Today it's so quiet, straw balls roll through our threads...^^
what's a straw ball? you mean Tumbleweed?
interesting fact- even though tumbleweeds are a staple of Westerns set in the 1880s, they were just getting established in South Dakota at that time.
Shifty, so why is Countess keeping Pitr in the dark?

| 'Countess' Victoria |

            Well a couple of reasons...
From the outset, she couldn't very well have her dear friend Pitr getting himself fed to the fish by a Taldane Captain, so that Captain had to go before he got his men on the case.
Open and shut.
What looked MORE likely, was that Pitrs lady-love was going to be the target, and now Victoria might have a flinty heart of coal, but teh blossoming romance turning tragedy was similarly unpalatable... devastating her poor Pitr like that, just as he had (apparently) finally found happiness.
Once again, open and shut - the Captain has got to go... and soon.
ow here's the sticky part, had he not been offed pretty much straight away, one of the two above (or pops) would have been found floating in the harbour.
So how do we prevent that?
Well Pitr could have just gone off and pre-emptively gutted the chap, but then taht looks like cold bloody minded murder, and how is his new ladylove going to take to finding out that Pitr was a 'merciless killer'? Similarly Pops might have had a few honour issues - the whole thing was going to look pretty untidy pretty quickly of Pitr did it, and just as bad if it was known his friends did it (birds of a feather and all) and Pitr might well have felt slighted if he wasn't the one doing the stabbing... so he had to be c.ockblocked.
So then what?
Well if the Countess and her similarly hard-bstard Kirk took care of business on the sly then all the problems are solved, except what about Pitr and his lady love? The only people who KNOW are Kirk and Vic, and they aren't talking, if Pitr was directly told of what happened then he might find himself one day questioned - especially by the fortune tellers he is having relations with, and the truth is likely to spill - premonitions, read the Harrow decks he loves so much - frankly its just a total picture of disaster. But if he knows nothing, then nothing can be found out, and the secret remains so.
Similarly, if Kirk and Victoria ever get shaken down about it, they have such fine upstandign folk like Harl, Solaric, and Pitr that can vouch for their good character with a clear conscience.
So telling Pitr is a big liability, especially because of the company he keeps.
And besides, Victoria wouldn't do anything to hurt her boys, despite the fact that she's territorial and considers tehm semi-property (or perhaps because of it?)
So...

            @ Vicky:
You're really close becoming the godfather of Karcau, eh?
...or just a typical member of nobility in the Tudor image!
Probably somewhere in between.Attentive players would have noticed that Victoria has reached 5th level, and not yet killed anything or anyone by her own hand no?
That's been pretty deliberate, the Monarchs hardly ever get their hands dirty :)

ah, i see. the fickle finger of fate beat him to the punch.
These are desparate and dangerous times, and Karcau a dangerous city in a dangerous land... a cocky stranger a long way from home walking about with extravagant wealth amongst knaves and scoundrels... well anything could happen...

HOD folks:
I won't be posting again until Sunday evening (brief vacation, no internet). Can I trust someone to run Vaughn if the story requires it?

So I decided to take my laptop to the shop today. While I was digging around in my room looking for it, I accidentally stepped on it. Then I decided I should make sure there wasn't any discs in the disc drive, so I turned it on to eject anything and the screen started working again. I think my foot is magical.
Anyway, long story short: my laptop is back and that makes me happy :)

            Ha, great day today indeed...
Great run in the morning with a bright and Sunny day, got a free coffee from a store after giving a collapsed old man first aid til an ambulance arrived, managed to get a bunch of free cash that paid for my 1.5 hour Thai massage session and then an evening at the Opera (reminded me of Heart of Light really) - The-Cunning-Little-Vixen - the lead chick...smokin hot :P
So much win.

@garabbott Damn, that sucks.
@Shifty Wow, that's really awesome. Too few people these days are either too uneducated or simply to afraid to step in and take action like that to save someone. How is it though, that you "managed to get a bunch of free cash"?
@Zyren Hurray for bargains!

Ha no it was all above board.
I got $5 for giving a market research opinion, for 30 seconds of my time it was a nice start to the morning.
I then went to the shop, and in the middle of the street was $5.
When I got home there was a message to call back the tow truck company nearby, I know a few guys there. There was a three car crash I saw a week ago and everyone was ok but they needed a tow truck, so I called the guys (I always look out for opportunities for people I know). I didn't think much more of it, but turns out there was a $50 per car 'spotters fee', so they dropped $150 off to me.
So by just walking about I was up $160 (about $180USD).
So I reckon that was good luck for me, and then good luck for the old guy in the shopping centre that I happened to be along for a lunchtime shop. But hey then it was my good luck as the chicks in the coffee stand gave me a free cuppa afterwards (and some coffee to take home).
So I went to the massage place and just thought stuff it, I'm gonna get the deluxe pamper you beaut package.. a remdial sports massage, but dammit I want scented water and the tears of virgins and stuff and blew the $160 getting the VIP treatment.
Then I got free Opera tickets.
I have been on a winning streak of late, won tickets to Mr Poppers Penguins TWICE, a double pass then won a 4 pass a few days later... so doing well. Bunch of other stuff too.
On a roll baby, on a roll :)

Hah great I think I just transferred my last week's portion of luck to Australia...car broke two times (while it is new), sucked during most my bfbc 2 rounds, they only played s+*@ty music in the clubs and some auctions went really bad - this week though everything's already better - so watch out Shifty, a boomerang is to come^^

I was SUPER hungover earlier today after a crazy last night. A very frustrating, crazy last night. But then I had biscuits and gravy, chainsmoked some cigarettes, went rock climbing, and learned a punk rock song on the guitar and now I feel awesome.
I hope your hangover was from having too much fun :P

Indeed it is! Though I'm not recovering from it so gracefully as you, lol. I needed to go out and let loose though, badly. My best friend, her cousin and I spent the night at the bar and I out drank them both by far. I don't normally let myself get that drunk but for whatever reason last night I just felt the need too. We went to Denny's afterwards where I sloshed around two cups of coffee, getting most of it in me and ate half a piece of bacon. After dumping the whole little cup thingy of syrup on my pancakes and taking one bite I decided it was far too sweet and made me feel sick. So, basically I didn't eat anything. They brought me home and my brother helped me up the stairs (no railing and it was pouring down rain) where I managed to take a shower with out falling down in it and then put myself to bed. When I woke up again, I was still drunk so I decided to go back to bed. Now I just feel like I have a touch of the flu.
