Beerg calls on Torm's holy aid for Tirrendale, Sorin, and Jack. Bless for you guys, as Beerg noted. Tirrendale lays out one of the drow, and Sorin skips over the top of Kraz to engage one of the crossbowmen. Her staff punches into his solar plexus, doubling him over, then her foot comes up hard, snapping his head up and back. He falls to the ground, unmoving. Jack fires at the creature at the rear, but his bolt bounces harmlessly off the rock wall behind it. Kraz lets out a loud snore, at which Nilelane steps forward (not that anyone can see her) and plants her boot on his cheek, shaking it back and forth until Kraz sputters and wakes up.
The last drow stabs at Sorin with his short sword, and though she dodges the blade scores a line across the outside of her chest, and the wound begins to bleed immediately. 8 damage to Sorin. The blowgun also sounds again, 1 damage to Jack, and Jack now has two darts sticking out of his flesh. Fortunately, neither of them drops to the ground... this time.
INITIATIVE ORDER - Round 3

Tirrendale (Round 2)
Sorin
Jack
Kraz (prone)
Nilelane
Enemies
Everyone up! Jack, don't forget you have bless on you - it could have made the difference between a miss and a hit last round. An extra 1d4 to attack rolls.
Nilelane |
I think with map as shown and unseen targets not being able to be AoO'ed, I could wade through the remaining enemies and cut off their retreat with the invis boat across the tunnel?
In her imaginary land none can see as Nilelane, crowned in her elongated tiara, wades through the combat and prepares a guard against the squad's retreat.
Sorin Greystone |
those actions work just fine Hewy. Thanks! I was going to bless first round and try to keep any of us from going to sleep (looks at Kraz) but alas, I was far too late. Thanks for picking up my slack Beerg! Lol.
Kraz Thadoom |
Kraz stands and attacks the closest thing to him.
Kraz doesnt like sneaky sleep magics!

@Beerg - smites are D8s
@Jack - dont forget your bless
Sorin slides forward to the furthest of the parties current enemies and jabs her quarterstaff into it's chin then quickly kicking the creature in the side of the knee.
Sorin will do this regardless if green is still alive or not. Judging by the current attacks I see leveled at it though, I cant imagine that to be the case lol.

