Slumbering Tsar Campaign (Inactive)

Game Master Lord Manticore

This will be using Frog God Games' module "The Slumbering Tsar" to run a campaign through the Worldwound (and maybe beyond?).

It looks like a good start Joy. It's nice that we have a cleric applying for the position. Let me know when you've made updates.

So far, Baha-who?, we have one person who has at least partially crunched a dedicated cleric, and one paly who has the ability to raise dead. I'l let you make of that what you will. I'll probably post an updated player/class roster sometime in the next day or so to indicate who has crunched what and who is still deciding.

Crunch is finished. I will work on background, personality, and PFS material this evening.

Yay short posts from work.

This looks pretty reasonable so far. It would appear that you have put some thought into this. I did have a couple of questions though. Your Disguise check that you added in, that was your +X, -2 for other factor, and then just a d20 roll? I ask because I will likely ask you to roll that sometimes when in a new environment or situation. The other question would be part of your background. If I ask you to join our group, I will like to know how you got from your native land (not your birth land, I saw that part), to Nerosyn. Don't type it out now, but give it some thought.

I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the buildout.

@Lord

to avoid text wall:
However you want to play Disguise is fine. I can roll it for each person met, or my group just takes 10 versus Perception to give a DC, which I provided. It's not high enough to fool significant characters, just unperceptive commoners, unless I use Disguise Self which obviously has a duration. The description is like Strider.

I was waiting to detail the last leg of his background to connect with other player characters and the mission. Since he was working for Amara Li, her last mission would have brought him to the Inner Sea. I can firm that up.

I don't play PFS, so is Nerosyn in there? It's not on the Golarion wiki.

I'm tinkering with equipment, but he's pretty set. What more are you looking for "the rest of the buildout"?

cheers

I would probably roll for Disguise whenever appropriate, like when you first meet with the rest of the group for example.

"the rest of the buildout" was referring to whether or not you wanted to tweak something between now and the start of the campaign (mostly the background, but if you wanted to spend a little more of your gold, for example.)
I've been spelling the name of the city wrong the entire time. I just looked it up and the city's name is Nerosyan. I apologize for any inconvenence.

@Lord
K. I'll keep tinkering and now can find the starting city. ;D

I'm going to pass on this, interested as I am I just got accepted into another campaign.

Will there be any time to create items or should I just skip any item creation feats?

Just want to say, I am still very interested in this but I usually don't have the hours to develop a char during the week.

I will try to put in something good on saturday morning.

Lavinia Batharoy wrote:

The assumption is that any items you (or someone you commission) will have been completed, before you reach Nerosyan for your current mission. As part of your crunch, please let me know which items are being created, vs. which ones are store bought.

I've looked at your character sheet and I have to say that your background story is amzaing! I have to ask how long you worked on this character and is this something you used from another campaign. Also, it looks like you're mostly done with the crunch, what do you have left, besides stating out the companion?

This guy/concept is an ongoing project in all honesty - quite some time ago, when he was but a simple draft, he managed to join another campaign but his background was nowhere near as developed as it is now - unfortunately that campaign is running extremely slowly and I can't seem to get him where I would like him to be :D.

For sure you noticed that his background is not finished - I mean, I feel like he has kind of gotten a life of his own - whenever I apply with him to a PbP he grows some more - I know he is "simply" a ranger, but I am enjoying him immensely, even if I don't actually get to play him hehe.

Actually, Lagash is finished, I simply haven't added him yet. Besides that, I feel like this guy still has a LOT of backstory to run up to the present day - so I'll just keep on writing :D

The Exchange

I'm working to revise Numair some more. With your points about sub-10 stats, I think I will shift Wis back to 8. I don't see him lasting in Qadiran faction without being at least a little bit gullible/naive, with all the shady deals they do (like the one in my backstory).

Question: divine bond for mount usually provides a mount, as animal companion. Usually a horse, but other exotic options allowed with GM permission. Will you allow big cat' as a desert panther (its my namesake- Numair means panther), even though it won't be large until next level. It would be more of a hunting companion than a mount, as dervishes must fight on foot.

Lord Manticore - a minor rules question that may assist in finalising my character's crunch and a simple fluff question that will allow for coagulation of backstory.

