Oh. My. God.
I got nothing...
That's not entirely correct. I have this mental image that the 'Were-rats' Carmina has conjured are actually more like Disney-fied cartoons of Were-rats than actual Were-rats.
Yes, I have seen the picture they have of Ayala in the AP as a matter of fact, why do you ask?..
I'm a bit curious Carmina, dropping into Meta-gaming here for a moment, as Chaotic Neutral, she wouldn't have a moral objection to their execution. So what is her objection?
I do not mean to imply that her intent is wrong,
possibly her implementation...
but not her intent.

Carmina Scarnetti |

Well, it has to be remembered that Carmina is Chaotic enough that she sees no difference in a lawful execution and unlawful murder. And she does have a moral objection to murder. In addition, since she took part in knocking out the wererats and delivering them to the watch, she would be complicit to what she regards as murder.
In addition, as a tiefling she finds the idea of people being killed for being "monsters" very scary, since she's herself significantly more monstruous than your average citizen. Today they come for the wererats, tomorrow for the tieflings?

Anafa, Yamyra |

I will say only that it is a bit frustrating to have every attempt on Yamyra's part to defuse the situation turned into an escalation by Carmina. At this point, I'm leaving it alone. We'll see what the Watchman does when Yamyra isn't trying to keep things from boiling over...

![]() |

I have enjoyed this bit of RPing between Yamyra and Carmina. IMO I think Carmina's view is a valid one, though as you have seen, the Watch holds a different view. Still, I am no fan of splitting up the party for extended period of time, so I will say the officer had already left out of earshot. I really don't want a three-way split, he he.

Anafa, Yamyra |

At no point, even in my bad rant, did I say that Carmina was wrong... I just said that she was acting towards the watchman the same way others had acted towards her.
Let me see if I can remember what I originally posted...
'At that moment Yamyra slaps Carmina on the cheek! "Now just wait one moment Missy! You don't like him & that's fine. You want justice to be served regarding the two of them & that's fine,
Laudable even. But there is no excuse for insulting him simply because you disagree with his decisions & don't like how he does things!"
"They needed the Were-rats to be delivered to them for the same reasons the city cannot risk a hidden underworld of Lycanthropes. The guard cannot deal with such supernatural threats. They are trained to deal with common problems; muggings, burglaries, even murders. They were barely able to capture a murderous, mad mage...
"Not because they were incompetent, they aren't, because He was capable of magic & they weren't!"
"You are treating them the same way you yourself have been treated in the past & I will not stand for it!"
I felt I was going too far, which was why I didn't post that. I also didn't disagree as much with her core arguments as I did with how she was making them. Which was why I had asked out of character earlier.
Which was a big part of the reason why I posted a while back about where I was going & where the rest of you guys ok with it.
I have been greatly enjoying our interactions myself & did not want to decrease anyone else's enjoyment, but I also was trying to get us 'back on track' so to speak.

Carmina Scarnetti |

Nah, that wouldn't have been too far. Actually, it would have been kind of funny. :P But yeah, we can say that Carmina's last lines were actually muttered to herself in Abyssal, so nobody understood anything.
Group hug?

Gared Naught |

I didn't mean to *not* post throughout all of that, but it caught both myself and my concept Gared off guard. I spent a lot of time considering his response, and in that time other people responded so I'm just going to leave it at suprised silence and somewhat haunted internal conflict over the arguments presented.
Excellent roleplaying guys.

Anafa, Yamyra |

No worries. It makes a kind of sense that a Dwarf & follower of Erastil wouldn't necessarily 'process' all the nuances rapidly enough to do more than stand there & go 'WTF'?
Case in point from my own life. I actually witnessed an assault & battery on a bus & did nothing because it happened so quickly that by the time I had fully processed what was happening, it was over & the assailant had already fled the scene. It seems like apples & oranges, but it isn't really. Yamyra has the social training (ranks in Diplomacy) to recognize this kind of social/interpersonal conflict & attempt to respond appropriately, Gared doesn't. Just as I don't have the kind of training to have effectively 'dealt' with the conflict on the bus.

Gared Naught |

*grumbles*
Finally had a post and it gets eaten by my phone! *sighs* Going to to try again with the more reliable computer soon.

Are we considering that we were able to load all the stuff we found in the Crow into the boat with us? The armor, the weapons & the relics specifically.
Next question, the 'second story harnesses', are those similar to our modern-day climbing harnesses? & if so, can they be cinched down to be usable by small-sized individuals? If the answers to both of those questions are yes, than I would say we want to keep those, possibly even make them standard gear...

