Male Irish Bard/2

Stop giving us ammunition... :P
We can't help it....we're so downtrodden.
Everyone defecates on us.

Female Human Fighter(Two-Weapon Warrior) 3/Brawler 4 AC 21, Touch 15, FF 17 | HP 53/53 | F +10, R +9, W +2 | Init +3 | Perc +11

Oh yeah! Like I'm not. Worse off then you are! XP

Male Irish Bard/2

Only if you let yourself. We all have things to complain about. Life isn't fair but you make the best of it.

Braedan should be the rightful king but Fintan's mother screwed around on the king and had Fintan. She hates both of us. Fintan and mother both want the king killed so Fintan can be king. Aoife has no responsibility besides her normal chores. We're giving her the chance, like Padriac to make something of herself. The queen won't like it but the king or Fintan when he's king can do what they want.

Tell you what, Braedan will take your punishment for disobeying. How's that?

Male HP 22 (16) / AC 17(19) Touch 14 Flat-Footed 13(15) / Fort +3 Ref +6 Will +0 / Senses Perception +6 / Eagle +12, Survival +4 / Eagle +6 Human Falconer/Trapper Ranger Level 1

Look at me, I went out with my friends and did just what they did. Three of them got punished and one of them is plagued by dreams. What did I get?! Well.... Cows and status... but still.

Male Irish Bard/2

Yeah, you suffered big time dude. LOL
For the record, I'm the kings favorite and did not get punished only verbally reprimanded. There's a difference. :)

Female Human Fighter(Two-Weapon Warrior) 3/Brawler 4 AC 21, Touch 15, FF 17 | HP 53/53 | F +10, R +9, W +2 | Init +3 | Perc +11

Don't tell me, tell Aoife.

It isn't about responsibilities, she doesn't want Fintan hurt because of her and she scared for her life. Aoife truly does believe that if she does this and, no matter if they come back with the spear or not, the Queen will take this chance to have Aoife's head removed. Because the King will not be here to stop her. It isn't that she doesn't want to go, she really believes she cannot go.

Male Irish Bard/2

Fintan, Brother O'Maille, Padraic and Braedan not to mention Father O'Maille won't let that happen. I mean she can scream all she want's but no one left is going to defy us. For something like that, she would have to wait for the kings return. We'll have Padriac's bird eat out her eyes after we put her head on a spike.

Female Human Fighter(Two-Weapon Warrior) 3/Brawler 4 AC 21, Touch 15, FF 17 | HP 53/53 | F +10, R +9, W +2 | Init +3 | Perc +11

If their mother is left in charge, they don't really have away to stop her... unless they lock Aoife up somewhere she can't get to her.
Point being, Aoife is terrified. Get her over that and you're good.

Male HP 22 (16) / AC 17(19) Touch 14 Flat-Footed 13(15) / Fort +3 Ref +6 Will +0 / Senses Perception +6 / Eagle +12, Survival +4 / Eagle +6 Human Falconer/Trapper Ranger Level 1

Fun to see everyone active on the thread! I'll give Fintan some time to reply, and then get you all on your way! The King rides tomorrow...

Hmmm... Or perhaps the King rides tonight...?

Word of warning: this battle will be tough! Consider it an exercise: I want to see how battles function in PbP, so as to decide what part they will play in the campaign...

Thanks for your patience!

If you want Fintan to speak with Aoife during their sparing just put it above the post for the wolves and we can fill in that gap! ^_^

Male Irish Bard/2

Wondering if someone could explain this to me...

Versatile Performance (Ex): At 2nd level, a bard can choose one type of Perform skill. He can use his bonus in that skill in place of his bonus in associated skills. When substituting in this way, the bard uses his total Perform skill bonus, including class skill bonus, in place of its associated skill’s bonus, whether or not he has ranks in that skill or if it is a class skill. At 6th level, and every 4 levels thereafter, the bard can select an additional type of Perform to substitute. The types of Perform and their associated skills are: Act (Bluff, Disguise), Comedy (Bluff, Intimidate), Dance (Acrobatics, Fly), Keyboard Instruments (Diplomacy, Intimidate), Oratory (Diplomacy, Sense Motive), Percussion (Handle Animal, Intimidate), Sing (Bluff, Sense Motive), String (Bluff, Diplomacy), and Wind (Diplomacy, Handle Animal).

