I was going to go all out and attack against its flatfooted AC... but decided that a momentary speed bump to prevent it using its breathweapon on the entire party or being the only one in melee was a better plan ;)

Re: using Action Points to improve a roll. I was going off "When you spend 1 action point to improve a d20 roll, you add the result of a 1d6 to your d20 roll (including attack rolls, saves, checks, or any other roll of a d20) to help you meet or exceed the target number. You can declare the use of 1 action point to alter a d20 roll after the roll is made, but only before the GM reveals the result of that roll. You can’t use an action point to alter the result of a d20 roll when you are taking 10 or taking 20."
I'm fine using it however you want; that was my off the cuff "I don't want to blow an action point if I roll a 5 or a 15" :)

TheBobJones_GM |

No you are totally right mechanically. It just felt cheesy for me to apply it. :)

TheBobJones_GM |

Lots to resolve in Round 3 and my Interent is out. Too much for a phone post. Hopefully I can sneak it in before my daughter's dance practice this evening. If not will be ready by tomorrow morning.

Arimar |

No troubles mate. Hopefully RoW will have the honor a Jorvik phone post instead. ;-)

Malgrim Stoneseer |

Sorry for slowing things down so much. Yeah, definitely a tactical play that would have taken seconds to resolve IRL. I still stand by not allowing half the party to get breathed on though ;)

TheBobJones_GM |

No one is going to argue getting some buffs in is a bad idea.
Internet back online - catch you all tomorrow.

TheBobJones_GM |

Benaiah and Caerador should have (and I'm assuming would have) come out of initiative order before the sea drake (ie. immediately after Malgrim dropped the wall and still in Round 3). They should still have actions after Malgrim, but before the sea drake, and in Round 4.
That is incorrect. We have a situation where 3 characters are holding their actions using a variety of game mechanics. What I know that you don't is that the Sea Drake was using a Readied Action.
If the triggered action is part of another character's activities, you interrupt the other character.
So when Malgrim drops the wall, the sea drake interrupts his action, and fires off its Ball Lighting Breath. (which is a Standard Action)
Then Malgrim moves into the cavern.
Then Benaiah and Caerador come out of delay.
By choosing to delay, you take no action and then act normally on whatever initiative count you decide to act.
So by definition a Delayed Action does not interrupt another character's actions, only a Readied Action.
Even if Benaiah and Caerador Readied instead of Delayed, it would make no difference because we essentially would have 3 characters that get to act at the same time. I would have used Initiative results a a tie breaker, and the drake would go before either. The only difference is that now Benaiah and Caerador get a full round to act (which they did) instead of a Standard Action. Which is why I didn't push for either Delaying or Readying as both resulted in essentially the same situation, except Benaiah by using a full round action was able to both move and hit the drake, pretty severely I might add.
Rules lawyering aside, cinematically and logically how the events transpired is how I would have envisioned it anyway.
Sorry for reanimating and then beating the proverbial dead horse.
You are a Necromancer. It is what you do.

TheBobJones_GM |

If you didn't get my email - Comcast can go f@#@ themselves. Internet spotty all day. Logging off.

Arimar |

Ah, the classic readied action. Missed that... and thanks for the explanation! :-)

TheBobJones_GM |

Internet issues solved. Still have to find a chunk of time to install my new router.
Daughter's Dance Recital part duex today/drinking heavily tonight. Please ignore all post I make this afternoon until I sober up sometime tomorrow. Unless I make a pass at one of your moms. That is the real me. Right Arimar ;)

Arimar |

Got my daughters' dance recital today (thankfully they are part of the same performance, so I get a 2 for 1!).
Hope it went well.
Oh, and you're welcome to my mum, but you have to go all the way to Australia to get her.

Arimar |

From Aaron / Caerador:
"I am up to my eyeballs in work today and I wont be able to post until either late tonight or tomorrow morning."
With apologies.

TheBobJones_GM |

Thanks for the update. Surprised Benaiah squeezed one in after his weekend.

