Jasmine Rose
Jasmine eyes the priates. "All we want is to go up to breakfast...come on boys, lets all use calmer heads here. Nobody needs to hit, or stab, with anything. We could all be in trouble if we are late for our shifts."
Since no combat occurred since I left, I'll be bagging the original directions, for the time being.
Seijiro
Seijiro's only action will be to go full defensive, but since he is armed, he can take an aoo if anyone throws a punch at him. Since he's not in front tho, that's kinda unlikely.
GM --- Skull & Shackles
Fitts sneers at Jasmine. "Nye, elf.", he says as he starts to move back and forth on the balls of his feet in a knife fighters stance. "Ain't gonna be no trouble at all, fer me an' mine." he sneers and motions for Seijiro to come closer and looks like he's about to get ready to slash at Allysen.
(He hasn't taken any action yet since Allysen goes before him.)
Rosie Cusswell
1 person marked this as a favorite.
The few pirates who hadn't yet made their way on deck look a mixture of of annoyed and worried.
The muscular halfling woman the group saw last night swings herself off her hammock and picks up a hatchet. "Beggin' yer double-f$~@ing-pardon, ye fat, addle-brained whoreson, but if ye don't move yer two-ton arse outta me twelve pint way, I'll be makin' a eunuch outta ye, ye pig-faced, lard-brained, syphilitic gobshyte!"
Rosie rolls 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13 for Initiative.
Seijiro
Seijiro lofts a single eyebrow at Rosie, then breaks out into a hearty laugh. He watches Fitts for his reaction. And readies himself for the possibility of a fight nonetheless. He speaks softly but with a hint of menace in his voice. "You heard the lady, knife-boy, move outta the way." He takes a more offensive stance.
intimidate 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Jasmine Rose
Looking around to see if the other two, Jaundiced Jape and Slippery Sy Lonegan, have retreated back up the stairwell. Finally, stopping to sneer at Fitts, "You are all talk with your blade...I'm just an Elf witch...step up and teach me an lesson with your fist or are you afraid that I bit? Do you really want to play with with a deranged witch..., risk a curse...letting out a wicked laughter."Trying to bait him forward to see if he slips and to provide Allysen some run to scuttle around.
Intimidate: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
GM --- Skull & Shackles
Fitts looks to Seijiro then to Rosie, then to Jasmine and clenches his teeth, his face an ugly shade of red. "Alright. Alright, din' mean nuthin'. Just a bit o' fun..". He steps back slowly and sheathes hid dagger, muttering something under his breath as he makes his way back up the stairs.
Everyone receives 200 XP
Rosie Cusswell
"White liver'd cod-plougher! Scourge's lil' pet arselicker!", Rosie calls out after him. She snorts in annoyance and puts her hatchet in her belt before wrapping a red silk scarf around her neck. "Don't just stand there gawking. Up on deck before ye get lashed! Didn't look like ye enjoyed it last night."
Jasmine Rose
Jasmine will take a bit of time and cast Prestidigitation, twice to speed up the process, cleaning the area where the grease spell covered.
Nodding aprecitation to Rosie and the others. Hurrying up the stairs thereafter.
Jasmine Rose
Grease can be dispelled by the caster as a standard action, so you don't have to take more than a few seconds to wave it away.
I see it does have the "D" behind it. Not use to having to clean up after myself. Ha
Jasmine Rose
"Well, the crew has an idea about us now...not sure if that is good or bad...but Scourge definately, knows by now." Getting to the top of the stairs and making here way to food line and then onto deck.
Seijiro
Seijiro tosses the belaying pin back where he found it and heads up the stairs for breakfast and the days job, whatever it entails. Bit o' fun, indeed. I am not amused.
Amerdan Stormspeaker
Amerdan brushes past them, not concealing the fact that he's studying each of their faces as he walks by.
"We should not jump to conclusions just yet," he says to Jasmine, "We do not know how much or how little the others know. There is no sense in worrying...yet."
Allysen
Allysen scurries up the stairs. She doesn't say anything but she does note their faces.
Stay clear o' 'em. Last thing I need is reason fer 'em to put a noose 'round me neck.
