The Corruption of Hive Spire Auebensheim (Inactive)

Game Master d'Eon

The forces of Chaos work to undermine the capital of a sub-sector. Can they earn the notice of their dark gods and lead a Crusade to burn the Corpse-God's followers?

1 to 50 of 150 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

1 person marked this as a favorite.

New Phaeton is a majestic world, the crown jewel of the Charon Reach. Its capital hive, Auebensheim, is home to teeming masses of humanity at the base to the opulent mansions of the sub-sector nobles. The world's leading export for the Imperium is paperwork, as adepts count the tithes of the Reach and ensure the Emperor's dues are delivered on time.

Not all is as it seems, though. 40 millenia ago, at the tail end of the Heresy, a small remnant of the traitors hid their weapons and stores deep underground. There they activated their Sus-an Membranes and slept. Eventually New Phaeton was reclaimed and the hives built. In time, the gangs of the underhive dug down to the warband's tomb. What few weapons they could use they stole, and the still, armored giants became gods to those poor wretches.

Now they are awake.

Chaos Marines will be members of the original warband that stayed behind. Human heretics can be corrupt hivers, gangers, or cultists of the underhive as appropriate.

Chaos Marines will begin with 4,100 xp to spend or an advanced archetype of their choice.
Human heretics will begin with 5,600 xp to spend or an advanced archetype of their choice. Advanced archetypes do not get any spendable xp at creation.

Characteristics will be point buy. Chaos Marines start with 30 in every characteristic and have 100 points to distribute. Human heretics start with 25 in every characteristic and also have 100 points to distribute. Infamy must still be rolled for, 19+1d5.

Characters must be able to work together, being evil does not prevent you from having friends.

Infamy: 19 + 1d5 ⇒ 19 + (1) = 20

This seems super-awesome, and also outside of my normal games.

What rules does this use? Anyone have a link?

Black Crusade, it is one of Fantasy Flight's Warhammer 40K games.

Yeah, I Googled it. Reading about it now.

Sczarni

Interested.

Will try to work something up tomorrow.

I always enjoy black crusade, will try to create something when I get the chance. Last week classes/finals have me busy

1d5 + 19 ⇒ (2) + 19 = 21

Bolded information is that which about my character, just to be absolutely clear.

Dear Elizabeth,
I know you and I shared many tears over the loss of so many friends when the storm of chaos overtook Virenon Prime, but I have wonderful news, it seems Lord Hazier's daughter, Lady Julienne, was able to survive all this time, and managed to escape recently and found me here at our main home!

She is certainly frightened and a little worse for wear, but she retains all the beauty that charmed so many young lads back at the lovely Palace Verdantia, back when we last visited. Oh, but of course, you need not fear any unfaithfulness, my darling, I eagerly await your return.

Though, I must emphasize that last point in more than jovial jest. Lady Julienne seems to have the dread of the horrible events that happened to Virenon Prime still hanging over. She is listless and cannot rest easily. Perhaps another upstanding Lady such as yourself might be able to calm her.

Ever your Doting Husband,
Reiginus

Lady Julienne Hazier was once a young lady of nobility, with the typical fairytail yearning for freedom and rough and tumble life and seeing what was once outside her door. She trained extensively at ranges and accompanied her father on the lavish hunts he orchestrated for his fellows, passing it off as wanting to participate. That is not to say, however, that she did not enjoy the lavish balls and courts and the dancing. No, she loved how she could twirl men around her fingers with her charm. The freedom she wished for, she was by no means prepared for.

A Traitor Legion, the Night Lords, attacked her home world, surgically striking at armories and strongholds to plunder the weapons contained before moving on. Her father's vaunted collection of masterful hunting weapons was included in those, and when they came, Julienne could do nothing but sob in terror in a corner as her family and friends were effortlessly slaughtered. This fear of death is the dread that still haunts her. That was not the end. Cultists and greedy pirates who had noticed this trend of the Night Lords, followed swiftly, taking everything they wanted in the wake of the traitor legion. Julienne now had the freedom she so desired, but she would have to fight to survive it.

