The Avalon Chronicles

Game Master lynora

This is a high level rules light game set in a school for magical kids, kinda a mash-up of Soul Eater, Harry Potter, and X-Men. :)

"Well, yeah, if you want to go for the obvious solution," she said, smiling.

"We're fine." Jerak assures Kitty, ignoring the blush. "If it's no trouble, I'd like to see the alchemy classroom. Michael's talent in that area is astounding."

"He really is," she said enthusiastically. "I can't even understand half of the stuff he does. It's just this way. Professor Yrrum might be there, but I can't be sure since it's a weekend. He'd be able to explain this stuff a lot better than I can," she said, leading the way to the alchemy room.

"Go past tindertwigs and you lose me pretty quick. Alchemy was never high up on my list of interests though. Oh, it seems Professor Yrrum isn't here." Jerak says with mild disappointment as they enter the empty room.

"At least we can ask Kitty about her little bout of insight back in the infirmary without being overheard though." Sylvia tells him.

"That is true. I was just going to let her forget it though."

"Umm....my family are shinobi. Noticing details is kind of a survival instinct....so I wasn't wrong? Michael and Anothony-kun inherited their powers from their mom? Oh. I'm prying again. Please forgive me. You don't have to explain yourselves to me," she said, bowing.

"We would not have mentioned it if we weren't going to discuss it, and you are only partially correct anyway." Mrs. Dacamara tells Kitty. "What you noticed back there was just a bit of healing magic I picked up in my youth."

"Michael's telepathy came from me, actually." Jeran says. "But it's nothing like mine. In my younger days I used to read situations. I was a bit of a con man you see, and it helped."

"Of course, that's not everything there is to tell, but we left that life a long time ago." Sylvia adds. "We'd rather no one else found out about it, especially our children. It wouldn't fair to have them think we're 'awesome', as Anthony would say, after all these years."

"Tied... kinda like Nimceleb is tied to me?" Vai pets the sleeping dragonling curled around her neck. (I keep forgetting about it, so just assume it's there all the time. xD)

"Well... are the... uh... nan-ites... tied to you Mom?"

Image (doesn't have wings)

Kitty carefully considered her answer. "Well...we think that it's okay as long as I don't lie about myself. That withholding information, especially about others, doesn't count and won't render me invisible again. But I have to answer truthfully if I'm asked directly. So if they don't bring it up, I don't have to tell them. I think."

"Not exactly like Nimceleb is tied to you, but a similar idea. And no, the nannies are just very tiny robots. But this magic is different than what I usually work with. So I really have to take it apart to figure out how to make the exact same thing in a very different way."

"Aw, no fair," Rodhas complains. "Alright, well then I get Joneh."

"Fine."

Morrivan and Rhodas bickered their way through choosing teams until everyone was assigned to one or the other and they all took their places on the ice to start the game.

Ehos couldn't use his magic to help him here, but this little ice field should be nothing compared to jumping from snow-covered tree limbs. Ehos mock-salutes Morrivan and runs onto the rink, easily maneuvering despite the slick ice. Besides, moving would keep him warm despite the biting cold.

The shrine of serendipity appeared to be nothing but a simple stone building. There was a crumbling door and no roof so the moonlight illuminated the inside clearly. At the back of the building was a simple stone altar.

"What are they supposed t-" Vai was saying as she was sitting down next to her Mom, looking at the disassembled thing on the workbench, but then she stops short and looks around. "Um, have you seen Phaezeriel? I haven't seen him for a couple days."

"That doesn't seem like a fool-proof solution..." Sylvia admits.

"So we add to it." Her husband replies, leaning against a counter. "Kitty, if they ask all you have to do is tell them that we said we'd tell them when we thought they were ready to know. Then you can keep from having to tell them without fear of being forgotten again."

Kitty considered that. "Yes, I suppose that will work. It's completely honest, but let's you decide when you want them to find out about your secrets. I can do that."

"He is in the infirmary. Transformation troubles. I gave what assistance I could. He should be fine in another day or so," Ryleh said interrupting the conversation. "Good morning, Aananda. I see you've been sleeping at your workbench again. Do I need to place a guard on you to make sure that you take care of yourself properly?" she asked, exasperated.

"Mother! It's fine. You shouldn't fuss so much," Aananda complained.