Would you allow Vital Strike to be combined with a Sunder?

Reasoning:
I believe that they are compatible.
Vital Strike states: When you use the attack action, you can make one attack at your highest base attack bonus that deals additional damage.
Sunder states: You can attempt to sunder an item held or worn by your opponent as part of an attack action in place of a melee attack

So using the logic that they are additive - as an attack action (a type of standard action) I could attempt to sunder an item with Vital Strike.

Faction Question:
Would you allow for my character's second faction to be the Mendev Crusaders from the Faction Guide?

Essentially I would see his secretive mission as attempting to ensure that the ruins are not exploited and that potentially dangerous artifacts are destroyed before they are returned to the Pathfinders.

If you need details on who they are and what they stand for I can forward them.

@Lord Manticore: Would you be willing to play along with the "Good Dreams" Desna trait?

Good Dreams wrote:

Your dreams often give you a hint of possible dangers you might face during your day—such as a fall, a blast of fire, or a poisonous snake— and this hint sometimes makes all the difference.

Benefit: Each time you sleep, the GM tells you of a dangerous dream you had. Once per day, if you have to make a saving throw against a threat related or similar to that dream, you can roll twice and take the more favorable result. If you do not encounter circumstances similar to the threat or situation you dreamed, this trait has no effect that day.

This is very sensitive to GM cooperation, but if you're willing to, say, give me dreams about fire the day before you expect us to face a fireball trap, this would be very thematic for my character concept.

My plan is to have her be an elfin worshipper of Desna, and her patron will be Stars rather than time -- losing haste is unfortunate but the theme is just too cool.

Here's the basic idea: she's a fanatic about Luck. Maybe she picked it up from some halflings she lived with for a while, or maybe it's just the particular aspect of Desna that speaks most strongly to her. Either way, she revels in using fortune to give herself and her friends good luck, and misfortune and evil eye to give her enemies bad luck. She will have ranks in profession (gambler) to reflect this obsession as well. She'll carry dice, flipping coins, and so forth to help her make decisions. She sees luck as the work of the Gods in the mortal world.

I'm now thinking that maybe even a halfling race might be better, despite the crunch not being quite as good. However, there's a reason I like the elf race for her.

I want to make her, not grumpy as you mentioned, but very very shy. Other than when casting spells, she has trouble bringing herself to speak; when she does speak, she stutters, laughs a screechy, nervous laugh at innappropriate moments, and is generally adorkable. She wears spectacles and whenever possible, gets her beloved Lyrakien familiar Tillie to do the talking. (She's totally in love with the little azata, but doesn't tell her because, well, an elf and a tiny faerie-like outsider, what would the children look like?) She'll partially sustain and partially reverse the elf 'bi and promiscuous' stereotype by being attracted to both sexes of many races but entirely too pathologically shy and scared of the whole concept to do anything about it. Like I said, adorkable.

@Lord Manticore: Almost forgot my other question. Would you allow the Ability Focus feat from the Bestiary?

This is Feral.

Answers:
*I'm afraid I'm not old enough to have played with any sort of blue/red box. My first experience was 2nd edition in an online campaign in the old AOL chatrooms. I played in a semi-living campaign called The Age of Magic.

*My favorite color is red - preferably a dark rich shade.

*I'm not into football but I've heard of both of those players. I'd have to said Teebow, only on the basis that it takes a lot of guts to display your faith like that despite all the ridicule I'm sure he gets in the locker room and/or from the media.

*Everyone else has said it. SNL.

History:
Ruul was born a runt among the minotaur of the Kortos mountains. Growing up substantially smaller and weaker than his hulking kin, Ruul was forced to develop a substantial intellect and cunning in order to survive. These traits, combined with no small amount of good fortune allowed the small minotaur to survive into adulthood.

Ruul soon found that simple survival was not enough for him. With guidance from the tribe's shaman the young minotaur delved into ancient minotaur lore and began praying to the uncaring god of magic for guidance and aid. Nethys, in an uncharacteristic display, took pity on the small minotaur and took him on as a servant and in doing so, bestowed upon him a knowledge of magic and the will to use it. With these new abilities, Ruul suddenly found himself able to stand on his own two hooves among his people and yet he was not satisfied.

