Male Dwarf Rogue 1

As the rest of the party board the ship the dwarf finds a nook belowdecks to stash his wares. The stench from one of the barrels is so strong down there, and the reaction of everyone so unfavourabloe - he has no choice but to leave it in on deck to its fate.

Otherwise Pete remains sullen and withdrawn this morning. He keeps to himself and looks around warily. He greets the other shipmates curtly. He has travelled by sea before - and never really taken to it.

At some point he will approache Alexis:

whispering:
Were ye wantin' to talk to me earlier,lass? If she is asking for assistance examining the locket or tinkering with it, he is happy to oblige: Disable Device:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22, Appraise1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20

If you do't mind me asking ,which god do you worship?"

"I am one of the faithful of Erastil. We will all miss the comforts of hearth and home in Arcadia, but I hope to bring comfort and security wherever we find ourselves. Alas, Old Deadeye has not granted me this power, though maybe someday he will if I keep his faith." Gram pats the seasick man on the shoulder. "I'm sure you will find your sea legs soon."

Heh, actually I think it was she and Rath who were bickering over what constitutes acceptable accommodations. As far as Gregor, she was just being friendly and trying to show that her magic at least is useful (at this stage). As far as the clothes go, hey, at least she switched to a more practical outfit now. Still, not everyone is chiseled from granite like Rath — she'd be much grumpier without the proper support...

What about ensuring that they never again have the chance to deprive anyone else of their lives and dignity? Would you be so eager to give them another chance if they raped me, or perhaps your wife or daughter? What if they murdered someone dear to you?" The princess shakes her head. "No one is perfect, but everyone whether king or pauper should have to be prepared to accept equal judgment when they act out their intentions. When you destroy someone's very soul and dignity, or end their life when your own is in no danger... no, I'm sorry... that's deserving of a fate that no one but the victim or the gods should be able to modify." She walks to the rail and looks out over the Inner Sea a look of revulsion marring her countenance, "And defiling a land where there should be hope for anyone regardless of breeding to forge a life with dignity..."

She says no more for a time instead pacing up and down the ship inspecting the rigging, noting the rise and fall of the wave and the ship's handling, and mentally comparing the efficiency of the Lady Iona's sails against that of The Nereid.

"Not as refined or comfortable, but just as swift... At least the vessel itself is sound."

Heading to work. Hopefully it will be sane tonight...

"I apologize Mistress I meant no slight...just merely that it is good to let these men redeem themselves, even if it means spending the rest of their lives in chains for their crimes only to be redeemed in the afterlife. My faith has a poor view of capital punishment except in rare circumstances where my faith considers someone irredeemable and I would have to know more about these men and their crimes before I could pass judgment."

I'm pretty sure thats in line with Sarenrae doctrine I will have to look it up (PFAP#20) when I get back to my books

"You have no need to apologize for your beliefs, Brother. It was certainly not by your leave or seemingly anyone else's here that we took on such... passengers." She frowns slightly and looks up at the benevolent priest in earnest. "I just pray for everyone's sake — both here and in Arcadia — that your sense of mercy shall be justified and some good may come of this. And no... even if I do believe in capital punishment, I am not suggesting we should retry and rejudge them. While I might have relatives of station in Taldor, I am a princess of Kyonin and joined this expedition as a Pathfinder. Their fates are not up to me to decide — no matter how strongly I dislike Taldor's brand of justice..."

Looking around and following their sidelong glaces, it isn't hard for even Alexis to figure out that they are talking about the foul-mouthed halfling.

"Thanks for helping me, Biter, I appreciate it." Sitting for a moment on her hammock, she says, "Did you know that I actually learned their tongue as a child?" Alexis tips her golden head in the direction of the halfling. "If you would be willing to help me learn your language during the course of our travels, I'd be happy to help you figure out some phrases that you might find useful..."

Sense Motive DC 15:
You don't get the sense that Alexis is being petty or vindictive so much as that she's genuinely willing to help interpret for you if you have something on your mind. It also seems that she's interested in learning the languages of everyone she'll be working with.

"By the way," she whispers to those standing close by (i.e. Rath, Biter, Elorin, and Gregor), "should any sort of conflict break out, if you hear me shout the Elvish word, Elbereth, then close your eyes for a moment lest you risk being incapacitated along with whomever we are fighting. Feel free to let the others in our party know this as well."