The party completely overruns the drow and the weird disfigured creature with the blowgun, and their blood flows on the rocky floor of the tunnel within seconds. All is silent but for your collective breathing as you stand, observing your handiwork.
Okay, going to save you the trouble of asking and rolling... Here's the loot:
- Four +1 shortswords
- One +1 mace
- Five adamantine chain shirts
- Two hand crossbows + bolts
- Three vials of drow poison
- One blowgun + darts
- One longsword
- One leather armour
- Two potions of healing
- 18 gp worth of coin
- One pouch of jerky (meat source unidentified)
- One drow "love' letter in an angular female hand (in elvish); quite disturbing, really...
Nilelane |
Nilelane, still invisible, picks up two of the +1 shortswords and re-enacts the 664 treacherous duel of Illitran Starym vs Aravae Irithyl, wherein the lost heiress of Myth Drannor was slain...complete with voice-over. The swordplay is intense *ching ching sling*
Performance: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
...somehow its more just annoying than anything.
Sorin Greystone |
Recognizing its quality, Sorin liberates one of the shortswords and tucks it, scabbard and all into her sash belt. Hearing clanging of swords she turns to see Nilelane playing with two additional blades. ”You may want to consider some training with the blades before trying to perform with them.” Sorin says with a concerned look. ”At the temple we had masters of blades that would spend years training with specific weapons. They would perform the most impressive weapon katas that I have ever seen. “
Jack O' the Shadows |
Jack also helps himself to one of the shortswords, as well as the hand crossbows, bolts, blowgun, darts and three vials of drow poison.
"Well this ought to help even the playing field a bit!"
He watches Nilelane re-enact some sort of...thing(?)...without laughing, and politely claps when she is done.
"Very...ummm...energetic Nilelane."
Kraz Thadoom |
Kraz will certainly take a set of Adamantine Armor as well as the +1 Mace, unless someone wants it and in that case he will take one of the short swords. He would also like a healing potion.
"Kraz thought them Drow's would be tougher.. Maybe they sent the punies after us thinking we was puny.. Where to now?"
GM Hewy |
Okay, so everyone claimed their items, put them on their profile, and updated the loot tracker? I just had a heap of stuff taken off my character in another game as I'd forgotten to update anything, I'm not sure I'd go to those lengths with a game I run, but it'd be nice if everyone keeps the paperwork up to date :) Let me know when you're ready to push on.
Beerg |
'Lets make sure we collect as much as possible down here. We can sell waht we dont use and then better equip ourselves to dispatch evils from these lands'
Beerg inspects the adamantine chain.
GM Hewy |
Okay, assuming you're all armed and readied and good to go? If not, can you all update your equipment and stats in the next day or so? Cheers :)
You all make your way cautiously into the tunnel that leads on into the silent darkness. It wends its way roughly east for about 80 feet before you see a corner before you, and even with Nilelane's orbs of light you can discern a reddish glow coming from around the bend.
Sorin Greystone |
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Sorin moves forward keeping an eye on the floor looking for traps.
Stealth: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
rocked it.
GM Hewy |
Sorin moves forward, and as she reaches the corner accidentally kicks a loose rock, which skitters into the wall ahead. Already at the corner, she freezes in concern, but swiftly realises that there is little to worry about.
Before her is a huge crevice, more than 50 feet across, with the tunnel ending in an eight or nine foot ledge that overhangs the gulf. The source of the reddish glow is also apparent. Hundreds of feet below, deep within the chasm, is a slowly churning river of lava. Below, Sorin sees bubbles popping lazily on its surface, and the smell of sulphur is nearly overpowering.
Across the chasm is an exit tunnel, almost entirely blocked by an immense slab of flat stone, hinged at the bottom into the bedrock of the far ledge and held nearly perpendicular by large metal chains that go into the far wall next to the exit tunnel. In effect, it is a large stone drawbridge, now up, which could be lowered to span the deep lava chasm that divides the two tunnels. Narrow horizontal slits can be barely discerned on either side of the blocked exit. A small horn dangles from a post on the entry ledge in front of Sorin. The monk quickly ducks back behind the corner, unsure what eyes may be peering through the arrow slits on the far side.
Well, then! What's the plan?
GM Hewy |
The emaciated dwarf nods. "Aye," he whispers hoarsely. "I vaguely remember fleeing with the gibberlings across the stone bridge, and seeing the river of fire below. That is where the drow are," he grunts, pointing across the way. "My people are in there!" His frustration is obvious as he stares across the great chasm.
GM Hewy |
"I was unconscious when we were brought here. The damn drow knew me for a priest and made sure I couldn't cast any spells from the get go." Tirrendale rubs his scarred throat with a wince. "The horn must be how the patrols alert the guards to lower the drawbridge, but like as not there's a particular signal they give." He gives a slight cough, his throat obviously straining under the weight of all this conversation.
Nilelane |
Feigning disappointment "You still have much to learn of wizardry. My days castings are nearly spent, but after a long enough rest...2 could be hidden from sight through illusion while I play the drow again, and the rest perhaps acting as prisoners..." she pauses "Without rest, everyone could be my prisoner."
Just have 2 1st slots left, so I could become drow and chain everyone together for walking across. Or after long rest Id have some invisibilities to cast as well.
Jack O' the Shadows |
"Maybe while you rest I might take a stealthy stroll up to the gate and get a better feel of the land. Perhaps something will reveal itself as I search around."
With the river of fire, is there enough light for Jack to see decently to scout?
Kraz Thadoom |
i think you need the bridge down to get close to the gate Jack.
"Kraz thinks a rest is in order as well.. Kraz isn't sure but is there someway we can fix Tirrendale's throat? Magic's perhaps?"
Beerg |
What are your thoughts Tirrendale? I'm sure you are eager to free your people but potentially a rest before we enter the unknown is wise. We will have more chance against them should there be numbers.
Beerg ponders this thoughts for a second.
We need to figure out a way where they don't have an advantage, Your prisoner trick might just work Nilelane!
I have healing left if that's inclined to help tirrendales throat?
Sorin Greystone |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
if we all were to sit on each other’s shoulders like a battle stack and then fall over catching the other side, would we be tall enough to cover the gap? Minus Jack of course, he would have to run over us as a bridge since he is the lightest. It could work right? Lol
Sorin considers it for a moment. ”Perhaps a rest is appropriate. We can wait to see if this bridge will come down or not. If it does then invisible and disguised, we may be able to gain entry.”
GM Hewy |
Nilelane, the walls are of rough stone, so climbable for one with the skill, and the ceiling is very high, perhaps 30 feet. The chasm is still twice that distance wide, however, so simply jumping across, even with featherfall, would be unlikely to make the distance. The main problem is the consequences of failure, which is falling into the lava flow below.
Where would you like to take your long rest?
GM Hewy |
Kraz, you're pretty sure that unless the party wants to go back to the windy chamber back near where the very tight tunnel ended, the only real options are the room you defeated the drow in just back through the tunnel you're in now, or the split tunnel back over the lake. If there are regular patrols, you'll be lucky to get a full rest for everybody.
Jack O' the Shadows |
Jack turns from his study of the door and chasm and curses.
"Damn these human eyes! I would help you stand your watch Kraz, but I can hardly see my hand before my face...and that lava river does not help much!"
Sorin Greystone |
Sorin dhakes her head in wonder at Nileane’s strange behavior while moving her off of the cinders.
The monk does what she can to help the others with finding a location to rest as well as guarding as we do.
