Family
The belter way of life runs deep in Cathrine's family. They have been spaceborn as long as they can trace their linage back and very few of its members have broken the tradition. Generations of containment in small areas, sunlight deprivation and and questionable gravitational fields have given them a distinct set of traits. They are all tall, pale and all too happy when they can spend weeks without other people. A bit traditional and a tad hint of xenophobic, family is still family and ever Gagarin looks out for eachother. Cat's particular branch of the wiry family tree contains her father Nikolai, her mother Anastacia (married into the family from one of Lysandra's belter families), Cathrine herself and her two younger brothers, Vladimir and Nikolai Jr. Early life Cat grew up on the family ship, like her father and grandfather and so on before her. At her very first years, it was a small boring cage. There are many parts of the ship which are unsuitable for young (and/or unsupervised) children, and among belters, this period is usually among the most testing. But the young girl soon adapted to her life and started amusing herself with books and music, hobbies that are cheap in space. And responsibilities come fast among the stars - at the age of six she watched over and cared for her siblings and at eight she flew the ship on her own. Other then the incident where her suit helmet cracked open due to a close call, most things went somewhat smoothly and by fourteen she was a fullworthy member of the small crew. Aliens! One day while she was tinkering with her one of the consoles at the bridge of the family ship, she heard an interesting transmission. A ship had arrived! At first, she didn't pay much attention to it. The zealots typically tried to get across the blockade once in a while, never really succeeding. And while she certainly spent plenty of time hollowing out asteroids so they could serve as proper space forts (a process which was quite lucrative to the belters - first one got to deprive the rock of its mineral wealth then sell the husk to the navy!), the actual mining took place far away from the 'front' and the forts. But then, more details started to emerge. It had materialized out of empty space, far away from any know warp node! She shot up straight, promptly banging her head into a metal panel. Despite the ringing headache, sitting hurdled with her entire family around the radio and just trying to soak in all the chatter was the defining moment in her life. A ship ... Previously, she her life had been almost on tracks. She knew what she would be doing - she knew how her future looked like. But now? It felt like the whole universe opened up! Suddenly, just the Lysandra system felt small, tiny even. She didn't want to dig around in the same old belts anymore, she wanted to plunge into the great unknown! But. She would need a ship. Waiting for her inheritance was still far off (hopefully!) and she wasn't patient enough to wait that long. Besides, all the good finds would probably be gone by then. No, she needed something alot sooner then that. Somehow! She watched the formation of the Telthani-Lysandran cooperation pact and the plans for a joint spacestation closely. She even urged her own family to partake in the construction, citing the probable profits. Now, neither Ana nor Nik were stupid - they easily saw trough their daughter and realized her true purpose. So, while they worked relentlessly on the new station they sent out a few feelers, pulling strings and poking contracts. And as it turned out, word was that the Telthani were building new ships rapidly. They just needed skilled pilots and a sizeable down-payment. The banks would never really grant such a loan, but there where whispers of a man whom wasn't that concerned about collateral. At a very *beneficial* interest rate, of course... Recite:

Rook class:
Rook Mk 1 - Mobile Science Outpost
The Rook class of vessels are designed to be small, fast, and self sufficient. Taking no more space than a standard shuttle, the vessel is packed with instruments and equipment to allow a small crew of one or two to travel to remote locations for research and reconnaissance. The vessel flies just as well in an atmosphere as it does in space, has the ability to refine fuel for itself or any carried vehicles, and has a number of small workshops to assist in any equipment maintenance or repairs. In addition, the top-of-the-line computer is preloaded with research materials to assist in planetary analysis, though it is only capable of loading a few such datastores at one time. Personal devices may be linked to the central computer for remote access to its databanks, as well as to request long range sensor and comms support. The ship has an auto-pilot capable of creating and following intricate flight paths, as well as assisting with evasive maneuvers and defensive countermeasures should unfriendly circumstances present themselves. Finally, the front attached mining laser can be used to assist in gathering material samples, and a small cargo bay provides room to store equipment, samples, or other gathered materials.
