The Avalon Chronicles

Game Master lynora

This is a high level rules light game set in a school for magical kids, kinda a mash-up of Soul Eater, Harry Potter, and X-Men. :)

"With your permission, Master Vakkler?" Sinh turns the girl around gently and starts walking towards the Headmaster's office. He keeps her tucked protectively against him. Only the simmering look in his eye speaks to the fact that his grip is more of a restraint than a way to comfort Nala.

"Miss, no one gets dead while I'm around - monsters, Headmasters, or no. I got a rule about that."

"But this creature has already attempted to kill her. She is very frightened, and most of the people speaking to her are threatening her. I do not believe this is helping her to be calm and think properly about all of this," he calls out to the two adults as he looks around for something large and metallic...

narrator wrote:

"Th-th-the last thing I remember was helping Nala clean the slime out of her hair...after the assembly...and then I was in the kitchen...and Jiminy was dragging me by my hair...I don't understand...I don't know anything, sir," Jiminy's prisoner sobbed.

The other girl nodded. "Yes, I was helping too. I...I fetched some towels...and then...I don't know...something...lots of teeth....too many teeth..."

Ryo's eyes cloud as he sends tendrils of his consciousness into their minds, being gently yet firm as he searches for what really happened.

"You're telling the truth. Asch, Spin, could you take these two to the infirmary, preferably the one of the first floor?" He gestures and a door appears in the wall. "Take this door. I'm about to get yet more visitors and I do not want you to slow them down, or vice versa."

It's not so much a sound as it is a strange change in atmospheric pressure. A warm lift, the direct opposite of that terrible cold drop that happens when something goes wrong. Nasima lifts her head. "Hunh?" Standing, she steps quietly up to the door and peers in.

"...Mrs. Sunwake?"

Fei, of the Sun Soul wrote:
"Very well," he replies as he goes over and strikes the creature.

Even with no signs that the creature was faking, Fei takes no chances and slams his fist into the creature's skull, ensuring that is stays knocked out.

Sinh keeps Nala marching forward while answering Fei's question, "Well, young sir, your point is fair... But I hain't threatened her and she ain't dead neither. So it looks like my word is still good."

"The last thing we need is her coming up with some self-destructive plan."

Looks amused

"You mean any more self destructive, Sir? Attacking the headmaster's family wasn't exactly an exercise in self preservation."

Nala is marched sullenly along to the Headmaster's office, convinced she is being taken to her doom.

Fei just shakes his head in confusion at the kobolds' conversation, finding a piece of plumbing pipe that came loose in the scuffle...

Autohypnosis check for body kung: 1d20 + 29 ⇒ (17) + 29 = 46

...and 'hog-tying' the creature with the piping. When he turns back around...everyone else has apparently left.

"Um..."

Sinh keeps a close eye on his charge, not sure if her words were school-girl theatrics, blind panic, or if they contained some element of the truth. While he didn't like Nala, particularly after her attempt to ensorcel him, he wasn't favorably disposed toward seeing the girl die.

We'll see what the Headmaster makes of all this.

??? Spin is in the hallway with the other group...Asch, Amada, Jiminy, and Fieri are in the Headmaster's office...and convincing Jiminy to leave might be...difficult...

Whoops, okay, Asch and Amada can take them.

"Jiminy, could you check on your sister please? I think she'll be waking up soon."

Jiminy's eyes narrow.

"Yes. Her presence seems to be getting stronger. Or was that actually supposed to be code for get the hell out before you make a mess of things?"

"Yes. Right now you are very angry, and things are about to get rather stressful here in my office. It would be best if you are not here. Kindly tell your mother that if she can stay calm and out of sight if she chooses to be here, I'll introduce her to someone she has been wanting to meet."

Jiminy looked like he wanted to argue, and then stopped.

"If it were anyone else asking, I'd tell them to go to hell. But since it's you...very well. I'm not happy about this, but if Mom is going to be here I'll accept it."

He stalks out, a confused Fieri trailing behind.

Ephebe's eyelids flutter as she finally finds the strength to open them.

"Unh. Wha- what happened?" she groaned.

Aananda smiled down at her daughter.

"You're awake."

Her expression turned serious. "Someone poisoned your food. It....it was a bit touch and go there for a while, but you're going to be fine."

Imagefemale weredragon (amethyst) gestalt Soulknife17/oracle10/divine gunslinger7

Ephebe looked puzzled. "Poison?"

Just then Jiminy came in.

"Pheebs. You're awake. That's good." Some of the tension seemed to leave him.

"Mom, Uncle Ryo sent me away because something is about to go down. He said to tell you if you can stay calm and out of sight if you choose to be there that he'll introduce you to someone you've been wanting to meet. I don't know what that means, but I think you should hurry. One of us needs to be there."

"No, dear, you can't feel them at all. But they heal much more slowly than a healing potion or a cure spell. Still, they make an excellent backup for those times when a divine caster isn't available."

She nodded. "I understand. Jiminy, stay here with your sister. Nasima, you can stay as well. Fieri, go and check on Taron. He feels...distressed I think."

She stood up. "I will be back as soon as I can." She leaned down and kissed Ephebe's forehead and slipped out of the room.

If Ryo weren't familiar with Aananda, and didn't have ridiculously good security, even he wouldn't know she was there, hidden just inside the wall, just close enough to the surface that she could hear everything.