Mister Plugg
Day Two on the Wormwood
Heading: North, across Jeopardy Bay
Weather: Clear
Mister Plugg starts doling out the day's work to everyone and you all notice Scourge watching you and snarling under his breath at Fitts who looks chastised and flecks his hate filled eyes towards your group.
"...Amerdan. you'll be swabbing the decks today. Jasmine, since you managed to do an adequate job yesterday, you'll be running messages again. Sandara, you're on rope work today.", he turns his attention towards Seijiro. "You'll be repairing the rigging today. Rosie will be on lookout. Keep your eyes peeled, halfling, or you'll end up like the one with the foolish name here." He turns his attention to Allysen. "Report to the galley. Ambrose has managed to stay sober today and will have work for you.
Amerdan, swabbing the decks requires a successful DC 10 Strength or Constitution check. Failing the check results in being fatigued at the end of the shift. Jasmine, same rules apply as last time. Seijiro, repairing the rigging requires a DC 10 Climb check followed by a DC 10 Profession (sailor) or Dexterity check.
Also, everyone receives another 100 XP for completing your first day
Amerdan Stormspeaker
Amerdan works diligently as he did the day before, happy to be on deck instead of in the bilges today.
I reread the rules you posted for working diligently and it just said "any one check", so I'm going to assume that my first instinct was actually correct and that the bonus can be applied to ability checks.
Strength check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Constitution check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Looks like I successfully complete my task, but I'll be fatigued for the rest of the day.
Jasmine Rose
Jasmine is going to visit the cook, Fishgut's, and try to influence him today, while running the messsages around the ship.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
When she arrives at the galley, she will engage Fishguts, if he is there, in conversation and attempt to persuade him to give her Flotsam. She will flirt with him, giggling at his gestures and comments.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
As far as her fatigue.
Constitution: 1d20 ⇒ 2 Jasmine is pooped.
Jasmine Rose
Indeed it can. I was wrong for thinking it meant "skill check" (Sorry Jasmine). The curse of being the GM. So many things to keep track of. Much easier in a PbP, but it still happens!
Don't worry, it happens.
Jasmine Rose
Jasmine, we'll get to that RP once Allysen makes an appearance again. However, you've charmed the cook quite a bit (Indifferent to Helpful) and he'll be more than happy to give you Flotsam back.
All the flattery exhausted her.
Seijiro
Seijiro spends his day working pretty hard at the task of repairing the rigging. I am not risking another lashing like yesterday, he thinks, and puts extra effort into his work with the rigging. He does keep an eye on Plugg and Scourge and their toadies thru the day from time to time from up in the rigging, but not enough effort into that to risk doing a poor job.
climb check 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25

gah, didn't need to anyway with those rolls, sigh, oh well

Upon watching them from the rigging as you repair the ropes you do get the sense that while Plugg is a right sadistic bastard, he's genuinely concerned about discipline on the ship but little else. Scourge, on the other hand, is a cowardly little man that spends most of his day haranguing the male sailors and creepily flirting with the female ones. All except for Rosie Cusswell and Sandara Quinn. He especially has hatred in his eyes for the Besmaran priestess and the feeling is obviously mutual. The sailors that surround the boatswain are a rough bunch of sycophants and toadies, but every one of them looks like a dangerous coward. There are seven in total that are especially in Scourge's good graces.
Ambrose "Fishguts" Kroop
Allysen just nods her head and heads off to the galley.
"Cook's mate reportin', Mister Kroop"
Sorry had some work around the house to finish.
She arrives in the galley and sees Ambrose sitting at a table with a cask and two mugs.
"Ahh, Alyssen. On time. Yer already doin' better th'n the last cook's mate.", he grins. "T'day there ain't any special tasks fer us so we're gonna spend a wee bit o' time just lazin' about 'ere, drink n' talk." He pours out a small cup of rum for her. "Sit! Sit! This ain't a trick, lass. I ain't the hardass that Plugg is."
He downs his cup in a few gulps and pours himself some more.
You got the best "job" of the day. Sit, drink and talk with the cook before you guys cobble something together for dinner. You must drink an additional rum ration but you get two morning ship actions today.
Jasmine Rose
Although extremely tired from the heat of the day running between deck, Jasmine is quite happy with having Flotsam back at her side. She runs her long thing fingers under the dodo's beak, gently wiggling and waggling her nail, finding the perfect spot. Flotsam's malformed wings flutter in response.
