"Well they certainly stand out don't they? Shall we say hello?" Duncan says with a grin. He then starts walking in their direction, strapping his shield to his arm. He calls out to them "Greetings gentlefolk!"

If they looked armed and ready for eminent violence, Duncan will draw his sword, assume they are Anarchy, and ask the leader of them what their goal here is. If not he will not draw his sword and instead will attempt to distract them by asking directions to the nearest tavern, and offer to buy them all a round if they show him.

"Maybe it was destiny that I not go inside. This has so much more potential for glory." Wyaph follows Duncan towards the group.

No weapons out, but he subtly trying to position himself to be able to charge into - or through - as many as possible.

Zethaya wrote:
"Looks like we're about to have company, let's make this quick, or things might get ugly.", as Zethaya's disguise dissolves, she begins knocking on the wall, counting to five, one step with each knock, and then closes out with a low whistle.

Aerin was about to pull open the tall cabinet when he heard Zethaya knocking on the wall. Head cocked with curiosity, he watched her for a moment before whispering conspiratorially, "Should we try this?" and pointing to the large cabinet. Rather than attempt to open it, however, he followed the warlock's lead and rapped gently on the front. "Hello? Is there a Mr. Lifegiver here? We have a book or your that a fellow by the name of Jysson asked us to bring to you."

The genasi paused, listening for any answer or noise from within.

Outside:

Duncan starts approaching the group of folk headed towards the Council of Order's building. They looked armed and ready, and Duncan draws his sword.

The leader, a lithe elven woman with magic crackling in her eyes and hands, says, Don't let them distract us. Stop them, kill them, I don't care. We have a mission to accomplish. The leader looks dangerous. Extremely so.

One of the women in the group, armed with a short sword and a hand crossbow and matching five others in the group, responds to their leader Yes, Jazrene. You four, she says, indicating two women and two men, Go with her. The rest of you, on me.

Jazrene heads towards the building with two thugs and two spies behind her. The remaining four four thugs and four spies stay behind to face all of you.

Inside:
Zethaya and Aerin give the secret knock and whistle.

Note: even though on the map Zethaya is outside of the room, you're both actually inside. I just could fit all the tokens on the map

A moment later, an invisible door appears right out of one of the cabinets. The simple wooden door opens, revealing a cautious, uncomely half-elven face that peers out at you.

Yes? Who is - Heiron gives an audible gasp. By the Spire! Who are you? Before you can answer, he starts to pull back into the doorway, closing the door as he does so.

But then Aerin mentions the book and Heiron stops. The Book, you say? Where is it? Why do you have it?

It is not accurate. The leader is next to Zethaya. I placed Soolam where he is to represent him being in the rafters on the outside of the building. That accounts for both him being in the rafters and being able to see what's going on outside.

Heiron sighs, Well. At least I'm not going at it alone. Ok, I'll help. He begins to step out of his extra dimensional space.

The spies (female tokens) start to move, two headed into the building, two charging Duncan, one charging Zan, and one facing off against Wyaph.

The two spies that attacked Duncan swing with their short swords. Only the second hits, but deals extra damage thanks to them flanking. Duncan, take 5 piercing damage.

The spy that charged zen also attacks twice with her short sword. Zan, take 5 piercing damage.

A final spy moved to attack the Bauriar, striking with a solid hit. Wyaph, take 5 piercing damage

Wyaph backs up to ready for a charge, granting a spy an opportunity attack, but he's too quick for her. He than charges right into the group, attacking three different opponents at once! He misses the charge, but lands a hit with both axes!

Soolam's chosen target is no longer available. I'm assuming you target a random bad guy, but if you want to change your action, let me know. He fires his crossbow at one of the spies attacking Duncan, and lands a solid hit. The bolt sticks right into her shoulder.

Before the spy even has a chance to react, Duncan's blade finds its home in her side, and she slides off the blade onto the ground, dead.

The thugs start moving toward their targets. Two head into the building. One goes after Zan, one after Duncan, and there are two already on Wyaph.

The two on wyaph swing their maces, gaining advantage because they have friends nearby (special thug ability). Each Thug lands two solid hits, for a total of 13 bludgeoning damage.

The thug on Duncan has his mace deflected by Duncan's armor!

Heiron steps out of the extra dimensional space and walks out into the hallway to see what's going on outside, only to see Jazrene! You, he says with menace in his voice. She instantly turns into a pile of dust, with nothing left but a pair of bracers and a short sword. Holy crap, I didn't think that would work.

The bard strode slowly down the hall towards the foes pouring in, half-singing over his shoulder, “Well done Zethaya! The tornado in you whirls with fangs and claws!” Bardic inspiration to Zethaya

As the Council of Anarchy piled up in front of him, Aerin released a booming, thunderous blast in their direction.

If I understand the 5e rules correctly, Aerin can you a bonus action to use Bardic Inspiration, giving Zeth a single bonus 1d6 anytime in the next 10 minutes. He then proceeds slowly north up the corridor, with the intent of lining up as many foes as he can before casting thunderwave, hoping to catch three of them. I don’t know, is delaying your action (i.e., voluntarily moving down the initiative count) a thing in 5e? If so, that is what he is trying to do, holding until the council people come towards them, but casting before they can attack him.

Also, how high are the ceilings here and what weapons can Aerin see on his opponents?

There is no delay action in 5e. You either do something on your turn, or wait for the next round.

Round 2

Jazrene (dead)
Aerin 22
Spy 21 (1 of 6 dead)
Wyaph 19
Soolam 15
Duncan 11
Zan 10
Zethaya 8
Thug 8 (1 of 6 dead)
Heiron 5
Jysson 5

Aerin moves to cast Thunderwave, dealing 6 thunder damage to two spies and one thug. I moved you into position to hit the maximum number of opponents

The spies attack back. The one remaining on Duncan can't penetrate his armor.

