I really like the blood reader thing. It seems very flavorful for Niyut and also tactical useful.
Niyut |
Garidan should have 9 Ethereal and 1 Fire. I think Niyut's sudden shift would provoke AoO unless it is Su.
Gruskorb |
Apologies for the typos in the last post; I'm still doing this from my phone until I have real internet.
I'm trying to give a sense of depth to Gruskorb's items presently and do a bit of dynamic morality with him. Moves happen at the worst times, it seems!

No worries. Enjoyed your post from yesterday.

Could Truk choose any +1 weapon ability for the primary effect? Or would it need to be a weapon add on less than 3000?
If he wants the secondary effect to hold.
Any +1 or greater weapon ability. Really just needed him to invest another EE to the axe to get the secondary effect.
Valjoen_GM |
I think Niyut's sudden shift would provoke AoO unless it is Su.
It is the 1st level domain power from the "Deception" subdomain of the "Trickery" domain and it is a spell-like ability. So, yes it would provoke an AOO. However, it does not make sense for it to provoke from the attacker; only from other opponents. I'm not finding much discussion or interpretation on it. Let me know if you see anything regarding the ability and AOO's.
Valjoen_GM |
Niyut, I've added your spells to the campaign tab. Couple of changes: 1) they only work on mortal creatures... i.e. No sucking the essences from the gods. 2) other than the medium range extract essence upgrade, I made everything close range. I think if you want to extract this stuff in combat, you'll need to get in there close to do it. Risk v. reward. :)
Niyut |
1) Gosh darn it! My avatar killing plans have gone awry!!!
2) I just used the range for dispel magic/disjunction/etc. But you are the ultimate arbiter of ranges.

Oh, in that case I'll just take another base +1. Nix the impervious.

To advance Morgrym's Axe from +1 to +2, it would require 2 ethereal essences. We were referring to a weapon ability that was worth +1, therefore cost 1 ethereal essence, like impervious.
Niyut |
He could make the other end of the axe into a magic weapon. I think that's what he meant.
Truk'tosh |
Oh, I misunderstood. We'll stick with impervious then.
Niyut |
Impervious seems kinda bad when you could make it a bane or a keen weapon or whatever.
Niyut |
I'm guessing one Geugal's domains was Fire. What was his other one?
Niyut |
I ask because while I really like the teleportation effect would it be more thematically appropriate to base the secondary effect on a Domain that Gaeruhn can actually grant?

Oh crap, I was looking at the wrong god. Geugal's domains were Fire and Cannabalism. I'll need to rework that secondary effect. My mistake.
Garidan Vissir |
Considering Niyut's growing appetite for essences, though...
Valjoen_GM |
True, Garidan.
Let's have everyone finish up their leveling this week. Don't forget to max out your HP's retro back to level 1. We'll get on to Haemil tomorrow.
Niyut |
Would you consider removing the level restriction on same type elemental essences? I don't think it would unbalance anything since they are not as potent as a Life essence and there aren't a ton of them that if someone had 3 fire by level seven that there would be problems.

Considering the rarity of elemental essences, I'm fine with removing the level restrictions on them.
Gruskorb |
Regarding Gruskorb's essences, the 3 ethereal ones (golem, commander, and priest) will be subsumed by the master's whip - suitable as two are servants of a master and the third is a master itself. The life essences will be consumed by Gruskorb himself, for the origin of slayer and priest match very closely the souls within his body.
We talked about one avenue effects might take regarding the whip. For those life essences used on Gruskorb, he would be pressed to become more agile; he's suffered some heavy wounds and not been as accurate as might be useful lately.
Valjoen_GM |
@Gruskorb - note the increase in power on the earlier life essences. As to the EE's imbued to the whip. The idea that we discussed will be part of the secondary effects. You still get to use +3 worth of weapon abilities or give it a +3 enhancement bonus. Please let me know what you want to do here.
..Self
....Life Essences
......(LE1) Combat Expertise. (Secondary Effect) +1d10 electric damage upon a successful trip with whip.
....(LE2: Gnoll Slayer) - +1 Dexterity. (Secondary Effect) 2/day as a move action, you gain study target as per the slayer ability. Use your character level as your effective slayer level. If you already have the ability, your bonus is increased by +1.
....(LE3: Gnoll Priest) - +1 Dexterity. (Secondary Effect) 1/day as a swift action, you can imbue your weapons with the essence of flame and fire, causing 1d6 +1 per 2 character levels of fire damage from any successful hit with your weapons for 1 full round.
..Weapon: The Master's Whip (+2 Calling Scorpion Whip)
....(EE5: Bone Golem) - ??. (Secondary Effect)
....(EE8: Gnoll Commander) - ??. (Secondary Effect)
....(EE9: Gnoll Priest) - ??. (Secondary Effect)
@Niyut -
..Wand: Mysterious Bog Oak Wand
....(EE6: Gnoll Priest) Lesser Reach Spell Metamagic 3/day. (Secondary Effect) 1/day the priest's essence imbued into the wand allows you to replace one of your own known spells with a fire domain spell of the same level. Domain Spells: 1st—burning hands, 2nd—produce flame, 3rd—fireball, 4th—wall of fire, 5th—fire shield, 6th—fire seeds, 7th—elemental body IV (fire only), 8th—incendiary cloud, 9th—elemental swarm (fire spell only).
So, once per day, you could replace Deeper Darkness for Fireball, for example. This would allow you to cast Fireball one time that day, and this would count against your 3rd level spells per day.
Niyut |
Nice! I love it, and it's more in keeping with the flavor of that priest.
Valjoen_GM |
I've been at a Funeral and memorial lunch all day, and now headed into work to put out fires. I'll try to get a post up tonight or tomorrow.
Niyut |
I hope everything is cool. You seem to be slammed with stuff recently. I hope you are okay. :-)
Garidan Vissir |
Glad to hear you're okay, Valjoen.
I think I've come up with another fine-tuning for Garidan's build. I initially chose his knowledge skills because I wasn't sure if we'd have enough in the party. Malthazir and Niyut pretty well own that niche though, but I was loathe to drop them or see them unused. Cunning offered a bit of a patch, with a bonus to confirm crits against creatures if Garidan has sufficient ranks in the relevant knowledge skills.
Now, I think I've found just the right finish in the Kirin style feat chain: Kirin Style, Kirin Strike, and Kirin Path. For a tax of Improved Unarmed Strike--which Garidan likely won't ever be using--Garidan will gain some useful benefits against creatures that he uses his knowledge skills on. The feat chain suits the lore warden archtype as well, so there's a story angle that can be added to it, and I think Valjoen might enjoy coming up with essence secondaries--since these will all be essence feats--that tie in with the chain.
Thoughts?