In fear and desperation, she turned to chaos, joining the chaos cults and the pirates, and somehow she not only survived the ravaged world, but thrived. Her fear repressed, she became an impossible gunner, a dashing rogue, a gentleman pirate. As many mortals, she shrouded her sense of self in the archetype of the renegade, a perfect gunslinger, two pistols spitting death from her hands, kisses blown over the smoking barrel of a gun. The persona of "Julie Dei Vult" gave her strength.

But it wasn't long until imperial order would be restored on the world, since the traitor legion had long since moved on and imperial forces were on the muster. Once again faced with the choice of death or life, she chose life, once again becoming Lady Julienne, playing herself a lucky survivor and seeking refuge with a friend of her father on the world of New Phaeton.

Since her return to normal life, she can feel something pulling her. A calling. She is no longer Lady Julienne, at least not in whole. Julie Dei Vult feels a pull to fetch her prized pistols from their hidden cases, and venture deep, deep into the underhive.

My pitch and background, as it is, stats coming up shortly.

So, this is my first Warhammer 40k RPG, so I fully expect to be wrong on some of this.

Infamy Picks
Good Camoleoline Cloak, +20 to Concealment Tests, while stationary BS tests to hit you suffer -30. It would make sense as Good Quality that I could choose a +5 to an interaction, like with Armor. If you're cool with that.

Questions:
Carapace Armor, does that mean I pick whatever things under Carapace Armor that I want? Also, I think, thematically for the character, Mesh would be more suited. Seeing that Julie would have difficulty lifting Carapace Armor.
I get two copies of Weapon Training SP from Renegade. Does this mean I'm REALLY good with solid projectiles, or something else?
What options are available for Heavy Weapon Training? Is flamer a pick, because I didn't see that under normal weapon training.
We seem to be getting 4000 extra experience compared to normal, unless I'm confused about what Advanced Archetypes are, so does that mean we get an extra 12 Infamy, and 20 corruption?
If so, is there anything to stop me from leaving 2250 experience unspent, then starting the game and becoming Slaanesh aligned, and then buying a ton of Slaanesh stuff in the first moments?
My character's background as a Noble would imply she knows high Gothic, but I couldn't figure out how to do that.
I'd like to get a sniper rifle, and I'm wondering if there are any options other than the Long-Las/good upgrades for it in the splatbooks, as I've only got the main book.

Infamy: 19 + 1d5 ⇒ 19 + (2) = 21 hm, pretty ok. Need to see if can come up with something

Thinking of using one of the older PCs I had created for the other BC games that failed. I'll take a look at things and redo the profile to reflect this games XP level and creation rules.

Samsun is a warpsmith CSM, but I might switch over to human, wanna flip through the materials and make sure first before deciding.

Spoiler:

I am 21, and I am damned. I cannot fathom the depths of depravity that yawn before me. I cannot go back and be what I once was. I was a chartist. I used to plot courses for voidships, frigates, and traders. So simple. So...banal.

You start where you are. You determine where you wish to be. You use math, charts and a map to mark your path. You account for the eddies of the Warp, hearken to the time and plot your points. Day in and day out, the same thing all day. Every day. Until it happened.

A buzzing in the back of my head, a sharp pain above and behind the ears. This lasted for weeks. Then a dull roar washng over my brain. The pain is in my head and has nowhere to go. Sometimes I'd hear voices in the roaring. Nothing coherent, just the tell-tale meter and tempo of words, joining into sentences. Forming new thoughts. Horrid thoughts. Blood and torn flesh. Rusted knives ringing off bones. My bones. My hands. My knives.

I thought it was just an illness. I sought out the deck chirurgeon. He said my humours were imbalanced and gave me ampoules and a needle to administer them. Tinctures, plasters and salves, but the howling voices never left.

The buzzing resolved itself to a constant grinding that played in the background of my consciousness. I knew it serious when the voices called me by name. I told the Master Chirurgeon and he had me clapped me in irons and chained in the brig. He said it was for my own good and as he turned I saw him make the sign against evil magic.

The deck Chaplain came to see me and made me stand naked with my arms stretched out to my sides. He jabbed me mercilessly with a needle. He held a heated iron to my feet til I howled in pain and rage like the voices in my head. In my rage I saw the needle lying on the small silver table. If I could...if I could just reach...it. The howling resolved itself to a frigid gale that pushed the table over. The needle came to me! I touched it, and saw a flash and knew no more.