"I'm your mother, fussing is my job," Ryleh said calmly.

"Good morning, Vai. And how is my youngest grandchild doing today?"

Nala stepped inside the shrine and a forcefield came ujp behind her, completely blocking the door.

"Ryuzo!" she called out, banging her fist against the forcefield, frightened. But the forcefield wouldn't budge. She couldn't even hear him on the other side.

"Who is the penitent who comes before the altar?" a hollow sounding voice asked. She looked around but could not find any source for the voice.

"N-n-nala Zamarosok," she said, shakily. "The Winter Princess."

"I'm good at finding loopholes." Jerak admits. "As much as I like trying to figure out what some of these things do, I think we should continue our tour. Where to next?"

"We're near the gardens if you want to see those. Not a coincidence that they put the alchemy classroom near an exit ," she said with a grin.

"No, I don't suppose it would be." Sylvia says thoughtfully. "I think the gardens are a great idea, Kitty. I'd love to see what's grown this far north!"

"Okay. Ummm....just give me a second. We're having a snap of unseasonably cold weather today for some reason. Now, how did that spell go?"

Her first attempt at endure elements produces a cadre of confused chipmunks. She blushed. "Sorry about that. I'll try that again. "

The second attempt goes better and she is able to cast the spell on all three of them so they wouldn't freeze while walking around the gardens.

Vai didn't know how to act around her at all, so she adopts a slightly more formal tone. "Good morning, grandmother." Vai says respectfully, "Did Ephebe tell you that you should invite me as well?"

She kissed Vai on the forehead. "I am proud of you little one."

"Approach the altar," the hollow voice intoned.

Reluctantly Nala stepped forward standing before the altar.

"For what purpose have you come to this shrine, Winter Princess?"

"I...I want to st-stop being the winter princess....you...you can do that, right? Th-that's what the old treaty said..." she said, nervously.

There was a long pause which made Nala feel even more ill at ease. "I have waited a long time, Mab's daughter, and you are the first who has come. Er, I may have forgotten somewhat how this was supposed to go. Sorry for the lack of ceremony."

Nala blinked, more than a bit taken aback. "Umm....that's okay?"

"So, on to business....now where did I put those things? Ah, here they are." Four objects appeared on the altar. "Choose one of these tokens. I can't explain why, but this choice is very, very important."

Nala looked carefully at the tokens laid out before her. There was a sunflower, a small teddy bear, a deck of cards, and a crystal with lots of sharp edges.

She looked at them, frowning. She knew this was important, but it was very difficult because she didn't know what any of them meant.

Ephebe quickly throws on some comfortable clothes and runs a brush through her hair.

"Okay, let's go. Hopefully grandma won't be too annoyed with us for being late."

"I don't understand. Can't you tell me what they mean?" There was only silence. She sighed.

"Well, I don't care for sunflowers. So not that one. I don't particularly find the rock appealing.....maybe I should choose the bear? Or the cards....this would be a lot easier if I knew what I was choosing."

Male Kobold (Adult Black dragon) Gestalt Sorceror/Oracle Necromancer; Champion of Death

"Ok. One trip to grandma's house..."

"ACCEPTED," the hollow voice intoned. The sunflower and the rock disappeared.

"If you wish to change your fate, there must be something to change it to. You have already ruled out two potential fates and now you must complete the test in order to gain one of those remaining. Prepare yourself."

Uh-oh, wrong place XD. The meeting is in the restricted lab.

Sure, why not? She can't hear him, but she's being deliberately separated for purposes of the test.

"So," Ryuzo hears a dry voice commenting on the situation. "Your paramour has rejected joining the summer court and serving Truth, which let's face it, would have been...awkward, considering. And now she will be tested by Mercy and Luck. It should be amusing to see the outcome."

"You know, the meeting is inside the lab, not out in the hallway," Keme said, interrupting Enre's reading. "Come on. We're both late anyhow, so that should prevent me from being yelled at."

With the arrival of Keme and Enre, I think we're only missing Fei and Genosuke.

"Ah, good. It seems that now almost everyone is here. We seem to be missing Fei, although considering the number of shipments the school gets on weekends, he may be detained in the warehouse. Well, I think we can get started without him, and one of you can fill him in on the details later. Unless anyone objects to that?"
