Folks, should we give serious consideration to a tactical retreat? Or at the very least think about an exit strategy before we lose Manny and Seram, which at the moment seems quite a high possibility.

"This is true evil. I fear we are not as well prepared for this battle as we need to be. Let us at least lure them away from that abomination of an altar."

Each character recovers hp if they start their individual turn in the zone if I remember correctly. The key is start. They don't gain a benefit by moving into it on their turn. Each person who starts his turn in the zone should be healing 6 hp. It has nothing to do with any other character's turn.

Yes and Grafire is up first if I remember rightly so he gets the healing and although immobilised, wait a minute would that also mean he can't talk? Sorry trying to think of a way to help but all bar It and Manny (I think) are immobilised

AH! I see! The first part of the post was the to-hit against Manny, NOT the damage! SO yes, If I understand correctly now, I am still at 18 HP and not immobilized. But I think it is only Me and IT.

Oh I think a tactical retreat ('Run Away!') Is always a good strategy! especially if you can make them think you're running and come after you, where you can turn it around on them when they don't expect it.

I highly agree with this way of thinking.

"It, your master is in danger. Help us to take him somewhere safer."

Blind though he is, Akahale realises that stopping It from attacking is a lot harder than starting him.

Immobilised means you can't leave your square, you can still talk, etc, it's just as if your feet are frozen in place.

And yet Grafire can then inspire... after healing of course and then we hope It can hold the line long enough for the rest of us to recover before being overwhelmed...

"Grafire inspire It, he's going to need all the help he can get for now..." Rowan mutters quickly to the dragonborn warlord.

"I wonder can you cast anything that might block their line of sight, well that is if you get the chance?" Rowan asks Manny.

So what would they say at this point? Jinkies... Eek or run away!?

You all DO know that the ever-infamous 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail' is now 'Spamalot! The Musical!' DOn't you?

Run away!,
RUn away!,
Run away from the stench in the trenches!
Run away!,
Run away!,
From these nasty old horrible Frenchies!
These frogs with thier terrible prattle,
are fighting a battle with cattle!
We're all full of fear so let's get out of here!
Run away run away run away!

Brother, I'm sure Manny will be delighted to accommodate your request concerning visibility and the lack thereof,... as soon as he 'catches his breath'. (Terribly rude you know, attacking an elderly gentleman like that!)

M Dragonborn Warlord / LVL 8

We all can still use a second wind which will give us a +2 to all defense until the start of our next turn. That should last us through the next turn of the fishes. Then we can retreat. It and Grafire can wait on second wind and pull up the rear on retreat to take damage.

Grafire starts his turn with 10hp, but gains an additional 6 in the healing cloud. Now I am at 16hp. So Grafire will use inspired word, minor action 1 healing surge17 + 2d6=12. Moves me to 45hp.

"RETREAT, RETREAT...It and I will cover, you guys get moving as soon as you can." Grafire, frozen in his square but filled with determination to help get his friends out alive, hopes that IT makes it back to the ranks in time.

As his standard action Grafire wants to Activate his light shield of protection - You and adjacent ally gain resist 10 to all damage until the end of my next turn. Adjacent Ally would be Seram. My AC is 33 and Seram's is 32.

Sorry for lack of updates - working yesterday and today.

The band of friends prepares for a tactical re-assessment of the situation.

We better move onto Block 1. Grafire has posted - and that's not how the 'Resist' keyword works. It does not add to your AC, it merely subtracts from the damage you take. E.g. if a fish-man caused 14 damage to you, you would only take 4 damage.

Block 1
Grafire
Seram Zal

Block 2
Fish-Man Warriors
Fish-Man Slayers
Althanis

Block 3
Akahale
It
Mystic Cultist

Block 4
Mandrake
Rowan

SERAM ZAL's turn.

M Dragonborn Warlord / LVL 8

Got it, that's why I like to post the description. :D

Sighing, Seram knows for now retreat is must.

Move east back into the hall.

Fabes I've been under the weather these past couple of days. And still am not feeling any better. If my turn comes up again or my input is needed would you mind DMing Seram. I apologize.

I'm also ill, so I understand. Will do.

RE-reading all of the mid-level toys that Manny has. Cloak of resistance +2 grants Resist 5 vs. Necrotic up at all times, and that and his Ghostphase robe grants resist vs all dmg for a turn each. Of course they are minor actions, not interrupts, so they wont do any good until he can act, but it gives him options for defense that I had forgotten I had!

The elderly wizard leans against the wall, bathed in the golden light from Rowan's spell. He mumbles something about, "But I don' wanna go to school today mom. All the kids make fun of me, and the teachers don't like me,.... I KNOW I'm the principal! I don't wanna go!"

