About Meredith Nerissa

Formerly a simple gatherer who lived a simple life as a respected member of her village, everything changed for Meredith when she inexplicably lost consciousness and fell into a deep-sea fissure. Though she survived the strange ordeal, waking roughly one mile from where she had been gathering food for her elders, she has never felt like herself since.

Many tides later, she began to experience a series of terrible nightmares that would wake her screaming in the night. Despite her attempts at recollection, she could never recall what it was that haunted her dreams, much less confront the new-found darkness she believed to be within her. Certain that she was changing at the behest of some dark entity of unfathomable cruelty, she slowly began to lose her sanity. The more she lost her grip on reality, the more she began to recognize the emergence of powerful new abilities within her, particularly the ability to bend sound and light, as well as to command the water about her--or within others.

She kept her new powers a secret and began to take on young lovers via her magic, some of which were already spoken for. When her fellow villagers found out what she was doing, they branded her as an evil, manipulative witch and exiled her on pain of death.

Over the course of the following year, many of the villagers began to disappear. Meredith had begun her revenge. The village leaders deduced that Meredith was behind the disappearances and they sent a small band of young hunters to her desolate burrow to kill her. She ambushed the young hunters and used her abilities to bend them to her will. They returned to their village a week later and promptly began to slaughter their friends and families. By the time the hunters were killed, Meredith had made good her escape from the region. The surviving villagers never truly recovered from Meredith’s wrath.

Now alone in the world unsure of what lay in store for her and having nothing but her sorcery with which to aid her, Meredith now frequently surrounds herself with powerful pawns for protection.

In her madness, Meredith found herself inexplicably drawn to the strange and the aberrant, compelled to seek out the most alien world she could possibly imagine: the realm of land walkers. Not fully understanding her purpose or the unseen shadow that she is convinced haunts her every step, it is her hope that she will one day find the truth behind her new-found powers.