"Hi Phebe. Glad you're in one piece." Nasima smiles weakly, clearly concerned, and hugs her arms to herself. "How do you feel?"

Meanwhile, Fei has located one of those wheeled collars that some trashcans have attached to them, and has wrestled the unconscious creature onto it. He walks down the hall, pushing his charge along on the squeaky contraption, looking for a teacher skilled in binding magic, or the offices - whichever comes first. :)

If the creature begins to stir, he applies another nonlethal sedative strike to keep it out cold.

"A bit like I just got cooked," she said, hoarsely. "Everything burns. If one of you could find a scroll of lesser restoration? I'm sure I'll be able to cast it in just a little while. Once I can move my arms again."

"I had the strangest dreams...."

Jiminy perches on the end of the bed, watching Ephebe with concern. When she asks for a scroll he jumps up and starts shuffling through drawers looking for the right scroll.

Fieri walked down the hallway uncertainly. Find Taron...right. Where? Well, she supposed she could head back to the cafeteria. Maybe he was still there....if not she'd check his room. She was pretty certain he wouldn't be in class after all that.

Krays looks lsot in thought for a sec as he's walking with the others to the headmaster's office
"Ephebe is conscious now, and recovering." He shares with those around him.
"Your day just got a little brighter", He says to Nala.

Nala doesn't look convinced. The door to the Headmaster's office loomed ominously in front of her. She swallowed hard.

"Please, no," she begged, not believing for a second that she would be shown mercy.

"We'll take them." Asch says as he leads the two girls out of the room he and Amada encircling them for protection/security. Asch's caster is drawn with a chain lightning shell loaded and ready.

Vakkler glances at Nala. "You're going into the office." He seems a little regretful. "Nothing we do can stop that now."

He walks up to the door and knocks upon it.

Vakkler turns and goes around behind Nala.

Sinh escorts Nala in and sits her down gently. He moves toward the door, fidgeting slightly.

He speaks hesitantly, "Beggin' your pardon, Headmaster... but the young Miss seems quite sure she's going to be killed by you or Miss Ephebe's family. She's been frantic about it. I've said that isn't so... I'm not mistaken, am I?"

"No. I refuse to allow death threats to be answered by death. She will be punished, of course, but not like that." Ryo says as his eyes flash with anger at the very idea. "Rest assured, Nala, you can calm down and relax while you are here."

F Sylph

"A dream? What was it about? Please say you didn't dream about lasagna." Nasima gives a lopsided smile.

Sinh breathes a small sigh of relief that he hadn't misjudged the man. "Thank you, Headmaster. I'll be about my business then unless you have further need of me?"

Image

Nala eyes the Headmaster warily as she sits down. She didn't believe a word of it of course, but there was nothing she could do about it now.

"Unless Miss Zamarosok here would like you to stay and protect her, you may go, Mr. Sinh."

"So, let's get your reasons out in the open." The Headmaster says as he returns his attention to Nala. "Why have you been conspiring, with or without the Hunter we know is prowling this school, to kill Ephebe Sunwake?"

"No," she said with a weak chuckle, "though I don't think I'll be eating any lasagna any time soon."

"No, it was...I think it was supposed to be past, present, and future. First I was inside a golden clock...I've been there before, when Kronos first gave me the mission to stop the time demon....and then I fell through the sands of the hourglass...and then I was in a hall of mirrors and evil-me was offering to help me against the Hunters, but I told her to stay away and that I couldn't win against them by becoming what they accused me of being, and I ran through a mirror...and then I was falling again and I landed inside a maze...and then there was a woman, someone I didn't recognize, and she guided me through the maze and she said...she said the future was like the maze because even if you were going in the right direction you couldn't see it...and something about lonely not being the same as lost and then there was a door in the center of the maze and she said it was time to wake up and pushed me through.....Not exactly the sort of thing that makes a lot of sense."

She squirmed under his gaze. "Because she's a monster!" she blurted out. "Everybody thinks she's so wonderful, but really she's a...a ..d-d-dragon, and everybody knows that they're evil creatures that will destroy everything if you give them half a chance! Well. I wasn't fooled. And I wasn't about to stand by and do nothing!"

Not being acknowledged or given entrance, Krays will slink off from the Headmaster's office to the infirmary to see Ephebe.
He pokes his head in, and seeing Nasima and Ephebe he knocks quietly on the door jam

"Can I come in?"

"Why would you think she was a dragon?"

"An interesting choice of words. Let's look up some of the definition of the word 'monster', shall we?" He says as a book leaves the shelf behind him and opens to the Ms on it's won. "Monster: An imaginary creature usually having various human and animal parts. Then there is the one you may be thinking of. Freak: a person or animal that is markedly unusual or deformed. Well, dragons are quite unusual compared to you or me."

"But not too long ago I would have been considered a monster. It's practically common knowledge that I am a Cardcaster. Can you believe people used to think we could seal them away in cards and control them? Rumors spread by the ignorant."

"And then there is the fact you are a witch. I can get a book down to show the last known recording of a burning at the stake, because back then witches were considered monsters."

"Cardcasters, witches, and dragons all have one thing in common: lies were spread so people would turn against them. Were you going to poison yourself because you are considered by some a monster? Would you stick a knife in my back?"
