The Daemon King (Inactive)

Hello all, how are you doing? This is my recruitment thread for a short Warhammer Fantasy world adventure using the pathfinder rules.

The game is set far in the north of the Warhammer World on the border lands of the Chaos Wastes where a Norscan warlord has gathered an army of barbarians and mercenaries to seek out the legendary Tomb of the Daemon King, desiring the power rumored to be buried within.

You are one of those mercenaries, promised a pile of treasure and perhaps a share of the fallen Daemon's power should the venture succeed.

Character Creation:

Players may use material drawn from The PRD

Abilities are chosen using 25 point buy.

HP are maximized at each level instead of rolled.

Characters start at level 13 with 140,000 gp worth of magical treasure.

You may pick 2 traits.

Any kind of character can be made though some effort should be made to flavor the character for the Warhammer World.

Combat:
I do not use maps or grids in my games, I will simply describe the scene and how far apart the opponents are, other than that movement is mostly abstract and descriptive. Usually when it comes to positioning the player can simply put themselves in the most advantageous position if they have the movement, example: if I say an Orc is x feet away and the players have that much movement than a pair of players can simply say they move to flank the Orc, simple.

One concept I use in PbP you may not be familiar with is that I simply do away with Initiative. Instead combat rounds work like this: After describing a scene and saying combat starts players have 24 hours of real time to post their turn, after the 24 hours the enemy goes, then the players have another 24 hours to go etc until combat is done. PC actions occur in the order they are posted.

If you do not post your character's actions within a given 24 hour period you simply miss that turn.

This style of combat has a couple of advantages, it keeps combat moving and means that the game will never grind to a halt because of a lagging player. It also means as long as you are on during that 24 hour period you can simply post your action instead trying to fit in a specified initiative order.

I am looking for between 5-8 players. Characters will advance in levels at certain points in the story not by the accumulation of XP.

I look forward to playing with you all. =)

I do like high level games, but I'm not at all familiar with the Warhammer world. Never played the RPG or the miniatures game.

Not sure if I could come up with a background worthy of someone that level.

While knowledge of the Warhammer world is a plus it isn't strictly necessary, if you like you can just make a character and their background as you like and I can find a way to fit it into the Warhammer world.

Grand. I was a bit concerned about that as well. I'll be submitting a Sorcerer who may have dabbled a level or two in monk for defensive reasons.

Grand Lodge

Hmm. I'm thinking either a human warpriest or cleric, or an elven magus, maybe wizard/eldritch knight.

It's a shame that having a dragon to ride around is out of the question, but that's how it goes.

Thinking of making a dwarven slayer, mohawk and all!

I'll get something worked up. Probably ranged character. I'm thinking a bolt ace gunslinger could be interesting.

That's awesome!

Silver Crusade

does that rule out unchained classes?

rorek55 wrote:

I only am using what can be referenced on the PRD.

A little information on the setting the game takes place in. Chaos Wastes. Norscans. Daemon Princes.

Woohoo, this has my name all over it. I will almost definitely be creating a Clan Skryre skaven for this. I assume the gun setting is "guns everywhere" because this is the Warhammer world?

Yep, guns everywhere.

One other thing: Leadership feat? Thinking about ways to get a rat ogre pet, similar to Thanquil and Boneripper.

Thinking gunslinger (gun tank) 5/slayer (Stygian) 8, looking for retired Imperial Marine flavor.

Not too sure on the flavor, but the Marines is this world, right?
Huge powered armor, guns blazing?

You're thinking of Warhammer 40k not Warhammer Fantasy.

If you would like to join a 40k game though I run this one and am always accepting new players =)

Hmm. Not too keen on using anything other than Pathfinder.

If only that game had these rules.

Would there be a way that my Marine could have made it to this world?
I'm just not that up to speed on what the difference is, I guess.

I've always wanted to play an Imperial Marine-type character.

If not, I'll see what else I can come up with.

Wow, this sounds like fun! I'm far too busy with real life and a couple of other play-by-post campaigns, but I thought I'd cheer you on. Have fun!

Now I must soberly withdraw before thinking about how I would represent a high elf wizard all the way from Ulthuan (possibly an abjurer for such an adventure?), wood elf mage (druid or spirit whisperer wizard?), or even a wardancer (some blend of bard and swashbuckler, or warpriest of Loec?), or... Darn it. :)

Are the characters good guys or bad guys? What non-human races make sense?

