The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

I would have no problem with that as long as you can separate GM and character knowledge (which I don't doubt you can do).

Liberty's Edge

That shouldn't be a problem. =)

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

Would any of the fellow GM's mind if I dotted their gameplay threads to help keep tabs on the other thread's progress?

I would rather keep my Gameplay as clutter free as I can so I can have you post the first part of the next NPC but random post are a no no. x3

P.S. If any DMs want me to know something just PM me concerning their game. Sense I have enough on my plate and will likely not have the time to check on everyone's games.

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

I have introduced an NPC in Dockway near the Naval impound yard. That may be used by anyone.
Guard Captain Florborax Witherwarch Cabbaine, or Ol' Shorteyes. You can call him Captain Cabbaine. He is short in just about every way except smarts, and has a bit of a chip on his shoulder when it comes to the Order 'assisting' him. His temper is something of local legend.

LN Gnome Druid, Tiger companion. Has special dispensation from the Watch to wear hide armor and have his Tiger on duty.

Please post with any details your group uncovers/you make up so I can keep him up to date in my thread.

Do we have some details on the murders? Like the names of the victims?

Until our Over Dm confirms his return and starts thing up I am running my game without the murders. No need to split focus until things are ready. :)

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

I'm going to introduce it soon, but my players won't be assigned to it until I have details.

Liberty's Edge

You can actually delete a post in a gameplay thread after you post it and it will still be added to your campaign list for tracking purposes.

Any word from the OverDM? (Overlord? Overmind?)

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

He's not due back until the 19th at the earliest.

Players asked for list of victims. :O

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

Ya, I'm getting close to introducing the murders here... Now is when I wish I had his phone number.

This is starting to become difficult without information. :p

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

ya, we might have to start improvising and posting what we have made up here so others can reference and use what we have created.

Heya folks, I'm a player in Jen's game.

Just sayin, I'd rather not see this die because UberGM is MIA. I support what ever decision you all make.

Choon, have you introduced the killer or dropped any hints on him? I have given a few hints and defined a few aspects. If you have mentioned anything, hit me up with a PM. :o

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

I haven't yet as my players aren't finished with their first encounter yet. I'll use and build on what you have. I'll send what I set up to the other DM's. Could you send what you've set up/ are thinking so we don't get wires crossed by inferring different information from borrowed clues?

My players are in their first encounter and the murders have not been introduced yet.

P.S. Sorry if I don't check in a lot. If it's not in my campaign tab I tend to forget. ;-)

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

Same here, Alaion. I tend to remember this thread once a day at most. Maybe once per two days. :(

Male Kobold (reincarnated as) Human level 6 DungeonMaster/Level 2 Munchkin

I apologize for my absence I have been dealing with moving and attempting to find a new job so My availability is truly inconsistent. As soon as my schedule settles I will be able to jump back into regular paizo activity.
For the record my email is
tlhgeek@gmail.com if anyone needs to get ahold of me quickly.
Any questions can be directed there as well as I wont be able to get on here much until I have employment and stability.

To put it in simple terms I'm trying to solo a dungeon in life and I need as many nat 20s as I can get.

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

Good to hear from ya, man. A couple quick things
Could you PM us your notes on the murders so we can match them up with our current skeleton?

Also: Are you willing to replace GM Tallgrass? He's been MIA for as long as you have. We have a replacement GM already volunteered in Feral.

Edit: Now that I read that it seems really insensitive...
I truly know what you're going through. My wife and I moved about 5,000 miles once under similar conditions. You can survive. You will survive. One day at a time.

I'm really excited to see you posting again, even if it is infrequent, thus the immediate question barrage. :)

Liberty's Edge

What good timing. I was just about to post in this thread. =)

Earlier today I finished up my turn co-DMing Second Darkness so I have more DM-time available. If I wasn’t needed for this I was going to start a WotR game.

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

Great minds think alike, Feral. I just PM'd you about this. :P

@Tobaris
Well some notice is better then no notice. That being said I hope things settle down for you in a good way. Until then I will just run my game until you have time to set up your plans properly. Again best of luck getting settled and working. ;)
________________________________________________________________________

Glad I am not the only one still looking in here. As far as the murders go I think I will keep that out of my game until things are set up and ready to be unleashed. Thanks Jen for the PM btw. My PCs are still getting their feet wet so to speak with their first encounter. Which brings me to a little problem I find myself in. I set up the encounter as a sort of intro to the complex webs that make up the underworld that the PCs will be moving and operating in. But thanks to the dice gods blessing my DM title a little to much, I have knocked out one PC and another is on fire about to join them. Keep in mind it was not all the dice, but crits did play a part I won't lie. The PCs made a few, in my humble opinion, less then wise tactical choices.

