The Hand of Corruption: GM_Loki's Black Crusade

Game Master Lokio

You are a Heretic; a renegade turned against the oppressive Imperium of Man. The crumbling monolith mobilizes the might of its numberless armies, and you must stand against it. But can you realise your destiny before that power consumes you?

I've been wanting to play Black Crusade (the newest RPG for the Warhammer 40,000) for a while now, but can't find anyone corrupted enough by the forces of Chaos to want to try it out. Anyone interested? It'll be playing through the Hand of Corruption playing as mortals (i.e. no Chaos Space Marines).

I have never played in the Warhammer universe, but I have read about it. Such a game could be fun, if you don't mind that I'll be looking up everything on wikis to keep up.

Me! Me! Me!

I could be convinced :)

Well, before I go any further, everyone is aware that you will be playing to a greater or lesser degree bad guys in this game? You are Chaos followers, people who have a tendency to do some bad things. Don't go into this expecting to be heroic good guys. And while I'll try to keep the overall villainy to a level acceptable to the boards, there is a certain amount of expectancy that you will be doing some very bad things over the course of the game. This is not to say that just because you are disenfranchised with the Imperium and have turned to Chaos that you are a rampaging psychopathic bastard (though the two are not by any means mutually exclusive).

Me too, me too, me too!

Radavel, Mark and I are in a Rogue Trader PbP together and I think we all get along well there.

Um, just how evil are we talking here? Perhaps I should just give this a pass and wait for something else.

Mmhmm! For a long time I have dreamed to be able to play as a baddie... kick, kill, loot and run... oh, it was a hero of good guys! I likeee

Am thinking of making a Renegade or an Apostate.

DoctorBones - Chaos is essentially the dark shapeless things in the night that people fear above all else and flense the flesh from innocents with a complete lack of pity... we basically play fanatical servants of gods that make the Great Old Ones seem like schoolchildren who just aren't trying hard enough...

So yeah - can be pretty dark. But as GM_Loki says the squick can be moderated to suit the audience.

I'm pretty easy as to role - and we should probably figure out if we're going to have a BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! Khornite in our midst before one of us decides on the Psyker role...

Ah, I see. Thanks for the explanation Sweetman. I'm not so sure I want to spend money on a lot of books to play something like that, especially since I'd likely limit everyone else's enjoyment. I might follow the game, but please don't consider me for this group.

Well before you back out entirely, Dr.Bones, consider this. Yes, your characters are Heretics condemned for crimes against the God-Emperor. However, this is a completely Imperial perspective and assumes that you consider yourselves bound by the laws of the Master of Mankind. It is worth remembering that being a Heretic and being a soulless evil monster are often two very different things. You are Heretics only because they adhere to a different set of beliefs and principles than those set down by the Ecclesiarchy, Administratum and Adeptus Arbites. You could be an unjustly persecuted rebel struggling against the totalitarian behemoth of Imperium rule (a concept not too difficult to embrace considering the nature of the Imperium). After all, even evil men are often righteous in their own minds.

Chaos is not in and of itself evil in the strictest sense. Just like the Imperium are not your typical good guys by any stretch of the imagination. Chaos represents change in its purest form. It is actually the attitudes of men (and other sentient species) that has caused it to become what it is now. The Imperium is a rigid, totalitarian dictatorship that distracts its citizens from what is really going on in the galaxy by constant indoctrination by the Ecclesiarchy and a government system that adheres wholeheartedly in rigid conformity at the cost of its peoples' humanity. They use fear, intimidation, and paranoia of the dark things that lie just beyond to keep people in line. That and the very real fear of what they themselves will do to someone should that person step out of line.

All this was to let you know that you don't have to be quite so bad. Just don't go in expecting to be shining paragons of heroism (such things don't exist in 40k anyway). Plus I'd like to keep the game fun, so it won't get too bad. I'll take everyone's comfort levels into consideration.

Anyway, on a completely separate note, as I'm really only looking for mortal characters (I love me some CSM's, and they are my table-top battles army, they just have too much trouble blending in to work right in my mind), your options for archetypes are limited indeed. Due to this, let's keep the number of players low to avoid too much overlap. But, as your talent and skill options are based more on your Chaos alignment than your archetype, choosing the same archetype isn't really a problem. Any of the mortal options are fine and up for grabs, regardless of alignment. I don't mind if there's a little (emphasis on a little) inter-party conflict. It's practically written into the game. Bad guys don't often play well with others...

DoctorBones playing or not it would seem there's enough people to warrant me starting this. Everyone up for me closing recruitment and opening the Discussion page?

hm... I would say yes but there is always people who would like to play. We are 4-5 so far so it´s ok at least for me

If you're happy to take me, then I'm not going to say no :)

Me me me! I've been trying to get a game going for almost a week. I have a psyker in mind, Slaanesh/Tzeentch (Unaligned)

Pride: Beauty
Disgrace: Wrath
Motivation: Dominion

Well then, Dr.Bones doesn't want in, and that makes five. Anymore and I'm going to have to start turning people down, and I hate turning down people who want to play. So, without further ado, let's go raise some hell.

Discussion page is live.

Is this recruitment over? Did I miss it??

Sadly yes. You're always welcome to follow the game, however, and should any spots open up, you'd be more than welcome in. Alternatively, I might start up a second game if there's enough interest.

Dark Archive

I actually just started following this and a few of the other WH40k games going on right now. It's made me really want to give a WH40k PbP a try, so if you decide to go with a second game, consider me interested.

I'll also keep my eyes open for any other WH40k games to pop up.

Here is the link to the recruitment for B-Team.