Lord Brycen practically ignores Elorin, but beams brightly for the Lady Alexis. "Lady Alexis?" he thinks for a moment. "Lady Alexis Kirmoon? It is a true pleasure indeed to meet another Taldane noble who shares my love of adventure." He bows over her hand in a truly gallant manner.

Wondering if humans simply have a bad memory for titles, Alexis never-the-less smiles politely as Lord Brycen bows over and kisses the top of her dainty outstretched hand. She turns to Elorin for a moment and upon seeing his face recalls that unlike herself, her protector has not lived and travelled on seas and lakes all his life.

"Pardon me, just a moment, my lord." Turning to Elorin she says, "Pelkään sinun hipiä alkaa vastaa siitä, että kevät niitty. Ehkä nyt on sinun vuorosi levätä hetki. Tulen hyvin nyt."

Elvish:
"I'm afraid your complexion is starting to match that of a spring meadow. Perhaps it is now your turn to rest a while. I'll be fine now..."

Alexis returns her attention to Lord Brycen and walks with him along the deck as they converse. "Unlike myself, it would appear that my lord has joined this voyage in accordance with his station rather than as a Pathfinder. A bit naive of me perhaps, but I cannot disparage The Society's passion for exploration or their training. Tell me," her blue-violet gaze meets his, "what part shall my lord play in this expedition? Investor, magistrate, big-game hunter? I must confess, there are many opportunities for adventure and profit in Arcadia. Would my lord regale us with both his past exploits as well as his visions for the new world?"

With Gray's appearance settling the matter between Biter and the Halfling for the moment, there is little reason to stay below decks. Rath signals Biter that he is going upstairs. He silently and inconspicuously follows the main group onto the deck. Perhaps the conversation will bear useful information.

On deck, he follows the 'dignitaries' conversations with interest trying to ferret out their personalities and motives, including those of his teammates. He is most struck by something Alexis says:

Quote:
"By the way," she whispers to those standing close by (i.e. Rath, Biter, Elorin, and Gregor), "should any sort of conflict break out, if you hear me shout the Elvish word, Elbereth, then close your eyes for a moment lest you risk...

He catches her eye briefly, gives an encouraging smile, and nods in approval. Perhaps the incident on the dock is beginning to register. Good. She begins to think as a combatant not an observer.

Stinky Pete wrote:

Assuming that Pete and Alexis have said discussion and he posts it here later, let's also assume that he and Alexis were returning from inspecting the locket when the following scene transpired and that Pete's is actually an aid-another check. If there was anything suspicious about the locket, I'm trusting that between the two of them, Alexis and Pete could restore it to being just a normal trinket.

Even if it isn't your desire to be here, since our fates will be dependant upon one another, it would be good to know more about your situations — there's no telling if we might be able to help."

The guard looks at Alexis and the locket, then sighs and motions for Alexis to give it to the boy.

Gram: At some point after the aforementioned conversations have taken place, Alexis realizes that she has not yet been introduced to the paladin of Erastil. After checking on Elorin to ensure that Gregor's remedy is helping the ranger to start growing his sea-legs, she seeks out Gram.

"Pardon me..." Alexis pauses about 10 feet from the paladin giving him the chance to turn around without encroaching on his personal space. "I believe you met my bodyguard, Sir Elorin, but we haven't been properly introduced. Pathfinder Kirmoon of Greengold, but please, call me Alexis. Might I have the pleasure of your name?"

Not sure if the scene with the locket is happening before or after meeting Lord Brycen...given the timing of everything, it should be after.

What Alexis knows of Lord Brycen:
Lord Brycen is definitely well-known in Taldane noble circles - infamous, in fact, due in no small part to his love of adventuring which is considered quite scandalous among the snobbish of Taldor. Sailing off across the ocean to found a colony is heroic, but slogging it day by day through the River Kingdoms hunting bandits and zombies is just un-Lord-like.
Brycen has always been a rabble rouser, right down to his clean-shaved features in defiance of the Taldor noble tradition of wearing greasy pointed beards. One of the worst kept secrets in Taldor is that Brycen is a serial philanderer, sleeping with ladies-in-waiting or buxom kitchen scullions with equal abandon. The only worse kept secret is that his wife (whom he despises) had wanted to marry Viceroy Tristane's eldest son Coryn and beds with him far more often than her own husband (in defiance of Coryn's own marriage).
Brycen is Tristane's third son (his second son, Teryn, is a Banker with the church of Abadar in Oppara), and from what Alexis knows of the Tristane House, Brycen's appointment as governor is probably Tristane's way of killing three birds with one stone: getting his troublesome son out of his scandalous adventuring life and into something more acceptable, keeping his philandering out of the public eye, and cementing his own influence with the budding colony. Faith in Brycen's abilities as a commander probably has very little to do with it.

