The OTHER Rise of the Runelords

Game Master KoolKobold

1 to 50 of 51 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

Hello. I am opening a re-recruitment for my RotRL campaign. I'm seeking three PCs (I already have one PC), as we have somehow lost touch with our other three PCs. Not sure whether it was because they lost interest or if they have become too busy in other things to participate.

Regardless, here are the rules:

Rules:
Races: All Core, plus Aasimars (with -2 CON), Ratfolk, Tengu, and Tieflings. Any alternate racial traits you want? You must ask for my approval first. You can only choose ONE alternate racial trait (even if it replaces 2 or more original racial traits). Once you’ve chosen your alternate racial trait, you cannot change it after approval. Also, if you want another race that isn't on this list (with the exception of Drow, Dreugar, Goblin, Hobgoblin, Orc, Strix, and Gillmen) you must make a character that has a legitimate reason to travel to Sandpoint from...wherever they're living.
Ex: Our remaining PC is a kobold sorcerer (white draconic) who hails from a tribe far from Sandpoint; he has traveled there due to the fact that he has heard it was once the realm of a powerful dragon. And he wishes to rule a great realm of his own.
Classes: All except Antipaladin, Cavalier, Gunslinger, Ninja, Samurai, and Summoner. All classes from Advanced Class Guide and Occult Guide are prohibited. Archetypes are prohibited unless you have my approval.
Traits: Choose 2 traits from Advanced Player’s Guide. One MUST be from the following campaign traits:
-Eager Performer: +1 to any one Perform skill/+1 to the save DC of any one enchantment spell
-Family Ties: +1 Knowledge (local), Knowledge (local) is a class skill, begin reading/speaking Varisian
-Friends & Enemies: Get a heavy combat trained horse, military saddle, saddlebags, bit & bridle, 1 month's worth of feed (for free), and a lifetime stabling at Goblin Squash Stables (for free).
-Giant Slayer: +1 Bluff, Perception, & Sense Motive and +1 attack & damage rolls versus Humanoids (giants)
-Goblin Watcher: +1 Appraise & Perception; +5 Appraise to find the most valuable item in a treasure hoard
-Hagfish Hopeful: +2 Fort saves versus diseases
-Merchant Family: GP limit is increased by 20%, and you can resell items for 10% more gp.
-Monster Hunter: +1 attack & damage towards aberrations and magical beasts
-Scholar of the Ancients: +1 Knowledge (arcana) and Knowledge (history) checks, and begin speaking/reading Thassilonian.
-Student of the Faith: +1 caster level for cure spells, +1 to save DC of channeled energy.
-No PC selected will have the same campaign trait; make sure that the campaign trait selected matches your character's personality (or make a part of the personality a part of the campaign trait).
Max Gold
1st Level
Max HP, after this average HP for every level increase
Alignments: Any non-evil
Weapons: All except firearms
Magic Gear: Unapproved until GM gives permission to purchase
Crafting: Limited to just scrolls and potions (until GM gives permission for magic weapons)
15-point buy
Provide with following descriptions:
-Physical: Scars, hair color/eye color, facial hair (if any), skin color, birth marks, tattoos, etc
-Personalities: Happy, anti-social, impatient, naïve, bubbly, easily tickled (i.e. is easy to make him/her laugh), etc
-Origins: If your PC is from Sandpoint, explain his/her relations with some of the NPCs. If the PC is not from Sandpoint, explain where he/she came from, why he/she left, and/or why the PC decided to come to Sandpoint.
-Likes/Dislikes: Should be simple enough.
-All of these shouldn’t be in-depth, but should be more of a summary for each category.
ABSOLUTELY NO:
-God-modding
-Cheating
-Insulting/bad-talking other PCs or GM

Please note: I am a first time GM, and thus some rules I may not truly know about, but I will be able to pick up on the rules relatively quickly. Also, I may be on quite a bit during the Thanksgiving break, but after that my time may be pretty limited to a couple hours per day (except on Saturdays).

Our remaining PC is a kobold draconic sorcerer named Azzerix. I have three available spots, and I will keep the boards open until Wednesday, December 3rd.

I hope to have a lot of fun!

well hello again.

still need a Fulito?

I was the non-chosen in the original recuitment

Are you starting fresh? or continuing where you left off?

Hmm...Not quite sure. I think I may want to restart, but that may change.

Regardless, we have the first possible new PC-I take it the halfling bard is the PC?

Dotting for interest

I might like to join in, still working out the kinks of the character but here is my base idea for him are as follows and in this alias

Lawful Neutral

Still deciding on race but he is either human or aasimar

Class is a little confusing? to clarify with the way things are listed you are allowing Oracle correct?

