DM Shisumo |
Your roll is you caster level plus your casting stat modifier. The DC is 15 + (2x spell level), or 17 for color spray.
The best spot for hitting the most targets is E9, and three opponents threaten it. Currently two of them are prone and entangled, meaning that they are suffering a -6 penalty to their attacks, but the third is a standing and angry wererat. You will need to decide if you would prefer to risk the AoOs instead...
DM Shisumo |
Galyna's shot misses high, and the bolt careens off of the far wall, sending a few rock chips flying.
Miet steps up in front of her and begins an arcane chant, carefully timing her gestures so as not to leave herself open to any attacks by the nearby Tower Girls. A wave of colored lights bursts over the opponents with dazzling fury.
TG #1 Will save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
TG #2 Will save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
TG #3 Will save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
TG #4 Will save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
WR #1 Will save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Suddenly, most of the foes are unconscious; only one of the Girls still struggling to free herself from the remnants of the table and Shiv's lycanthropic opponent are still awake.
Duration of unconsciousness: 2d4 ⇒ (3, 4) = 7 rounds. The affected targets are marked with asterisks on the map.
The one Tower Girl who managed to cover her eyes in time to avoid the magic tries to wiggle free of the heavy wood.
Escape Artist: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Once she is free, she grips her blade tightly, hoping to block any blow, and begins to rise to her feet.
The TG goes full defense and stands. This provokes AoOs from Oscar and Miet (if she threatens), but the prone AC penalty is negated by her full defense action. Once the AoOs are resolved, everyone can go again. Don't forget Erwin's bless spell...
Oscar Salt |
"Not so fast there". "Don't like it too much when the 'tables are turned' do you". "Ha ha ha"!
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 AoO
1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 Damage...
I'll swear, Oscar never hits in combat...
Then once the girl is standing...
"Shoulda stayed down".
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20 Warhammer posing as a fan attack
1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11 Damage
DM Shisumo |
Sleep hex save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
The wererat sneers at Kassandra's magic, but its Tower Girl companion is not so fortunate. Although she manages to reach her feet without giving Oscar the opening he needs, it turns out it was a feint - the backswing slips past her blade and into her side, crushing ribs.
Severus "Shiv" |
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
The slippery rogue spins around his opponent, "Someone wit' somethin' silver git over here and stick this thing!"
Move to D11. Delay his attack until someone comes up to give him flank. He'll stop in C11 if that proves better for his flank buddy.
Rapier attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 3 + (4) = 12
Crit confirm Rapier attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Ellantera |
Ellantara hustles forward, silver dagger and shield readied, and provides the flanking partner her brother requested.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 6 + 2 + 1 = 17 Flanking, Bless
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
If she counts as Humanoid (Human), I have a favored enemy bonus of +2 to the attack and damage, too.
Never mind, I don't think I will be able to attack after the move. Ellantera won't try to tumble in, so she provokes for that last step.
DM Shisumo |
Attack of Opportunity: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13, damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Ellantera runs up, ducking a sword cut as she does, and feints at the wererat. As the lycanthrope dodges, Shiv stabs it between the shoulder blades, and even though its wound is more shallow than it might have been, it still squeals in pain.
Miet, Erwin, Galyna still to go.
DM Shisumo |
The remaining conscious wererat shifts to the side, away from Ellantera's silver blade, and slashes and bites at Shiv, seeking vengeance for the wound he inflicted on her.
Short sword: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12, damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5; bite 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (13) - 1 = 12, damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
The rogue blocks her attacks with quick strikes of his own, and the rat's eyes flick toward the door behind her.
You guys again.
DM Shisumo |
Ellantera steps up to keep the pressure on the last wererat, and she, Shiv and Oscar all attack it. The lycanthrope is fast, though, dodging Shiv's stab and letting her armor absorb the impact of Oscar's hammer. Ellantera, however, can sense the workings of the human mind behind the ratlike face, and gets her dagger's point deep into the wererat's shoulder.
I assume Erwin and Miet at least will continue tying up thieves; Uraisa? Kassandra? Galyna?
DM Shisumo |
Badly wounded and with the feel of silver in her veins, the wererat breaks and tries to make a run for it.
Withdraw action, tumbling to avoid AoOs from Oscar and Shiv after the first step. Acrobatics on Oscar: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25; Acrobatics on Shiv 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26. I'll go ahead and allow Galyna a held action attack on her, regardless of the AoOs though.
DM Shisumo |
The wererat takes two steps - and then a bolt catches her in the throat. Although not silver, the missile is fired with more than enough force to drive it home, dropping her. After a few moments, the body shifts and warps, lengthening and losing bulk until a dead Varisian woman, her throat torn out by a crossbow bolt, stares blankly up at the stone roof of the Crow.
Combat ends. 300 XP each. What now?
Uraisa Ellsworth |
"We need to head back and make a copy of the Thassilonian mural on the wall from a couple rooms ago. The Society wanted us to record them, if you remember.". Uraisa headed back to make a quick sketch, and write in it exactly where is was located in the tower.
DM Shisumo |
The passage to the west reaches a T-intersection very quickly. To the north, the room is basically empty, although there are patterns in the dust suggesting boxes and barrels were being stored here until recently; the room to the south looks to be a privy and trash heap. Not a pleasant experience.
The passage south, though, looks like a campsite: a small cook fire has been built in the center of the floor with spits holding the sizzling carcasses of two donkey rats. The broken scraps of a crate now serving as fuel are stacked nearby, and blankets have been pushed together into a large bedroll. There is another passage leading out to the southwest.
Severus "Shiv" |
After looting each of their captives Shiv will give each of the rooms a once over, including the campsite and bedrolls. He settles down to tear off a well cooked thigh of a donkey rat while the others try an pry info out of their captives. Grease running down his chin, "Hey Salt, you want a slab o' rat?"
DM Shisumo |
The Tower Girls, whether wererat or not, each carried a smokestick, two tanglefoot bags, studded leather armor, a shortbow and 20 arrows, a short sword, hooded lantern, oil, and a set of thieves’ tools. All but the two wererats also had a climber’s kit, grappling hook with 50-foot silk rope, and a second-story harness. Together, the six women had 90 gp in various coins on them.
The first Girl to wake up is the surviving wererat. Despite the potency of her hybrid form, though, she doesn't seem to have a lot of iron left in her spine, given that she is still bleeding from Uraisa's spells and can smell the silver on Ellantera's blade.
"Ayala's downstairs," she answers sullenly. The words are twisted growls coming from her muzzle. "Don't know any more than that. We weren't allowed down there. Ayala said it was because we needed someone to guard the entrance, but it's just because the rest of the Girls don't like us." She seems rather bitter about this. Her beady eyes flick to Kassandra when the witch asks her question, but all she does is shrug awkwardly in her bindings. "Just supplies. Food, mostly, but some clothing and other stuff too. It all got moved downstairs when the main camp was shifted down."
DM Shisumo |
"I don't know... a dozen? Maybe fourteen? We don't keep a census," the wererat grunts. She looks sideways at Ellantera, then shrugs. "Who knows? Ayala's not exactly the most stable person I know."
Miet Silverback |
Sense motive
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Miet steps up
"Listen I know this is probably not the best of introfuctions and I can understand not being in a cooperative mood but please tell us everything you know. You said it yourself your boss is unstable and the rest of them dont like you so there's no reason for any of you to have to hold back information to protect them."
Diploamacy check
1d20 + 14 ⇒ (10) + 14 = 24