With his mind expanded, Ruul understood what his future would be among his kind. Even if he rose to leadership, he would never accomplish much stuck within the dark caves of his home and so he struck out for the human city of Absalom in search of a distant cousin, Nuar. This cousin was a bit of an embarrassment among his own people, but he'd accomplished something few other of his kind had ever done - the humans of Absalom respected him, going as far to call him a 'Prince'.

Arriving in the massive city (a shock all on its own) Ruul stumbled along eventually finding his way to Nuar, one of the few minotaurs even smaller than he was. Nuar was happy to meet his distant kin and even happier to find another minotaur with a mind like his own. When Ruul explained his wishes for grander things, Nuar had the perfect idea - the Pathfinder Society. The illustrious group of explorers and adventurers had saved Nuar himself from Delirium's Tangle, a dungeon complex below Absalom, and he knew them to be a skilled and well-connected group among the many disparate peoples within Absalom.

After some introductions, Ruul was admitted into the Society's apprenticeship program and, for the first time, the minotaur was truly happy. It seemed his sharp senses and great strength were valued assets among the Pathfinders and his knowledge and skill with magic was something always needed in the more dangerous delves. Best of all, even as a runt, he was bigger and stronger than the Society's even most accomplished warriors!

Appearance:
Ruul is a minotaur bull with soft fur the color of cocoa and a pair of sharp forward-facing rune-carved horns. Although almost piteously small by minotaur standards, he is bigger than most humanoids and his frame is packed with massive layers of brawny muscle. He carries little beyond a simple pack with essentials for his work as a Pathfinder and a heavy hide loincloth. Strapped across his back is a quarterstaff the size of a small tree.

Crunch:
Taurian monk 2/cleric of Nethys 5 with the Protection and Magic domains. He's designed to be a switch hitter melee/divine support. I'll figure out full details once I've gotten feedback on the fluff. =)

Are you doing anything with the Resonant Powers of the Ioun stones? Would you be okay with Implanting Ioun Stones as well?

All right...

I had written a background, but I foolishly was writing it within the Paizo box rather than in a location where it could be copy/pasted into the box. So it's lost. I'll have to rewrite it some other time.

I can take solace in the fact that it wasn't particularly good, and it exposed my lack of knowledge of the Pathfinder organization and it's factions.

The crunch is done at least.

I used Craft (armor) in the construction of the following: mithral scale mail, dagger, masterwork repeating heavy crossbow, and masterwork heavy crossbow.

2. Faction

I spent 7 CPA on new prototypes.

3. Age

I was planning on keeping her at age 15 and playing up the wunderkind background. Like Doogie Howser with a giant robot. I definitely do not plan on having her be one of those creepy-savant children. She will be bubbly, insecure, and awkward like any 15-year-old girl.

Description:

Hair: Pink-Mauve
Eyes: Blue
Height: 4'11"
Weight: 110

You see a bright-eyed young woman with hair the color of lavender petals, tightly gathered into a pair of pigtails. Her eyes are ocean blue, with small flecks of silver near the iris. Her skin is very pale, with years of scholarly work evident in her somewhat pasty complexion. She is dressed in a tight-fitting courtier's outfit - a brown and blue-trimmed three-quarter length coat, with breeches, vest, gloves, and collared white shirt - covered by a set of glittering scale mail armor. She is short and spindly, all elbows and knees, with a wiry frame and straight posture.

In stark contrast is the 16-foot-tall iron construct lumbering behind her. A mess of gears, rods, pistons, and gyros, the metal giant has exaggerated arms and shoulders with numerous studs and striking surfaces. Its face is an opaque rectangular screen, with a pair of eyes drifting back and forth as it surveys its surroundings. On its chest is a small plaque, reading, "Mr. Pickles."

Personality:

No one would ever call Pinwheel a friendly young lady. Certainly, she is unfailingly polite to others, but in a detached, clinical sort of way that suggests she is studying your reactions more so than caring about your reactions. She has a tendency of unnerving adults who cross her path and an awkward disregard for people around her. Professional? Of course. Competent? Very much. Meticulous? Sometimes tediously so. But never friendly. It is difficult to know whether or not Pinwheel truly cares for or approves any person or thing in particular - most of the time she bounces from interest to interest so quickly that there is little investment beyond academic inquiry. She is cursed with being a bumbling professor while still pubescent, and her work trumps such base needs as human sociality.