Allysen
Allysen waves the rum away and shakes her head.
"Forgive me rudeness, but after last night, I'm afraid I don't have much of a stomach fer rum this mornin'."
She takes a seat and turns it to face the cook.
"But me ears are hungerin' fer some new stories. Surely ye 'ave a tale or three that's worth tellin'."
Allysen listens intently to the cook as he tells any tales he has and even shares a few of her own, until it's time to start cooking supper.
Ambrose "Fishguts" Kroop
After telling an amusing tale involving one of his mates at sea falling in love with what he thought was a mermaid, but was actually a woman posing as one to get him to "sacrifice" treasure to her sea gods, he finishes his cup and looks out the porthole.
"Is poison, this ship is.", he says suddenly. "But don' let anyone 'ear you say it aloud. Th' 'ull listens, see, an' the cap'n 'ears i'all. Poison, the Wormwood is, though, rotten t' th' core.", he pours himself another drink. "Ye'll not mee' a more nasty, sour piece o' work than Cap'n 'Arrigan in all yer days at sea, an' 'is crew be the same, 'specially the First Mate, Mr. Plugg. Vicious lil' sod 'e is. E'd take 'is own mother's liver to th' butcher to make pies wit', 'e would. But they leave me alone, mostly. They know I can't 'arm 'em." He suddenly looks very sullen and walks over to a large, black cockerel that Allysen knows he calls "Black-Hearted Bezebel" and is his favorite bird of the bunch. He picks the bird up and perches it on his shoulder. "Well, enough 'o tha', lass. Where ye from 'fore ye were snatched up?"
At that moment, Jasmine walks into the galley, looking for her beloved Flotsam.
Allysen, are you going to take any ship actions? Normally you'd get two for drinking with him but since you're opting out of that part, you only get one.
Hijiro
Hijiro tries to chat up other riggers during the day from time to time regarding the officers - who is who exactly (other than Harrigan, Plugg and Scourge) and what are their relationships to each other.
diplomacy 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
GM --- Skull & Shackles
You learn that the woman who speaks most with the captain is Peppery Longfarthing, she's the ship's sailing master, a mage of some power and one of Harrigan's oldest friends. The ship's carpenter, and surgeon, is Habbly Quarne, commonly referred to among the crew as the "Stitchman". Not much is known about him beyond that he's a surly one who doesn't talk about himself, but is excellent at his trade. Kipper and Patch Patchsalt, the gunner's mate and boatswain's mate respectively, are both extreme bootlickers that are never far from Master Scourge. Lastly you hear about "Owlbear", a hulking simpleton that Plugg keeps chained in the middle hold and pulls out to "take care of problems".
Jasmine Rose
Besides being flirtatious with Kroop, complimentary and giggly, she would be happy to chit chat with both head cook and his new assistant. Jasmine would listen, more than speak, and occasionally scratch Flotsam's beak.
She would tell a story, "about the crew of the famed pirate ship "The Rose", who once ate a dodo and suffered the wrath of Gozreh himself. The story goes like this,
Clearing her throat, “There was once a pirate ship commanded by a Berlon Lanliss, whose crew tempted fate one day when they kill Gozreh's favorite bird, the blessed dodo?” Jasmine's voice rising a bit louder to ensure Kroop's attention is on her, “Ye know, to kill a dodo is beggin’ for a dead calm from Gozreh himself.” Pausing long enough to make sure she has eye contact with cook.
"Later that day, after the dodo soup "The Rose" was chased by three Cheliax warships and just as she was slipping by, Gozreh himself created the dead calm. We all know that a dead calm is a curse of a sailing ship, especially when being pursued by warships with oars." Nodding her head, "that be the death of "The Rose." And the name Lanliss died that day too. Only a few survivors made it out to tell the story of the dodo soup, and the curse of Gozreh."
Bluff: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14There are hints and fragments of the truth thrown in that story. The Rose being her dad's ship, he did change his last name, the Cheliax warships, she added the curse of the dodo for good measure in case the crew wants to kill the bird. Nothing like having the cook possibly talking about it being a bad luck to kill a dodo.
