I can not allow dark money. All gains should be in the light, for the light shines the truth to all.

attack on dark money1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
damage on dark money1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

On reflection, though, maybe we should have to show some kind of aptitude for political maneuvering to secure a space in a Kingmaker game.

I think you'll find that Sigaldren is more than capable of performing the sort of verbal dodging required when dealing with political rivals.

Background:

Terri peered out between the slats in the side of the wagon. To the untrained eye, it looked like the square was empty. To the young thief in the wagon, it looked like she was going to need a miracle to survive the next few minutes. Shadows shaped like men congregated in one of the dark alleyways.

"Search the wagons," came the harsh whispered command.

She tried her best to squeeze as tight as she could against the front of the wagon that was her hiding place. The metallic slithering of coins sounded like an avalanche to her ears. The clicking of boots on cobblestones caused her heart to hammer in her chest as she glanced between the gap in the slats once again.

Someone was coming.

Her throat tightened as imagined fingers slowly began to squeeze the life out of her. The men after her had been the only family she had had for as long as she could remember. She knew that if they caught her, she was dead. She just hoped it was quick.

The taste of blood filled her mouth when the tarp was lifted up. It was over, she thought. The man glared at every dark corner of the wagon, but the one that held Terri. She held her breath until light poked through the slats and gaps between the tarp and the sides. A few minutes later she was out of the town and planning on getting out at first opportunity.

---

The smell of sausages caused her stomach to grumble loudly.

"What are ya doin'?"

Terri looked embarrassedly at the old man, and was relieved to see that the spear he was carrying was not pointed at her.

"Sorry, I'll be on my way."

"Nonsense. Ya sound hungry and I haven't heard a good tale in ages."

"I'm afraid I'm not much of a storyteller."

"Bah, nonsense. I'm sure ya're wonderful. Ya look like a lass with quite a tale."

"Not that much of a tale."

"More than ya probably think. Surely ya have a few minutes to spare. A tale for some lunch, sounds fair to me."

Terri looked at the food that was sizzling in the skillet. Half would be more than enough for her.

"If I can eat while I talk you have a deal."

---

She didn't remember much from before growing up with a bunch of thieves. She remembered knowing that her parents were gone and not coming back, and that was it. She was hungry, scared, and above all, cold. Winter was closing in and she would have likely frozen to death before hunger could kill her.

That part of her life was boring. The next part was much more interesting. A young thief found her and took her in as an apprentice. The gang of bandits and thieves was always in need of more small children to pickpockets and act as distractions. Terri certainly fit that description. She proved to be better than most at it. The thief that took her in took her under his wing and showed her the ways of the trade. She found out how to lie, fiddle, and scare people into doing what she wanted. She learned how to see lies and half-truths. Picking locks and hiding in shadows came as easily as walking to her.

The lack of a conscious didn't. Something gnawed at her until she finally decided to rob the robbers and give it to those in need. Unfortunately, she was caught trying to leave with over five score of gold coins. She lost her pursuers in the chase, and...

---

"I hopped into a wagon, covered myself as well as I could and rode out for a day before I got off, and now I'm here."

"I'm afraid ya're right."

"Not much of a tale?"

"Storytelling is not one of yar talents."

"Oh." Terri smiled and finished off the last forkful of meat and potatoes.

"Well, if ya're looking for a way to lie low for a while, head south. They've got some kinda thing goin' where explorers are charged with clearin' bandits and settin' up towns. Seems like somethin' ya'd be interested in."

"But I don't know about any of that stuff."

[b]"Ya seem like a smart one, I'm sure ya'll figure it out."

---

Terri walked into town. The feeling of being full had stopped a long time ago, but the feeling of hope didn't. She say the men and women gathering in the town and looked for something that looked like it was official.

If anyone's listening, I hope you have a plan, because I don't

She started walking towards a harried looking clerk at a beaten table.

Submitting this character that I drew up for another Kingmaker game. He's a sword and board ranger whose family hailed from across Avistan.

Hey Terri! I saw that we had been in the same Crimson Throne. This is Andre Cyre. Good Luck on the application!

1.5 hours till the end of recruitment, and we still get a new applicant.

