To help me build a bit more of Terrace, I'd like your help.
When you have time, I'd like you to add the following details to your character sheet. You have the freedom to add any sort of event, building or people you think a mish mash city like Terrace would have, but I do retain veto rights.
I'd like the following if you're up for it. Think of it as fleshing out your character a bit more as well.
1. A Known Ally
2. An Unknown Ally
3. A Known Enemy
4. An Unknown Enemy
5. Notable location where your character is familiar with. Include which district and description.

DM Default |

That'll be tricky, i'm a foreigner to Terrace. :)
If applicable, then possibly people you've met in the short time you've been here. Maybe someone swindled you, or helped with directions, or defended you, or maybe a companion got whisked away with you and is not handling the situation as well as you are.

Trini Xibalba |

This should be fun! I'll get to it this week; definitely the kind of thing I'd want to sit down for a while with. I'm already envisioning the rival schoolmate and our frantic battle of frenemies.
The Random Background Generator or the rules it's based on may come in handy for us.
PS anyone else having weird security issues with the site today?

Trini Xibalba |

Issues with security certificates not being compatible or something. My browsers aren't happy. Someone in one of my other games was having similar issues.

Korunar Bloodaxe |

I don't have any problems either. Do they still occur? Maybe paizo's support can help? I've never contacted them, so I don't know if that's an option.
A little off-topic: How long do you usally need for one post? I'm not a native speaker, therefore I think it takes me quite a while. Usally more than half an hour, sometimes even more than one hour.
Ps: If I make some mistakes (like using words in a wrong context or having words in the wrong order), I would be glad if you can point them out in a pm :)

Trini Xibalba |

Working for me now. Not sure what was happening!
It depends on how much I want to post, but a couple paragraphs is usually 10-15 minutes, up to 30 minutes if I'm feeling really involved.
I hadn't realized English wasn't your mother tongue! When I was trying to pick up French, I would watch cartoons (that I had already seen in English) in French with closed captioning on.

Korunar Bloodaxe |

We're taught english, it's just not my mother tongue. But it's been some years now since I've finished school and you forget a language so quick if you don't get a chance to practice it. I'm from germany btw.
I had to learn french for 12 years but after not using it for four years now, I forgot most of it.

Ah, play by post makes for an interesting experience. Limiting information has an effect on player choices and character actions. It might be a good idea to talk with each other in game about who you (your characters) are as people, and the abilities you posses. I think this was a really well done example of miscommunication and assuming everything would be alright.
Or should we just do posts where everyone reads everything?

I think the time has come for Bently to make his exit. I've known for a while that he as a character is a bad fit for this party and I think at this point everyone can see that. Almost a week ago I contacted the GM knowing it wasn't going to work out and after some hemming and hawing and trying to figure out what to do decided it's best to replace him.
I did want to make sure that you all knew you never did anything to upset me as a player. Poor Bently is beside himself. He's had quite the wake up call and is most likely going to find more like minded companions. When I made Bently I was expecting a generally good aligned party and as such made a very altruistic character who would like to avoid actually hurting people at almost any cost. Unfortunately he was the only good character in the party and he realizes that your values are just too different from his. He won't try and control all of you... Just doesn't have enough charm persons...
Default is letting me introduce a new character who will serve much the same purpose but has a different flavor and mindset from Bently. As such Arnek Redding Gnome sorcerer and Pyromancer... Will be joining the group. How exactly the GM plans on having me encounter you is still a mystery to me.

Arnek Redding |

Out of curiosity....how did you get 9 languages at lvl 1?
12 int and 1 rank in linguistics, feat...that's 7.
The short answer is be a Gnome... and take advantage of their character traits.
3 Gnomes Start with 3 languages.. Common, Gnome, and Sylvan
+1 for the 12 intelligence
+1 for taking the Character Trait Etymologist
+2 for [1] skill rank because of the Alternate Racial Trait Gift of Tongues
+2 for the feat Cosmopolitan
___
9 Total starting Languages

Trini Xibalba |

These are the last two items you mentioned, right?
Daredevil Boots
Scabbard of Vigor
All of them are probably better suited for someone else than for Trini.

DM Default |

Everybody still good? Posting slowing down a bit, which isn't a bad thing, but want to make sure everyone's still having fun.

Trini Xibalba |

We've made it!! Exciting :) still gotta get through this darn cave, of course!
So I think we should probably sell the bracers of armor when we get back to Terrace for loot money, since they're only of mild use for us.
HP: 1d8 ⇒ 3 <- looked up the rules in the Recruitment thread and I can take average instead, right?
Skills
Trini can't tell what's up or down in this crazy new world, so she will make good use of that wisdom and focus on Perception and Sense Motive. Since our healing is currently limited, and we do a bit of investigating (CSI: Abyss), the last point went into Heal. I definitely want a heal kit next time we get some cash. I noticed that I'd gotten my trait bonus wrong, so another +1 to my Appraise, as well.
We may want to discuss the skills we take for the best synergy, but I thought those would be a good niche within the party.
Class Features
Fervor time! Touch healing to me or a pal, or a swift action spell on myself.
Spells
One more cantrip and level 1 spell. If anyone has any advice for good warpriest spells (I don't know many outside Core), I'm listening.
Other Stats
BAB goes to 1, Fort and Will go to base 3.
Before I change my sheet, is this something we are putting into effect right now or tomorrow?