I woke to excruciating pain and a hot brand on my face. In the back of my mind a voice said "Not long now..." and I repeated it aloud. I tried to move but found I was lying on a metal table. The left side of my face felt swollen and ached. My torturers had me strapped to a table as they branded me with the mark of a mutant. All who see me will know at once. "Soon my love, soon..." But I don't know how soon. Only that I am in pain, and I have been promised to the Emperor, whatever that means.

I am delirious with sickness. I waver in and out of lucidity. The swelling in my face has resolved itself to a dull ache. This is now my existence. Pain upon pain. If that is all that is left to me then I will accept it. I try to think that I will like it, but I know that is wrong and I shouldn't think it but that is what they have left for me. When I think this sometimes I see a feminine face smiling. The features are hazy and indistinct, but I know that she is beautiful. Haunting.

I lie on the table, a hood over my head. Sometimes they beat me with batons of wood and metal. There are two of them and they laugh while they work. They beat me, and they laugh. Sometimes I laugh with them. When I do, they stop. And then they use the shock prods. I cannot laugh then, but I can smile.

Warning klaxons. Battle stations. "Reporting for duty m'lord! hahahahahahahahahaha" but my only duty is to suffer. My playmates left so I cannot even do that. My hooded world throbs incessantly with the impact of boarding pods and explosions. Here in the depths. In the bowels of the ship I am reasonably safe from immediate danger. But if my playmates are dead I will not be able to fulfill my function.

Time passes and the throbbing sensations fade. I hear chains rattling and smell something sweet and enticing. The chains rattle all the way up to where I lay. Something like a knife traces a path from my crotch to my chest and stops there. Something feminine mutters something but I cannot hear clearly. A hand on my chest clenches and I feel claws digging into my skin. I seize up slightly and coo softly to the voice.

The hood comes off suddenly and I am blinded by the light of sodium lamps and a hazy indistinct figure standing before me. I see one green eye and one large red eye, blasted black all around it.

"You belong to me now worm...seek my satisfaction and you will live." I am finally home.

Still need to spend some XP as well.

Thank you, I'd forgotten the Infamy and Corruption increases. Marines that do not take an advanced archetype get +9 Infamy and +15 Corruption. Humans that do not take an advanced archetype get +12 Infamy and +20 Corruption. As much xp as possible must be spent before checking for Alignment changes.

Carapace armor - swapping for mesh is fine.
Weapon Training - it should be chain, flame, Las, primary, sp. The second sp is a typo. You can have heavy weapon (flame) if desired.
High Gothic - buy Linguistics (High Gothic) as a skill.

Care to check my build if I happened to forget something?

Noticed that missing +10 from Parry which I get as a Chosen archetype. Otherwise not sure what else could be wrong. 200 EXP still unused so might consider it for talent or skill

I didn't take any additional eq as the only thing I really want is a Force Spear.

Definitely going to throw away the stub revolver and flak cloak

Huh, wow, do we already have three mark of Slaanesh's? This looks like fuuuuun. :P

GM: I have my stats entered such that they should appear over every post IG and in Discussion

Can I play a human techpriest who was with the old warband, and used his archaeotech to join them in hibernation? I like the idea of the fish out of temporal water, and would enjoy playing an old Martian.

That is possible, The Doom That Came to Sarnath.

Great name, by the way. <tentacle five>

Cool. I'm thinking of going heretek or using the Magos Idolitix from Tome of Fate refluffed as a dark mechanicus who has been playing with forbidden lore.

EDIT: Does the magos idolitix get the heretek's discount on mechanicus assimilation, and what's the limit on assimilations? Obviously, taking it hundreds of times is ridiculous and silly.

Here's a nice image of Zurias

SEXY!!!!

Interested... I've only played this once though. Might make a psyker of some sort. Though I don't know if I should play human or space marine.

edit: How detailed of a history are you expecting?

infamy: 1d5 ⇒ 3

Added some additional background to explain how I wound up on New Phaeton.

Added some "cheat" notes for psychic powers. Check my profile for changes. I'll add some more notes later

So. While typing all that stuff, I noticed I did not meet the prereq's for Celeritous Sense (Lightning Reflexes lol oops!) So in lieu of the 400 pts spent on Celeritous S, I bought Unnatural Healing (300 pts) and Preternatural Awareness (100 pts)

Also note, my Charm skill should be at 60 (when I bought the next level I added 5 pts, not 10. oops again!) My profile has the corect calculation.