Sorry, a crossover character would kinda ruin the tone of this game. To learn a bit more about the world this is to a wiki like page that you can browse for more information.

Well, if you change your mind those sound like some fun characters you can play=)

JoshB wrote:

You're mercenaries so you can be of any race or alignment, though the pure good ones are probably a bit more rare, if you are familiar with the setting you are basically Dogs of War, which can include anything from High Elf princes to Chaos Warriors.

Silver Crusade

Interested
Aasmar cleric would be a lot of fun.

Silver Crusade

Gm are are using PRD And we want to be Chaotic can we use race builder?

if so what RP will have to make a race with?

Yes, you can use the race builder with 10 RP.

So a Eshin Ratfolk Ninja wouldn't be out of the question?

Sure, feel free.

Silver Crusade

Craft feats GM, can we have them and use them pre game?
Also Pre game crafting costs, as stated or more?

If you have them you can use them at the normal cost pregame.

OK, here's Simo, a sniper, perhaps a Graeling. He grew up hunting, using an old family heirloom crossbow and never decided to 'upgrade' to the newfangled firearms. He likes it quieter. Didn't scare off other game.

With all the tumult in the area, he found that taking a job with a mercenary company was far more lucrative. His ability to do things with a crossbow which puts most riflemen to shame keeps him in demand.

Wayfinder (1 @ 0 lbs) A small magical device patterned off ancient relics of the Azlanti, a wayfinder is typically made from silver and bears gold accents. Are you doing "guns everywhere" or "commonplace guns"?

Advanced firearms like revolvers in everyone's holster doesn't seem like a warhammer thing.

Guns are very popular with certain factions like the Empire and the Skaven and they have things like this.

At thirteenth level the heroes can have access to pretty much anything they want that isn't a laser gun.

This is SR, offering Senna for consideration. Her crunch is under her profile. If I get selected - and we have another arcane caster of some ilk in the crew - I'd like a chance to change up some spells so we've got more bases covered.

Concept:
Senna is a flexible evoker (mostly fire, acid, and force) and utility spell-slinger. She doesn't have to be a stand-off caster and will enter melee to drop some deadly combo of magic without a second thought. Casting on the defensive is second nature to her.

Pitch:
Out of the land of the Border Princes, she comes... a small woman with a reputation that casts a long shadow built of smoke and ruin.

The woman isn't much to look at: slender and tomboyish with olive skin and brown hair. If one looks beneath her woven conical hat, her eyes are disturbing, as they are entirely hidden behind glittering black crystal eye cups set in a fair face (albeit one tattooed with a vertical slash of ancient characters from brow to cheek bisecting one eye). But her equipment draws more attention. A worn shirt, breeches, and mud-stained boots ride her form below an open silk robe so blue it is almost black. Looking closely, the robe is embroidered with stylized dragons. Lashing the robe in place are a wide leather belt at her waist and a worn bandolier strapped across her chest. The bandolier holds a variety of pouches, two slender metal rods set for easy removal, a scroll case, and a wicked wavy-bladed kama.

If it weren't for the gear, the woman might be mistaken for the 'girl next door'... save for the tattoos that mark her from neck to ankle. It is whispered that some are words of power, totemic animals, and the long count of every orc tribe, goblin tribe, village, or daemon she has destroyed. Her body is her resume.

Her reputation precedes her in hamlet, thorp, and village. They call her the Daughter of Dragons or (among the Orcs) Sister Scourge. Few know her as Senna Proviso - or care - so long as she leaves their village as something other than scorched earth.

Personality:
Senna has a sense of honor and follows her own set of rules (LN). She'll take a job for treasure, magic, to settle a debt, or if the cause strikes her fancy. Once engaged, Senna is a fearless, tactically-minded, combat pragmatist. She won't flinch from personal risk if the benefits justify it. Personally, she is plain-spoken, pleasant, 'no drama', and has a steel will.

Not sure if he would work as a dog of war. He is a Grail Pegasus Knight. Have not done backstory yet. Is there a way to make him work in a mercenary band?

I am definitely interested in playing as Kurgan Chosen Warrior of Khorne. Building my character and I sent you a PM regarding some possibly iffy choices on alignment and race.
