Brennus does, indeed, keep an eye out suspiciously. While it seems possible that this one powerful creature could have influenced an entire group of fey, he doesn't really believe it... but he will follow where the one flying creature leads.

Smaxx leads the way to follow the fey creature, and the rest of the party follows, Brennus hanging back and trying to hide in the trees. Ollie continues to cling to Alis.

The fey creature leads you to a cave. The cave appears to be guarded by several small fey creatures, who appear very confused. You can hear a small child's sobbing coming from within the cave.

Unwilling to take Ollie into possible danger until he recovers, Alis asks, Can someone go in there and make sure it isn't another trap?

Brennus slips past the guard creatures, but it is clear that they will not let anyone in who they can see.

Brennus:
You see a small boy, crying. He is tied up, and clearly very scared. He does not know you have entered.

Ollie, are you okay enough to wait here for a little while? I might need to talk to these guards.


"Ollie be fine. Ollie learning to be good and fight evil." The invisible little arms let go of Alis.

For all that Brennus is a cynical, paranoid, power-hungry bird... he is not without a heart. Quietly he lands behind the boy.

"Don't worry, we'll get you out of here," he whispers. "Just don't give away that I'm here yet."

Alis walks out to talk to the guards.

Hello. We're here to take the human boy home. You should probably stand aside so that you don't get hurt. We know that *you* didn't actually want to kidnap a human child, right? It was just an interspecies misunderstanding, and we'll get him and take him home, and no one else has to die.

Alis looks sad, shrugs, and then screams in an otherworldly voice.

She gets as many of the guards in her 15-foot cone as she can (without letting the area of effect into the cave where it might harm the boy), and casts Sonic Scream.

SS Damage: 4d4 ⇒ (2, 1, 4, 2) = 9 Sonic Damage, DC 16 Reflex Save for half

Spell lasts for 7 rounds, during which I can scream two more times, with diminishing damage. Text of spell HERE.

The nasty little fey creatures shriek back at Alis and then fly off, making a few obscene gestures at you as they leave.

Sorry for stealing the thunder like that guys... I thought they were going to fight us.

Alis sees that Smaxx is eager to proceed, and waves him forward. She is unable to speak (without causing damage) until the spell's duration is expended. She stands outside the cave while the others go inside so she won't accidentally hurt anyone.

Brennus's invisibility runs out, revealing a large black raven standing next to the young boy.

"See? What did I tell you?" he caws, triumphantly, as if he had something to do with driving the fey off. "Now give me just a moment..."

If Brennus can untie him with mage hand, he will. Otherwise he'll try to use his beak to bite through the ropes.

Mage hand, together with a nip or two at the ropes, does indeed free the boy. He freezes, unsure whether to rush at the little bird and hug him or cower in fear.

Brennus caws a raucous laugh. "Never seen a talking raven before? Don't worry, I don't bite. Not you, at least."

He gives the boy a little wink, then takes off and starts flying back out. "Now let's get out of here. I think my friends will want to see you're safe."

The boy smiles a little at Brennus and then starts to follow him.

When you have your team back together outside the cave, you find that the boy appears to have no permanent injuries. He is scared, for the bogeyman had begun the process of changing the boy into another of his kind, but you arrived before any permanent damage could happen.

You return the boy to his family, who are quite joyful at his return. Ollie comes with you to try to learn about a good deity who he can worship. Eventually, Gibgub becomes the chief, and the tribe moves to a CN alignment. Ollie goes back and teaches his tribe to worship Milani, and so there is hope that over the years they may even come to be good. The fey return to normal in their woods now that the bogeyman is gone. The goblin who Alis promised a cherry pie begs her to teach him how to bake pies, and becomes an accomplished pastry chef. The town returns to a peaceful existence, with better relations to their non-human neighbors than ever before.

Alis bakes a dozen pies for the goblin that let them in... and takes them to him in person, telling him that he doesn't have to share if he doesn't want to. :)

Brennus enjoys basking in the "hero" adoration for a little while, but soon enough grows bored with it. Now that peace seems to be settling over the town, he starts pestering Bethella about it being time to move on. Given that Bethella is probably not going to post... Before too much longer, they're on the road again, off to see new places, trick new monsters, and maybe dig up some more arcane secrets while they're at it.

The village folk are sad to see Brennus and Bethella leave, and make it quite clear that if they want a break from wandering, they are welcome to come back, even to treat the village as their 'home base' from which to wander.

Busara returns to her cabin in the forest, dividing her time between getting reacquainted with Smaxx, tending the woods and helping the villagers. She makes periodic visits to the goblin tribe, teaching them sustainable living, advanced hygiene and basic healing skills.

Smaxx returns with Busara, contented to making his life at her side. He spends his days accompanying and assisting her in her daily tasks. The only other thing he puts his extracurricular efforts into is finding someone who can graft his claws with cold iron.

Smaxx has no trouble getting the local blacksmith to make him a modified set of claw blades (usually catfolk equipment) in cold iron.