Brycen chuckles. "You are very kind to say so, although I suspect my father had other motivations for shipping me off to oblivion. But as it has allowed me the opportunity to meet the fair Lady Alexis Kirmoon, I cannot fault him too much."

Alexis can't tell if the prisoners are appreciating it or not, but it's obvious to all that they have distanced themselves from both the boy and the big man.

Lord Brycen wrote:

There were so many posts from while I was asleep that I kinda didn't know where to start. Just assume that they occur in whatever order is most logical to the day's chronology.

Lord Brycen wrote:

Were it left only to Alexis' amazing powers of perception, she'd likely have no clue if Lord Brycen was romancing her until virginity was in peril. Fortunately, knowing the pulse of the Taldane political landscape has armed her a bit better for this encounter. She makes a point to refrain from any complaints about the current sleeping arrangements.

"Then you have returned kindness with kindness, my lord — you flatter me." Alexis allows herself to blush slightly and takes out her paper fan to feign keeping herself cool inspite of the wind filling the ship's sails. "As a nobleman with a taste for adventure, no doubt you have heard of the expedition my late parents, the Duke and Duchess of Greengold, made to Arcadia when you and I were both young. Even now, my twin sister is finishing her preparations for an expedition to the Mwangi Expanse in two month's time." She pauses to return a smile from the young lord.

"In addition to my... curiosity regarding Arcadia, I have often thought of furthering my parents' dream of someday founding a duchy in the new world. While, I suppose the title of 'princess' has a nice ring to it, I would much rather fulfill my parents' dream and regain the station I was born to." She smiles gazing up at the clouds and trying to look demure, "Even if it isn't exactly considered lady-like to go gallivanting across the frontier, I would like to think my parents would approve. What say you, my lord?"

Not sure if you need any more diplomacy checks for attempting to gather information, or if she gets a bonus for flirting and flattery but just in case you do...

"Gregor, many thanks to you, what faith do you follow, so that I may say thanks to your god for delivering you to me." With a big grin he pops the tree bark in his mouth and starts chewing. After about an hour Fortitude Save 1d20 + 3= (15) + 3 = 18 + 2 circumstance bonus for the tree bark = 20! he starts to feel better.
He looks over the forecastle and takes in the view for a few minutes of solitude. He has never experienced the beauty of the ocean at sea, just a few days from the shore. He senses it can be intoxicating. Looking back he sees Lady Alexis still talking with that human fop, Lord Bycen. He can tell a dislike growing for the Lord already, and he doesn't even know anything about him yet. Maybe he reminds me too much of myself, or what I pretend to be? Well no matter, he muses to himself, spending 3 months on board a ship with a bunch of smelly humans, dwarves, halfings, half-orcs and goblins I am sure will make up for it he thinks sarcastically.

It becomes Biter's driving ambition to search every square inch of the Big Boat. He'll go everywhere - and i mean everywhere - he can get without getting into too much trouble, obviously invading someone important's personal quarters, or doing something obviously immediately dangerous.

Biter's disdain for all things political/societal becomes obvious, as he more or less ignores most people unless they speak directly to him. The exception being his fascination with the sailors. He asks non-stop questions to the men running the ship, often to their discomfort.

You do see him regularly eyeing the rigging, weighing the risk/reward tradeoff of going up there and experiencing the sky-ward portion of the ship. Damn my no ranks in climbing!

I'll stay out of yall's way whilst yall do all this very important intra-personal roleplay. Not that i'm not interested, but Biter would only get in the way.

The exact nature of Brycen's reaction is difficult to discern, though he definitely does have a reaction.

"I suspect that there will be opportunities for us all in the New World, though we will have to prove to Oppara and the Prince that this colony is viable, financially as well as strategically."

