I think a natural 1 is auto fail, so all the help will still leave Jory shivering in embarrassment. Oh, no way Jory wants the blanket back :=)

That being the case I would say we setup the wind breaks on either side of camp againt the lean-tos closes to the ends. Then setup lean-tos along the walls with a fire between each set of two. Goblins are most central.

Some info on cold effects :

From the Environmental Rules section of the linked page -

Temp 0-40F : Hourly check vs DC15 + 1 per prior check (ex. DC 15 hour 1, DC 16 hour 2, etc) or take 1d6 nonlethal and gain the fatigued condition.

Temp -20-0F : Check every 10 minutes (every hour if in cold weather gear) DC 15 +1 for each prior check. Failure is 1d6 nonlethal.

Temp -20 or lower : 1d6 lethal damage per minute (no save) + DC 15 + 1 per prior check or you take an additional 1d4 nonlethal.

The fatigued condition lasts until the damage is healed. You can't heal cold damage until you are out of the cold and warmed up.

Fatigued Can't run/charge, -2 Str and Dex. If you gain the fatigued condition again you go to exhausted.

Exhausted Penalties climb to -6 Str/Dex. Need an hour of rest to get back to Fatigued.

Gonna be a long night :(

Andre, if you can quote the correct part of the PRD or a discussion on the rules forum, I don't have a problem with it :)

It seems to me it's not exactly like a spell that does fire damage/cold damage. The cold makes it hard for you to breath, your muscles ache and that's why you're fatigued and take the (non-lethal) damage.

Use your search-fu my friend! :)

Silver Crusade

Male Aasimar Cleric 1 | AC 19 T 12 FF 17 | HP 6/8 | F +2 R +2 W +5 | Init + 2 Perc + 5 | CMB +2 CMD +14

Found the below:

The module The Witchwar Legacy, which takes place some extremely cold, states regarding the cold:

"See page 442 of the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook for further details. A simple endure elements spell will negate these dangers, as will any amount of cold resistance."

Note the word "any." The Witchwar Legacy, p. 6. Based on that, you can say RaW that "any" amount of cold resistance trumps environmental cold damage. Its not "core," but it is an official Paizo PF RPG book.

Okay, perfect. But to keep the feel in it, would you mind wearing your cold weather outfit? :p

I just wanted to take a moment to say that all goblins shall love me and despair.

My only regret is that I can't get stunt dice in Pathfinder. Also, I remembered a useful fact: we all get a +4 bonus to Intimidation against goblins for being larger than them.

In regards to Energy Resistance here's some info I found :

Even though I found it last this is probably the ringer so I'll put it first From James Jacobs

Thread on the topic

Interesting reference to the Horizon Walker PC in this one

Reign of Winter Players guide offers the following trait :
You rarely feel the cold, and you’ve always had a restless longing to travel north. You gain a +1 trait bonus on Fortitude saves, as well as cold resistance 2; this resistance does not stack with cold resistance gained from any other source.

Neither Resist Energy nor Protection from Energy directly address the issue. Resist Energy does state "Resist energy absorbs only damage. The subject could still suffer unfortunate side effects." A bit unclear on what they mean by this but I think it's more geared to combat spells that might have secondary effects.

So my take is you make take the saves and if failed roll damage. If it's 5 or less no damage and no fatigue. If it's 6 you take one damage and are fatigued until that damage is healed.

As a side note I also like the image of the Aasimar standing there in light robes looking around at everyone else wondering what they're all so concerned about. :)

In the guide it says you can use Diplomacy to shut them up, but I reckon the mere look of you would make them auto-pass their own friendliness test towards you..

So I found out something wonderful today:
The first time a character with levels in druid, ranger, or any other class that grants an animal companion gains an animal companion, the animal enters play knowing its maximum number of tricks as dictated by the animal companion's Intelligence and the character's effective druid level.
Source: Pathfinder Society FAQ

I've been doing things the hard way and teaching tricks to Aiko once by scenario (while wondering how first-level druids even manage without GM credit, with a companion who on their first scenario is a literal one-trick pony) and it turns out I didn't have to. This would allow me to have two more tricks than I have right now. Rickmeister, would you mind if set them right away, or would you rather I wait 'til this scenario is over?

The map // Initiative >> Theor & Thaurux > Yeti > Rest

Go ahead and teach them Yukie. Maybe make up some in-game jibber jabber about it, like a Eureka moment?

Lantern Lodge

All right! I'll think about it. If I can't think of anything, the tricks will just pop up, I guess. (we have always been at war with Eastasia)

For my last post, I actually looked up the prices for live chicken. You're very lucky I didn't have Yukie crazy enough to buy some.