You too man. Said that it pretty much died. It looked like it was going to be pretty interesting too.

I know, I thought that there was a lot of potential there. It's a shame when your DM disappears. Good background btw.

Recruiting center is now closed.

Yep! Good Luck to all!

Well, my votes have been in for a while now. How's everyone else doing?

Mine is in as well.

Yep, submitted mine too.

I have voted too, via PM this time. ;-)

Mine have been sent. Now the waiting begins.

Thanks and good luck!

Votes are submitted. Now we wait...

I have received exactly 11 private messages at this time, which tells me some individuals are still needing to vote!

Voted.
Good luck and have fun everyone.

That is an even dozen votes.

Out of curiosity anyone peeking at the campaign info tab?

Yes and the maps are awesome. How did you do them?

voted

Mostly "borrowed" them

The image of Oleg's was one someone else did for a KM game a couple years ago.

I also try and add things (images) especially to get a feel for the area.

If the game calls for a path through the woods and offers some description, i like the text fine, but usually try and add something like...

This

into the post or the campaign info tab.

Up to 15 private messages!

I'm at work so I probably won't be posting a vote until tonight when I can go over everything.

Yeah that´s pretty cool. It´s a good thing when imagination can run wild and sometimes its good to let everyone have his own, but often its pretty good too to set a group on a mutual path with pictures. With landscape and combat and such things i try to get as graphic as i can, for tactical reasons too. And most times i try to show NPC pictures or the like too.

I understand that people need time to vote.

I expect us to kick everything off on Tuesday of next week.

I know I said monday, but monday is a holiday for me and I will be off and up to no good!

I Voted earlier and can start any day or time except tomorrow for me and the wife are going away from the kids for a night of being up to no good.

Just sent my vote in, so that will bring the tally up to 16. Only six more people left to vote! Good luck to everyone!

Nice stuff KenderKin really helps set the mood and immersion.

Alas, the firewall of the school I teach at is blocking me from seeing them. O woe is me! Will just have to wait until I get home I suppose.

My vote in :)

17 private messages in....maybe I should start counting!

Only five more votes left! We're in the home stretch!

the anticipation is always hard to take. LOL

I hope mine counted. Submitted it a tad early out of fear of lack of access at work today.

On lunch break at work, checked all the stuff on campaign info tab. Very nice, and will be very useful to the PC's. Great work.

Same here, and I especially liked the map of the fort.

I have gotten a number of requests along with the votes.

At least some of those request have made sense. ;)

One of those is to not give any type of vote count, to avoid drama/comedy ie dramaedy. I think the idea of secret ballot should apply to private messages to the DM, so I agree not to say anything about the votes!

I would like to add that if you were not selected to not have a public discussion of the votes. Who voted for whom, etc.

The other suggestion

Spoiler:
Bribe ;)

suggested the other kingmaker books, I have one and two, but that others might kick in for those pdfs when we get there.
At the rate of play-by post that might be a long while!

Another idea was to make three parties: the vote group, the DMs choice group, and the absolute loser group and run the three seperately to see who does a better job of the AP.
This sounds impossible!

Hahaha oh yes running the same AP with three different groups is insane! The best source for total and continuing confusion.

The first suggestion I agree entirely with, and while I I'm not unopposed to going along with the second suggestion, it's probably gonna be quite a while before it's a concern.

As far as the three party thing, I only have one comment. Yikes!

I was just noteing some of the un-expected things that came along with the votes! I am always surprised by the unexpected!

I really only thought the first one was really applicable.

So I am looking at vote talleys and have alot of really close numbers so those votes that are still out are very important (to someone)!

Seriously! I have 3-4 possible PCs with the same number who all need one more vote to be in!

and another few who with more than one vote would be in.

Yikes! Good luck everyone!

So no pressure then...

gulp.

My suggestion: party of 22. No sad players, slowest progressing PbP ever.

I keed I keed.

Once the campaign for a party is over, we can take the party on a campaign.

The anticipation is killing me!

Wait aren't the PCs one of 4 groups given a charter? Divide the 22 into 4 campaigns, then have their 4 kingdoms war against each other. ^_^

My votes're in. Good luck and I hope to see ya'll on the other side. :)