Suggested March Order:
(Single file)
Padraic
Fintan
Braedan or Aoife
Brother O'Maille

M Cleric (Ecclesitheurge) 4 | HP 34/34 | AC12 T12 F10 | CMB +3 CMD 15 | F5 R4 W9 | Init +8 | Perc +12
X/Day:
Spells | Command x3 - Sanctuary DC17 | Bull's Strength - Calm Emotions x2 - Shield Other DC18 | Channel 5/5 DC14 | Inspiring Word 7/7 | Touch of Law 7/7

Versatile Performance

Let's say you choose to put skill points into Perform (Wind Instruments). The associated skills are Diplomacy and Handle Animal. This means that you substitute your bonus on Perform (Wind Instruments) for Diplomacy and Handle Animal. So if you are not trained in Handle Animal, for example, but have a +5 in Perform (Wind Instruments), you would have a working +5 for Handle Animal. Did I explain that well?

Edit: I'm okay with that marching order.

Male Irish Bard/2

Thanks...edited my character sheet to show my understanding. For some reason, I thought the bonus was added to the current skill.

As of right now, I'm imagining that Fintan is more morose than usual during the spar, going through the motions with Aoife while clearly distracted. He's got a lot on his mind.

Haha, if I'm lucky I won't have to. Supposedly I've got a lot of work to do on the computer, and moreover it's supposed to be a stormy day and I usually work on a register in retail. Meaning... Yeah, it'll probably be a breeze.

And yeah, I just imagine that Fintan is really, really good at hiding his anger and letting it out on other things. There's wolves around, so all is well. And he loves his brother, so.

Absolutely nothing to do with this campaign, but: is it just me, or is the whole recruitment process a real s%~$ show?

Oh it's horrible. I'm in eight campaigns right now and pretty happy with that number. But MAN getting into a game is a soul-crushing experience. My tactic was to wait at least a day to see what the general trend in applications is and post a build that's more in demand to try to help my odds.

On another unrelated note, it's funny/weird to see the other games people are in. For example: Padraic, Aoife and I all play in a Second Darkness campaign. Aoife and I also play together in a Hell's Rebels campaign. Small world :b

Male Irish Bard/2

There's a lot of things that bother me about it.
Primarily is all the promises to post daily...lol.
Then, the seemingly random way in which people are chosen.
You put your heart and soul into a character and someone who obviously just thew something together at the last minute gets chosen.
Fustrating to say the least.

I hope that submitting for this campaign wasn't so painful! It never crossed my mind to keep a whole bunch of people on the hook. And building a character sheet! Ridiculous amount of work, for nothing. It really should be: express your idea, submit a character concept, and done.

GMs should do their homework and look at the people applying, plain and simple.

My two cents.

Nah, this one was surprisingly easy. You didn't keep recruitment open for, say, a month and get 20+ applications before selecting a team. You've also been very active and timely in your responses.

I know it doesn't translate perfectly, but I've most assuredly recycled characters from failed recruitments before.

Holy crap, the dice HATE me when Fintan tries to attack. I would murder for the Hero Point system right now (assuming I could roll high enough to murder someone and take it from them, that is).

I may have to steal your Touch of Law next time. Argh, that would've been 36 damage, too!

Also, thanks to Charge and Rage, Fintan's AC is 12 right now.

Yeah, I'll say this: Fintan generally uses one big attack, and his damage is massive. Attack bonus buffs and AC buffs are the sort of things he needs (to make sure he hits / doesn't get killed).

But yeah, we can't predict everything. Since the dice DO seem to hate Fintan hitting things, I'd be happy if in future rounds you gave me Touch of Law, but that'll depend on how many wolves pop out of the woodworks.

Eventually, Fintan WILL hit someone with his spear. Eventually.

Jesus Fintan is your AC really only 16? So on a turn you rage and charge you have AC 12? Dude... If you live this is gonna be a miracle. On the plus side though, King doesn't have to have you killed then I guess. :-P

*Realizes a dumb thing*

Since my horse is combat trained, I could've had it attack one of the creatures before it took a five foot free step I believe. Ergo, may I roll a 1d2 to see which of the other wolves I would've had it attack, then roll for its hoof attacks? (Two +3 hoof attacks, 1d4+3 - they're normally 1d4+1 if the creature isn't combat trained because they're treated as secondary attacks, but upon being combat trained they go up from -2 to +3 attack, and their damage increases to that of a primary natural attack).

I forgot that I could have it attack before I moved. I'm not used to playing mounted characters. (I AM correct in that my horse can attack before the five foot free step and my attack, right?)

Also, yeah, bad AC. But that's because...

1) My DEX isn't amazing.
2) We don't have access to Heavy armor yet.
3) No shield because the damage with the lance is more fun without it.

I will trade several cows for a good suit of armor, yo.