Lone story short, the encounter was intended to be nonleathal if not easy. Yet I find that had I not scrambled behind the DM screen I would have killed two PCs in two rounds. Any advice or suggestions for the future or for encounters in general would be most welcome. >.<

Death is a part of the game.

Afterlife adventure!

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

I'll grant you the less than wise tactical decisions, Alaion, but that's a tough place to be in, too. Yours looks to be a brutal game. Not that I run much different. Two of my players nearly bit it in their first battle. Such is the nature of lvl 1.
I say, as long as you make a good yarn out of it and everyone's still having fun, it's all good. Just make sure your players are ok with what's happened. :)

Male Kobold (reincarnated as) Human level 6 DungeonMaster/Level 2 Munchkin

Another possible idea is that it allows you to reveal a terrifying secret about the family. Something along the lines of the family having some pull over resurrection or some such.

Also for the Record I'm establishing GM Choon as the Vice Over GM i Im not here or a plot decision needs to be made its up to him. I will support any decisions he makes in my potential absence.

Liberty's Edge

Tobaris did you have any opinion on me (or someone else) picking up Tallgrass's game?

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

Yes, Feral, you have permission to take over Tallgrass's faction. You may create your own thread in Recruitment or just hop over into his and announce your ascendency.

I also will be PMing plot points to the GM's tomorrow. I can't tonight as I'm pushing 5 hours of sleep as it is.

Hurray for progress!

Alright. I'll reboot the recruitment thread tonight.

Are there any guidelines I should be aware if? If there's meant to be a certain amount of competition it seems a good a idea to have some degree of consistency.

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

There were character creation guidelines discussed in the recruitment thread. See any of the other faction recruitments for those. Psionics are allowed, as you know. I'm not sure what else you mean other than character creation.

The two that immediately come to mind are:

Are we planning to level people at generally the same pace?

Are we going to try to stick to WBL?

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

1) Leveling will be event-based instead of XP to avoid one group getting ahead of the other. Tobarius (or, I guess, me now) will decide that. I expect the end of Over-GM events will constitute a level, especially this first one.
(I'll have that up today)

2) General adherence to WBL can be maintained, though if your players are a little
under or over I doubt it'll ruin everything.

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

The following post is for GM's. I thought it more convienent to post this here so we could collaborate on it.

Copy pasta from Tobaris:

The murders are part of a ritual to reactivate a major wrath Sinwell.
Each murder raise the wrath score of the district which is specifically limited to the borders of the district. Anyone who spends more than an hour inside adjusts their attitude to the wrath score
I had a scale but my notes were lost when my external hard drive died
Deaths should be at somewhere between 12 and 19 after 22 deaths the district becomes unfriendly as a whole 25 and the district is hostile 28 and the district erupts into all out riot which counts as success for reactivating the Sinwell.

The murders are mostly poor males and high class women.
The truth behind this is there are two murderers a husband and wife who have taken over the No-Horn Tavern for their own. The husband is a skilled wizard specializing in the emotional effects of ancient Thassilonian magic. The wife is a skilled thief and assassin who has a talent for clean getaways, Together they are arranging the ritual to bring the district into riot and if they aren't stopped it will plunge the entire city into wrath and chaos.

How to adapt, my theories:

I'm not all that familiar with Sinwells, but I have already started showing this kind of effect in my game. Nobody's happy, everyone's easy to tick off, generally angry, etc.
Most of this can be adapted to our current dossier easily. As the murders progress, they can begin to focus on the targets mentioned above.
The fallen Paladin (Antipaladin?) we originally had as the murderer can be an accomplice of the husband/wife duo, or under their magical control.

Concerning time and its passing:

I would like to suggest the following:
In general, we could limit our players to investigating one murder scene per game day. GM's will then post or PM to which sites their group is going to the other GM's. If two groups intend to go to the same site, a crossover would occur. The GM's involved can decide who arrives first at the site (by player RP or roll) and the players who arrive second would appear in the thread of the first to arrive. Both GM's would supervise the interactions, though preference would be given to the actual GM of the thread. To foster contacts, it can be assumed that there are three times to arrive, morning, afternoon, and night. This way we don't have groups always just missing each other.

Thoughts?

Do we have stats for either of the killers?

What kind of clues should the players be on the lookout for?

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

Not sure, Ferral. We're going to have to collaborate on that and/or have Tobaris hand us down something. I say lets focus on clues first and stat up the culprit(s) later.

