The Battle at Dumai Wells is a total disaster. The asha'man suffer defeat at the hands of the Shaido and Tar Valon emmisaries. The Dragon is brought to Tar Valon.
Looking up from something she had been studying on the floor, Fia gives the stranger a considering look at his words to her sister. She makes no other comment however, but returns to studying the floor, slowly making her way back to the door. There she pauses, "Can we open the portal back for the others from here? Or did that require a specific key?"

Alathea shakes her head. "It is not like that. I could have all the qualifications to become Aes Sedai, and I could have all the wisdom in the world, but that is not what matters. Unless the White Tower raises me, I am not Aes Sedai and I cannot call myself as such, yes?" She looks coolly at Argrand for a long moment. "Tell me, what do you Asha'man do to those who claim to be Asha'man without earning the title?"

To Fiallain, Alathea shrugs. "If we have the maple-wood key, maybe we can. But opening a door requires an intimate knowledge of the other side. I'm not sure that our flight from that place left us with enough time to learn the land as needed, yes?"
Fia nods at Alathea's explanation. "Then there is little I can do for them here. I am going to try and piece together what I can regarding other things. Ryland and Rhoekk are just outside." She turns, inspecting the floor once more before quickly slipping out of the room.

If the door is open now, Ryvin shoos everyone else through, then follows after.

Rhoekk moves about, following Fiallain as she examines the trail and the blood. He stops in a few places to bend to examine something closer, but otherwise says little. The massive bundles that are the ogier's books swing awkwardly around the smaller frame of his body. One or twice, he casts a glance back at the room of doors, where the frame of his fallen friend still lies upon the floor.

I would like to understand who all of you are and what you are doing up here?
I will explain myself first that you do not think my request too forward.
Rumors have circulated among the Black Tower of new creatures of the Dark One here in the Blight. I was sent here by Logain to investigate. I have been here for some time sneaking about. When I saw your group I wished to intervene but my mission had to come first.
I felt compelled to act when it seemed some of your group would not escape the great flames of the forest. My mission is compromised unless any of you have gathered information on the Dark Ones new playthings then perhaps all is not lost for me".

Alathea gratefully takes the [i]sa'angreal[/b] belt back from Ryvin. "Thank you."
Analin looks at Dengorin. "As far as we know, yes." She watches the sa'angreal pass from Ryvin to Alathea without comment, though she does look back at Ryvin to ask "Where did those Keys come from?"

"They were here when we came in," Ryvin replies to Analin. "We need security for this room. Where's Fiallain? I - we need to know whether these keys can move this room, and she's better with 'greal than anyone else I know."
To Alathea, she says: "You're welcome to it, cousin. These things give me the willies, to be honest."
Fia is in the hall with Rhoekk following the blood spatters. Also, while you're more than welcome to seek her out, I think you may be mistaking Fia for Alathea. Alathea is the 'greal expert. :)
Moving thouroughly down the hall, Fia notices the glances back towards the room with Amorial. "The two of you were together when we met, and were close. He was a good man."and it is partly my fault that he has wakened. Why did I let that damned collared sop talk me into letting her go 'home'? Though, I suppose if I were able to travel to Tar Valon and free the Dragon it would be an even better outcome for my journey than any could have anticipated...

Well, I am not asking to betray the White Tower, just rescue the Dragon, after all, I did ask nicely :-)

"The Dark One is the evil twin to the Creator, yes? I'd say that probably means he's a big bloke," Ryvin says, shrugging. "And all these mirror worlds are probably called mirror worlds for a reason; if things don't go right in the keystone world, the one making all the reflections, things won't go right for any of the reflections, neither. But tipping the balance in the mirrors may do good things for the Keystone. Might be a metaphysical case of 'feel better because your face looks good in the mirror'; if we can clean up these reflected realms, if only a bit, it might reinforce the Keystone."
The Ebou Dari taps a finger against her lower lip as she regards Analin.
"I could open a door to Tar Valon now," she says, bluntly, "but I need to know you won't run right off and report on us. I'm a reject. Alathea is an Accepted who now refuses the call. Our friends went through a gateway, blazing around the One Power and showing the Seanchan colours. Argrand here is Asha'man, and there's supposed to be some sort of weave over all Tar Valon that betrays men who can channel to the Aes Sedai. I daresay the Aiel aren't popular in this reflection, neither.
In short, if we got caught, we'd all be so far down the pickling pot, we wouldn't be able to see the sun for brine. And like I said before, it'd get even worse if the Aes Sedai found out about the Keys.
Will you at least give me your word not to volunteer anything about us to other Aes Sedai we might meet, in return for our vow not to intentionally wreak needless harm while we are in Tar Valon?"
Dengorin leans his head against the wall as the channelers discuss. Closing his eyes, he begins nodding off, until he hears something that makes him perk up. "Pardon, but what do you mean by 'this world'? And what is this talk of mirrors relating to them?"

