Yes ranging from adequate to fantastic. I won't be making people bookkeep the cost, but be sure it fits with your "job."

Some wealthy families with high level casters pay for a family members tuition by adding permanent effects. Including, but not limited to pocket dimension rooms. The school charges a premium for their use after the initial student leaves.

FYI TCG, I would leave the level of sponsorship the elves dedicate to Valeriadra's and Lightwing's training to you, as I can see several different levels of their dedication to her training:

1) Extreme Sponsorship: the elves are utterly convinced that these two have a great destiny in store, and as such should be trained and protected to the best of their abilities.

2) High Sponsorship: the enclave believes in the potential of this bond, but are not willing to donate large amounts of funds. Enough for a private room and tuition.

3) Adequate Sponsorship: still willing to sponsor, but due to their lack of interest, are only willing to cover basic accommodations and tuition.

Edit: For some reason I think Circe and Valeriadra as roommates would be funny. Dunno why.

btw, I would like to make my char age 11 (said earlier she is young already), and also small if allowed, she would still be human

for small size modifiers I would use the base rules:
Small creatures and gain a +1 size bonus to their AC, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, a –1 penalty to their Combat Maneuver Bonus and Combat Maneuver Defense, and a +4 size bonus on Stealth checks.

and have these modifiers: -2 Str +2 Dex

it would fit... although I am not sure if a 11 year old would be larger or smaller than an adult dwarf that is considered medium sized

11 is too young for a 5th level character. She needs to be an adult (18 minimum). You can call her petite if you want, but without mechanical changes. If you want a small character make her a halfling or Gnome.

the core concept needs her to be young, she went through a lot at early age, and thus "gained levels" earlier. her class is also about skill and inner arcane sorcery without need for training/education anyway, plus the class is all about learning on its own after all :) (she is good at picking up things)

If an old wizard can be lvl 1 a young one can be lvl 5, experience covers a lot of things from personal advancement through initial talent to longtime training. I can raise her age to 12 or 13 though, that would still work, and I guess a height change wouldn't be needed then

btw: 33+ new comments since I went to sleep, this thread flies off like a rocket

I don't want to role play kids. Sorry. Late teens at minimum.

actual background:

Merlaine went through hard times, she was originally abandoned near a forest and found by an old witch, she was raised until age of six when the witch's hut was attacked by a peasant mob claiming she was evil, the witch she considered her mother died in fire, but she escaped.

She fled alongside the road in the forest, where she was almost killed by a wolf when a local hunter found her and defeated the wolf. The hunter was a former adventurer and cared for Merlaine. She stayed here for two years.

Bandits attacked the hut of the hunter at night, he was knocked out and she got captured and later sold as slave. She was passed along to four different masters before managing to flee.

The first master was a slaver who settled down, she used her as a pickpocket, when he was arrested by the city guard she became a slave of a noble house where she helped out and learned how to sing and dance. The city got attacked later in a dispute over lands by a Duke, and she was taken hostage as they mistook her for the daughter of the ruler of the city. She then became a servant of the Duke, she was shielded by the Duchess from the unhealthy attention she gained from the Duke and she tapped into her arcane powers here the first time. The Duke was superstitious so he throw her out on the streets where Merlaine lived for half a year after which a knight and adventurer took her as a squire. Merlaine follower that knight into adventures and dungeons like a henchman.

When the knight died by the hand of undead in catacombs she managed to flee the vampire and its minions, and got to the city where the school is also found. She was taken in by the owner of the Maid Café, a lady with a fiery temper but good heart, who offered her a place to stay if Merlaine works as a servant and waitress in return once she noticed she is used to such work and good at it.

After a year she was noticed by a teacher of the school who happened to be patron of the café, and recognized her innate magical talents. She was offered a place at the school and the owner of the Café agreed to it. Merlaine now goes to the school while still having a home at the Café, and works there now not to pay for her stay, but to keep up with all the costs for school.

Alright Cyradis is fully done as a character.

As for rooming- Cyradis would probably have a room where she does all of her work. Considering her background, she could either have that room as her living quarters as well or she could be rooming with other people. I'll leave that up to you TCG.

Tiny Coffee Golem wrote:

Hm, you don't have to, I am the one to roleplay her, right? Stats as it is wouldn't even be changed, the only number affected would be the age, and if I still roleplay her as a kid after writing 18 to the age it wouldn't matter either other than for the awkwardness of it

I have met in my life three kids who were much more clever and/or mature than actual adults, I see no reason for this not to work :)
(and two of those 3 had a hard/bad childhood, and the third was a genius son of my former classmate, Merlaine is somewhere in between, and in case you didn't notice, Merlaine is the female equivalent for Merlin)

So, I want to explain my next requests/questions, and why I think they are important for this character concept.