Short description of my character

His goal is essentially to conquer the world, he is traveling around gathering strength, knowledge, and anyone willing to follow him on his path. He believes he can save the world and does help people just because it is the right thing to do, however he is also willing to perform darker tasks if it means working toward the greater good.

He is serious and tactically minded, he believes that people should strive for better than what they have, he despises corruption but also hates idealism and naivete. he tries to maintain an air of nobility at all times.

he is Varisian in Origin, he spent much of his youth studying anything that he believed would grant him knowledge or power. Hence i will probably be picking Scholar of Ancients

if you think he might fit into the campaign let me know, there will end up being more in the Alias.

@Azzerix I don't plan on serving anyone, for that matter neither should you. You could be so much more...

So you think you are good enough to serve the Winter Dragon?! We shall see!!!

Yes the same Character that did not get selected for you last recruitment.

Hmm...he has a goal that would fit with an evil character (world domination) but yet he's doing it in a non-evil way...sounds good, just post the full statistics when you're done.

And yes, I am allowing oracles.

"...I'm sorry, I must have misheard you. It sounded like you refused my majestic and EXCEPTIONALLY generous offer to be my personal Talon! ...but that can't be right, because nobody denies the Winter Dragon! Conqueror of Sandpoint, goblins and spicy salmon!"

Well I'd like to jump in.

First of all is the Mindblade Magus archetype permitted? The original charatcer idea uses it. If not I can change the build without needing to change the backstory.

Adolina Isabella d'Jhaltero
Adolina is the bastard daughter of Baron Trevon Jhaltero, a prominent Kintargan aristocrat and his favored mistress, a beautiful elven woman named Estebana. Estebana's untimely death from an illness shortly after Adolina's birth was never explained to the satisfaction of Kintargan gossips but the common theory was that the Barons wife, a powerful ad dangerous woman in her own right, had finally decided to remove her rival permanently.

Regardless of the truth, the Baroness found herself spending far more time at her families estates away from the city. Adolina grew up alongside her two half brothers and Baron Trevon took pains to treat all his children equally. Adolina therefore grew up in an atmosphere of luxary until her twelfth birthday, when her father enrolled her in Lady Docur's School for Girls. Knowing full well that Adolina was unlikely to ever inherit the family title the Baron sought to ensure that his daughter would be well provided for in case of his untimely death. At Lady Docur's school Adolina learned a wide variety of skills, which stood her in good stead when her worst fears were confirmed by her father's death.

Her half-brother Canton assumed the family title and endowed his half-sister with the wealth that their father wished for. In return Adolina voluntarily left Kintargo and travelled towards Magnimar, clearing the way for her brother's uncontested assumption of house leadership. Her passion for Ancient Thassalion had long been an open secret, which provided the perfect excuse for a long holiday.

Physical: Half-elf, very long red hair (which she is very proud of), deep brown eyes and a narrow face with a pointed chin (the most visible sign of her elven ancestry). She has no tattoos but bears a thin scar across the left hand side of her neck - the result of a dueling accident.

Personality: Adolina is a naturally happy soul, who believes in family, duty and honour as key parts of her nature. She loves her brothers dearly and fully believes that leaving was the best way she could serve both her family and her fathers memory. She is a perfectionist, determined to master every skill she sets her mind to. This makes her short with people who interrupt her study but her love of new things and skills makes her an engaged listener and dedicated student when given the chance.

Her major flaw is big-picture thinking and idealism. Her personal values and book knowledge can make her decision making less than practical and she would benefit from a more pragmatic companion to temper her idealism.

Origins: originally from Kintargo, Adolina has departed Cheliax to avoid any succession disputes as her older brother takes over the running of House Jhaltero. Her cover is a holiday-cross-research trip to explore Thassalonian ruins on the west coast. She has been corresponding with Broderick Quint, although so far they have yet to meet in person.

Likes: Good friends, family, books, learning new things, fine clothes.
Dislikes: House Thrune, being cold, losing, knowledge that she cannot understand.

Crunch stuff
Adolina is a chelaxian half-elf.
She'd like the 'scholar of the ancients' campaign trait if possible. EDIT: having just noticed that Alexander the Blessed is after this trait too I can use either Family Ties or Friends and Enemies if we are both chosen.
Alignment will likely be Lawful Good, but this may change based on the class I end up running with.

Sorry... this story rather got away from me... hope it's got everything you want.

Hmm...while the concept is great, unfortunately I can't really allow the mindblade archetype. It's because since I'm not allowing any Occult Mysteries classes, that means I won't use any psychic magic. It's more out of unfamiliarity with the system than personal taste.

I apologize. You can still submit a magus if you want, just not a mindblade.

