Alright, let's go with Gray's plan. Hopefully we get some good rest!

I love the hokey Schwarzenneger 80's movies and I got Robert E Howard's full compilation in a hardback for Christmas, so I'm really looking forward to trying out this RPG someday.
I pledged at the 30 UK pound tier ($44) which comes with a full color hardback core rules, PDF, and a few other goodies.
So this funded for loads... Did you stick at the Core book or did any of the other books tempt you in?
...and when are you running a game for all the good folks here? ;)

Yasmin al Akbar |

Looks like the big bad guy's AC is somewhere between 26 and 28. Definitely a tough guy!

Grayface |

I pledged at the hardback core rulebook tier. I'm reluctant to pledge more on a whim, on a game that I have little-to-no idea if I'll like it.
The content and expected quality of writing and bookmaking should be solid but the mechanics and fun game play are still variables to me. If I were a richer man I would have loved to pledge at a higher tier.
If the game turns out to be fun for me, I will certainly consider running a game here on the forums!

Grayface |

Jeez Murassa, that last snippet was sad.
*wipes tear nonchalantly*

Yasmin al Akbar |

Just reminding Ea - I believe Murassa and Grayface could use some heals.

Yasmin al Akbar |

Moved Grayface to where I think he wanted to be - standing in front of the caster.

Yasmin al Akbar |

Rallos, just reminding you that you're up! Also, I moved Grayface's icon 5' north as instructed.

Grayface |

Thanks for moving me recently. The timing lately has put me at work when I've posted in this game and I just haven't been able to move my own token.

Yasmin al Akbar |

Have to say, caster without mirror image = mincemeat for Grayface!
*Edit* - I just need to remind myself to wait until the guy is down before I say stuff like this. Last time we fought a BBEG caster, he waltzed out through a portal to Hell and none of us could touch him.

Grayface |

Mr. GM,
I've searched the gameplay and discussion threads and it doesn't appear that we ever sold the 'fang' sculpture, so it stands to reason that we would still have it on us. As Grayface is the one carrying the party's Bag of Holding, is it safe to say that the fang is there?
*holds breath*

Grayface |

Teeheehee!
Thank you, oh generous forgiving thoughtful GM. :)

Grayface |

I'm tempted to remove the 20/18 from my header bar and replace it with 20, as I'm having trouble imagining a situation where I'll be raging (-2 AC) and flat footed.
Sorry for the confusion.

Grayface |

I can't act very effectively at the moment. I'm waiting until others act so that a more strategic choice can be made for my turn.

Yasmin al Akbar |

Woohoo! We've gone so far! Thanks everyone, and especially to you, Zed!

Yasmin al Akbar |

Yasmin gets an unusually large number of new spells next level. One spell of each level, plus an extra 2nd level spell, plus Gaseous Form (3rd level spell). Anyone have suggestions on spells they like that she should take?
3rd (5/day); Haste, Gaseous Form, __________
2nd (7/day): Burning Arc (DC18), Glitterdust (DC17), Mirror Image, See Invisibility, _________, ________
1st (7/day): Burning Hands (DC17), Charm Person (DC16), Infernal Healing, Liberating Command, Mage Armor, Magic Missile, Obscuring Mist, ___________
I think a lot may depend on what Yasmin's next third-level spell is. Here are some of my thoughts:
3rd: Invisibility Sphere, Stinking Cloud, Fireball, Lightning Bolt? I like Invisibility Sphere so the party is invisible with a single spell; on the other hand, there are low level alternatives. Stinking Cloud is a good AOE effect without spell resistance and targeting Fortitude Save, making it an interesting option when I run into hard-to-blast creatures. Fireball or Lightning Bolt are classic blasting options.
2nd: Scorching Ray? Good single-target damage.
1st: ??
Any ideas are most welcome.

I'm taking Lightning Bolt as one of my new spells, along with Mind Thrust III and Thunderstomp. If you want blasting for 3rd I'd say Fireball then. Invisibility Sphere does sound interesting, though. Can you use Stinking Cloud without hitting us?
Also, can't remember, how are we doing HP?

Rallos Therinor |

3rd level...toss up between fireball and bolt...tough call
2nd level....scorching ray for sure....nice dmg
1st level...maybe something either force or sonic based? gets around most resistances

Yasmin al Akbar |

Thanks for the suggestions! After further consideration, here's my current thinking:
Level 3: Communal Darkvision (because I'm scared of the dark)
Level 2: Invisibility, Scorching Ray (most of the time it'll be "Freezing Ray")
Level 1: Heightened Awareness

Grayface |

I'm not the most proficient on all the neat spells out there, but I would suggest not taking a blasty spell like fireball or lightening bolt since your burning (icing) arc spell is so nasty.
I would say to take a utility spell (like communal darkvision) or non-damaging combat spells like stinking cloud or slow.