Kezzin is a kobold with particularly strong ties to the draconic blood in his tribe's history. his birth was heralded and long awaited. when he was born and the signs of his draconic heritage were even stronger than anyone could have hoped, his hatching day was made into a holiday. every kobold in his tribe expected a mighty cleric or sorceror, and their disgust, disappointment, and sense of betrayal was complete when they found him writing symbols of magic down and studying the writings. Their chosen one was a filthy wizard; an abomination. etc.

I am drawing heavily on the 3.5 description of kobolds as presented in the races of the dragon book. I would like to have permission to take the dragonwrought kobold, dragon wings, and improved dragon wings feats, and the half-dragon template.

Kezzin is, at least in his mind, a True Dragon trapped in a kobold's body.

As you wish. They're interested, but tuition, basic room and board, as well as a small (RP only) stipend to cover incidentals. Even going to this particular school is an honor. They're interested in your development, but they're not fanatics who want you to live an opulent life of luxury.

Basic dormitories are designed with four stacked beds and four desks. Common rooms, lavatories, etc are available, but not private.

if the char is a no-go despite background I will have to reconsider the whole char/concept

Uncertain if Zurei would be staying with his sponsor or a room in the college. I would suspect the later, but he'd be open to staying with them to be at their beck and call. If he is granted enough for a room at the school he'd likely try to take the cheapest option available from a role-play perspective. He enjoys luxury, but would feel guilty living it up with someone else footing the cost.

Leander's background

Spoiler:

Leander grew up as nothing if not an exemplary Gnome, cheerful and utterly obsessed with gathering knowledge. Just like most youths he said "Why?" more than anything, though unlike many of his peers he didn't stop as he grew older.

At the tender age of 36 (tender for a Gnome at least) he was sent of to the Academy* to become an archivist. He worked there for many years, studying knowledge gathered by others and making sure the dangerous things got secured away into one of the vaults. This way he learned many things, though the wondrous nature of planes, deities and magic always intrigued him most.

Years flew by in the archives and soon Leander was one of the senior archivist. Most of his former colleges had retired or passed away while he was still going strong at 121 years of age. He was happy as could be and had actually already arranged for a tomb under the archives so he could stay there indefinitely when his time came.

It however, wasn't meant to be. One day he caught a young student walking around in the archives with a candle, which was strictly forbidden as open fire could damage the archive. When Leander approached the youngling he apparently startled him and he dropped his candle among the stacks. Before long the entire archived was aflame. All the people inside had been able to make it out in time but Leander's cherished books and scrolls were gone as only the vaults remained untouched. He had tried to save as many scrolls as he could, but it was hopeless and it only resulted in him severely burning his arms.

The fire crushed Leander and soon his hair started to turn white. He had contracted the Bleaching, a curse upon his race that afflicted those who either failed to experience new things or those that suffered great trauma. In most case the afflicted Gnome perished and Leander had already accepted his fate. "His" archives gone, he no longer had anything to live for.

But Leander didn't die. He was one of the rare Gnomes that survived the Bleaching to come out at the other end forever changed; he had become a Bleachling. Becoming a Bleachling was a fate worse than death for most Gnomes yet Leander felt strangely liberated. No longer did he feel the drive to obsessively catalogue and order literature, instead he felt free, truly free. While he had first thought the flames had doomed him, they actually set him free.

Now, 71 years later, Leander has settled in a new life. He still is a scholar and still studies at the/an Academy** but he no longer is an archivist. Instead he now is both a student and a teacher's assistant, taking fledgling students under his wing to teach them to listen to their heart and follow their passion, teaching by example. The only problem is that the Gnomish students fear him for what he is, though that fear is mixed with awe. The result is that Leander tries to avoid them as to not scare them away or distract them from their studies.

*=Not this Academy, unless you'd like the burned down archive the story features of course.
**=This Academy

As far as sponsors go, I'm not sure if Leander would have one. Being a Bleachling means he lost all contact with his family and at his age he hardly qualifies as a typical rising star that would attract a noble's attention. All I can think of is perhaps an extraplanar or otherwise supernatural patron.

Awesome. Totally works for me.

not sorcerer, Archeologist, a bard archetype that is like a mix between rogue and sorcerer, basically a spellcaster Indiana Jones, but also good for a young Merlin

would roleplay her as a cute tomboy who can bake cookies and her spells will be exotic

I still have to hear your final decision about the girl's age, I don't think if I want to make a new concept though

Yep, that's right for me.

I finished up his background. Some minor things I'm still working on like going over his spells (trying to pick ones that both fit the character concept and will be useful to him and the party) and gear.

Edited.

Make the age whatever you're going to role-play.

Hey TCG,
This is one of the non combat feats I'd like to take Cosmopolitan.

The skills I'd pick would be Perception, since as a seer type it would fit, and most likely Perform. Not sure what I would take, possibly wind instruments, but its needed for Harrower, and I figure why not?

