Outrun scans the news online and some stories catch his eye. He makes a note and bookmarks all the pages and stories that seem relevant.
After his breakfast he looks over and see's Hypatia.
In a blink he's sitting opposite her at the same table.
"Sorry about that, mind if I join you?"
He raises his cup to signal the confused looking waitress at his old table to show that he's move and needs more coffee.
Smiling he leans over the table and shows his phone to Hypatia to share his findings.
"So I dunno about you but I've found this. Vandalism in New York at the Museum of Adventurers."
He swipes to the next article and continues "Someone stung 10 000 times by wasps. Sounds like one of our guys."
And then swipes to the last article. "But this here, a lecture tonight at UC-Santa Barbera campus by Templar. I reckon that's just asking for one of our convicts to cause a ruckus."
He then sits back as the coffee comes and gets poured into his cup and he nods a thanks with a smile to the waitress then takes a sip waiting for Hypatia's response.

Err, it's UC Santa Barbara. Source: I work there.
"And someone's planning to auction Slingshot's old armor. But, like, tonight."

"It would seem the question is - do we divide and try and cover all bases, or use our joined resources to increase success on target?"
Hypatia Kuningatar |
[ooc] Given the costs it will be just a single casting for now. The question will be "Where will Bradford Tethers, also known as Slingshot, be within the next 24 hours?".
"Our main advantage would be our ability to work together. We don't want anyone to get into trouble where the rest of us can't help. New York is too far away and doesn't seem that urgent. Might be worth trying to hack either the museum's or the cop's computer systems to try and find out more details though. Where did the wasp attacks happen? And do we know where the auction will be?"
S¡m¡lé |
"I'm not a hacker, but I can use a computer, I may be able to infiltrate the museum or the police station personally - though if I am caught I'm not going to fight the police to escape."

I'll take that silence as a no, so we'll push on.
The group has decided to attend the lecture given by Templar, an adventurer who is also a member of the Catholic priesthood (although no one knows his real name). As expected, there is a large crowd that has gathered in Campbell Hall, the largest lecture hall on campus. The 900 seat capacity hall is filled with students, adventurer fans/groupies, and the general public. People are standing in the aisles to listen.
Your group is lucky, in that they could get seats, but unfortunately there were none that were available as a group.
After waiting about 20 minutes, some stagehands wheel a platform onto the stage, which has three large objects on it, each covered in a drop cloth.
Then the guest of honor arrives, wearing his trademark armor and full helm, Longsword on his side and shield on his back. He moves steadily to the podium and begins to speak, without preamble and to the point. As he speaks about the economic and political conditions leading up to the story of David vs. Goliath, quite a few people in the crowd get up and leave. Clearly, they were here not to listen to a lecture, but to see someone famous up close. It isn't long before they are joined by a stream of people until only your group, a few hardcore fans, and actual students remain. about 20 people in all. For his part, Templar doesn't even seem to notice the crowd leaving, but forges on, talking about the costs of constant war with the Philistines was on the verge of bankrupting the country.
He is about to change the focus of his arguments when someone from the audience begins slow clapping. Slow, methodical, and clearly mocking, the person, who turns out to be a short, black-haired Caucasian young man with wire-rim glasses, continues to clap, which drowns out all of the noise. Clearly, here was someone looking for a fight.
Templar notices and stops speaking, clearly looking at the person in the audience. Now that he has everyone's attention, he stops clapping, stands, and says "A lovelier fairy tale I have yet to hear. It's a shame that it's so much trash, like your entire sham of a so-called faith. Worshipping dusty old men will turn you into one, Templar old bean." The man takes a step forward, and suddenly is standing in front of Templar, the podium nowhere to be seen. "Shall we dance the dance macabre, or will you admit that you pay lip service to a weak and impotent deity."
With that, the man turns his back contemptuously on Templar and begins speaking to the crowd. "Let me tell you a better story. It's the tale of a boy who wanted to be a knight, like in the books he read as a child. Of course, such things never really existed that way, but he hoped, and he prayed, and an alien creature heard his prayers and answered them, granting him powers to" he puts air quotes around the next part of his sentence "protect the weak. The problem is, the man was a coward deep down, so he tried to hide his cowardice behind a shining helm and do good. Everything he did felt hollow, however, because he knew it was all a lie. He was a like a junkie, looking for his next fix."
As the man has been speaking, Templar has not moved at all. That changes, however, when he hears the next words "Of course, I'm talking about our 'hero', Templar here. Of course, that's not his birth name, it's Er..." whatever sound he was going to make goes away as Templar's massive armored gloves snake around his throat and begin squeezing the life out of him. When this happens, the man smiles and snaps his fingers, and the remaining people stand up and draw sabres and begin moving up to the stage.
What do you do?

As the man starts clapping Simile studies his face and build, making mental notes in case he proves notable so she can impersonate him later.
When Templar and the man start their altercation, she glances around and if no-one is looking, shifts back to her 'Simile' form, while reinforcing her body structure Cast Mage Armor

Hypatia stands up "Easy there. Templar why don't you put the nice man down and maybe his 'friends' will put their nasty swords away and we can all continue to listen to the fascinating we all came here for"
I don't really expect this to do much except buy a little time to get a better gauge on the situation and provide a small distraction but I'll roll anyway
Persuasion: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
At the same time Hypatia reaches out mentally to the rest of the group.
Hypatia here. Give me a thumbs up if you can see in the dark
I presume that the room is lit mostly or entirely by artificial lighting?

Darkness doesn't bother me Simile replies, feeling slightly odd about using her telepathic powers again.
