Yeah, it was a very good encounter that showed me the massive benefits of utility spells! For as much as I was frustrated that I could not be very effective, I was definitely learning a lot and it was fun following the action. Well done!

No worries!
I was having fun pulling this history out of thin air anyways.
And just FYI - nothing about "Elven Curve Blade" implies "slender"
C'mon!!! Elven Curve Blade!!! That $*%( is funny!
:)
In unrelated news, I turn 14 next week!! (no I don't)

So, as someone that's done some improv before, I pretty much go with the "always say yes" mentality. However, Malgrim isn't really one to engage in brothels or boozing. I'm not sure if he'd keep up appearances and politely decline their services or not, but I'm kind of playing him as the ascetic holy-man without the "holy".
I do see him totally getting into misunderstandings and cultural differences, which could get hilarious though

I absolutely got that kind of vibe from your post, which was brilliantly hilarious.
This comment puts your post firmly in the camp of "He was honestly sincere" instead of "playful sarcasm"
Good stuff :)
Arimar |
Elven curve blade. Heh.
Anyway, Malgrim, don't let the 'say yes' thing ruin your character building. For all Arimar knows, you agreed to take the whore into your room for the sake of appearances and then simply talked for the rest of the night.
Also... gelatinous cube dissolved your clothes, Caerador? F~*~ing brilliant.
... and -1 to Steve profanity filtering his own cuss words.

+1

Baaaahahahahaha! I'm such a dork, I'm uncomfortable even typing the word out. When I say it my head, I say it with the bleep. It sounds funnier in my head like that.
That, among many others, is why I don't make a living making jokes. :)
Arimar |
All fine with me... so long as Chris Lambert doesn't jump on you for bypassing the profanity filter!
Caerador Grimualt |
I can't hear Red Sun Rising's Emotionless without imagining Arimar humming it while he makes zombies... It is the image that jumps in my head everytime I hear the song!
TheBobJones_GM |
Speaking of aliases, I cannot help but to think that Caerador's portrait would have made a better EMO Finarin than the one I picked.
Then again, we all don't have the drive like a certain someone.
Oh and Fist Bump right back at you.

Great song. Now I'll sing it in my head whenever I raise dead... sprinkling the silver around and crushing up the obsidian.
Speaking of aliases, I cannot help but to think that Caerador's portrait would have made a better EMO Finarin than the one I picked.
How weird is it that I thought that was the EMO Finarin portrait that you picked?

Ha! That was from the chase scene. Totally forgot to update that... :)

@The GM: I like the effort you put there with the crew, and the chance to explore Malgrim's personality. I'm kind of envisioning him as the grounding to the more outrageous personalities of the group ;)

I like the sound of that. I'll definitely use that in the future!
You know what would be cool? You should totally go with an earth-themed type character mechanically.
Grounding - Earth Themed...
(Kidding on the second part... I'm funny in my head)
Malgrim Stoneseer |
Oh, definitely. It was somewhat of a pun-intended ;)
(I'm a veritable pundora's box.)
Benaiah the Heretic |
I love it.
I don't doubt that there will be a punthora of opportunities for those.
At least, I'll cling to that hope...

Malgim I couldn't agree more with your analysis of Malgrim. It was pretty clear to me the first interactions with One-Eyed Dave who Malgrim is. My apologies if you think that the interactions with One-Eyed Dave have been because I do not like your character concept.
It is precisely because I love your character concept that I envisioned One-Eyed Dave being a total t+++ to Malgrim. See, from my point of view as a GM, the suffering, patient PC is the perfect foil to the bully, and the loud obnoxious ones Amriar & Benaiah should be the ones to get involved at Malgrim's behalf. You were just sooo good about the whole thing that I made The Row Row Row Your Boat Crew be the ones to break down the 4th wall. And stuff will come up later.
So the One-Eyed Dave bullying vignette is to draw the characters closer to Malgrim, not punish you for have a character concept.
Heck, I even knew you'd give the food back. As that is what Malgrim would do. Completely in character from my GM POV.
@ Puns everywhere: "Groan."

t$@#??? What was that?
Turd? Too many characters to be tit... and it's the plural that gets filtered...
Do I not know a curse word? Could it be? Do I need to go British? T$@+?
Oh yeah, that's what it is. Surely. T-w-a-t. Right?

THAT got filtered? Seriously?
Just kidding. Yeah you guessed it. T-w-a-t. So weird.
Seriously, T@%&'s up with that?