Yasmin al Akbar |

Thanks Gray! Next level, Yasmin wants to get the Improved Familiar feat to get a Water Mephit, which thematically is her genie familiar finally getting some of its genie powers back. So the familiar will come with a 1/day Stinking Cloud (albeit at a low DC). So I'm still thinking about whether the genie will teach Yasmin to create her own Stinking Cloud.
If anyone else has ideas on countering a Darkness spell besides Communal Darkvision, I'm interested. We haven't been hit by it yet, but I feel like our party is pretty vulnerable to Darkness. I suppose Yasmin can also just carry a scroll of Daylight.

4k posts... That is awesome!

Yeah, well done folks and still going onwards... and downwards...
To celebrate just how far we've come, I've popped a 'Those who got away...' and a 'Those who fell...' section in to our campaign tab... I've linked it to all of the memorable (in my mind at least) foes that you have faced... take a look...

Yasmin al Akbar |

Woohoo! That's awesome! I had forgotten how badly Skizzertz had messed us up.
Our vengeance against the gibbering mouther was sweetest of all.

Love it.

Grayface |

Grayface's version of "Those who (who's heads!) got away"

Grayface |

By the way, thank you Yasmin for going after the gem - Grayface loves the gold coins.
I guess I made a false assumption that the gem was gone? I didn't mention the gem because the GM post mentioned that the serpent statue was gone, and therefore I assumed the gem went with it.

GM Zed |

Yasmin can feel the aura coming from the gem / statue... but it is difficult to see how you would access it - it is within a recess on the pedestal but you can't physically see it - there's a lid of sorts in place...
From a game perspective, the statue / gem are super tempting and have probably got a value... but the module doesn't give any guidance as to how you might obtain it... moving within 5ft of the uncovered statue will result in a teleport!!!

Yasmin al Akbar |

There's always dispel magic! That and a large hammer to break the encasement. Maybe that'll be Yasmin's next 3rd level spell after all!

Grayface |

Mr GM -
One more question (hopefully before you're gone for the week)
I am considering a rebuild of Grayface into a full barbarian instead of a fighter/barbarian. I wanted to ask your feelings on that. Since we'll be at the Fort during our 'level up' I figured now would be the time to ask.
Do you have a problem with me rebuilding Grayface from the ground up?
If that is okay, do you wish me to pay for retraining?

No problem... No need to pay for the retrain, it's fine... are you going for a Standard or an Unchained Barbarian?

Grayface |

I honestly haven't decided.
I like some of the unchained things (in particular I like the temp HP change that gives me 2 HP/level of free soak damage when I rage, as opposed to losing those bonus HP when my rage is over, thus making some barbarians fall unconscious after their rage ends).
I like the original barbarian because the bonuses stack a little better with 2-handed weapon use, though I don't use my sword with 2 hands very often. The biggest thing I prefer about the old barbarian is the during rage you get a +2 Will and effective +2 Fort save, whereas the unchained only gets +2 Will.
I'm not learned enough to know if the rage powers are much different. I'm agnostic on those for the moment.

![]() |

I've actually looked a bit into the differences between the two sets of rage powers, and I like a lot of the unchained ones better. There's a lot less 'once per rage' or 'once per day' powers, and some of them are pure static bonuses as long as you're raging. I like mix and matching the two sets, but only if allowed.

Yasmin al Akbar |

Unchained barbarian fixes sudden barbarian death syndrome. As you may know, if you go regular barbarian, I think Raging Vitality becomes a near mandatory feat tax, or else when you go into negatives you just die horribly. The fact that you also get Temp HP that doesn't have to be healed is also pretty nice.
I think regular barbarian has better rage powers, even if they're often once per rage. Once per rage powers are often quite strong. The other thing is that with unchained barbarian, you have these stance powers which last longer but take a move action to activate, and giving up the move action is annoying to me.

GM Zed |

...yeah, go ahead and level to LEVEL 7 folks... I'm going to go ahead and post your journey back to Fort Inevitable tomorrow (where might you go first? That'll enable me to put a more substantive post together)... You will be untroubled in your journey back so feel free to make the necessary changes to your character sheets...

Yasmin al Akbar |

I think we should see Royst first. Sell him a map and hopefully the emerald.
