Lord Manticore |
Can Ally lift the trap door? or Numair? If so, how big is the tunnel? Would a normal party member fit or would Ally or the imp be needed to explore it?
You would likely need a strength check, due to your size, but Numair could open it normally. The tunnel itself, however is too small and narrow for Numair, or any medium sized creature. They would be 'squeezed' in this tunnel.
Alliriyallin |
"I would hazard a guess that it winds its way under all the guest bedrooms, over to the privy, because I sensed an evil presence there earlier that left and went under the floor, and then out of the building somewhere. Probably elsewhere. If I were an evil innkeeper with secret tunnels under my floors, I would certainly have them go to every room. Could either of you open this? It looks heavy."
Ruul Spiritskin |
I'm around but I'm just waiting for it to be closer to Ruul's turn. As far I can tell we're essentially out of combat except that Ruul's victim hasn't surrendered.
Numair Nejem |
Numair will stabilize the bleeding gnome, then lift the trapdoor.
Numair will follow Ally down the tunnel, if she goes. He is OK with fighting in confined quarters, if it means catching the bad guy.
Imbukar |

Still invisible, Imbukar will move, outside if necessary, to try to pick up the creature he was tracking previously. Fly 50, Perfect, and can use Open/Close at will to get though doors and windows.
Imbukar will do another move north and then circle the house a few times at about 20' altitude.
This is interesting enough to Imbukar that he must check it out. He first reports in, then goes to investigate, still invisible and flying, now at 25' above the ground.
I believe I have picked up the Hanged man approaching from the north, carrying something quite dead. Moving to investigate.
Ruul Spiritskin |
"Ruul, dear, if you want to actually allow her to surrender, you'll have to let her have some breath with which to do so."
Ruul shifts his furious glare from his victim to Elen briefly before coming to his senses.
He gives a little slack again.
"What do you have to say?" he asks in a profundo growl.
Lord Manticore |
Would Reduce Person help at all? Ally feels confident that if she can get Invisibility from Azaurant, she can scout the tunnels safely.
Reduce Person would help Numair in this case. You are not detecting anything evil in the immediate area (other than the compressed gnome in the kitchen, of course).
Joshiah Bender |

I will assume that the feeble attempts to escape fall below Azaraunt's ready trigger.
This is interesting enough to Imbukar that he must check it out. He first reports in, then goes to investigate, still invisible and flying, now at 25' above the ground.
Numair Nejem |
"This hole is a lot smaller than it looked at first, Ally. I am not certain I can rabbit my way through it without becoming thoroughly stuck. Do you think you can find where it comes up outside and I'll meet you there?"
He pauses, listening to Imbukar. "Well, I guess the other gnome is gone. We had best prepare ourselves. As soon as the Hanged Man is done with his meal, he will likely come crawling up this hole for seconds."
Numair gathers up his few belongings, snaps his banner into the shoulder mount, and moves into the kitchen when a realization strikes him. "Ah, Digory! He's sleeping in the lean-to. I've been lax in my duties, distracted by this bizzare place. I must see to his safety at once!"
He will poke his head out the front door, and try to remember which way it is to Digory's shelter in the night. He will bring out his wayfinder for light and make his way there.
Ruul Spiritskin |
Ruul throws the unconscious gnomes over one massive shoulder before heading to his room.
He return a moment later, now dressed in his kilt, with Joshiah tightly bound.
Lord Manticore |
Even though Imbukar is invisible and flying the Hanged man looks right at him Shudder. Not good. :)
Imbukar reports the news to the group, moving closer to do so if needed, and then goes back to watch where the gnome is taken. He will also detect magic on both figures.
Digory Odgers |