![]() |

I assumed you would take all of the magical gear and items you can carry with you. For ease of sake, I will assume you can grab all of it. As for the Second Story Harnesses, I would say yes they can be adjusted to fir a Small individual, however the weight does not change. Here are the details on them:
A second-story harness is a series of straps, trusses, and buckles that can be worn over clothing or armor. A second-story harness allows the wearer to, as a move action, secure herself in place on a vertical surface so that both her hands are free. The wearer can remain in this position without needing to make additional Climb checks, and does not lose her Dexterity bonus to AC as long as she remains anchored. As long as the wearer is anchored in this way, she cannot move and gains a +5 circumstance bonus on Climb checks made to avoid falling whenever she takes damage. The wearer can release herself to start moving again as a move action. A second-story harness costs 55 gp and weighs 3 pounds.

I say we keep the healing potions in case those with ranks in UMD are knocked into negatives. Also, I think that Carmina took the crossbow? I've added it into my sheet, but it might be that I forgot to tell you... Anyway, it is fine if I keep it?
Assuming that it is fine and we keep both the potions and the harnesses...
- 3 Garnets = 150gp
- Mwk Silver dagger = 161gp
- Mwk Dagger = 151
- 6 Darts = 1 gp 5sp
- Amethyst = 250gp
- 4 Tanglefoot bags = 100gp
- 3 Smokesticks = 30gp
- 3 Studded leather armours = 37gp 5sp
- 3 Hand crossbows = 150gp
- 30 hand crossbow bolts = 1gp 5sp
- 3 Short swords = 15gp
- 4 Climber's kits = 160gp
- 3 Grappling hooks = 1gp 5 sp
- 3 Hooded lanterns = 10gp 5sp
- 3 Thieve's tools = 45gp
- Thassilonian brass platter = 100gp
- Pottery basin = 250gp
- Mwk studded leather = 87gp 5sp
- +1 bladed sarf = 1006gp
- Mwk Composite shortbow (assuming +1 strenght bonus) = 225gp
- 19 arrows = Just give them to Gared, I'm not starting to count fractional copper pieces.
- Mwk Thieve's tools = 50gp
- Old stuff = 900gp
- Random coins = 152gp 5sp
...We get a total of 4035gp and 5sp! Unless Horven takes it all and flees from the city, it'll be 807gp and 1sp for everyone.

Carmina: This sounds good. Keep in mind it will take a day or two for the Scribe who works with Sheila to arrange the selling of the equipment and actually give you your money. If anyone else wants to claim any items from the list, just post them here and deduct the money from your share.
Once everyone gives the OK, I will post the start of the next day :)

Anafa, Yamyra |

I would like us to save the gems, the climbing kits, the Smokesticks, the Tanglefoot Bags & the Harnesses. If Horven already has Masterwork thieves tools, then yes, let's sell those as well. I have no objections to Carmina keeping the crossbow, I suppose I should probably equip myself with one as well...

Gared Naught |

I think the idea of being able to us a harness to secure Gared while climbing and then proceed to fire arrows at our foes sounds amazing, so I'd love one. I'm also pretty sure I've put two of the tanglefoot bags in my inventory already. Everything else sounds good to me!

Between getting the Society Primer in this month's subscriptions & subsequently picking up the Field Guide, I find my interest in increasing the influence of the Society on our game also increasing.
Which is a bit surprising to me considering that was one of my initial dislikes of this AP.
Funny old world in'n'it?
But that brings me to my query. How much in-game Pathfinder Society is everyone else willing/able/interested in bringing into the game? Obviously, the ultimate limit is what DM Eric is willing to allow, but what are the rest of you interested in?

Gared Naught |

I honestly don't know enough about the pathfinder society to have an opinion on it's involvement with the campaign, so I'll leave that up to you folk! I'm happy as long as we're playing.

Horven Graveltoes |

We discussed this before moving from Hangman's Noose to Shattered Star. DM Eric didn't really seem keen in dragging in Society stuff. I don't know if that's changed or if subsequent books make the Society material more prevalent. I wouldn't mind it, if it doesn't ruin the experience.

![]() |

Hmmmm, I don't remember objecting to the Society elements prior to switching to the Shattered Star. But then again it has been a while...In any event, you are part of the Pathfinder Society so if you want some gear or other crunch from one of the Supplements, you can get it subject to my approval.
BTW, once you complete the mission you will be receiving Fame and Prestige for that accomplishment.