F1 attacks It - 31 vs AC - 7 damage 2 poison
F2 attacks It - 27 vs AC - 13 damage 2 poison
F3 attacks It - 33 vs AC - 12 damage 2 poison
F4 attacks It - 27 vs AC - 10 damage 2 poison

Althanis teleports
Dagon's Maw
1 Dagon's Fang - 29 vs Fort against It - 17 psychic damage
2 Dagon's Fang - 27 vs Fort against It - 12 psychic damage

71 normal damage and 8 poison damage to It. It is currently on -3 HP

Like sharks in a feeding frenzy, the horrid fishmen converge on It and bring the warforged to the ground, where he lies like a broken toy.

Akhale's turn.

-3, technically, thanks to Resist 1 All, but that is unlikely to matter unless they start CDG'ing.

male Dragonborn Warlock 10 (Dark pact)

Who can he see to curse and splat?

I'm going to have you play a 'true line of sight' wargame some day :D. He can see all the baddies, remembering that you may only curse the nearest. Althanis has cover from all his mates. FM1 and FM2 have cover from the altar. Mystic Cultist has cover from FM1 and FM2.

male Dragonborn Warlock 10 (Dark pact)

Post monster ate my first attempt. A true line of sight game would result in homicide. You'd be burying me in the garden within 10 minutes.

With due apologies, there is exactly nothing Akahale can do to help It apart from try to splat a bad guy.

As his vision returns, Akahale is greeted by the unwelcome sight of It, prone and dripping oil among the fishmen while Althanis gloats. His fury roused, he curses the nearest foe (F1) and follows up with a mighty blast of eldritch horror.

Pausing only to note with satisfaction the acute psychic damage he has caused the fishman as tendrils of doom seep into every orifice, he retreats down the stairs and into the corridor, preparing to make a last stand.

Curse F1. Spiteful Glamor on F1
F1 (Will) Spiteful Glamor (1d20 11=29, 1d12 7=18, 1d8=5). 18 psychic, 5 normal, 23 in total.

You're immobilised until the end of the Mystic Cultist's turn and FM1 isn't at max hp so you should only use a d8 for damage.

male Dragonborn Warlock 10 (Dark pact)

Bum. Ignore the retreat. Thought he was on full hp or I'd have used Eldritch Blast. Never mind. New damage is not horrible either - 20 total. 15 psychic, 5 normal/

Damage from Spiteful Glamor
(1d8 7=15)

ACK! IT's Down! IT's Down! Medic! I mean,... MECHANIC! ;)

Waiting on the Mystic Cultist, then Manny's turn, correct?

IT falls, and Manny stands upright, seeming to grow taller as his fury rises. He speaks very softly, and yet somehow his breath seems to bring a palpable chill to the room.

"You broke my warforged. Prepare to die."

Death save for It from Pat as well. But Manny feel free to take your go.

Akhale's sends streams of psychic spite at the fish-man, who recoils in what can only be piscine pain.

The other cultist tries to burrow into Akahale's mind in retaliation but fails in the face of the dragonborn's mental defences. He retreats down the stairs.

The frozen friends feel they can now move.

Immobilisation ends on those it affected.

Minor action to sustain the consecrated ground, move action to move it diagonally three squares so its centre rests right behind It and employ the first of his healing words for this encounter on It allowing him to spend a healing surge and recover an additional 1d6+3hp

Rowan calls upon his faith as he sends forth the blessing of Bahamut to aid the fallen warforged hoping he's not too late.

1d20=1

Note that for a warforged, 20 is the only roll that matters (1-9 are treated as 10).

I rolled the die for expediency and got 5, so It is now prone and conscious with 27 HP, and used one surge.

The healing power of the Platinum Dragon washes over the warforged, sending his gears into motion and a light blinks back on in his eyes.

Grafire and Seram - I know Laz is sick so I'll run Seram.

Huh? Don't I need a 20 to wake up?

Ah, sorry, missed that.

M Dragonborn Warlord / LVL 8

At this point all I can think of to get us out is to grab IT and pull him to safety before the next round.

Grafire moves in 2 sqrs NW and hopes his shield will hold. He attempts to grab IT and drag him back into the corridor 3 sqr SE and 2 sqr E. Can I use a double move with the grab? Not sure if I have to use an action point here. Shield should be active for the OA's and turns off at the end of my turn.

Athletics check - 1d20+9=19

M Dragonborn Warlord / LVL 8

Seram should be in the hall. I assume a full move maybe a double.

Grafire - It is conscious once more (did you want to drag him anyway?). And Seram stayed where he was because he was immobilised last round. I know a lot has happened with lots of status effects and damage flying around.

Dangit! got all evangelistic and inspired, then post got eaten. ;P NOw I'm thinking maybe I'll just retreat, it would be smarter. But I was thinking of trying to lay them all out with a color Spray. I think I had most of them too,... ;P

Sorry, too tired to think, much less re-type all that. I'll post tomorrow afternoon. See ya.