The spy attacking Zan swings back, and Zan deftly dodges one, but it unable to find the perfect spot to be in the moment to dodge the other. Zan takes 14 piercing damage, knocking her out!

Wyaph's spy also lands a single solid hit, dealing 10 piercing damage.

The spies in the Council of Order building both attack Aerin. A short sword slices at his arm, dealing 6 piercing damage (no sneak attack, as the spy doesn't have an ally threatening you). The other spy fires her hand crossbow (Firing past an ally, half cover, +2 AC) and despite allies being in the way, she lands a solid hit. The bolt grazes Aerin's right leg, dealing 3 piercing damage.

Wyaph attacks the thug, barely landing a hit! 7 damage.

Soolam's bolt is true, and takes the thug down. (dead)

Duncan's sword also strikes hard on the thug next to him, dealing 8 damage.

Zan is unconscious (1st round of unconsciousness).

Zethaya's eldritch blast strikes true despite Aerin partially blocking the path, deals 10 damage to the spy! (Firing past an ally, half cover, +2 AC)

The thugs all attack.

Wyaph's thug attacks with advantage because he has an ally next to him! He swings his mace twice and hits twice! Wyaph takes 11 bludgeoning damage.

Thug #3 moves from Zan to Soolam, after seeing Soolam drop from the rafters and kill his friend. He swings his mace twice and lands one hit, dealing 7 bludgeoning damage!

Thug #4 on Duncan swings with advantage, due to his friend being nearby. He swings his mace and catches Duncan in the arm, and then follows up with a clang to the head (crit)! Duncan takes 17 damage! (total 11 bludgeoning damage after Heavy Armor Master damage reduction).

The last two thugs are in the Council of Order Building. They each fire their heavy crossbows (Zethaya and Aerin both count as behind half cover, +2 AC). Both shots land true. Aerin takes 8 piercing damage while Zethaya takes 5 piercing damage.

Heiron uses a 4th level spell slot to cast Magic Missile, hitting each of the injured anarchists in the Council of Order building twice.

Jysson continues to attack the spy who took down Zan. He hits, dealing 1 damage!

Anyone who has knows about the planes or who grew up on the planes:
Jysson is a petitioner. If a petitioner dies outside of their home plane, their spirit is gone forever.

Total damage for each player:
Aerin 16
Wyaph 21
Soolam 7
Duncan 11
Zan 14
Zethaya 5

Wyaph & Zan: You are at 0 HP. Make a d20 roll each round you're unconscious. If you roll 10+, mark one save. If you roll 9-, mark one fail. Three saves and you live. Three fails and you die. Nat 20 means you auto succeed and are awake at 1 HP. Nat 1 counts at two fails. *Any* healing (magic, healing kit, or medicine skill) brings you up to consciousness and heals you from 0. There are no negative hit points in this edition.

Ha! It appears you totally messed up! It looks like Aerin took 17 damage, not 16 as you claimed! Errr, wait...

Well, that merely increases the degree of difficulty of what will ultimately be our glorious victory.

Ten left from the Council of Anarchy and only four of us, all badly wounded? Ha! We laugh in the face of death (until we are dead, which might be quite soon).

Aerin had hoped to bottle up the Council thugs at the mouth of the corridor, but their barrage of crossbow bolts put an end to that idea. He retreated back down the hall as far as he could, turning only at the end to give the lead thug a tongue lashing, pointing out his (or her) many faults, in particular the total lack of anarchistic tendencies.

Retreat, then cast vicious mockery. Aerin is out of anything more potent.

vicious mockery damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1 if save failed, plus disadvantage. Bleh.

Fret not, for there is a deux ex machina built right into the adventure! Well, less deus and more machina. :)

I'll be making an update tonight.

A voice calls out amongst the battle, Cease your fighting! You are in violation of Regulation 13F8Q, subsection JD50! You are hereby -

The voice was cut off by another voice. S$%~! It's the Council of Anarchy! Get them!

Even as they call out, the giant 50' diameter mechanical gear which serves as the gate to the Plane of Mechanus (which is why this town is called a "Gate Town") starts to shimmer, signaling that the magical gate is starting to open.

Inside the building, Aerin casts vicious mockery and retreats back down the hallway. Unsure if it took effect, as the spy decided she was too injured to stay and started heading for the exit. The other spy followed suit? by the thugs seemed to be staying for the kill.

Outside, the spies disengaged their opponents (Duncan, you get an Opportunity attack, I'll use your attack roll) to start attacking the arriving guards. Duncan slices into the spy as she tried to get away for 8 damage.

Wyaph is unconscious.

Soolam slices into the thug he's fighting with an absolutely vicious hit, for 18 damage.

Zan is unconscious.

Zethaya is up.

Since I happen to have a bit of time, I'm going to continue the round on the outside while we're waiting for Zethaya to post her action.

Duncan stabs at the thug next to him, ripping into the man's arm. He takes 8 points of damage.

The Thugs also turn to face the guards, giving Soolam an Opportunity Attack (Duncan already used his reaction this turn).

Jysson, seeing Zan down, yells out, I could use some help over here! He tried to do what he can to help her, but being a cat, doesn't seem to be able to do anything.

Suddenly, the ground starts to rumble as the Gate becomes fully active. Modrons start pouring out of the gate. Tens of them. Hundreds of them.

The guards and the anarchists are so surprised that they stop fighting altogether.

Let's finish up this round and maybe next round. For this round, Zethaya still has a turn against the two thugs in the building. For next round, you have two of your number dying on the ground. If no one does anything, there's a chance they will die.