"Hoo boy," Ryvin sighs. "Alright, think of it like this. If a person stands in a circle of mirrors, not only do they reflect the person, but also each other. An infinity of reflections. Now imagine the glass is curved; an infinity of images, all of which are a little different from the one before, and so on and so forth.
There is a Keystone world, which has reflections in the mirrors of... of... of possibility, I suppose. And all these reflections exist. Not all as strongly as the Keystone, would be my guess, but at least some - the ones closer to the Keystone - would be almost just as real. We accidentally travelled from the Keystone world, using an ancient device.
Did that make enough sense?"

"We did not begin our lives in this world. The world we came from was very similar, seemingly up to the very point of the battle at Dumai's Wells. In our world, we were successful in rescuing the Car'a'carn, and the Black Coated men proved themselves a terrible power to behold. The Shaido were smashed and scattered, though what has become of them since in that place is unknown to me. We were cast out of our version of reality by an Aes Sedai, a Darkfriend of their so called Black Ajah. To this end, our purpose in this world must be questioned."
"I believe I am of a mind with Ryland; I do not necessarily see the value in using our time to intervene in this world. If this world is a reflection, like the image in a pool of water, no force exerted on the reflection, no matter how extensive, will ever change the reality of the world it was reflecting. I am not a student of philosophy, though I have enjoyed reading such books before; in the Three Fold Land, books were scarce, and to enjoy reading, it was necessary to find enjoyment and the value of any topic. And so my thought is thus; these worlds are termed reflections, with the idea that they are distorted ones. They are not perfect images, nor consistently altered places - rather they are exactly the same, so far as we can tell, up until a singular point in history. After that point, something is changed, something different happened where the result diverged from what happened in our world. Everything that is different can be traced to that single change, and grows out of it as the world reacts to that solitary difference. In that respect, they are less like reflections, and more like... possibilities. We have seen nothing that would suggest that anything that happens in one of these possible worlds could ever influence what happens in the original 'true' world, if there is such a thing. I do not think, no matter how hard we work to save this world, that it could ever rejoin with ours. We have stepped through many worlds on our way to this one, including some in which the Shadow reigns supreme. The loss of the struggle in those places seems to have no bearing on this one. All this goes to say that I can see no greater priority than ensuring that we position ourselves within the true world, to be able to affect the outcome of the final battle."
"The only caveat is of course figuring out how to assure that it is our world that is the true one, and that it is not a divergent stream of this world, or another. In the absence of evidence to the contrary, I would place my faith the world the Wheel spun us into is the one where we are meant to be. It was a Darkfriend that cast us from our own world. I fear the longer we are away, only the will of Sightblinder benefits from our absence."

"And yet each is a reaction. Not a reflection in a pool, but the shape of the ripples upon the surface when a stone is cast into it. "If there is only ONE Dark One and ONE Creator how will the Dragon on this world, or any other world, hope to defeat him or it?
If I understand correctly, you believe your own world to be the true world and this world along with others to be a reflection of that first world? What if the mirror is shattered, will all of these worlds cease to be?
Was this reflection created by the Creator or a concoction of the Dark One?
To think upon these matters makes my head ache, I am a soldier in a war not a philosopher and not very well read...
Have you met the reflections of yourselves in these other worlds?"
With that logic defeating one worlds dark one will defeat them all. We would stand much better chance in our world where the dragon is free not here where he has been captured. And by dying or spending our time here when we should be assisting our freed dragon may be falling into that Black Ajah's hands. We must find our way to our world!"
Rhoekk's got some deep thoughts for somebody with no ranks in Kn:Arcana. ;)
Analin shakes her head. "It stands to reason that if the Dark One reaches all realities, all worlds, and is the same... entity wherever He touches the worlds of man, then if He can be defeated anywhere He should be defeated everywhere. I am no philosopher, but if He can be bound in any reality, should he not be bound in all of them?" If she was bothered by the implication that her world was not the keystone world, the blonde Aes Sedai did not show it.
She nods at Ryland. "It also stands to reason that it will be easier to defeat Him in a world where the Dragon Reborn is free to follow his own destiny."

