Yay! Derail the game!
Ryuko, if you don't want to deal with this, let us know. I'm sure we can find a whole bunch of reasons not to go through with his plan. But I thought it would be kind of fun as well as a team building exercise.
Also, my character isn't willing just to let it go at that. He still is suspicious regardless of how much he intimidated the peasant. Something about this whole thing bothers him and he wants more answers.

You know, standing back and looking at this, this is truly an all star line-up of role-players.
Serioussly, we're 138 posts in and everyone's been phenomenal. I mean we haven't even gotten to the start of the book yet. This is silly and awesome at the same time.

Fyrek Orlovsky |

Agreed, I'm having a blast.
I will say that this is obviously where the adventure *should* have started. Who wants to miss out on a meeting with the King?

Dmitri Mavis |

Well, I headed back to my Cabin, so it's safe to assume I'm probably reading my book/dead asleep.
As far as Advancing the plot goes, that's up to Fyrek, Destanny, Blake, and Daen.
But no one's posting ;_;

Fyrek Orlovsky |

No worries. It's good to remember that this was advertised as a 2 posts/week game. That's one of the reasons I signed up for it.
While I've been able to do ~daily posts thus far, there will be times of the year where 2 posts/wk are all I can manage.

Dmitri Mavis |

It's been a crappy week for just about everyone in America.
There's a pretty good chance, if this gets silly enough, we aren't even going to be allowed to have backpacks anymore.

Daen Aheritor |

That's if he wants to be. We went against the plan because we decided to move forward and not whoever was after us to slow us down. It was only going to go through if everyone wanted to do it, and Destany was less than enthusiastic and Dmitri didn't want to slow down. Fyrek said that it was likely that he would just kill off the would be assassin with another would be assassin, and not someone that important we could get information out of, so it seemed like less of a good option because of that as well. I think Blake and I would have been all for it, and Daen is a little disappointed, but I think it was fine not to do it because you basically told us it wasn't going to work.
All that to say, yeah. We aren't doing the plan.

Fyrek Orlovsky |

What Daen said.
As for hiring the would-be assassin, It sounds like Destany is strongly pro, I'm moderately pro, and everyone else is lukewarm at best. So I think you should have him accept or decline based on what would be the most fun for you to GM.

Let's set up a watch schedule. If we do 2 hour watches, we can cover 10 hours of rest which should be good for casters and noncasters alike. I recommend random determination unless someone has preferences.
Also, congratulations on a actually started AP everybody!

Huzzah!
I don't much care when I watch, but I do have Dark Vision so it probably makes sense for it to be one of the ones towards the middle.

Destany Marr |

I can take last watch - being only human and not having any special vision, it doesn't really matter, but it puts her on watch in the morning when it's first getting light.

Daen Aheritor |

No sweat man. Work pays the internet bills, and the dental bills.
Looks like Blake and I get the middle two. I'll take either, but will claim 2nd if he doesn't care.
Also, would we be able to supplement our rations with hunting? I see Fyrek has a good score there. It might slow us down a bit, but it could save us money if we need to at this early stage in the game.

Ryuko |

You would. The Survival skill notes that you can provide food and water while moving at half overland speed. It's DC 10 for one person and goes up 2 for every additional person, meaning it's a DC 20 for Fyrek to get you all by with no rations used. No mention of if aid another is allowed but I would allow it with anyone trained in the skill.
Some updates on the campaign page, look at that in an hour or so to see them.

Daen Aheritor |

What's the starting date for our little expedition? Also, did the captain keep that 75 gold that was paid to the assassin? Did we let the assassin keep it? It doesn't seem right that we would have let either happen. It was our blood money after all. If we had that money we could afford more rations.

Fyrek Orlovsky |

So what I'm thinking about for spells right now is Entangle (if there's a good spot) and Call Animal (to summon a falcon that I would hope to be able to talk/bribe into serving as a lookout).
If you think the latter is too risky (because it would take a Handle Animal roll or two) I'm also considering Magic Stone or CLW.
My combat preference is ranged, but whatever works.
Any thoughts?

Fyrek Orlovsky |

Sorry, 'Summon' was the wrong word to use. I was thinking of Call Animal, which brings an existing animal from the forest. How long it stays after that depends on how well I negotiate. I can speak to birds once a day so that would be a big help, but it's still a little iffy.

Dmitri Mavis |

If anyone feels like greeting them at the door, I'll be happy to be the door man. We can have the ranged on top of the walls, along with me and daen on the ground floor. Regardless, whatever happens, I'm getting up close and personal with these guys.

Blake Cortelli |

I'd been hoping to use a bomb as a land mine, but it seems the only way to do that is to be a different Archetype, and level 6th, which is a bummer.
Is there somewhere relatively hidden that I could stand that I could nail them from behind with it?

Ryuko |

From my understanding it seems that the plan is as follows:
Daen hides behind the open gate to flank the bandits as they enter.
Dmitri stands somewhere out of sight and then blocks the bandits after they're inside.
Blake, Fyrek, Destany and Oleg hide atop the roofs to fire downward (Keep in mind Oleg only has one longbow to lend.)
Fyrek casts Entangle just outside the walls to keep the bandits in, even if they get by Daen.
Are you hoping to put up cover on the rooftops?
Once that's finalized we'll move on.

Would it be better if Oleg opened the gate for the bandits and led them in? That's more dangerous for him, but gets them to the right spot and might be less suspicious. What did he do last time they came -- that's probably the best thing to do this time.
I figure Blake will use bombs. Destany, can I borrow the longbow, and lend my sling and bullets to you? In that case I'll take Aspect of the Falcon as my other Lvl 1 spell. If you'd rather use the longbow, I'll keep the sling and use Magic Stone.
I'm kind of torn on the cover. Oleg's been doing repair work on the roof, could we maybe make it look like he's piled up supplies for that? Otherwise we're probably better off without, and hiding under canvas tarps or something? What do other people think, I don't have a strong opinion.
Other than those points, I agree with the plan as you have described it.

Daen Aheritor |

If they are flat roofs, then they don't have line of sight to the top of the roof. Lying prone should be enough to keep out of sight. If the roofs are sloped, you can lay prone on the far side of the roof, or crouch down and move over the apex and be in good firing position. Having cover up there isn't quite as important as getting a bonus to stealth from total cover. (the rules don't cover perception checks for total cover, since you can't be seen through it, but improved cover gives a +10 and invisible gives a +20 even while moving.)
Even if they did notice Daen, they shouldn't notice prone people on a roof, and all it would take is a move action to stand up, possibly a 5 foot step to get to the edge and then fire. They shouldn't see that coming.
I agree with Fyrek about Oleg, and will put it in my next post unless someone beats me to it. It would be best if they didn't think anything was different.

Ryuko |

Sorry about the time out. I haven't died, just had a really rough few days. Things kinda tanked finance wise and it was mothers day weekend which is an incredibly busy week for those of us in the restaurant business. I'll be posting pretty soon, just want a real quick post from everyone of where they'll be and what they'll be ready for. An in character post like Daen's would be nice but either way is cool. I'll be posting to move forward tomorrow, apologies for the delays.