Oh, no worries about being singled out. I'm really appreciating the effort you put in there :) I also like the party interaction.
I do think that I might have internally been justifying Malgrim's position with the group as the non-carouser, though I suppose a bit of my OOC self is bubbling into that. (I'm the long-suffering stone sober designated driver type ;))
Anyway, I'm enjoying the way things are going.
Benaiah the Heretic |
I love that you said your ooc self is boiling into your character. I've long held the belief that all of our characters reflect an uncomfortable amount of our true selves. It's awkward and awesome, all at the same time. :)

Well, if this isn't the start of a horror movie, I don't know what is...
Benaiah the Heretic |
There is so much Master and Commander in the vibe I've got right now...
And it's awesome...
And Lockwood is going to be so mad he missed out on it when I tell him about it.
*snicker*
Arimar |
So... when did One-Footed Dave become One-Eye? Anyone care to fly back through the posts to figure that one out? ;-)
Anyway, sorry for the confusion. The word I used was "you'll" in "you'll have a mutiny"... meaning "you will have", meaning future tense. However, that could very easily be construed as present tense. Sorry again, but lets' roll with what happened. Much more fun!
TheBobJones_GM |
Probably typed Fish Eye then went to One Eye.

Woo! PbP break from all games!
Wait... PbP isn't work. Oh man. Boo.
Heh. Playing isn't work at least. Going to make the most of my GM break. I'll get used to what it will be like post GenCon. :-P
Malgrim Stoneseer |
No worries on needing to take a break, I think we've all been there!
My own personal time has had more unexpected claims on my time than I would prefer, partly including a legal dispute with my Home Owner's Association. (I am really growing to despise HOAs...)
Hope everyone has a good weekend!
Malgrim Stoneseer |
Also, as a head's up, I will be without consistent internet access 6/3-6/6. Driving 8 hours to go to my wife's cousin's graduation, spending a day, then driving 8 hours again :P
TheBobJones_GM |
Thanks for the heads up!
Back in the saddle, trying to finish up my posts!
Arimar |
Had that post waiting for 3 hours. Paizo finally let me post it. G&+ d&&n these servers are a steaming pile of s$&*.
Then again, what do you expect with .Net?
Arimar |
No troubles at all, mate. I'm likely to be a tad busy tomorrow but I'll hopefully be able to keep up. ;-)
Malgrim Stoneseer |
The store room are stocked with any mundane items from any rule book, 100 gp or less
So, I'll take a 50 day supply of rations? ;)
Follow up, it looks like we may be starting our drive a half day early depending on when my wife gets off work today. I'll play it by ear.
Also @GM. Totally no worries here; I've been dealing with various RL issues that have been sapping my free time to post, so I completely understand. I have similar feelings for the games I run!
Arimar |
No more time to post today, fellas. Have a good Thursday night, and my hung over butt will see your butts tomorrow (hosting poker tonight).
Love and kisses,
Damien.
TheBobJones_GM |
Got a thing this morning, please wrap up any last questions or preparations. Say goodbye if you want. Will move along this afternoon.
Arimar |
I'm good to move along. Arimar's not particularly chummy with any of the crew, so no need to add any goodbyes - though I do love Benaiah's attempt to keep up their spirits as we depart! Nicely done, mate.
Caerador Grimualt |
I had my District Manager in with me from 11am to 10pm yesterday. It was a great visit and I am glad for it, but I did not have any spare time to take a 10 minute break and make a post. I am absolutely ready to move on; don't wait on my account!
TheBobJones_GM |
Thanks for that. Since Malgrim is road tripping to a cassette tape and half a carton of Swisher Sweets, I will happily move this along.
TheBobJones_GM |
Hope everyone had a nice weekend. So we have a short cavern crawl. Same as always, move yourselves from room to room and delete the spoilers.
I will roll Perception off screen, let me know of any other SOP.
Arimar |
Waiting for the others to weigh in before opening anything up.
As for S.O.P, without Raim, Arimar will hang back. If Raim were there, he might be a good one to send forth to set off any traps.
TheBobJones_GM |
Traps? What kind of bushleague GM do you think I am? This is not PFS sir!
Looks up traps on the SRD.
What a great idea
Malgrim Stoneseer |
And we're back! Sorry for being quiet, but I couldn't connect to the paizo site from the condo for some reason.
Malgrim can take point with searching; he has Trapfinding from his VMC Rogue. Which, reading up on that, is a lot cooler than I thought; in addition to being able to find Magical Traps, it also gives him a +2 (+9 total perception) against traps. Which isn't amazing for this level, but a start at least.
Arimar |
Just FYI, GM... your GM_TheBobJones (Lanvi's portrait) tagline tactical links to the Sanctum of the Sages. Might need to update that. I got a little confused for a while. :-)