Background:

Alexander Asher, also called Alexander the Blessed is considered a prodigy. He left home recently to study the world and enlighten himself so that he may accomplish his goal of conquering the world and become a great and worthy ruler.

Much of his youth was spent in study by choice, during this studying he learned about the other nations of the world, demons, devils, political corruption and other forms of absolute evil.

on his 18th birthday he had a dream of a woman to whom he begged for the power he would need to save the world.

Sorry if it's a bit bland, not some of my better work with backstories.

Appearance and Personality:

Black hair, Violet eye's, pale skinned, roughly 5'8, weights 119 lbs. Wears generally blacks or purples and gold trimmed clothing, long sleeved. Keeps himself clean and well groomed.

He is very independent, has tendencies toward being a bit smug or acting superior, he believes strongly a leader should act from the front line and lead by example, He is honorable to an extent and will fight and opponent how they choose to fight him. If they fight unfairly so will he.

Most importantly he values saving the masses over individuals. in his mind the two are different, one cannot get one without sacrificing the other. The greater good is whats most important to him. He views order and law as siding for what is right, in his mind the "Order of Morality". He follows laws and orders, but will support a righteous rebellion if their methods stay true. If he makes a promise he will always keep it, "as ruler is nothing without his word"

This should be everything,

@KoolKobold

That's fine - my original thought was a mindblade but I can make other things work.

Would i be allowed to use an Aldori Dueling Sword and the Duelist prestige class together? It seems completely logical, but doesn't work because the sword is slashing... would you allow that or do I need to work my way up to slashing grace first?

Looks okay Alexander. Though what about the campaign traits? I think that Scholar of the Ancients is your campaign trait-you'll need to choose one more trait from the Advanced Player's Guide (or Ultimate Campaign). Unless you did choose one but didn't put it down.

Regardless, it'll work.

So far, I have the following PCs who I can choose:

-Fulito (male halfling bard)
-Alexander (male human oracle (lore))
-Adolina (female human magus)

I'll allow some more (I probably won't get more than 6 PC applications so that I won't have as trouble selecting), but so far, so good!

@Nikolaus: I suppose that's fine. It doesn't seem like that much of an overpowered weapon. I'll allow it.

And for anyone who wants to use prestige classes later down the line, that's totally fine.

Adolina isn't going to be a Magus now - either Cavalier or Fighter. Can I clear a couple of archetypes to narrow down my choices?

Daring Champion for Cavalier.
Free-hand fighter for Fighter.
I was also thinking about Eldritch Guardian but I don't think it really fits in with her background...

Also - she's a Half-Elf, not human. Sorry, i should have made that clearer in the first post! :D

Ah I see now. Apologies. Let me see...*looks at the archetypes*

Okay...while I can't really allow the Daring Champion (due to the fact that it uses some abilities from a class that isn't allowed-aka the swashbuckler (all Advanced Class Guide classes aren't available sorry)) BUT the Free-Hand Fighter is definitely available.

I'm sorry I should've made it more clear that, if the classes from Advanced Class Guide and Occult Mysteries can't be used, then any class archetype with some abilities from the afromentioned books cannot be used as well, along with psychic magic.

I'm sorry about this, I'm just not familiar with either of the classes from the two books. I truly apologize for the confusion.

So far we have the following applications:

-Fulito (male halfling bard)
-Alexander (male human oracle [Mystery: Lore])
-Adolina (female half-elf cavalier/fighter [Free-Hand Fighter?])

If it's not listed my bad, I picked the cosmopolitan trait. unless you mean i'm supposed to get a campaign and two regular traits in which case i don't have a 3rd

Oh sorry. I thought that was a feat, not a trait.

actually funny thing is it's both a feat and a trait with the same name but yea i have the trait version

Huh. Did not know that.

Anyways, if you guys have anything else to ask, go on ahead. If I don't have more than you three by Wednesday, I'll just add you three.

It is a holiday weekend for many, so there may be more out there that just have not checked in yet.

probably get more tommorow, today being thanksgiving and all.

True. Then again, it's also Black Friday tomorrow. Not that it's a holiday, but I bet some possible PCs will be fighting against a different kind of goblin at midnight-then pretty much sleep the rest of the day.

Alright, dotted. You got me interested. I'm looking at a Fighter (OR Barbarian), or a Necromancer oriented creepy Wizard (OR Oracle of Bones) character.

I can get some fluff and crunch up by the end of the weekend.

Alright, thanks. Can't wait to see the work.

Silver Crusade

Adolina's stats can now be found on this alias' homepage.

She's nearly finished, just need to know a couple of things from the PM I sent you KoolKobold.

Hello! I would like to submit a character for consideration: Ethan Sower, Human Cleric of Erastil.

Ethan was part of a previous RotRL pbp campaign that fell to the wayside.