You find Digory asleep in his lean-to, some sweat on his forehead, despite the chill. He is under several blankets, which might explain the extra heat. You reach his lean-to, when Digory practically leaps up from his prone position, reaching for what used to be his sheathed dagger (but is no longer there). He bonks his head off of a branch, and curses dutifully. He sees you and says, "Dear lords, you scared the curses right out of me. Are we leaving for the Desolation, this early?"
Numair Nejem |
"Pardons, Digory. No, not yet. We knew this Camp would be a dangerous place, but we stuck our foot in the viper's mouth this time. This very evening, we were set upon by our murderous innkeepers. Two are now dead, with a third in custody. I came out here because that man we saw swinging in the noose this morning is up and walking around. Undead, if you belive that. We're waiting to see if the death of the Bender brothers rouses the camp against us. I wanted to make sure you were safe, and bring you back to the inn. Gather your things, and follow me. Oh, and you'd better wear this for a bit." Numair hands him his dagger, then looks around carefully before heading back for the inn.
Alliriyallin |
Ally will fly back to the kitchen and ask Azaraunt to cast Invisibility on her. Once this is done, she will fly back and go into the tunnels and look around, finding out where they go, looking out for traps or hidden foes while being stealthy herself. She will find out where any entrances to the tunnel system are, and return to the ground floor of the Inn to report.
Stealth: 1d20 + 18 + 20 ⇒ (11) + 18 + 20 = 49
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
Elen Emerwen |
Elen will go get her dagger and crossbow and gather her things. The only thing she unpacked from her haversack previously was her lab, so she will leave that. I hope we don't have to run, she thinks, at least not without time to pack this up.
When Digory gets to the Inn, she will give him her spare crossbow and ten mundane bolts. "I think you deserve a chance to defend yourself if needed."
Macavity the black |
Macavity listens to the unwinding of combat, sheathes his sword, and discreetly follows Numair outside. After Numair rouses Digory, Macavity clears his throat to announce his presence.
"Gentlemen. Nice evening we are having. Nothing to be alarmed here." He begins and pauses. "Actually, Digory you are quite safe in your lean-to from the Hanged Man. He is prohibited from entering a dwelling, however modest it may be. But since you are up, why don't you come inside? Have you ever run an inn before? I think there will be a management change tomorrow." He mischievously grins and helps Digory gather his gear.
Ruul Spiritskin |
With the captive tended to, Ruul sees to Lavinia.
"Are you well Lavinia? It's a small wound but their blades could be poisoned."

Digory belts the dagger on, then checks it. I am assuming that you gave him his MW dagger, and not the +1 you also took from him. He then looks up,
Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15
Go ahead and roll Perception, both Macavity and Numair. Also, I've added Digory's profile to his character page, for you to peruse. The stats include his armor (which I think was left with him), and the dagger that you just gave him. It does not include the crossbow, that Elen just posted she gave to him.

"Oh, well thank you, Elen. I'll make good use of this." Digory looks over the weapon, checking to make sure it is in good working order, then slides the 10 bolts into his belt pouch.
I'm updating his profile to include the MW light crossbow that you gave him. Let me know if it was a different weapon.

"Run an inn? Can't say as I have, although I've had to make the acquaintance of a few who had. Is it really as bad as Sir Numair suggested?"
Lord Manticore |
It feels as if you have learned some valuable lessons so far here in the Camp. In the days and weeks ahead, you believe that these lessons may help save your life, or those of your comrades.
Congrats, everyone. With the defeat of the gnomes, you have gained a level. Please let me know what you will be taking your level in on the Discussion thread, so that I can update my charts. Also, don't forget to add a stat point for reaching level 8.
Macavity the black |
Go ahead and roll Perception, both Macavity and Numair.
Perception: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (18) + 17 = 35
Macavity goes inside with Numair and Digory. He shrugs at Digory's question and heads toward Azaraunt after his call.
"What have we here? I take my time, so I can call you when I'm in." Macavity kneels down and takes a couple minutes to examine the door and area for traps. Perception take 20+16=36 If clear, he will take out his thieves tools and take a couple minutes to open the lock. Disable Device take 20+21=41
"Open sesame." Macavity says to himself pushing the door open.
Lavinia Batharoy |
With the captive tended to, Ruul sees to Lavinia.
"Are you well Lavinia? It's a small wound but their blades could be poisoned."
"Not to worry dear Ruul, Elen has checked for poison and found none. This little nick will heal very quickly. Though I am rather perturbed that our hosts sought to do us much longer lasting harm. Were they simply not satisfied with our bargaining and sought to dispose of us and take our goods for their own? Or were they in league with the Harbinger?"
Ruul Spiritskin |
"Let's wake our little backstabber and learn the truth", Ruul suggests.
Ruul touches the prisoner with a bit of healing magic in hopes of waking her up.
Cure Light Wounds.

There are no traps on the door, and while the lock is a good one, it is rather easy to pop.
Calendir Elberen |
While the team regroups, Calendir heads outside, climbs over the inn, finding a darkened spot and mounts a watch with Lagash, to guarantee their nighttime activities have not attracted unwanted attention.
Ruul Spiritskin |
With a deep breath, Ruul resists the urge to break the little assassin in two.
"We'll talk about your survival after you explain why you and your sisters tried to murder my companions after we had an arrangement to share your roof."

Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
"Hey Macavity. Didn't see you there. Thats an interesting fact. I know I wouldn't want to test it in a lean-to, though. Good to know if we ever need to get away from it in a hurry."