Background:

Pinwheel is not this young lady's real name, of course. That is quite lost. The young woman who would be Pinwheel was found as a mewling infant by a dwarven merchant named Siv Firebeard. Returning to Janderhoff with a mule team loaded with steel ingots, Siv heard the cries of a human baby just off the road as he neared the end of his journey. What he discovered shook him, as the babe was wrapped in swaddling clothes, still clutched by the broken body of her mother. The woman, along with several men, lied dead near a ransacked wagon. Fearing bandits or worse, Siv quickly gathered the child into his arms, returned to his wagon, and hurried to Janderhoff.

Several months passed as letters and flyers to local human communities looking for friends and family of the baby went unanswered. Already having a wife and several children, Siv shrugged his shoulders and took it as a task set him by Torag for some purpose. Unsure of how to name her, the dwarven family took to calling her after a toy that captured her attention on windy days as her cradle rocked near the open window; Pinwheel. The baby grew into a little girl, and adapted seamlessly into her new home in Janderhoff, frequently following her mother to work as a forger in the city foundry. She played and explored through a maze of furnaces and anvils, schematics and blueprints. She took up the craft of machinesmithing, and fashioned her first mechanus at the tender age of 10. "Mr. Pickles," as she called him, has grown and progressed as her crafts improved.

At the age of 15, having completed her journeyman's examination and received the title of Mahal, Pinwheel was recognized as an adult in the dwarven sky citadel. Her first assignment was to accompany her father, Siv, on a long trek through Nirmathas, Lastwall, Ustalav, and Numeria to reach the capital of Mendev, Nerosyan. Having arrived with the caravan, Pinwheel has been tasked to investigate the city and nearby area for its potential as a permanent trade hub for weapons and armor.

I was interested to see that last feat that you chose in the Notes section, given your background and all, it seems 'interesting.' You get three bonus points for your answers.

By 'taurian monk' I assume you mean the Disciple track in the Hoofs material you sent me?

Yeah, he's a Monk of the Red Horn/Sohei. Monk of the Red Horn is the archetype in the document I sent you.

Quote:

He's going to be fairly standard by Taurian standards but Taurians are 'runt minotaurs' as minotaurs are typically large. =P

Ruul won't be stepping on Nuar's hooves too much, heh. Nuar aspires to politics and finery. Ruul is happy being a minotaur, he just wants to adventure, learn about magic, and see the world.

His crunch is more or less done. It's in this profile.

Thats actually a very good question. Yes I do plan on dealing with resonant powers, but I'm not sure yet if I am going to go with the static powers or rolling percentile. Both have their advantages, so I'll get back to you on that.

As far as implanting goes, I've always found it a little creepy in play. You'll have to come up with a good reason for it, as the procedure is pretty rare. Also, you'll have to deal with the stigmatism of having a rock sticking out of your arm.

To your mechanics question, it does make sense, and there is nothing that I found that says you can't stack them together. If your making that kind of strike, it makes logical sense that the enemy's weapon may be vulnerable to attack.

As to your other question, I'm just going to say no and leave it at that.

Either way, I will most likely be done with my character by Sunday when you get time to look over things again after recovering from your event on Saturday.

Not a problem, just let me know when it's all setup.

Sure, not a problem.

1. The magic items can be found here. Both are very handy things to have around.
All Tools Vest
Muleback Cords

2. Faction Stuff - I spent prestige points to gain shatter, spider climb, web, daylight, flaming bolt, stinking cloud, and stone shape.

3. To make the mechanus, first visit the Machinesmith page. On it, you will find that one of the class abilities is called 'Greatworks.' You can choose between the Analyzer, Mobius Weapon, or Mechanus. Similar to an animal companion or eidolon, the mechanus has base stats which improve by level, along with a selection of special abilities. I copied-pasted a stat block from another construct, such as an animated object, into my character sheet and replaced it with the stats for my mechanus. I then visited the Construction Points page, which provides rules for adding various accessories to constructs for an additional cost.

OK I see where it was going on the mechanus. It was the Construction Points that were throwing me off, I have never used them before. Thanks for the links as well.
