Which of the Hazards (like which school) lives in Tyre? And where is that on the old map?

Valjoen_GM |

Tyre was from the old version of the world. That city has been changed. If you can give me a reference point, I can show you on the map.
BTW, I've had a new map ready for the group for a couple of months now, but the characters haven't proceeded to the point in which they will receive it.

Niyut |

Were is it in relationship to Pyrae? Is the Hazard there still the one that wrote the book on the wiki?

Niyut |

On the very inaccurate map given to us by the gnome, where are Haemil and the Iron Mountains?

Niyut |

We should time our flight to sync up to when they could pass beneath us. We don't want to start flying and then land in front of them.

Valjoen_GM |

Ah... Ghrezzd... Yes, he was the First Hazard of Tyre. When I revised the history, he became the 15th Hazard of Firsthaven. The ruins of Firsthaven are on the second arm clockwise from where you are now.
Haemil will be on the first floating land mass at the end of this 'arm'. The Iron mountains and beyond are in the following floating islands.

Garidan Vissir |

Valjoen, I have to ask this; can we equip Tacal with his own bonded items? Because he's definitely going above and beyond--literally, now--in his duties as a pack animal. If he's going to be dealing with this weird and dangerous crap that we keep ending up in, maybe we should try to improve his chances a bit?
Heck, even some vanilla magic items meant for mounts would probably help him out a good bit. And ant haul, something bearing that spell as a permanent effect.

Niyut |

I'm all for enchanting him, but I'm unwilling to give him a share of my essences.

Garidan Vissir |

I'm all for enchanting him, but I'm unwilling to give him a share of my essences.
Appropos of nothing whatsoever, I'd simply like to mention that the first step to recovery is admitting that you have a problem...
:D ;p

Niyut |

Don't make me kill you to reclaim your essences. ;-)

Garidan Vissir |

Don't make me kill you to reclaim your essences. ;-)
That's the addiction talking, not Niyut.

Niyut |

Though if you want to imbue your essences in his halter for him, I'll support your life style choices. :-p

Niyut |

Over the course of these five days, does Asulad try to make contact with Niyut?

Valjoen_GM |

No, she has not yet contacted you.

Niyut |

How much time would it take to pass through the horde in Niyut's plan? How much time would it take to go around the horde? (which your description made seem not the best option.)

Valjoen_GM |

It will require nearly a full 8 hour march to go through them. You will not be surrounded at all times but you'll be passing through multiple encampments and past the large bonfire. Going around would likely add another day or two depending how far you want to circumvent them. From Sivantanpisil's description, you are likely 2-3 marches from Haemil.. so you could get there within 24 hours if you march straight through with only small rests.

Niyut |

8 hours? Now that is a horde. I think we should modify the plan to use illusion but also go around since my tongues spell only lasts 50 minutes. We can travel as a patrol.

Garidan Vissir |

I think--I hope--that time accounts for moving in such a way as to not look suspicious, no rushing through, avoiding large groups and official-looking sorts, and the like.

Niyut |

Is the bonfire producing any smoke or is it consuming any fuel?

Niyut |

How many gnolls does it take to fill such a vast encampment are we talking tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands?
Would it be fair to say that it does not look like the gnoll population was depleted by the Storm?

Valjoen_GM |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

AsGaridan said, the time is taking consideration of walking the several miles to the encampment, a mile or two to make your way through them, and then several miles to get clear of them. You won't be traveling at great speed given that you aren't on a road and not taking a straight line. you'll need to weave a bit.
The bonfire is real, not magical. I would estimate 10,000 gnolls. Niyut, or anyone in the group for that matter, wouldn't know the original population to determine if it was depleted. You would know that they come from the Shadow Mountains to the north and the Iron Mountains to the east. So, they had some protection from the Shaping.

Paging puppetmaster Valjoen to the campaign thread. Puppetmaster Valjoen, please report to the campaign thread for meatbag control!

Truk'tosh |

Truk'tosh will put his life essence toward constitution. He'll save the elemental ice essence for now.

Valjoen_GM |

Truk'tosh your life essences are now:
....Life Essences:
......(LE1) +1 Strength. (Secondary Effect) Speed Surge: 2/day as a swift action, you may draw on the draconic heritage of the life essence for a boost of strength and speed to take an additional move action in that round.
....(LE2) Gnoll Commander +1 Constitution. (Secondary Effect) Strength Surge: 1/day as an immediate action, you may draw upon an inner power of rage and increase your strength by +2 for 1 full round.
Edit: 2/day on the speed surge. Lost a whole post and forgot to change that when I redid it.

Niyut |

I decided on the gnoll illusion. I know that when I post shortly after you, that it sometimes doesn't notify you.

Niyut |

If Garidan is willing can we use his mithril breastplate as a mithril bowl substitute if we cannot find one in Haemil?

