinto's, but they alert the tribe when danger enters their realm. Their population is unsurprisingly largely female, the tribes power structure is matriarchal and so far no male Tauren has ascended to the position of Chieftain. All the Chieftainesses since Hinto have been druidic, save for Darktotem whose claim was denounced by the druidic circle of the tribe. Each of these leaders has tried to replicate Hinto's power with limited success.

The Valleyhoof are a tribe that live along the ley lines, erecting barriers and keeping their farming lands safe from the darkness that lurks on the fringes. The abhor non-druidic casters, outright denying mages their right to cast magic if invited within their lands. They are a tribe that cheer on Barbarians, Rangers, Hunters, Druids and natural sort of fighter types in their ranks. Farming is the universal trade and aside from that profession crude engineering and village design. They do their best to live in harmony with their valley home, never building where they would block streams or in ways that would hurt the place they call home.

Aside from the revulsion of magic the Valleyhoof are a peaceful trive, minding their own business. Making their homes and raising large families to carry on as the older genreation dies out. A simple idealistic life without major push for scientific gain or change. Due to the disparity in the female ot male population it is not unknown for males to be shared among multiple females.

    Minnir - Background

Minnir is a pure white furred tauren with violet eyes and horns the color of marble, he stands at twelve feet tall and once hailed as a sign of good times to come and now would only be hated for his chosen profession of Magus. He stands at ten feet tall, surprisingly short for his gender.

Minnir was born to a pair of humble tauren farmers, his father was a smith on the side while his mother tended to his other five siblings of which Minnir was the last born.

    Their names are as followed:
    Father: Proudhoof
    Mother: Chehan
His four sisters: Mena (oldest), Chani, Harmachi, Kwali (Youngest)
    His Brother: Pachu'a

Unsurprisingly his brother and him were the last born in the line. Minnir being the last before his mother became barren, something that bothers her from time to time. But for the most part life was good... Until Minnir found the tome.

Minnir once thought to become a hunter but stumbling upon a tome during a stormy night changed his views forever. Within this tome was the true origin story of Simonyetach Darktotem, the origin story the elders never spoke of! And he wanted nothing more than to find the rest for himself. He has hidden his findings as best he could, building an earth shored cabin against the cave face and hiding the entrance behind a false wall within.

The cave is the place he practices his spellcasting, despite the wards outside that should normally alert the druidic circle to an unknown casters magic. The very cave he was in was a sort of magic dampener, weakening both the barrier and the magic presence he was creating while casting. All of this was detailed in the tome. Which was both Spellbook and journal. He learned the truth and did his best to learned the martial discipline behind being a Magus, not the Dark Mage the Druids and Elders had made it out to be.

To his frustration, however, his leaving the village hasn't gone over well with his youngest sisters, Harmachi and Kwali. Who pester him constantly to play, harvest or hunt with them. Sometimes even staying at his small cabin when the night comes too quickly...

Aside from his sisters, he is pursued by a few females as well, for his rather unique nature. Aiyana Pyremoon and Flo Mountainshout being the two most persistent ones. Natural rivals the pair are as opposite as they are powerful. Aiyana, an eight foot tall quiet tauren with black fur and bright green eyes, is a druid with great control over fire element while Flo is a, thirteen foot tall, loud brutish female who enjoys tests of strength and wrestling due to her abnormally dense muscles.

Minnir does his best to avoid them as he tries to advance his personal cause but both have doggedly pursued him for romantic interests he is not yet ready to accept! Though he fears they eventually forget their squabble and both pursue him together, something he knows he will have little ability to combat lest he learns quickly!

Do you want the rest of the crunch now or after he's accepted?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Wow, frustrated, huh? You think with all the attention he's been getting, he won't go emo on everyone, but it seems like he does. He could make a good anti-hero.

You can arrange the stats to taste. I thought that was clear, oh well. Naga can be a viable player race but I didn't stat them up for the Horde. They're in Phaeselis.

I most certainly do prefer the Unchained Barbarian's lack of a "peril of death". If that doesn't suit you, no biggie, I'll present a very a classic unchained barbarian or something.

No it's alright. We can use the UC barbarian rage feature.

Huzzah! I'll have something up late tonight or tomorrow, for certain then.

Are you saying this interest check is turning into a recruitment?

I put a Gnoll Magus build together. Is Magus ok as a shaman type? Is it to sophisticated? Thinking about backstory.

Was also considering playing a Zul'jin like character. "You want ax?"

If I went Zul'jin rout I was thinking of using Divine Fighting Technique Desna (would have to reflavor God here to something proper if that is ok) for the Starknife, but flavor wise just calling it a throwing ax. I would be doing this in hopes you would be cool with the Flying Blade Swashbuckler. So build wise would probably start as Warpriest. So fluff he would be shaman like, so then the flying blade abilities could be explained through a Vision Quest that he goes on when we level. Let me know what you think. I have to finish up my employee reviews today so may not be able to get anything built fully with fluff until tomorrow ow Wednesday.

    Yes.

I usually do interest checks first to see who is interested, then I turn them into recruitments. Simple logic.

Yeah, we'll go for a warpriest. Just remember how Orc shamanistic religion works, they revere the five elements: Earth, Air, Water, Fire, and the Wilds. I don't know about the earlier magus idea being worked up as a shaman type, but if you can work it out in your background it can work.

Does Zul'jin exist? If I go that rout I could just play him as he is starting to come about and make his mark on the world even if it isn't Azeroth. Thanks. Will get something going the next couple days.

He can exist, but normally he doesn't, not on this world. You can make him up if you want to.

I play a lot of Hero's of the storm. I think I will make him up :) Seems fun. Doing the range throwing will be tough until I can get a blink back belt. Know what I have to save my first 5k for :)

Okay, I did up a full recruitment for this thread. It's no longer an interest check, have fun submitting your characters for Shamanistic and Aboriginal adventures during the Second Kingdom of Kara'kar. Wish I could take you all to southern Russia, oh well.

Forest troll stats are located at the end of the Jungle Troll stats as an example of how to put them together.

Forest Troll: These trolls are explained in the "Forest Troll" section of this chapter. Essentially a troll that lives in the woodlands with moss growing all over their bodies. Combine the Woodland Bond and Hatred traits to create a Forest troll.
    -----------------------------

Hatred (1 RP): Some trolls cannot forget their past. Choose two subtypes of humanoids or outsiders or one creature type other than humanoid or outsider. These trolls gain a +1 racial bonus on attack rolls against creatures of these subtypes or this type. This replaces the Weapon Familiarity trait.

Woodland Bond: Some trolls are happy in the woodlands. Incidentally, their body becomes covered in moss while they spend time in the woodlands, and no one knows why yet. They gain a +2 AC circumstance bonus while in temperate rain forests. Replaces the Warm Forest Bond trait.

Yeah I saw that later when looking closely but couldn't get back on Paizo to post :) I have Zul'Jin done, just working on backstory. Will post later today or tomorrow with him.

I am going on vacation tomorrow and will not be back to posting normal until the 13th so if looking to start before then I would have to come in a bit late assuming I'm selected. Thanks. :)

I will be on to check my games here and there while gone. Talk more on the 14th :)

EltonJ, I apologize. Work right now is too hectic, and I can't give my gnoll skald the attention he needs, so I wish to bow out of the recruitment. Good luck to all applicants.
