Egrkgakuth or better known as Egg, is a Wytchwyrd. His people travel the stars and planes gathering knowledge and technology as well as selling such things to other races. Many a world has benefitted from the alien beings, hell Egrkgakuth was around when his species seeded the worlds to spring forth the Kasatha! It was the time before the Pact Worlds, before the threat of the Swarm and even before Golarions first sought to travel the stars. For The Wytchwyrd business was good throughout the entire galaxy.

Egg was a man of multiple disciples his magic. He also was quite the diplomat and salesperson.Unfortunately, his powers and fondness for the lesser species began to show. He began to help a few races out giving them secrets and technology that they should not have been privy too. The race began to build up and seek out new life and worlds in small vehicles. Eventually, they fought another race and began to seek out worlds to add to there collective.

The Wytchwyrd got together seeking out Egg and apprehending him. They held him as they debated and other races and Wytchwyrd fought the race. In the end, the world ship of these aliens were destroyed. Egrkgakuth was tried and deemed a criminal. He was branded and nano tattooed. He would be unable to do business or associate with other Wytchwyrd.

For a few decades, he wondered the worlds in his ever-growing derelict ship. Until he crashed on Castrovel. From there he began to influence a local kingdom of Lashunta. He aided them in crafting a chamber, one that he would enter in hopes of turning back the clock. This device the Chronoskimmer would allow him to see the past and with spells transfer his consciousness from his current body to a previous one. All in an effort to stop himself from causing such a disastrous war and reinstate himself as a proud member of his race.

Unfortunately for Egg it blew up in his face and sent him hurtling from the past to the future. Egrkgakuth appeared in the future, the distant future.Golarion a world his people had visited before had vanished and the technology of this strange Pact World was astounding! It was a little further than the level he had left. Truly astounding.

Egg began to recraft his trade, learning the local technology and mixing it with his spells. In the end, Egg began to craft and sell a variety of spells and tech across the Pact Worlds. Eventually, he joined the Star Finders adding volumes of information to their library! From there he added more contacts to his grand catalog in hopes of amassing even more trading partners.

That is when he came across the idea for the Explorator Project. Having been beyond the known worlds of the Pact Worlds he signed up. Not only as a member of the Star Finders but also as a know and accredited scholar of historical and technological fame. So he donned his gear ready to help explore the space, and hopefully reclaim his status amongst his people.
I'll give a roleplay example tomorrow just wanted to finish this before I went to bed.

TarkXT:
Thanks for your reply!

You're right: More polish is needed. I wanted to at least put a substantial chunk up in one post for review! The background was to provide insight as to what made Ellion himself. Additional narrative not included in what was posted above includes:

The happenings during each of Ellion's "awakenings"
  • The circumstances in which he found himself upon each "awakening"
  • His service & testing of mettle in the present day
  • His existential ecumenism between the churches of Ibra and Weylan

That said, let me address your points!

By "first era", I am taking the liberty to assume at this point in the future, this may simply refer to a wider swatch of pre-spacefaring time for Golarion. I am not intending to cause actual historical conflict with Ellion in Pathfinder cannon. I can alter the diction there if you prefer.

Ellion may not have been on Golarion at all during the Gap. As he was in stasis, his body may have been taken aboard some vessel for safekeeping in a museum, only to have been inadvertently jettisoned when pirates struck. One thing I like about the Gap is how much unknown it provides. It provides the GM a great deal of flexibility in how to nudge characters to/from certain avenues which may conflict with their stories. It's correct to say the planet vanished with everything as far as anyone could tell. Did everything truly vanish though? There isn't an independently-verifiable account of that. And I'm not speaking in meta-game terms; as Ellion doesn't actually know his whereabouts during that time, he simply assumes his alchemy kept him alive during what he assumes was his time floating in space. In the back of his mind though, he knows it is likelier he was on the planet. If so, why was he left? And why did his stasis technique fail to be reapplied after the Gap? These questions are all things going through Ellion's head which motivates him in his quest for greater understanding of the cosmos. Depending on the resolution of these events (and the difficulty of determining the information in the first place), you have a great deal of pull in shaping Ellion's development with the party. I generally like giving the GM those ties to bind their story with the character's.