Ha! I'm hobbling around like an old man... some a moment to post while my daughter was at a volleyball camp this morning.
Going back to coloring with her now :)

Really - 36 hours and you all have yet to heal up?
I have noticed a lack of attention lately. I am hoping that it is just a result of my spotty posting a few weeks back and not indicative of waning interest. I have a few surprises yet and I would hate to close up shop before we got to the good parts.

![]() |

So I am going to need some feedback from the GM on this little tidbit.
When Benaiah is all buffed out, quite a few of his important stats change.
Pretty much all of them.
Currently he has:
- shield
- mutagen
- longarm
- bull's strength
- phantom blood
- enlarge person
This makes his HP 59/60, Intelligence is 12, AC is 22, CMB is +16, CMD is 24, Fort save is +8, Reflex +3, Will +5, And a Intimidate bonus of (!!) +23.
SHould I change my tag line for all of this? I'm not sure the bracket trick works (run out of characters allowed)
What will get interesting is when I have different combinations of the buffs. This is definitely a burden that should rest on me, making sure the numbers are up to date, but I just wanted to mention it to see if there was a way TheBobJones_GM wants to see it.
I could put the most common combinations in spoiler form in my profile. I could update my tag line every time I have the buffs active, which would require some extra diligence by me to make sure its correct at all times.
Just thought I would throw it out there and see what you thought.
RE: Lack of attention - I'm going with (guessing) busy weekend that hasn't settled down yet. I don't think this group has really hit a rhythm yet with posting. I know I am pumped to see what you have in store for us.

![]() |

Shoot.
Just realized that all those stats assume I am raging.
Oi.
Non raging version - HP 49/50, Intelligence is 12, AC is 24, CMB is +14, CMD is 24, Fort save is +6, Reflex +3, Will +3, And a Intimidate bonus of (!!) +21.

Arimar |

I've been waiting for Malgrim and Caerador to post something about their characters (I know Malgrim requested infernal healing ooc). I don't want it to turn into the Arimar and Benaiah show. I also try not to post more than twice between GM posts (because I know as a GM how hard it can get to catch up when I fall behind).
I'm certainly happy to pick up the posting if you like, but I don't want my thread-blasting to turn off the other players.
As for interest, still very much into it! Want to see where things are going, and to have our party gel a bit more as we go forwards.

TheBobJones_GM |

Though one on the stat modifiers. The brackets are temporary modifiers that would supersede the normal tag line. I.e.
AC 22 [24] means I would use 24 instead.
But you do seem to have a multitude of situational modifiers. It might warrant an alternate alias ala Raging Xull. It really boils down to how many buffs you can consistently get/use. It seems with Rage a free action you would do that every time. Probably Mutagen to. And then you can bracket whatever extract you consume. Make sense?
Regarding posting: I hope so. If there is something I am doing wrong or could be doing better would be happy to adapt.

TheBobJones_GM |

Thanks Arimar.
I would be remiss to claim not hitting our stride did not fall partially on my shoulders. The end of May beginning of June was challenging for me to keep up
Hopefully we can find that posting sweet spot as I thoroughly enjoy all your abilities to Role Play.

Malgrim Stoneseer |

I had posted, though I really didn't have much to add to the conversation. I honestly couldn't remember who had the Wand of Infernal Healing, though I would put "post combat healing" in the SoP if we have the resources available ;)

Malgrim Stoneseer |

When mind controlled, it's always good when your damage exceeds your attack roll, right? I'm not sure if I would be expected to use Action points.

TheBobJones_GM |

Just got an email. Caerador is taking a leave of absence. No worries though I have everything covered.
Will post later tonight.

TheBobJones_GM |

Sorry for the slow post, got tied up last night. So Caerador will be on hiatus at least until Arimar gets back. This takes the party down to 3 and with Malgrim dominated I found it best to end the combat. Feel free to tie Malgrim up or we can just say that with the destruction of the haunt, he is no longer dominated. Whatever angle you want to roleplay.
Things will slow down a bit story wise since I don't want to go too far with just the 3.
I have ideas on what to do next so worry not. :)

Arimar |

No problems at all for me. Caerador, mate, I hope things get easier for you soon!