Yukie you're smart enough for this: buy regular old meat, and TELL them it's chicken ;)

I think we probably just need to pick a spokesperson and a strategy.

To that end my thought is that Yukie is our best diplomat so she can do most of the talking. As far as strategy we've already mentioned who we are and what we want so I think we just need to ask the big guys something to the effect of "Hello Rimetusk, we need to cross the river, what is the cost for your services.". (I'm assuming he actually ferries us across).

In the end the ferry is there to get people across so we're not asking anything too odd. If he doesn't want to help well then it gets more interesting but we'll go from there.

Apologies, I've been busy in the last two weeks or so, and since Yukie has been playing party face a lot, I think that contributes to the slowdown. I'll try to check the thread a bit more often, even when I can't contribute paragraphs-long posts.

Sorry, I was waiting on our party face to speak first. That usually clues me in on what to say for an Aid Another roll.

I'm kind of a 'backup' party face. While Tiasar is generally an intelligent person, sometimes he puts his foot in his mouth

LOL. yeah I think it will pick up now that we are moving again

The map // Initiative >> Theor & Thaurux > Yeti > Rest

All right. Let's make a 'houserule'. If you checked, and don't want to say or do anything (important), simply describe what your character is doing. People will notice that everyone is e.g. waiting for Yukie to step forward.

e.g. "Halorn scrapes his throat, looking at Tiasar and Yukie to step forward."
"Jory eyes them both, and nudges slightly with his eyes in the direction".

Andre stares. "Who is going to do the talking? Please not me?"

Grand Lodge

Male Dwarf Cavalier 1 || AC 18 - Tch 12 - FF 16 || HP 12/12 || Fort/Refl/Will +4/+2/+0 (+5 vs. spells/sla) || CMD 17 || Perception +4

That makes sense. I think situations like that can be problematic in PbP as you don't know if everyone is just waiting or just hasn't been able to post :)

Somehow it actually did! My philosophy is that since Aid Another can't make things worse (except maybe by GM fiat), it's never a bad idea to chip in, even if your character can't do much.

Now we've got a total of 30, though, which I think should be pleeenty enough. :)

Yukie I think it would be some roleplay backed by either Diplomacy or Intimidate (depending on your preferred method) to negotiate the cost. The troll seems to like you well enough I'd say give it a go.

The Varisian sandwich was Jory mistaking an offer while traveling through the rowdier part of the big city. I will attach the original inspiration from his last mission:

As a monk isolated from many things meditating and honing his archery skills, the large city was quite exciting. At many of the exciting sights Jory could just stare with an open-mouth at the many large crowds and exciting people.

The trip down the street lit with the flashy red lights was the most exciting. Jory in particular was intimidated after meeting some of the more noble ladies in that part of the city. They were dressed in regal outfits, though curiously many of them left parts of their body uncovered. Although Jory didn't take up any of them on an offer to 'go round the world' or partake in a 'Varisian sandwich', when he knows his more wordly companions better, he can ask them about the opportunities he missed. The Varisian sandwich sounded interesting, and he liked spicy food as much as the next dwarf, but he didn't want to spoil his appetite before the manor dinner.

Upon returning to the manor, Jory made a note to see if a Varisian sandwich was something the staff at Heidmarch Manor could provide.

-Since that event, Jory has a fascination with Varisian spiced meats on bread. What he thinks is a Varisian sandwich.

Yup, that was awesome. Especially when Jory asked the Venture Captain of Heidmarc if the staff had one of those, whereas she turned red for a brief instance...

Hahaha, this is great. This sandwich will go down in legend.

I followed Horatius' suggestion, and I hope no one feels like I just stepped on their toes there. This scene has been going for nearly a week now, and I guess the board medium may not be best for it (since it's hard to do quick back-and-forth, like in "proper" haggling).

The Exchange

Ya i'm going for the whole starting at a lower offer, makes our real offer look a lot better

Silver Crusade

Male Human Paladin 2 | AC 14 T 11 FF 13 | HP 20/20 | F +7 R +3 W +6 | Init +1, Perc +1 | Smite Evil 1/1 | LoH 3/3

That was fine Yukie, from my standpoint you and Andre are our best "face" characters so feel free to run with this. Horatius will throw in comments if something bothers him. :)

It will be interesting to see how this goes down. I've always found that while Pathfinder lays out costs pretty well the actual cost for things can vary wildly in different runs/modules. Basically at four gold we just offered this troll the equivalent of two weeks salary for a skilled hireling. Ship passage is listed at 1sp/mile and we just want to get across a river. So in theory we were being pretty generous but then there's the whole "adventurer" slant that throws the monetary system out of whack.