Apologies for going AWOL. I couldn't find my copy of the rules, nor an easily downloaded replacement. I read a few things I had, as well as skimming Under the Dragon's Banner. I really can't commit the time to making a suitable entry at this point. Good gaming!
What's funny is I found this thread as I took a break from reading Lord of Chaos.
I have the WoT RPG book, and I used to have the Under the Dragon's Banner netbook, although I'll have to redownload it.
I'm not 100% sure I have time for another PbP, but I am interested. I'd like to read some of your gameplay thread, as well as learn more about your game. A question:
When you say 25 point buy, do you mean the Pathfinder version or the one in the WoT rule book?
currently the setting is in the midst of book 7, a crown of swords. but the difference is that the majority of the group were taken from the main realm into a mirror world through a portal stone by a black Ajah. actually, the party was split and sent to two different mirror realms. one realm actually had Saidar tainted, and the aes sedai were all men. A combination of aes sedai and Whitecloaks. the other group was ported into a realm where the battle of dumai wells was a failure. the Asha'man didnt arrive in time, and the aiel were victorious, to an extent. they failed to capture the dragon reborn. he now resides within the white tower walls. the Shaido aiel have taken Cairhein and are moving south and east.
The group was just in the mountains, in a ter'angreal travellers house from the age of legends. within this house they discovered a room that allows them to travel to anywhere they have been in their past, so long as the location hasnt changed as much. while testing it out, the group has wondered into a trolloc encampment 100 miles south of the blight border. the blight has begun to build up within the area.
at this time, they are being attacked by a group of trollocs...
Okay. I read the first couple pages of gameplay, and it felt like the characters had an established backstory as a group.
I'll post up a character for perusal today or tomorrow. Would I be from the mirror world or from the world they are currently in? Just so I know for backstory purposes.
Yes, there are two other threads that date back to 2011 That establishes this group.
You would be from the mirror world.
Also, feel free to make whatevet you feel like, dont think you have to make a pc to fill a nitch. If you want to play a fallen aiel that has taken to the sword instead of spear, be my guest.

Backstory:
Dengorin Kaltaneos was born second son to a minor noble family in the nation of Illian. Though not as wealthy as other families, they still had sufficient coin that he had a comfortable childhood, and he was given a noble’s education, including the sword and the Old Tongue. His family primarily lived in the city, and so he was exposed to the sights and sounds of a major port city. His weapons trainer, an Ebou Dari, taught him the basics of the sword and the path of the blademaster, though he himself was not one.
Upon his 21st birthday, the Great Hunt was called. Seeking adventure and excitement, Dengorin went to the Square of Tammuz and took the Hunter’s Oath, and set forth to find the Horn of Valere. He believed that the Horn was somewhere on Almoth Plain, and so journeyed there with a small retinue to seek it. While there, Almoth Plain exploded into chaos with the advent of the Dragon Reborn. Clashing with small bands of Dragonsworn, he lost a couple of his companions before fleeing to Ghealdan for the winter. Ghealdan, once part of storied Manetheren, might surely hold the Horn of Valere. He set to seeking the Horn, and then the Prophet came and preached of the coming of the Dragon Reborn. The turmoil caused by the Prophet’s mobs caused him to lose more of his companions before making his way to Altara.
Dengorin seemed to be followed by chaos. He decided the horn could not be in the South, and so travelled to the Borderlands, to seek the Horn there. He and his companions clashed with Trollocs several times, and one by on each of his remaining companions has fallen. Now, there is only him, and he begins to wonder if he should return to Illian, where surely he will be safer, although he has failed to find the Horn.
Appearance and Personality:
Dengorin is a young Illianer in his early-mid 20’s, with brown eyes and brown hair and beard which leaves his upper lip bare. He is well-dressed, if not always in the most expensive clothes, and slightly above average in height and weight. His once jovial personality has hardened somewhat in light of the troubles he has faced, and he no longer believes Shadowspawn a myth. He has a healthy respect for Aes Sedai due to not understanding their strange power, and believes Rand al’Thor to be the true Dragon Reborn. He isn’t quite sure how the Prophecies will be fulfilled if the Dragon is in the White Tower, but he’s sure Aes Sedai have thought of that.
Okay. Great. I'll get an alias set up. Do I need to change anything up crunch-wise? I noticed that you have a section titled "Perception Checks" up top that only has one roll per character.