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

This is a Public Service Announcement:
I'm diving head first into last prep for my national certification test on the 20th. Therefore, my posting will probably slow a bit until then (but it won't stop because I have to blow off steam somehow). I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Very good luck to you. :D

Male Kobold (reincarnated as) Human level 6 DungeonMaster/Level 2 Munchkin

For those of you interested a starting reference point my Rise of Thassilon campaign may provide inspiration as it was the idea that began this encounter

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

My party has been sent to this site:

Spoiler:
1st of Arodus - Three bodies were found in the cargo hold of three different leisure ships, with no identifying marks.
Hard Clues: I plan to have identifying marks on the bodies hidden with transmutation magic. The aura is very faint and hard to spot under the aura of the Gentle Repose spell cast on the bodies. Dispelling this effect will reveal that one victim is a fisher's wife from west Dockway near Underbridge, the second is a merchant's assistant (single) from a recently set up merchant's guild that's trying to get a foothold in to Magnimar's shipping market, and the third is a priest of Nethys who manages a small shrine in the north-east corner of the district.

Moderate clues: There is a secret compartment on the second ship that is hidden magically. It is empty, but contains traces of blood and a partial hand print they could use to place the wife at the scene.

Easy clues: Each ship has been cleaned, as if the murderer knew the bodies would be found. Or wanted them to be found.
Each body has a mask.
No reports of anyone getting on the ship or leaving the ship on the night of the murders.
There are slight impressions on the rail of the third ship from climbing tools. Wife used tools on the third because husband ran out of scrolls of fly spells.

If anyone has anything they would like to add to this site, please post them in spoilers here. As Tobaris has yet to provide details of each site, I say we make it up as we go and reference each other for consistency.

on the culprits:

They should be no more than 5th level because they aren't major villians and the level cap of the city's NPCs isn't that high. They probably should be lower as our PC's will be lvl 1 when they are confronted. Say 3 or 4? If several groups (or all groups) engage them cooperatively, then we could buff them to provide the appropriate challenge.
Feedback, suggestions, and disagreements with me are welcome :)

Male Kobold (reincarnated as) Human level 6 DungeonMaster/Level 2 Munchkin

I like that so far

On the culprits:
I agree completely that was about where I envisioned them. I think that if the parties take it down cooperatively there shouldn't be any buffs. It should be easier to take them down cooperatively, instead I would remind them that they to will likely be under the effects of the wrath aura as well and therefore much less likely to collaborate. Especially when you consider that theres only so much 'glory' to go around. However I think that if the party engages them on the culprits home ground they should get a distinct advantage possibly even enough of one to force a party into retreat. At the very least if they get attacked on their property it is likely the culprits would have planned several escape routes and bolt holes. I think that one murder per 24 hour period would be about the rate they would be going at although the occasional multiple murder may result in a lull for a few days

future weirdness:
I have been toying with the idea that every 7th mask is infused by the ritual. Quite by accident, caused by the husbands misunderstandings of Thassilonian magic.
Several months after the ritual succeeds or fails if the masks aren't destroyed the animate. Moving like scuttling insects they attempt to force themselves on a host, although if someone is foolish enough to put one on under their own will they are an easier target. The mask then forces the host to become a violent monster slowly warping the subject mentally and physically for maximum destruction. Any ideas or opinions on that?

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

Future weirdness:
That might be a cool encounter, but I can't really see how that could lead to party interactions. Maybe in how they're destroyed?

Male Kobold (reincarnated as) Human level 6 DungeonMaster/Level 2 Munchkin

Future weirdness:
I'll grant you that. Perhaps if I come up with a reason deeper than 'because magic' for the masks it will lead to a beter adventure. Perhaps not on its own but as a precursor to greater things to come.

I finished recruitment and opened up my gameplay thread.

Here.

I'm planning on running them through a brief bonding/icebreaker mission and then I'll start them on clue-hunting.

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

You have one creepy alchemist there, Feral. That one will be interesting to watch.

Net down so can't respond to much. Hopefully things will be back up soon. My PCs are at just after the encounter and all alive. Hopefully they will learn from their run in and I can introduce the murders soon.

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

Initial description of the murder site is Here. Feel free to give feedback/add ideas.

Net back up, hope it stays that way.

GM's Only:

Thinking I may introduce the murders during the PCs first mission for the Solrath. Have a body on the ship they are supposed to steal from along with some city guard coming shortly after they find said body. Yay's or Nah's?

As for the culprits. I would say a 4th level enchanter (manipulator) and 3rd level rogue (chameleon).

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

Looks good to me, Alaion.