DM Default |

Correct Trini, you can take the average instead. And the level up changes can take place immediately. You're sure to find challenges in the cave, and leveling up will help you.

Daniel Chelas |

+1 BaB

I switched that wanderlust for the trait Highlander, which gives me +1 to stealth checks and it becomes a class skill.

Arnek Redding |

Camping this week and cell coverage is way worse then I expected. My apologies for the expected lack of engagement this week. Will be back on Friday.

+1 Climb+1 Kn. Local

Korunar Bloodaxe |

I can't decide wether I should aim for a more tanky or a more offensive build. Tanking doesn't seem a big help in pathfinder? The HP regenerate slowly and healing is very limited.

Korunar Bloodaxe |

Oh, I forgot about the hp (they should give more time to edit a post if no one else posted something).
Health: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Nice, maybe I won't fall unconscious next time.

Korunar Bloodaxe |

I'm sorry for not writing anything in the last weeks. My laptop crashed on the first day and it took me until now to repair it. But now it works and Korunar becomes active again ;)
I'll play like Korunar talked to Cinra in my absence, he wouldn't ignore him all the time just to greet him now.

Daniel Chelas |

At recruitment, you said you'd head for lvl 3, and see from there.
But somewhere on 3rd lvl yes, when we're on a safe spot in your story, preferably.
So if you have an idea of a write out, i'm all ears.
Pardon to my fellow explorers, but i'm not feeling Daniel properly, which is something that's rarely happened.

DM Default |

To be honest, this was a bit of a large leap for me in GMing, and while I did a lot of prepwork, i may have underestimated the amount of detail that goes into a good PbP game.
How are the rest of you feeling about this game? I'd rather not drag it out if no one is having much fun with it. No hard feelings at all.

Trini Xibalba |

I started running my own PBPs partway through this one, and I can definitely sympathize!
I've been really enjoying this game thanks to the DMing, interesting setting, and great character interactions with everyone! It would be a bummer to lose Daniel; I really like Varric from Dragon Age so was pretty interested to see that adapted to Pathfinder. Maybe you could swap out characters?

Korunar Bloodaxe |

I enjoy the game whenever I have the time to do so. Even if I can't post for a while because I'm busy at work, I still read what everyone posts.
I don't know about DMing a PBP but I DM a group for my friends and I have to say I admire your ideas for this game.
It will be sad to lose Daniel but we can't force him to stay. Maybe the group can find someone left behind from the other adventures of Terrace in the cave (either a new character of daniel or a new player - I'd prefer the first option)?

DM Default |

Posting this to all my games, I have a late workday today, and can't guarantee a post tonight. Apologies.

DM Default |

I'm posting this to all games I DM for.
I'm currently in the orientation stage of a new job that is scheduling ten 8-hour shifts in the next two weeks. As such, my usual posting rate may decline at points and I hope you'll understand. These intense hours and school will make it harder to find time to post, but after two weeks my posting rate should resume to near-daily.
Thank you for understanding.

DM Default |

So I've been in thought as of late. It seems that while I have a decent hand with npc's and character interaction, that skill has a steep drop off when it comes to dungeon design and exploration. At the pace we are going with the ideas I've laid out, it would definitely take a long period of time to finish this "dungeon." And I don't want a to force a player to play in a game they're not enjoying.
Not to mention Korunar hasn't posted in over a month.
This is what I propose.
I can write out Daniel now so he isn't burdened by the game anymore. And if any of the three (four if Korunar returns) want to keep playing, I will do my best to oblige. But to bring the game back to life, I need to get you out of this dungeon, let Daniel play in games he enjoys, and get some fresh inspiration to make things interesting.
Or, if you prefer to let the game finish, that is fine as well.

Trini Xibalba |

I think dungeon exploration is hard in PBP because everyone's ready to stand in front of a door, waiting for the following:
-group consensus
-a less squishy member to barge through
-someone with a higher skill bonus to do their skilly thing
Without those criteria being met, stalls tend to happen. I might have to keep that in mind next time I design a PBP character for a game; I tend to go divine because the chances of recruitment are better, but the kick-down-door barbarian or ranger type could really lead to the smoothest player experience.
I really like what you've set up for us so far, our little group of plucky adventurers and the Abyss setting. I'd be sad to lose that, but I wouldn't want you to feel bogged down, either.
Maybe if we do continue, we could set up an autoplay-type rule where we will automatically proceed down a path (or similar) after a day if we haven't discussed otherwise? That might help us along.

DM Default |

Hmm....tell you guys what. As this is a slow paced game already, I'm going to ask you for a week or so hold on play so I can gather my thoughts and write somethings out. Daniel, if you wanna stick around or dip out I'm fine with either, but I feel I can get the thrill of play if I have some time to plan things out in a different way.

DM Default |

Will probably have an update in a day or two. Revamping some of my other games as well, and think this one should be fine to change up too.

DM Default |

Guys, try as I might, I can't seem to get this game going again. I do apologize, as this will be my first and hopefully only game that I have to leave unfinished. Perhaps I took too much too early...
I will be moving the thread to inactive. Thank you for your time, and sorry for having to wait this long before informing you all.