i also updated the noble class as well to be more reliant with a few special abilities
noble perks:
reference the level noble and compare to level in bard for what you are eligible to take
Noble: (Dragon Reborn #1039) The resources from the UTDB will take affect over the "call in a favor" shown in the wotrpg book.
noble knowledge: as like bardic knowledge, nobles have greater access to books, and may have read a plethora of topics to help them learn to be better, or worse, nobles. THis allows nobles to make all knowledge checks untrained, and can add 1/2 his/her noble level to said checks.
Inspire Confidence: as per the bard rule but with a minor tweak. The increase in bonus applied to those listening will be +1 every 5 levels. so at level 15, the noble can apply a +4 unnamed bonus to those listening. this effect lasts as long as the noble speaks, but should he stop speaking, the effects will last the noble level+charisma modifer in rounds. The noble cannot use inspire confidence and instill fear within the same combat.
Instill fear and doubt: the reverse of the bard rule. the noble has the ability to demand attention to himself, even in the heart of combat. with this attention, he is able to cast doubt upon his opponents, making them second guess their cause. perhaps he points out the infallacy of it all, perhaps he offers money. either way, his speech saps the will of those he and his army is fighting. this ability affects up to 2x the nobles HD in creatures if they are 4HD or more less than him, if less than 3hd or up to 3HD more he affects his HD in creatures. If 4HD or more above his HD, he affects 1/2 his HD in creatures. all creatures listening are allowed a Will save DC= to noble level plus charisma modifier plus 10. The noble cannot use instill fear and instill courage in the same combat.
inspire greatness: as per the bard special ability
inspire competance: as per the bard special ability.
of special note, sword forms are a skill that anyone can learn, so long as they have proficency with a sword blade.
info can be found here: sword form skill info
you can apply up to your level in sword form skill points.
Yup. Using pathfinder versions of feats where they duplicate. For example(s), use Pathfinder's dodge, power attack, combat expertise, etc feats rather than WoT's dodge feat.
Had some people drop out of the group, so i have an opening or two.
Setting: Robert Jordan's wheel of Time.
Ruleset: cross between the WOTRPG book and Pathfinder.
Character creation: 25 pt buy
11th level characters.
equipment: basic mundane items are available, but magical items are incredibly rare. You will start off with a +1 ter'angreal of sorts, but anything more than that is rolled for or found.
Plot point: This is a mirror realm. The battle at Dumai Wells was an utter disaster for rescuing the Dragon Reborn. He is held captive at the WHite Tower by Eladia. for the PCs, two of their own have gone after a third that went crazy and were seperated from the main party. The main party is attempting to rescue their companions AND free the Dragon.
Right now, a Deathwatch Ogier is rampaging through the White Tower killing all who are Aes Sedai. The group has just found him, but part of the group is splitting off to rescue a trapped companion who just gave birth, and another group is moving up to find the Amyrlin, who is key to releasing the Dragon.
Alright, so, always wanted to be in a WoTRPG. Let me dig up my book, but is there something that the group stands in need of? Got enough channelers? Need an agility based character or a frontline fighter? Anything that the party members absolutely will not tolerate?
Well, let's see. We currently have the following characters that appear to be active:
From the world of the books:
Ebou Dari wilder
Aiel Wilder / Wise One Apprentice
Borderlander Wolfbrother
Midlander Wolfbrother / blademaster
Borderlander Armsman/woodsman/blademaster
Aiel Algai / Aethen'Dor
From the mirror world:
Aes Sedai (and npc warder)
Andoran Asha'man / armsman
Ogier Deathwatch guard
Borderlander (I think?) noble / armsman.
Feel free to make whatever you want to make. I dont adhere to the "we need these 4 classes to make a proper party" method commonly found in dnd/pathfinder. instead players make whatever they feel like and then they go on an adventure. It is, from my POV, more realistic in a sense.
I attempt to offer a balance of RP and combat, and encourage players to utilize skills in ways not commonly thought out.
I push the envelope with RP, from cute and cuddly to GRRMartin having sex with the movie "human centipede" and this is the result. see vampric shadowspawn that looks like a cross between slime and spaghetti
I also strive to make the PCs think, and push their preconceived philosophical boundries.introducing a PC that was a seanchan noble sul'dam. lots of drama there, still unresolved
but, most importantly, i just want you to have fun.
as for setting wise, yes we are in a mirror world. It is currently book 7, at least from the PCs POV.