M Dragonborn Warlord / LVL 8

Ok, so Seram should be fine he moves after me. I am thinking that I still want to drag IT out of the line of fire. before my shield goes kaput. If I don't IT most likely will have to with stand another onslaught, which could be disastrous.

M Dragonborn Warlord / LVL 8

"Come with me IT." Grafire tries in vein to pull IT out of harms way. "Nobody will be left behind."

We're waiting on Manny, but I fully appreciate the annoyance of the post monster. We'll give Rags a while longer.

Sorry, was busy all day. Thx for patience guys, re-typing now. Basic plan is to COlor SPray the Fishies to get at least some of them. That way if IT and Gra back away, there wont be so many AO's.

EDIT-was typing away, and realized that IT and Grafire will be in the blast if I use color spray, so question. DO you want me to Color spray them, and possibly stun most of them, and maybe you guys too? OR shall I stinking cloud them? No stun, but limits vision, so should limit AO's. And Grafire's resist power should absorb what little dmg i will do
to both of you either way. SO which shall it be? Color SPray is vs Will, and CLoud is vs Fort, which they will resist easier,...

Manny, you can Delay until after Grafire or after Seram. I suggest you do. You can't use Stinking Cloud. It's a Daily which you have already used.

M Dragonborn Warlord / LVL 8

My fortitude is 22 and my will is 20. Hopefully I will be able to withstand 2 OA's and then you can ready your attack to trigger as soon as we are out of the way and blast them to keep them from coming after us.

After seeing what those fishmen can do I seriously doubt either of those defences are going to be enough...

"Jeepers! they keep on coming!" Rowan mutters as the fight continues.

Fabes DM wrote:

Ah, right-o. I was under the impression that the 'milestone' we reached returned our dailies to us as well, sorry. Glad I asked. ;)

Okies, Manny delays until after Grafire pulls IT's can out of the fire,... hopefully. THEN I'll write this post that's been bugging in my brain for 2 days now! ;P

Ah-ha, checking Grab (p290 PHB) it turns out that It will not provoke OAs from the Fish-Men. Lucky It! Grafire does. You will have to spend an action point because you can't make 2 moves and take a standard action. I'll assume you do this.

Grafire heroically strides into the room, fending off attacks on his comrade from the fish-men.

OAs - FM1 33 vs AC against Grafire 11 damage and 2 poison damage - reduced to 1 point of normal damage. FM3 - 21 vs AC miss.

MAP to follow.

Manny, please post, for the love of Pelor!

Yes sir! Right away sir! :)

Mandrake pushes himself away from the wall, his anger rising from him in an almost visible aura, like a heat waver over a hot object. As Grafire strides boldly into the room to grab IT and drag the mechanical man to dubious safety, his warrior's ability shrugging off all bit the most hardy of blows rained upon him as he does so, the wizard takes advantage of the fish men's preoccupation to also stride forward into the room. This is not the stumbling walk of a doddering old man, but the firm, confident stride of mage in his prime and secure in his own power. The wizard Mandrake, fairly crackling with power as he may have been in his prime.

The wizard strides forward into the room until he reaches the altar. He then turns to the gathering of piscine people in the center of the room and raises his arms.

"Bro-thuhs!" He declares boldly in the carrying tones of a traveling evangelist.

"We are gathuhed heah to-nite to celebrate!"
"To celebrate your coming of age! Your discovery and acceptance of the truth!"
"For YOU have des-cov-uhred that you worship a false god!"
"That Dagon is nothing more than a second-rater! A slimy squid whose tentacles are bigger than his IQ! A Bloated, Pasty-Faced Codfish with delusions of godhood!"

Let us give thanks that you have seen the truth! And now you see the LIGHT
!"

And from his outstretched staff bursts forth a blast of rainbow light that washes over the group in the center of the room.

The mage's smile turns to a frown as he realizes that the mystic cultist was outside the blast, and that the squid-y leader is nowhere to be seen, protected by the wall to the other part of the room.

"Thank you SO much for your attention! Be sure to leave a donation in the offering plate so I can continue my ministries! Feel free to visit among yourselves, but I have another appointment, gotta go!" He cries hastily, all in one breath. He shimmers and turns translucent, and picks up the hem of his robe with his free hand.

"We'll get together and do lunch! Have your people call my people!" He calls over his shoulder to the mystic cultist as he turns to flee.

OK! Walk 3 squares W until just behind altar. Color spray on fishies. Blast 5 easily gets them all. Cultist is just outside of blast, and leader is protected by the wall he is behind. I rolled att/dmg for all fish. use as you will. If hit they take radiant dmg AND are stunned for one round.

1d20+11=19, 1d6+7=10, 1d20+11=28, 1d6+7=13, 1d20+11=29, 1d6+7=8, 1d20+11=28, 1d6+7=10

Afterwords, Manny uses his Robes daily power to turn 'Insubstantial' for one turn. (Takes only half dmg from any attack that does dmg) and gets ready to run!