Anyway, I have adjusted his stats to meet your criteria. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

I'd be interested in jumping in on this as well. Will you be allowing the Titan Mauler archetype?

@ Ethan Sower: This PC looks great! Thanks.

@ DM Mathpro: Hmm...I suppose the Titan Mauler will work.

Would you consider Catfolk?

fulito all edited and verified

Are you allowing the background building stuff from Ultimate Campaign?

Hello there, do you allow variant heritages for Aasimar and Tieflings?

Sorry guys. Couldn't get on yesterday due to returning from my folks for Thanksgiving. Anyways-

@Kitster-Hmm...I could allow it. There just needs to be a good explanation for why a catfolk got into Sandpoint.

@Fulito-Thank you

@DM Mathpro-It's allowed, though it's not mandatory.

@Carl Hama-Yes, I do allow them.

Sorry for double posting, but I'll be ending the openings on Friday December 4th (I decided to push the deadline forward a bit).

Here's what we have so far:

-Fulito Ferrywarden (male halfling bard)
-Ethan Sower (male human cleric of Erastil)
-Alexander the Blessed (male human oracle of Lore)
-Adolina d'Jhaltera (female half-elf cavalier)

Not to mention that we do have one PC that's still with me from the previous PbP
-Azzerix (male kobold draconic sorcerer)

I think we have 2 or 3 more people who want to submit a character sheet, so again, I'm giving you guys until Friday.

Sorry this took so long but here is my Titan Mauler Barbarian. Background will be added by the end of the day.

I am going to be on a family vacation from Thursday, December 3rd, through Monday, December 7th. I am still very interested in playing, and I will be ready to go on Tuesday the 8th, if I am selected.

Dark Archive

What about prestige classes?

@Duraz Durak: KoolKobold has already said that they will be fine when PC's reach that level. (post #15 in this thread).

Toban Ragemont-thanks! I can't wait to see the background!

Ethan Sower-no worries

Duraz Durak-like Nikolaus said, once your PC reach the requirements and level to be in the prestige class, you can put levels into that prestige class.

Also, I may or may not add one more PC to make a total of 5-although Rise of the Runelords is meant to be a 4 party adventure, I've seen PbPs who've had 5 PCs and have no problems. Any of you guys think that's a good idea?

It's really up to you Kool. IF you want to run it with 5 then it's your game to choose. Personally I've never found that 5 was much more overpowered than four and you could always up the challenges a bit or slow leveling down if you wanted to compensate.

All in all I'd be fine with playing in a five person party if chosen. :)

if you think you can handle it then it should be fine, most modules have a party of around 4 in mind so you might need to adjust if you think it's needed

Background is up. Its something rather unusual and I hope you like it...if you want more standard background details please let me know.

Alright, I'll make sure the party becomes a 5 party team!

So, today's the last day of submitting characters! By tomorrow @ 4 pm (Central Standard Time) I'll be no longer accepting submitted characters and will decide who will join with Azzerix.

Here's who we have for the applications:

-Fulito Ferrywarden (male halfling bard)
-Alexander the Blessed (male human oracle of lore)
-Adolina d'Jhaltera (female half-elf cavalier [replace mount with dog companion])
-Ethan Sower (male human cleric of Erastil)
-Toban Ragemont (male human barbarian [titan mauler])

If you guys have any questions, just either comment or send me a PM.

Yeah, I'll withdraw from this. I have other games to tend to, so I wouldn't be able to fully commit. Sorry.

Very eagerly awaiting your decision and in the interest of full disclosure I wanted to let you know I have tried to run this on the boards several times before but I have no problem separating character knowledge from player knowledge.

Silver Crusade

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Would you allow the cryptbreaker alchemist archetype?

I know there's not much time left, but I could get something done in time if I hear back soon.

Silver Crusade

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

ok, at this point, I don't have the time to put this character together, so I'm going to have to withdraw my interest, unless the deadline changes.

Have fun, everyone!

Alright, I have made the decisions for the new 4 PCs! Joining Azzerix will be

Fulito Ferrywarden (CG male halfling bard)

Adolina d'Jhaltera (LG female half-elf cavalier [replace mount with dog companion])

Ethan Sower (LG male human cleric of Erastil)

Toban Ragemont (CN male human barbarian [titan mauler])

I am so sorry Alexander, I wish I could've chose you as well. But I only had enough room for 4 new PCs.

I will start the campaign later tonight. But first...I will send each and every one of you a PM, asking where your character is located (i.e. do they live in Sandpoint or are traveling to Sandpoint), as well as either where they live/work in Sandpoint or why they're heading to Sandpoint. Azzerix will be the exception as I'm aware of why his PC is going to Sandpoint.

I hope we have fun!