Malgrim Stoneseer |

I'm good with however you want to rule the various combination of effects and lack of causes interact. I kind of left it open in my post ;)

TheBobJones_GM |

Ok, so minor rant. I pulled the picture of one of the new characters from an AP I got in the Humble Bundle. Went to find its portrait, and nothing. Urg. Hate the image but will have to do.
Hope all the dads had a nice day yesterday.

TheBobJones_GM |

I'd like to welcome the prodigal son back. If you haven't clicked on Keoki's profile yet you should. Welcome home!!

![]() |

Aww shucks. Thanks, dude :)

![]() |

Wooo!!! Welcome back Chris!
Totally love that you are using this character concept too. Soooo fits right in :)
This is one twisted group!

Arimar |

Hi boys. Posting from the nearest town here. No internet at our beach house and I'm lucky to get cell reception let alone data. I've got my threads open now so I'll try to compose a post in response and put it up as soon as I can. Sorry for the delay - and other than the poor internets, this part of Florida is awesome!
Also, welcome back Chris! So cool to have you back on this.

TheBobJones_GM |

OK, so with Arimar on no posting, we will take this slow until he comes back.

Arimar |

Good news! The neighbors have WiFi and they haven't bothered to secure the connection. I can get 1 bar on the deck outside, so I can post! Limited, but possible without needing to drive into town.
So, please don't slow down on my account. I'll post daily (or more often if I can).
Great intro posts, Chris! Can't wait to find out more about you... even if Arimar is currently ignoring Keoki.

If you don't follow Keoki's link back to the "Not-Named-Game" (see what I did there...) you are cheating yourself of an awesome hook that Lockwood dropped a long time ago.
Man I love doing that stuff. Well done Lockwood. Well done.

Malgrim Stoneseer |

Apologies for my unexpected absence this weekend; what was already a busy weekend wasn't improved by a massive storm that killed internet and downed a tree Saturday night that had to be removed on Sunday. If a tree falls into a neighbors yard, it definitely makes a sound! ;)
And now resuming our regularly scheduled RP.

TheBobJones_GM |

I will be offline until tomorrow evening. Might be able to sneak one in but unlikely. Have fun boys.

Malgrim Stoneseer |

I'll have a post up later, but I wanted to share with you guys how dumb I felt when writing a word doc for work and tried to mark a section bold and italics by including the [.b][.i] [./b][./i] tags... and it took me more than a second to realize what I'd done...

Arimar |

Yeah, sent an email using phpbb tags to my wife once. Tricky to explain... "you play how much PbP?" ;-)

![]() |

I love this.
You guys are the best.

TheBobJones |

I just want you all to know I love you all.
Sorry for the drunk post. Just want you all to know that was the most coherent message I was able to send all night.
Thank God cell phones weren't a thing when I was in college. Nothing like waking up to a string of b#$@@#!$ I sent throughout the night to say nothing of the pictures.
But I am back. Busy weekend with the Fourth on my end.

Malgrim Stoneseer |

I'm somewhat confused with the shift to Maginar, but I can roll with that if that's what the group decides.

TheBobJones |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Through the course of the adventure many NPCs will pull you in many different directions. You are supposed to be confused right now. What Mistress Lanvi heard made her switch plans. You don't as of yet know why. Always remember you are the main character so make any decision you want.
One of my favorite movie lines:
Admiral Chester W. Nimitz: So, sir, you would have us mobilize the entire fleet, at the cost of millions of dollars, based on this 'spine-tingling' feeling of yours?
Captain Thurman: No, sir. I understand my job is to gather and interpret material. Making difficult decisions based on incomplete information from my limited decoding ability is your job, sir.

Malgrim Stoneseer |

Apologies for my sudden disappearance: we had rather nasty storms last night and my internet died. Finally returned to the land of internet after three hours of tech support over the last two days!
I'll have more to contribute tomorrow :)