About the new map, I have a few questions.
The "Savage Lands" stretched down the entirety of the eastern coast down to the forest right above the Leyrtisian Empire. There is no way on the new map that the little bits of land above Haemil are the all of the "Savage Lands." Does that mean the two big chunks above the bottom arm where Leyrtis now is the rest of Niyut and Truk'tosh's homeland?
Valjoen_GM |
I did that map last winter before Inkarnate redid their format, so I can't edit that map, and trying to marry the two maps was a challenge. So, yes a portion of the next "arm" is part of the Savage Lands. Also, keep in mind that the entire surface of the world isn't fully represented. That is, some parts of the world were either consumed by the rift or were flung out into space.
Niyut |
Nothing like a landmass being broken into four pieces (or more!) to spell the end of a culture. Womp. Womp.
Niyut is going to be heartbroken when she sees this map.

I can no longer access the wiki. It says it is timing out. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
Valjoen_GM |
It's been on and off for abut a week. I have verbiage to upload for Korlez.

No wiki access here either.
Valjoen_GM |
Yep, I cut/paste a bit in on Korlez. Still need to clean it up and talk about his part in the Godling Wars.
Valjoen_GM |
Not waiting only anyone necessarily in the gameplay thread. Just thought I'd make sure the consensus was good with disarming. I'll post the first interaction with the king later today or tonight if possible.
As a note, I'll be traveling tomorrow on business. So, might be a slow day online.
And next week, I'm having outpatient surgery on Friday, the 22nd. So no posts that day or probably until early the following week. I will be trying to update some the the wiki that week while I'm off work recovering. I'd love to get some of the cities, people, etc. updated... assuming I'm coherent enough to do it.
Garidan Vissir |
Niyut wrote:+1I hope your surgery goes well!

... That's an interesting way to describe it, I have to say.

I see you're in a mood, lol. And I don't think I can top your cheesy harlot simile, so I won't even try :D.
Garidan Vissir |
Are Truk'tosh and Malthazir alright? Haven't heard much from them lately.
Niyut |
I don't know about Malthazir, but I talk to Truk often. Currently, he is clutching his pearls at your rash speech, but doesn't have anything to add.
Garidan Vissir |
Rofl, I know he secretly enjoys the excitement these moments add to his life.
Malthazir |
Apologies, I've started school recently and have been trying to get back into the swing of things. That combined with how fast this game moves sometimes makes it intimidating for me to read pages of dialogue in order to catch up. Don't let me slow you down though, I'll get back into doing things quickly again.

Heh, just glad you're not stomped out like a fire by weather somewhere.
And here's Cliff's Notes for you: Haemil's king is a douche because Baerwynnd apparently pissed in his porridge somehow--at least, that's the vibe I'm getting with the way Valjoen wrote things out--and said we can cordially f&&* off with no new Hazard for our collection. But, on account of sacking up and helping his minions, please enjoy these lovely parting gifts, thank you and have a nice day, don't let the door catch you as you leave, goodbye!
In response, Garidan might sort of, just a tiny little bit though, snarked off to said king and stopped just short of openly declaring him to be a moron. Niyut, a bit smoother and calmer, laid some vital facts on his royal denseness.
Now we wait to see if Garidan just won the party an all-inclusive trip to Haemil's scenic dungeons with his mouth! Yay!