Those anomalies surrounding the Gap and Ellion are what drives industry trust for him. His actual life was spent serving various governments as an advisor, and given his only long-term motivating ties relate to discovering answers to the mysteries they would want him to find anyway, it's a safe bet he's not going to run off with some rogue terrorist organization. As you mentioned in the beginning, your setting might be considered comparable to Star Trek. With nothing else for him here and a penchant for problem-solving, Ellion certainly has the foundation of an explorer within him. I didn't write out the additional time he'd spent as a crew member aboard the ship with Mark investigating the alien DNA more than a few sentences, but it's a longer period of time than it seemed. The service would give him the experience with a ship necessary to trust him not to have it crash into the nearest asteroid, even if the vessel's creditors would want there to be veterans on the bridge.

I do think a very plausible explanation for Ellion's drifting in space in stasis is for him to have "become little more than a curio or a tourist attraction" like you pointed-out and I mentioned above. Having him awake though, especially on Absalom station, poses a greater level of interaction as Ellion represents a wealth of firsthand knowledge that is priceless. With the aid of some magic, inhabitants can see into the past at their ancestors' homelands - roots that were robbed from them by an incomprehensible cosmic event. On earth, it would be as if the old world simply collapsed into the sea and non-native new worlders had only one person who could allow them a glimpse into that piece of history. His ancient alchemy book verifies the authenticity of Ellion's accounts - as would his older genetic fingerprint. As he was in stasis during the acquisition of spaceflight and through the time of the Gap, this vista should not cause any conflicts with that anomaly.

If you'd like vignettes on his starside service between the time he was found and the onset of your story that would give him his stripes, so-to-speak, I can write those. There was only so much I wanted to put in the one post!

This is still open until the 6th since I think one or two more people expressed interest. If I see no further replies of interest or submissions tommorrow morning ill close it up and make my selections. With so few applicants I'm going to go with 4. More efficient movement and gives NPC's being submitted a bit more wiggle room.

That means it seems like time for a summary post. I believe all of the following characters have backstories (in order of posting). If there's a mistake, please point it out.

Zeni - Damaya Lashunta played by Tyrnis
Argent - Human played by Vrog Skyreaver
Thrask - Vesk played by Vitaliano
Karma - Human played by Goddity
Eivo - Lashunta played by MrStr4ng3
Korva - Half-Elf played by TheUnthinker
Ellion - Elf played by Dalton Barrowwheel
Phaelonna - Drow played by Critzible
Egrkgakuth - Wytchwyrd played by Critzible

Good luck to everyone!

I'm interested
My character: Rivet, Ysoki mechanic

Backstory, Buckle your seat belts folks it's a long one:
Rivet was born into the pilot seat (Literally) in the middle of a starship race (Think kind of like Trans Am, but on a planetal scale), to 2 Ysoki who did not exactly expect their child so soon. His blanket that night was an oil rag, his pacifier a rivet, and his bottle an oil can. He spent his first night racing across galaxies at top speed, and though he slept through crossing the line, it was the biggest event in his life. The prize was 500,000 credits and access to any improvements to their ship they want.

Rivet spent most of his childhood flying between star systems, though that is not to say that he did not have a well-off childhood, as they often had the best food and technology. 5 years after the monumental victory, his parents were blessed with another child, a girl who they named oil rag. Rivet and Oil rag were inseparable as children, though their friendly sibling rivalry often got them in trouble, especially because they were quite skilled with computers, and natural pilots.

One day their parents left the siblings with their aunt and uncle, while they went on a "short" (2-3) vacation. Rivet and Oil rag ditched their uncle at the market, and the two quickly found themselves in trouble with the law, after they stole a land speeder and went on a joyride through the market. Rivet was able to escape, snagging a laser pistol off of one of the guards, while unfortunately Oil Rag was not so fortunate, and was taken to the guard station.

Rivet went into hiding for a day, and when he came back he was seized by the guards. The guards told him that he had two options: 1. Serve 5 years of jail time with his sister or 2. He had 1 week to drum up 10,000 credits, or he would face jail time with no chance of bail. He obviously chose the latter and had to figure a way out to legally earn all these credits. He wandered the streets, and saw a poster for a big starship race, with a prize of 15,000 credits. Now all he had to do was get a ship (And win the race of course, but he did not consider that something that was in question).