Green light.

5-7.

thanks ^_^

Will start to work on char sheet, she will be 13, so I added a bit to the age without losing the flavor

Holy crap! How do you change your account name? Mine is uber lame.

I usually go with Aky, or Akydi.

If I end up with any roommates we will definitely need some kinda sock on the doorknob code...

TCG, does everyone live at the school? or can students go there from nearby city after sleeping there? I know some schools have strict dorm rules

There is a nearby town that you can live at if you like. Dorms are just the standard.

okay, then the town has the Maid Café, and Merlaine will live at a room there, and go to school from there :)

I think a certain amount of camaraderie is lost if people live elsewhere though. :(

TCG - on reflection I'm pretty tapped out time wise right now, so Lorth will go on the back-burner. I'll see if I can finish him up before you do selections, but feel free to rock on without me if I've not got him finished.

Circe Lavaush wrote:

I don't think so, I was in a dorm for just half a year, always hated it.

When I was still at school I always went from home to class, you could still decide to work part-time at the Café though to make friends with Merlaine easier :)

I even did the classic anime trope of rushing to class with a toast in mouth due to being late (although at that time I didn't watch anime yet so I had no clue of the trope, plus it isn't that cute if a boy does it)

You don't need a full character sheet. You've got plenty for selection. I was planning on taking about a week to do some setup (minor RP stuff) and world building. The game won't start in earnest for about a week.

If you want to withdraw your submission that's your decision, but if time is a factor don't feel rushed. You've got time.

Edit: Plus I like your concept.

Totally need to take vampiric touch. Having a theme makes it easier to pick spells. :)

I just hope the halls and rooms of this school are pretty good size, Lightwing won't like squeezing into tight spaces once he grows up some more. Lol

W.O.W.
This thread is like a lit fuse! It just keeps going! :)

OK, for something completely different (for me!);,...

I will create an Alchemist. He does have 'actual magic' (minor magics either picked up from a casty class dip, or more likely feat choices.) But his true magic lies in Alchemy. To him Alchemy IS 'True magic' because almost anything a 'true caster' can do he can emulate. If he can only find the proper mix of reagents,...

He will either be a short human or a halfling with a very much Banner/Hulk complex (or more accurately, Jekyll/Hyde). His Mutagen will focus on getting bigger/stronger (and dumber/less 'civilized') He has a penchant for using Alter Self extracts to be 'normal' (IE= Medium) size, and tends to focus on Extracts on effects that enhance physical abilities.

He will be a whiz at manufacturing potions, Alchemical items (I plan to invent a few new ones for fun!) Wondrous Items, and is toying with inventing magical/alchemical golems. (EDIT-Shades of the Artificer!)

He is very much the 'nice guy/Mad scientist/distracted researcher', but is convinced that his using his mutagen is always the best course of action to resolve a problem. Even when it's not. :)

*edit* Nevermind. Figured out my own answer.

Still adjusting Lightwing some. Working out evolution build.

Also Circe, I think you are building your character in such a way that you will need an elaborate sock code.

White sock: Don't come in.
Red sock: Definately don't come in. Ignore the screaming.

Unfortunately witches don't seem to get Silence as a spell. It could be handy...

purple sock: Company welcome?

I really can't decide if I want her trying to embrace her heritage or try to fight against it. (It'd be a loosing battle of course...)

And then the campaign gets banned from Paizo forums. LOL

Well, there's always memory lapse if Cyradis, or any others should hear anything she didn't want to. Although, how would she be able to pick apart the colours? You're going to have to use different textures as well.

Reigning in from the tangent this thread has taken, I have a question for you TCG. What rules do you use regarding flying mounts (like Lightwing) and armor/barding?

By RAW, it basically limits it to Light (or Mithral Medium) Armors, but should a real threat ever loom on the horizon, Valeriadra would want her friend as protected as possible, so would Full Plate armor be out of the question if he still wanted to be able to fly and carry her with him? I have a hard time picturing something with a strength score in the mid to upper 30's struggling with wearing armor and carrying a rider.

Grated this would realistically only be something sought for in a situation where the Academy was aware of an incoming threat or attack on it. Otherwise the thought would never cross Valeriadra's mind. But as a player I like to have these sorts of things addressed beforehand.

Leander might just end up learning Silence to get rid of the noise. He might also ignite the socks on your door.

I also have a question: I picked up a familiar through Arcane Heritage but I have a problem picking one. The best familiar for my character would be a Fire Salamander (wiki link), but there are no official stats for them. I have no idea which one to use though, if you're ok with that. Neither lizard nor toad has a bonus that fits the creature though (and both lack the toxic skin the creature has, which I think would effect people attacking it unarmed or with natural attacks, probably sickened for one round, like the Green Sting Scorpion's sting.)