Feel free to continue NPC interactions; I'm not trying to hurry things along at the moment, but I'll talk about the next few days.

The ship takes just over two days to reach Absalom, arriving just after dawn on the 7th of Gozran. Upon waking up on the 6th, you need to make a Fortitude save to avoid being nauseated and unable to do anything other than lie in your hammock and throw up. DC 10 to avoid nauseated, DC 15 to avoid sickened. A healing check of DC 15 will give somebody a +2 bonus (Gregor's herbs). Once you make two DC 15 saves in a row, you have your sea-legs, but since the ship stops first thing on the 7th, you won't be able to get that streak going until after departing Absalom. During the 6th, if anybody is feeling poorly, they learn from sailors of special herbs that can be bought in Absalom that help a lot (+5 bonus, 1 GP per dose), and really powerful herbs that can make saves unnecessary (automatic sea legs, 10GP per dose).

Alexis' Diplomacy roll is good to learn about the prisoners. I'll make a post about that stuff (or I might just post it on the website if I can access it from work).

I am guessing that Goblins have a big racial bonus to stealth, that is pretty damn impressive at 1st. That's fine, I'm your huckleberry...

Perception roll 1d20 + 5: 20 + 5 = 25 nice, now the google dice rolling gods are just shining on me...LOL's
This may be the only time I find him though...

To the boy.

"Unfortunately what we expect to happen and what does are two very different things. We must all accept the repercussions of our actions. But fear not with enough hard work perhaps one day you will see your family agian.

Biter eagerly embraces LongEars' game of Predator. He will spend every day at sea moving as quietly and stealthily as he can, always on the lookout for the loud-foot-falls of the LongEars.

I always heard the Longears people were supposed to be gifted with stealth... commenting on Longears' usually loud foot-falls, though he is impressed by Longears' initial success in spotting Biter. This, of course, only elevates the game in Biter's mind, spurring the hunter on.

You can't keep rolling 20's forever, Longears! MWAHAAHAHAHAHAHAH... ahem.

The princess nods thoughtfully. Ah, suddenly vague is he? "A shrewd appraisal, my lord. Indeed we are all dependent upon one another in this venture. No one is an island, they say..." She remains for a few minutes (if necessary) to listen to any exploits about which Brycen may wish to regale her.

After a time however, as if recalling something forgotten, she says, "Speaking of conquests, if you will excuse me, my lord. Your tales have reminded me of a matter key to the success of our venture that I should discuss with the members of my contingent. Good day."

With that, Alexis allows Lord Brycen to kiss her hand farewell (if he pleases), and she curtsies with a coy smile.

At this point, Alexis would be going off to do the prisoner scenario with Pete and Abbas and to meet Gram. Alright, shift's over, I'm heading hoooooome!

You can't keep rolling 20's forever, Longears! MWAHAAHAHAHAHAHAH... ahem.

After a couple of days he compliments Biter on his ability to avoid detection and starts to study the way he blends into his surroundings and avoids sound. Must have spent to much time around humans Elorin thinks to himself.

He knows that his ability to be a useful scout to the expedition will be greatly enhanced if he can learn to move as quietly as his little associate.

The compliment from Longears takes Biter by surprise, but he shrugs it off.

"Eh. Biter is being a goblin, and goblins is'ing being small. Making for it to be hard to see them." He looks up at Longears, and struggles with the words to come next, "Biter must admit that Longears' sharp eyes and sharp ears is'ing to make Biter better at sneaking, too."

A grin playing across his scarred lips, Biter's bare foot kicks Longears' booted one, "Maybeing if Elorin was'ing have no foot-clothes on, Biter is'ing not hearing his loud feets from miles away."

Then he proceeds to show Longears the trick of how to move to fool adversaries' eyes into mis-reading one's body's motions as background movement.

Responding to Alexis' earlier conversation about learning goblin & teaching halfling:
Biter regards Huuc'Mar with suspicious eyes, "If Huuc'Mar is'ing really interested in to learning nasty goblin tongue, Biter is'ing fine with helping." He cuts his eyes over at the Talking-Poop-halfling and speaks loudly enough for his words to carry, "but Biter is notting to want any foul talking-poop-language to filling Biter's mouth or mind." After waiting a few moments to see if his words will merit a response, the tiny warrior's red eyes swing back to meet Huuc'Mar's, "but it is'ing being kind of her to be offering, anyhow."