Rivet returned to his Aunt and Uncle's home and found an antiquated ship, called The Virgin Hawk. He asked his grandparents to pull out a loan for 3,000 credits so he could fix it up. They agreed, and he turned an antiquated ship into an antiquated ship with the engines and operation system of a modern ship, and more, Plus an AI to help him, who he named Cortez. When it was time for the race, there were about 100 racers, and it was finally time to launch.

It was chaos in space, as ships crashed (And some were shot), and Rivet was told by Cortez that survival chance was abysmal, and he would need to find an alternate path. After Cortez did some calculations and navigation, he found a gas planet on the course and figured that by going through than around they might be able to get in the lead. He flew through the planet and coming out on the other side, he saw a fleet of odd looking ships, and Cortez was able to take pictures, and they realized that they were in the lead. A few hours later Rivet was greeted as a hero, as he pulled in the station, the first to arrive.

When Rivet came to the station to pay the bail, he also requested to see the captain and show him the pictures. The captain wrote him off as a fraud in that regard, but his son Roy thought otherwise. He told Rivet and Oil Rag that he had a ship that Oil Rag could use, on the condition that they would take him with them. The siblings agreed, and the trio's first destination was a place to research.

They made their way to a distant planet called lantern keep, and with the pictures began to research. After a month of research, the group was finally able to find information on the group, revealing a group of Vesk who believed that that specific galaxy should belong to the physically mighty race. With this information, they decided that they needed to put a stop to the group

With the legendary pilots in their group the trio was able to bring together a sizable fleet, and with the fleet, they moved on the ships. As they flew to the area, they did not see any of the ships. As they looked around the fleet flew out of the same gas planet, and took down half the fleet within minutes. The group fought bravely, but it looked like all would be lost, when Rivet commanded Cortez to hack the systems of the other ships, putting them into a retreat.

Rivet than had Cortez send the leader's ship a message, challenging him to a one on one battle, they would leave if he won and if he lost then he would give them his parent's credit code, giving them access to a huge amount of money. The leader agreed, and a match of duck and weave began, as the Vesk had superior weapons, armor, and engines. Rivet quickly realized that the guns would not do anything, and he needed a large attack. A very big attack.

Rivet Turned the thrusters on full power and began charging towards the ship, knowing that it is the only thing that would work. As he was about to make the impact he ejected from the ship, and the force of the explosion propelled him away, and he burst through the hatch of one of the enemies ship. The Vesk pulled their weapons and clearly had no intention of surrendering. With one hand he used his pistol, while in the other he hacked the interior security guns, and laid waste to the Vesk.

He took the ship against the others, with an equal ship and unequal piloting he laid waste to the fleet and bringing the rest of the ships back the entire fleet was taken out. That was when he found out Roy had decked Oil Rag's ship with cameras and had filmed the whole thing. Rivet was greeted with heroes return and was awarded many awards for bravery.

Since than Rivet has flown around with Roy and Oil Rag, while his parents retired (though they could be convinced otherwise). I think that the choice (If he was chosen) was probably along the lines of "Hey we need an Ace Pilot, remember that guy who took on a whole fleet of evil vesk and beat them, the one with the TV show on the DW, Why don't we see if he would be interestd in being our pilot

NPCs:

Probably Roy for a crew member (And Oil Rag if we have multiple).

Roy, Human Mystic: Rivet’s best friend and one of his oldest companions. He is a source of humor in Rivet’s life, and records most of the things they do (The space adventures of Roy and Rivet was recently renewed for it’s 10th season on the DW). His role would probably be a healer, and some sort of adviser.

Oil Rag, Ysoki Operative: Roy’s Sister and oldest companion. Her primary skill is computers, and is one of the few people who can compete with Rivet in flight.

Tongue-N-Cheek, Ysoki Technomancer: Roy’s mom and companion in intellect in his life. She was the fun parent, and the one who taught the kids everything they knew in piloting and computers.

Nihegak, Ysoki Solder: Roy’s father and the voice of discipline in his life. He was the enforcer of the law in the ship, and he taught his kids how to use weapons

I'm going to start making my selections soon. Those who havent posted already have until midnight est tonight to finish.