Wanted to play thousand sons sorcerer, but no xp remaining for any powers, if I'm reading it all correctly...

Want a CSM dedicated to tzeenth but how do align with him before spending xp or during? I'm not sure of how/when to roll for marks or gifts as every BC game I've played here never got to the point of spending any xp beyond basic creation. If anyone has a simple explanation Id appreciate it, so far I'm stuck at creation bc I don't know how to do those things or not sure if anything at all should/could be done.

If you have now already reached your 5 points = Chaos God > than any others-> you will roll for the mark of "x"

If you want to be aligned to Tzeentch you should buy skills, talents, and characteristics that are aligned to him. Each skill, talent, or characteristic gives you one point towards alignment. See page 76 of the CRB for a list of characteristics, skills and talents aligned to Tzeentch.

Once you hit 5 points more in Tzeentch than any other power (other than Unaligned, that doesn't count), then you are considered "aligned" and can purchased psyker powers of Tzeentch and can also pick up mutation benefits given by Tzeentch.

To continue gaining these abilities you must maintain a five point advantage over the other three powers and you progress.

Alignment checks happen at each tenth Corruption Point (10, 20, 30 etc).

NOTE: Starting play as an archetype may grant you automatic alignment, but it is up to the player to maintain that alignment later on!

And I jus roll for the marks, saw some people rolling for gift of gods before rolling for their marks... We'll see, I'll post what I got and go from there.

Thanks for help Zurias, liked your pc from last game, looking forward to seeing him in action.

If you are aligned to Tzeentch and are also required to roll for mutations, the first thing you should do is an Infamy check to garner Tzeentch's attention. If you make the check, you can use the table found on Table 9-8 p. 303.

If you fail the roll, then roll as normal on p. 291. Don't forget, you can adjust this roll either up or down by your Infamy bonus.

One last thing. You start play with a Force Sword. Make sure you read and understand the immense power of this weapon. Page 149 CRB under the heading: "Force".

Yea, Im good with the rest and equipment, playing lots of 40k elsewhere, but haven't delved much into Chaos and Black Crusade. Thanks.

Question. I was told that we were not allowed to align during character creation, that we had to buy everything at allied cost. Is the case of powers an exception?

I don't see anything at the top of the page to indicate that. Unless the GM said otherwise, I think you may have been misinformed. If that is the case, then I'll have to DRASTICALLY alter the way this character is written. AND re-write a new background.

Check said last sentence.

Any character can gain any alignment by spending a minimum of 1150 xp if that is their intention. I certainly hope it wasn't the GM's intention that we just spend xp willy-nilly all the way to the end and then check after 5300 xp was spent. The problem is we haven't been given a schedule of when we receive those corruption points. Most GM's I've played under that gave out a blanket 5300 xp and 12 corruption points allowed for a distinct alignment to be gained as quickly as possible. I certainly hope the same was done here.

For the nit-picker: The easiest way to introduce this accurately is to say the following "For every 1325 xp you gain, you also gain 5 corruption points and 3 Infamy".

We have been given a schedule. We receive them in one lump sum at the VERY END.

We are allowed to gain a distinct alignment, by spending XP on the god we want, and then at the end we gain that god's alignment and boons. We are not allowed to min-max our XP expenditure.

I wont argue with you about this. If the GM has an issue with my character, he will tell me.

Hello everyone. Exam week is over and I'll be looking over the submissions this week. Thank you all for the interest, and contact me if you have any questions.

Nice to see you Zurias, I'm bringing back Hephaest. I'm still working on his backstory, and have several rules questions.

1. May I refluff the Idolitrex Magos to be a Martian? I will explain how he became a psyker in his back story, basically playing around with forbidden tech after Mars turned to Horus.
2. If 1, do I get the heretek discount on acquiring mechanicus assimilations? As is, I assumed so and grabbed it 4 times (I was able to get it 2-4 times from starting acquisitions).
3. If 1, he wouldn't have Common Lore (The Hollows), so should I replace that with something like Martian common lore or just drop it entirely?