Jasmine Rose
After swapping tales with Fishguts, Jasmine would ask, " What about Cut-Throat Grok, and his "Shop, she runs. What can you tell us about that one? And how about Master Gunner Krine, what news of her?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Allysen
No other actions. I'm trying to RP Allysen's attitude of keeping her head down and looking for the first opportunity to jump ship. I know that isn't exactly in the team spirit, but she's not exactly a team player. She values her freedom and her life above all else.
Allysen's expression goes from one of laughter to one of concern and worry as Kroop talks about the Wormwood being poison. It falls even further when he asks her where she came from.
"Ilizmagorti, the Scum Tide City. I 'ad just put in at Port Peril. Thought I'd celebrate me birthday a little early. Next thin' I know, I've been brained with an oar and wakin' up a 'ell o' a 'eadache on an unfamiliar ship an' findin' out I've been press-ganged."
She gives a snort of laughter that had nothing to do with humor.
"'Elluva way to spend a birthday ain't it. Fallin' off tha riggin'. Gettin' whipped fer not drinkin' some rum."
Ambrose "Fishguts" Kroop
"Tha's a poor run o' luck, lass.", he replies and scratches under Black-Hearted Bezebel's beak. "Keep yer 'ead down, do yer work an' things got a better chance o' bein' smooth sailin'."
Ambrose is amused enough by Jasmine's story, and charmed enough by her flirting "If I was twenty years younger n' fourty pounds lighter, I'd take ye up onnat..." that he's now Helpful. If he's around whenever anyone is trying to influence an NPC (ie. he's not drunk), you can receive a +2 bonus on your check as he speaks up for you. You can also borrow items and money from him (within reason).
Allysen, you get the sense that he has more in common with your situation than he does with the other officers.
Ambrose "Fishguts" Kroop
After swapping tales with Fishguts, Jasmine would ask, " What about Cut-Throat Grok, and his "Shop, she runs. What can you tell us about that one? And how about Master Gunner Krine, what news of her?"
[dice=Diplomacy]1d20+6
"Grok? She's a good one. Only person I'd say be a friend on th' ship t'me. The quart'rmaster's stores b'long te the cap'n, but everythin' 'as a price 'ere. Grok'll sell ye any loot ya need.", he finishes off his rum and thinks. "Master Gunner Krine? Handsome lass, angry though. Lost that leg on an errant shot from one o' her machines. Good at 'er job an' got quite a tongue on 'er. Loves ta fight n' drink."
GM --- Skull & Shackles
From what I can tell everyone has completed their work, and nobody on the crew has reason to be tied to the mainmast for a lashing... today. Allysen helps 'Fishguts' prepare the evening meal which is brought up after dusk. Sandara will be moving around, inviting you guys to sit with her if you don't do so yourself and has convinced Rosie to join your little party.
Jasmine Rose
Jasmine nods appreciatively, "Thank you, I'd like to stay and visit more but" flicking her wrist in the air as if using a whip,"I fear the lashes. We will chat more later." Taking her bird, she smiles and makes her way towards the door.
Jasmine Rose
Jasmine sits with Sandra, Rosie and any other of the other recent recruits. "Thanks for the help this morning,"directed towards Rosie,"Seems like Scourge, and his thugs, may try another attempt." Jasmine is visibly tired from her day of work. Think I may hitting my hammock early toight. Her figners instinctively ruffle Flotsam's feathers. Content to listen for the time being.
Seijiro
Seijrio finishes his day's work with a look of contentment on his face as he climbs down out of the rigging. I may hate this ship, but I do enjoy the fresh salt air and the roll of the ship under me. He walks over to Sandara, Jasmine and Rosie and joins them, waiting for dinner to be served up.
"Hullo," he nods to Sandara and then to Rosie, "dun think we've met proper-like. I'm Seijiro. You've quite a mouth on ye girl. Thanks for helpin' put those wags in their place this mornin'" He idly scratches himself as he talks, in actuality checking on his tools and daggers, making sure they are all still hidden away where he put them.
Amerdan Stormspeaker
Amerdan silently joins the others with his food in hand, pausing a moment before deciding to sit instead of stand as he did the day before.
The cool darkness of the bilges turned out to have been something of a blessing as his work in today in the burning sunlight had thoroughly sucked the life out of him. The dark charcoal smudges around his eyes are even more pronounced than they were before.
He nods in silent thanks to Rosie before eating.