Im getting the last ship written up. Those selected will be expected to post in discussion and work with the others on making the characters.

Backstory:

The interrogation room is dingy, the magical light flickering over the simple metal table. The low, warning hum of the magnacles pitches up as the huddled figure on the chair leans back, orange jumpsuit bringing some colour to the gray room. A short human woman with an unkempt head of grayish-brown hair stretches her legs on the table, putting her hands behind her head.

"They let you keep that stick in your ass in here? You must have connections, handsome.", a mocking, raspy voice with an unmistakeable Akitonian accent raises from the woman's curled lips as she addresses the figure in the shadows, surrounded by two burly figures.

Leaning back on the chair, two green eyes dart between the trio. "So, lemme guess, hun. None of my ex-husbands or crew want to get a visitation here.", she continues. "Let alone can, the useless piles of surnoch droppings." The chair creaks as she leans further back, putting one leg over the other. "Nobody who wants me dead is going to go through all the effort either. Or have that s%!*ty of a suit." A smile dimples her face. "So, you three dolts must want me for somethin'. Somethin' all official like. Somethin' callin' for Wing Commander Bakir, heroine of the Swarm Wars, Savior of the Battle of Vorhal II."

The chair slams down on the ground, followed by a heavy thud as a hand jumps to the woman's forehead in a Stewards' salute. "R'porting for duty, sir!", she replies, before laughing once more. "Except not a veteran, since us dishonourable dischargees don't get stuff like that. Something or other about assaulting poor, defenseless Assistant CEO's in the middle of Absalom Station with cutlery, 'cause they were talking s@$$.", her raspy laugh echoes once more as she kicks the magnacles towards the trio. "Ta-da!"

The two guards shuffle forwards, strapping the restraints back on. "Or, you want Molly Bakir, the smuggler? Want to get something that isn't there from someone who can't be seen to some place that doesn't exist? Gotta say, AbadarCorp lost a lot of tax money when I was in the business. That, and a lot of blockade captains lost face." She shakes her head. "Don't think so. If you can get in here, you're bound to have all sorts of access to need an aging Akitonian broad to carry stuff for you."

Lifting her hands, she taps her lips. "So, it must be Captain Bakir, the Diasporan pirate. Not that many people have stolen a vesk Dreadnought and looked as good as me, doing it.", she sniffs the air. "I wonder if the captain managed to get garbage barge duty afterwards. Even if the Stewards finally got me." The last sentence hangs in the air for a moment, and as she speaks, the cockiness is gone, replaced by a brutally honest voice of an aging woman.

"Sorry about this, sugar. Not had the time to chat in a long time. I'll cut it short for you. Few can make a ship dance like I can, fix an engine like I can, or even spew hrackshit like I can." Her eyes stare back with complacency. "I want out. I doubt you want me for my gorgeous eyes, so you must want what I have, and you aren't a crim. Whatever you're doing, you're bound to need someone who knows how bad people think. Even if I kick the bucket, it'd be better out there than in here."

"I only got two requests. My gunner, Shh'snkikit, is bound to be rottin' somewhere around here. He can shoot down a salvo of missiles like I can shoot down gin, and you just don't lock up a Desnan like that. That, and it's entirely my fault he's here. Poor Shirren made all the wrong choices..." She speaks out, sighing, then looks up with a wide smile. "And two. Some damn hairdye. We got a deal, suitman?"

Hello, all! I just noticed this recruitment today, and I am feeling the Starfinder burn. Molly was a part of a great, yet short-lived campaign, and I've been looking for a chance to play her again.

Regarding her role, I am mostly seeing her as a skill-monkey and a Jane-of-all-trades, whether she's an Envoy, Mechanic, or an Operative. Theme would most likely be either Outlaw or Pilot, depending on what the rest of the crew would like to pick up.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Going through these im surprised by how many of you are convicts and criminals.

Kirk would give a thumbs up.

Picard would be scandalized.

Janeway would shoot you out an airlock while simultaneously ejecting the warp core delaying the Voyager's trip home for another three seasons.