Gruskorb |

If Garidan is willing can we use his mithril breastplate as a mithril bowl substitute if we cannot find one in Haemil?
Returned later than anticipated and will post after I sleep (so Sunday). No idea what it's referring to yet, but that breastplate should also suffice to make a plate, fork, spoon, and knife as well!

Niyut |

haha. The ritual to change the elemental type of essences requires a mithril bowl. A bowl we do not have. I was curious weather the breastplate could sub in for the bowl in a pinch.

Garidan Vissir |

We are not turning Garidan's armor into a set of dishes with matching cutlery! What the hell is wrong with you people, that you see such exquisite armor and can only think "How many eating utensils can I make out of it?"
But hey, you know what? Go ahead and use Garidan's armor for your weird ritual, he won't mind!
Especially not when the armor absorbs the essences Niyut wants to convert, because Niyut forgot that it's bonded magic armor.
Nope, not a single complaint will Garidan raise...

Niyut |

Who said anything about turning it into anything? Breastplates are concave.

Niyut |

Garidan, have you seen this feat? It seems like it might be up your alley.

Garidan Vissir |

Garidan, have you seen this feat? It seems like it might be up your alley.
I have, actually! It's a pretty nifty feat, though its situational nature keeps it off of my short list for Garidan's build at this time. There's a considerable number of feats I want to cram in before I start dipping into feats like that one.

Sorry, guys. I've been distracted. My wife had a heart attack yesterday and she's in the ICU. Everything is stable but they're keeping her for observations. So, I'lll be sporadic for a few days... sometimes posting a lot when I'm sitting at the hospital with nothing to do... other times I'll be quiet while I play solo-dad for my daughters.
Anyway, looking back I made a minor mistake interpreting my map. I'm looking back and forth between the rough map Arrington gave you and the true map. The encampment isn't a day out from Haemil but rather a week. They are a day out from the next big encounter, which you will be experiencing with my next major update. Working on it now.

Niyut |

Oh dear Lord, I'm so sorry. I hope she recovers quickly. My father had a stroke over New Years, and it was scary even though I was half the continent away and there was nothing I could do and no way I could go. I cannot imagine how painful it must be to be there and have to wait.

Glad to hear she'll be alright, though I'm sorry to hear there was a problem to begin with. But life always takes precedence over a game, so don't worry about us. Handle what you need to, and get back when you can.

Gruskorb |

Oh wow. Don't worry about us, focus on you and your family.
+1. It is my experience being present in the hospital with the patient during illnesses of this caliber ensures the attentiveness of the staff.

Truk'tosh |

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear it. I'm glad to hear it sounds like your wife is on the mend.

Truk'tosh |

Sorry about the late notice.
I'm traveling for work through the rest of the month. I'll have my phone but I don't expect to have a lot of time to post. Please don't wait on me and feel free to NPC me as necessary.

Valjoen_GM |

Well, you know the saying... When it rains, it pours? Well, on top of my wife's heart attack, Kansas City was hit with flash flooding last night. Luckily, my 17-year old daughter was in the basement, sleeping on the couch when she heard water. Must have been a miracle as she can sleep through a tornado at times. Anyway, our 2-year old sump pump failed and I got 4 inches of standing water in our finished basement... which we remodeled last summer!
So, I'm a bit pre-occupied. LOL.
Quick update on my wife. She's 44, 5'5" & 113 lbs. She does yoga, rides her road bicycle often as she can, walks with me in the evenings 4-5 miles 3-4 times a week and lifts weights. She did 8,000 sit-ups between Memorial Weekend and our trip to the Dominican Republic a couple of weeks ago. Needless to say, she is very fit and active. So, she shouldn't have had a heart attack! Anyway, it was her left anterior descending coronary artery that was blocked just below where it breaks off from the coronary artery. It supplies all the blood to the front of the heart. Having a blockage there is called "the Widow Maker" for good reason. Only a 6% survival rate. She survived. Undoubtedly due to her fitness. We are very lucky and blessed!
She's recovering well and was up walking around yesterday afternoon. The doctors are ecstatic. They say she may come home in the next day or two but will be off work for at least two more weeks.
I have every intent on keeping the game going as I'm really having fun with it. It is my primary outlet of relaxation and stress relief. I need to make a longish post to move the story along, and having a hard time picking out an hour to write it up properly. I'll get it done soon... might be today... might be over the weekend.
Sorry for the delay, but I know you understand.
Thanks again for all the kind words.

Niyut |

If Republican lawmakers hadn't ruined the phrase "thoughts and prayers," I would tell you mine are with you and your family. I'm happy so happy that your wife is recovering! Thank you for the update.

Truk'tosh |

I have returned! Korea was very warm and humid but I endured.
Thank you for your patience.
Also, glad to hear the wife is recovering. =)

Valjoen_GM |

Sorry for the delay. Yesterday was very busy with the wife and me being back at work. I've been working on a map for the current battle. I should have it up this weekend.

Niyut |

Your wife has already gone back to work!? That was so fast.

Valjoen_GM |

No, she's still home for at least another week or two. I went back this week. ☹️