Anafa, Yamyra |

Well, my rp interest is primarily in the greater information regarding the three branches of the Pathfinders, the Scrolls (with whom Yamyra feels the closest affinity), the Spells & the Swords. Reading more closely into the internal/external factions, I suspect she would feel closest to the Silver Crusade, for all that she wouldn't necessarily be thrilled with the name (but again, I believe that the idea of putting the Society's resources to the cause of Good would appeal to her, particularly given the conversations she & Venture-Captain Heidmarch have had).
Mechanically, these things interest me.
prerequisites: Int or Wis 13 (See Special), ability to spontaneously cast 2nd-level spells.
Benefit: When you regain spell slots at the start of the day, you may opt to prepare one spell that you don't know in place of a daily spell slot 1 level higher than the prepared spell's level. To do so, you must have access to the selected spell on a scroll or in a spellbook, and the spell must be on your spell list. This process takes 10 minutes per spell level of the selected spell. You can cast the selected spell a single time, expending the spell slot as though it were a known spell being cast by you. Preparing a spell in this manner expends a scroll but not a spellbook. A spell prepared in this way is considered its actual level rather than the level of the spell slot expended. You can apply metamagic feats to the spell as normal, as long as the spell's actual level plus the increases from metamagic feats is 1 level lower than the highest-level spell you can cast.
Special: If you spontaneously cast Arcane Spells, you must have an Intelligence score of at least 13 to take this feat. If you Spontaneously cast Divine Spells, you must have a Wisdom score of at least 13 to take this feat. If you have both Arcane & Divine spellcasting classes, you can use this feat to prepare a spell using a given class's spell slot as long as you meet the associated ability score prerequisite.
Heidmarch Manor
Venture-Captains: Sheila & Sir Canayven Heidmarch
Heidmarch manor is in fact a large estate that includes the Heidmarchs' private home. As the first & only lodge in Varisia, Heidmarch Manor hosts expeditions bound for all parts of that country and it's neighbors. The Heidmarchs once funded the lodge's operations themselves, but recent events in Varisia have attracted the Decemvirate's attention and funding.
Bonus: You can borrow equipment as you set out on your mission.
Choose one of the following: 50 feet of silk rope, a hooded lantern with 2 pints of oil, a flask of acid, 3 pieces of silvered or cold iron ammunition, or a pouch of 10 gp for bribes or tolls. You may use the item during the expedition, but are expected to return what you can afterward.
Lookout(4PP) Pathfinder Society Primer, pg. 28
A Pathfinder is at her most vulnerable when asleep, and having a designated guard allows everyone to rest safely. While you rest, a lookout keeps watch. A lookout's bonus on Perception checks is equal to your character level. The lookout immediately wakes you up (as if he had spent a standard action to do so) upon spotting danger.
Memberships
Temple(4PP): Pathfinder Society Field Guide, pg. 62
Regardless of your class, you are an active member of your local temple or place of worship. Your commitment to seeing your faith prosper and grow has ingratiated you with the local clergy, and you may even hold a spot among them when not out adventuring.
Once per game session, if you have access to an operating temple of your faith, you can have a cleric cast either cure moderate wounds or lesser restoration on yourself or one of your allies, free of charge. You must visit the temple to receive this attention.
Beacon of Good (Fame 5, 2PP) Pathfinder Society Field Guide, pg. 22
The Silver Crusade gives you a shining wayfinder (see page 55) emblazoned with the emblem of a silver dragon.
Shining Wayfinder Pathfinder Society Field Guide, pg. 55
Aura faint divination; CL 3rd
Slot none; Price 2,000 gp; Weight 1lb.
Description:
A shining wayfinder is a polished silver compass favored by members of the Silver Crusade. In addition to the usual functions of a wayfinder (including the ability to create light), a shining wayfinder can be used to cast detect evil-when so used, its needled points not to the north but rather to the nearest source of evil within 60 feet. Once per day, a shining wayfinder can be used to cast protection from evil upon the wayfinder's bearer. A shining wayfinder functions only for a creature that is good-aligned. When held by an evil creature, the shining wayfinder's needle spins in a frantic circle. When held by any creature that is both non-good and non-evil, the needle simply hangs limply, not pointing to anything at all (not even to true north).
Construction
requirements Craft Wondrous Item, detect evil, light, protection from evil; Cost 1,000 gp
edit: I just realized that the present unassigned monetary loot divides precisely by five. We would each get exactly 669 gp & 1 sp.

Twenty posts in less than 24 hours huh? I was afraid we didn't go on a hiatus after all since I haven't checked since last week for a minute there!