Sisco would very angrily rail against even having you onboard and recruit you immediately.

I forgot to put it in my post, but Rivet's theme would be ace pilot, and role would be just that

Yeah, about half of us it looks like. Impressive count. Should create an interesting party dynamic.

Good luck everyone!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Alrighty! So my last ship is built and now it's time to crew them.

Truth is it was rather difficult as there were some stories I wanted to see play out and others I was already considering npc crew members to help develop them. Ultimately I ended up defeating myself and taking on a 5th which generally puts more pressure on you as I would like a healthy pace for this game as I'm exercising discipline and making this and one other game the only involvement I have in PbP.

So here we go.

Ellion - Elf played by Dalton Barrowwheel
Karma - Human played by Goddity
Molly - Human
Zeni - Damaya Lashunta played by Tyrnis
Eivo - Lashunta played by MrStr4ng3

I'll get discussion up as soon as I finish posting this so people can get to work right away.

As for the rest.

Thrask:
For a while it seemd your physical prowess and skills all but guaranteed you a seat on some of the farthest reaching and most cutting edge starships to date.

But sadly the project itself is public domain and for many having a Vesk onboard what was seen as a Pact Worlds ship wa s abit much for a lot of veterans of the Veskarium cold wars. The controversy grew to such a point that they had no choice but to remove you from the running.

Frustrated and more than happy just to get the hell out of such a disgusting system you found your comms and infomail being filled up with a variety of job requests and references for a staggering amount of long tours in far away places. Apparently the first mate had a few connections and may have felt a bit of annoyance that you were to be kept out by fickle public opinion. Needless to say you're not going to be bored for a while.

Argent:
Argent never made it aboard any of the Explorator ships. Indeed after his stunt and the variety of crimes he confessed to a few hard ass Stewards considered just arresting you and being done with it. Though it seems you impressed someone. It wasn't long before you traded out your dirty jacket for a lab coat and while a laboratory environment took getting used to you were creating a new generation of Explorator ships utilizing tools and techniques you had only ever theorized on bar napkins or long showers.

Korva:
Thank the gods! Whoever your mysterious malefactor was he had made some unbelievably powerful enemies. You had a plan, you had a disguise, you discussed a huge number of possibilities. you almost came to respect the guy. So when you went to the shipyard hovering above Bretheda you both walked off the shuttle with an impressive command and that special walk that people simply ignore because clearly you belonged there.

And then men in very pointy black power armor picked up your malefactor by the shoulders and dragged him off. You followed just long enough to hear his screams of protest and kicking halt abruptly to the sound of a single shot and a wet splat noise as they went around a corner. Turning on your heel and rapidly changing identities you took the next shuttle out and tried to put the sound out of your mind with a large volume of cheap alcohol.

Rivet:
The truth is when Rivet presented himself for interview the committee found everything he was telling them hard to believe. Worse was when you tripped over yourself a few times trying to recall facts. I mean how could you? Just about everything was going roughly the speed of light or so and there were lots of explosions and dying and you think there might have been an attractive brown furred babe in all of that.

Anyway, you got ejected. Not rejected mind as that wouldn't involve polite security guards picking you up and escorting you out of the building while you yelled back choice words about members of the committee's parentage.

Whatever the case some movie producer must have overheard because not long after you got a call to work on a script about your adventures. Within a couple of years the Rivet series would be one of the highest grossing movie series in decades.

Phaelonna:
Ultimately Phaelonna was rejected not because of any lack of skill but because of her excess in it. Ultimately she proved too valuable to risk in any operation where the benefits weren't one hundred percent clear. They're not in the habit in investing resources that can't be replaced.

So, not long afterwards you were given infiltration missions near the very edge where they suppose Azlanti space beings. Reasoning that if a foray into deep space is what you desire than it's better to gather info on an enemy known.

Egrkgakuth:
Egg doesn't necessarily know why he was rejected. It might have been his ecclectic personality or his awkward merchant's tongue. Egg was quite confused when the committee called him "a danger to galactic civilization and nearly any race he comes into contact with." Weird.

Good luck guys!

a, enjoy whatever adventures get thrown at you in the final frontier.

I appreciate the in character dismissal ^_^. It's got an interesting touch to it.