If she pursues learning, Biter will spend whatever time the golden-haired girl wants and teach her to speak Goblin.

Bluff to set SM DC 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

Gram's Sense Motive 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18

Gram's emotional state is lost on Alexis, however in spite of the formality she shows by greeting him with a curtsy, he has a pretty good hunch that her friendliness is no pretense. In fact, it seems that today has seen her a bit out-of-of-sorts emotionally — that keeping her composure is but one of many things on her mind.

"A pleasure to meet you then, Gram." Now that you've turned around, she steps closer to a more natural distance for conversation before realizing exactly how tall you are. "As far as usefulness goes, I think yours is a goal that each of us personally hopes to prove to themselves and others. To say the least, the reality of our voyage thus far compared with my expectations has left me... apprehensive."

She pauses to look out over the sea, seeming to take refreshment from the wind and waves. "In spite of my family funding a portion of this endeavor, which clearly was insufficient if our lodgings are any indicator, I have joined the expedition as part of the Pathfinder Society rather than in the capacity of my station. That," she turns her head slightly, [b]"has fallen to the Viceroy's son, Lord Brycen, who I just learned is to be the colony's governor. For my part, I shall attempt to aid our party in matters arcane, and eventually to enhance everyone's gear thru the hopeful fruit of my research. What of you? What has led you to join this adventure, such as it is?"

Here's a snapshot of Rath's days on the ship - from Cassomir to Absolom and even, to a good extent, later on. Just can't think of an easy way to convey his behavior without a lot of repetitive RPing.

Rath, spends his days and irregular hours of the evening casually strolling and patrolling the ship and having the odd laugh with Biter. Staking out an isolated spot on the deck feel free to decide where he spends at least an hour in meditation each day, sitting in seiza and staring out over the water. It quickly becomes his known 'hangout' spot if anyone wants to chat with him. If it doesn't disturb the crew, he also practices his martial katas on deck. While he is friendly and willing to speak with any who approach, he doesn't seek out conversation. When he is approached, he is polite and courteous regardless of rank. He treats colonists, crew, 'dignitaries', and even prisoners with kindness and respect. Knowing that he is abysmal at diplomacy and bluffing - he spends his time listening to the crewmen and other passengers. He often happens to be 'around' when any of the more personable members of his group (Alexis, Abbas, Elorin, or Gram) are speaking with the prisoners - hoping to get useful information, gauge the prisoner's motivations, and make a short-list of 'incorrigibles' who may have to be dealt with at some point.

His one 'odd' behavior is a delight in clambering about the rigging of the ship or going over the side on a rope to walk along the hull and dip his feet into the water rushing by.

On one of his forays along the rigging in the mast, he notices Biter eyeing him enviously from below. He drops a line and slides down to the deck, his bare feet smacking the solid oak timbers. "Friend Biter, would you like to climb with me? The view from the crow's nest or the masthead are... hm excellent. You could ride on my back."

Rolls if Biter says yes.
Climb Check 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Acrobatics Check 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23

Bit of a bobble for the initial climb but no fall and then swinging like monkeys. Follow up Climb Check 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20

Biter's eyes light up at the invitation, with a grin being his only response. Clinging to Friend Rath's back, a thought occurs to him. "Biter is'ing teaching LongEars to sneak better, so'sing he can be better at the hunting. Biter woulding be owing Friend Rath greatly for showing Biter how to be climbing well."

Do i need a climb check to hang on? If so... 1d20 ⇒ 17.

Once up into the rigging (where it becomes more an exercise in acrobatics than climbing) Biter's nature gets the better of him. He sits for nearly a minute, rock-still, braced against a wood crossbeam, manically wide smiling face jutted into the powerful wind. When the feel of the wind and the view of the endless water sinks in more, he begins to move about more, his natural quickness and balance ensuring safety where he lacks experience.

He turns back to look exultantly at the monk, shouting to overcome the wind "NOW FRIEND RATH IS'ING HAVING TO TRULY TEACH BITER TO CLIMB!!!!"

Acrobatics check to run around where he can without climbing 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
EESH... hope that's enough.

The Climb DC for the rigging is only 5, if the seas are normal, going up by 5 for every increased level in the wind (beyond moderate).