EDIT: Also, the upside to the damage/AC tradeoff is I can actually 1-shot most enemies we'll encounter at levels 1 and 2. Damage with the lance (assume power attack) = 13-20. Damage on a mounted charge = 26-40. And while I won't depend on crits (I only get 'em on 20's with confirmations after all), a mounted charge crit would deal damage from anywhere between 78-120 damage.

I just need to roll decent attack rolls.

Pshaw. Nah. Play the character you want - if Fintan gets seriously injured or dies, then... Well, Fintan is Fintan. Fintan COULD do that because he's reckless and not concerned about his own safety. It's a bad pair of traits to combine with being a dunce. Fintan will eventually get in over his head, and that's just something I've accepted.

And besides, death drives story. It doesn't end it. I'm looking forward to the roleplay.

(And note, I love both roll and role play, but if Fintan's statistics ever get in the way of the roleplay, I can tone him down.)

Female Human Fighter(Two-Weapon Warrior) 3/Brawler 4 AC 21, Touch 15, FF 17 | HP 53/53 | F +10, R +9, W +2 | Init +3 | Perc +11

I know, I was poking fun. Though Aoife still may do that because Fintan is very reckless and right now he's kinda the only friend she has, so keeping said friend alive would be nice.

Could you direct me to said rules on riding? I couldn't find anything, so I made a call based on opinions on forums...

Another question: given that this will definitely be a low magic campaign, would automatic bonus progression make sense?

Male Irish Barbarian (Mounted Fury) 1 / Fighter (Dragoon) 1

HP 14/26 | AC 16 T 12 FF 14 (-2 AC raging) | Fort +6 Ref +2 Will +1 | Initiative +2 | Perception +5 | Sense Motive +1 | Rage Rounds 4/6

Oh, I misread it. I was looking at this page and apparently took what I saw from the Unchained Rules, but those wouldn't apply anyway as I don't have enough ranks. (With unchained rules and 15 ranks you could use a Ride check in place of CMD for the purpose of not being tripped while mounted.) Thus, it would've been a DC 21 ride check. But I was wrong, so even THAT doesn't apply...

I... I think, actually, that Fintan would've just been tripped while mounted. He doesn't have anything to keep him on his horse, save a ride check you'd have to decide on, yeah. Nevermind.

EDIT: Also, automatic bonus progression IS nice for campaigns such as this, mostly since it means you don't have to worry about loot as much. And when you DO worry about loot, you focus on making items cool.

For instance, instead of making sure Padraic got a +1 bow, he'd already be getting the +1; so you could make a fiery bow, or a bow whose arrows shed brilliant light that reveal his foes, making it super useful at night. Or instead of giving us a +1 cloak of resistance, you could leave a ring of featherfall; or instead of making the Spear of Lugh a +X weapon of Y material, it could just do some cool effect.

EDIT 2: And in the future, if you want Fintan to just be knocked off his horse given that he has no object to stay astride, that's fine. I won't be offended if combat maneuvers prove to be an amazing way of dealing with him.

I agree with Fintan. ABP is great. It makes the game more magical, really, taking out the need to purchase bland mechanical benefits.

Done. Automatic bonus progression is on. You all can make adjustments when you wish.

As for tripping riders... I figure that it is more difficult to trip a rider, than someone on foot. So here is what I propose:
1) if the trip succeeds, the rider rolls to stay mounted
2) if the rider fails the roll, he is tripped and takes an additional 1d6 damage from the hard fall (unless he succeeds an acrobatic roll?)

The DC of the riding check would be 5+CMB.

Sort of a yin and yang sort of thing: you get a roll to avoid being tripped, but suffer more if the trip is successful, which makes sense given that you are mounted...

What do you think?

PS: thanks for handling the map. I couldn't be bothered. I'll have one posted next time... :)

Cool, I believe ABP doesn't kick in till 3rd level when it grants a +1 resistance bonus on all saves.

Male Irish Bard/2

Inline with your comments about tripping a rider, you would think that the wolves would have attacked the Horse. It would be much harder for them to attack Fintan since only his legs would have been within reach. It seemed kind of extreme (though you did roll well) for three wolves to cause so much damage to a mounted warrior in one round (perhaps a reflex save for half damage?).

I don't understand the mounted rules. Wouldn't Fintan's horse be lashing out at the wolves?

Also, not sure how Automatic bonus progression will work since I've never heard of it.

I know that I could be doing more in this combat but trying to keep my magic to a minimum, however, a suggestion...

Padraic is it possible for your Hawk at least distract one of the beasts while the others deal with the rest? Not saying it should but just wondering if it's possible without digging through the rules.
