Raoul closes his eyes and puts his hands palm-to-palm. He mutters a brief incantation.
Using Diviner's Fortune on himself. (Gives +1 to a skill, ability, attack and saving rolls for 1 round)
Raoul then makes an attempt to ascertain the nature of the injury that this 'Maurit' currently suffers from.
Heal: 1d20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 + 1 = 21
"So, Maurit, what is it that you suffer from?"
He makes a move toward the woman, hands splayed in front of him in an effort to show that he means no harm.
So, I just re-checked the PRD, and I it doesn't state that you can ascertain an illness that a character is suffering from with the Heal skill. But I think it makes sense. :)

"Yes, I will lead the way, what do you seek?", her demeanour rather excited again.
"Suffer from? I don't know... but I feel ill, and so very very hungry" she confides.
Raoul is not sure what she is suffering from, but it is plain that this woman is gravely ill as he inspects her, she allows the approach, and Raoul is amazed someone in such poor health could possibly be standing upright. Her sickness looks as though it should have been fatal.
She starts moving towards the entry to the dungeon.

![]() |

Maurit staggers up and pauses at the entryway.
Attached to the north wall at this corridor junction is the relief carving of a giant face. The relief is that of a Qadiran man with a billowing beard. His eyes are closed, and his lips are parted, as if he were blowing out a flame. His lips frame a deep hole in the wall. The paint once adorning the relief is chipped and faded, but traces of its brilliant blues and pristine whites are still visible here and there. On the man’s forehead is a single Kelish word, carved in a flowing script.

Grogson looks over the stonework, which while impressive for human hands, is not up to dwarven standards. Never taking his eyes off the female guide, Grogson stays in a state of readiness for potential ambush.

![]() |

Although he can't put his finger on it, something about the face and the rune leaves Grogson a little uncomfortable.
Anyone speak Kelish?
Doesnt look like it.
Jivokun was curious about the statue so he stepped closer and retrieved a sunrod from his pack as he did so. He cracked the tube and shined the light inside the hole made by the stones carved lips.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16

Raoul, not satisfied with Maurit's claims of friendship, keeps his distance from her. Noticing the carved face on the wall, he approaches slowly with his hands infront of him. He closes his eyes and murmurs softly.
Casting Detect Magic

![]() |

I'm the linguist, but sadly I went for other racial languages instead of regional ones. No Kelish here, although I can have Shifty make my Linguistics check (+6) to decipher it anyway.
Pozuket shrugs and tucks the rations away, following behind this strange woman. Not that all humans aren't strange, but she's strange in a new and fascinating way.
As they reach the purported entryway, the gnome studies the stone face carefully. Then he approaches it, takes a deep breath, and mimics the statue's face as he blows into the hole.
Can we see to the back of the hole? And if not, is it large enough for me to crawl into?

![]() |

Raoul detects magic and notes that the relief is indeed magic.
He also notes that the strange lady has a few magic items.
With the sunrod in place, you can see the back of its throat, about arms length deep. Pozuket notes it would probably fit a reasonable size animal, but not a gnome, well not in one piece anyway.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 - Pozuket determines it is the Kellish glyph for 'Air'.

![]() |

Shrugging and well aware that the question was out of his league of expertise; Jivs spun a dagger in his hand as the brainier types contemplated.
"Maybe it doesn't really mean anything?" Or at least, I mean; it won't keep us from continuing on right?"

![]() |

Raoul continues to examine the face, but has no concrete understanding of it.
"Well, this relief is magical, and I would venture that this word, in Kellish is it, may activate this device. Who knows what it is for? I say we continue on. What do you say, left or right? My choice, for what it's worth, is left."

![]() |

"It translates as 'Air', I believe. Or maybe something approximating that. Not a big surprise, considering the shape that this fellow's mouth has been given. Probably intended on blowing away attackers or some such." He frowns. "Or invasive Pathfinders, for that matter. I am quite curious as to whether it would still work, since that may intimate to us as to whether there are likely to be other defenses in working order."
After hearing about the spider, he nods to the left. "I'd vote left, myself. I am in no hurry to encounter a spider that's likely as big as I am. Not including its legs."

![]() |

Raoul is a bit taken aback by Maurit's warning. "Well, so if a spider is to the right, what sorts of horrors can we find down this way?" he says while motioning down the left-hand hallway.

![]() |

"Well, Maurit, we're looking for a jade katana, among other things. But at this moment, my most pressing concern is regarding what lurks in this ruin that may kill us." At this last statement, Raoul keeps a close watch at Maurit.

![]() |

Raoul gives some thought to this new claim. "Well, if that is the case, then perhaps we should go to the right. Pozuket, I trust that you can remain out of harm's way of the spider, should it really be there. You just support us, as you did on the last assignment, with your wonderful performance."
Changing my vote to go right

The party pushes right and Grogson advances on towards the corner. The door in the north wall looks fairly routine and lacks any obvious locks, being merely an internal door.
As Grogson reaches the corner he sees a long, narrow room choked with webs. Within the webs are a number of what appear to be small, dead humanoids with dark, scaled skin, each wrapped in a cocoon of sticky webbing.
Being wary and alert from the warning given by the sickly Pathfinder, Grogson spies the Giant spider in the corner and readies his sword, simultaneously alerting his companions to the danger.

Jivs cursed when the word came back through the group that the spider had been spotted and he was lagging behind. He made his way through his companions; activating his wrist sheath as he did so.

Jivo didnt like the idea of getting stuck in those webs and he surely didnt like the idea of getting stuck in line behind Slagtoes...although I would be able to see over him quite easy... The half elf smiled mischeviously and drew another dagger. He moved forward as far as he could go before risking the webs.
Can we tell where the webs start/stop?

Pozuket moves up to the corner, peeks around it, and shudders, stepping back. (F2) "Ugh. There's just something about a spider that's taller than I am..." he mutters to himself. Aloud, he continues, "Slay this foul creature quickly, my friends. Before it can sink its fangs into any of us."

Grogson is free of the webs, as his strength was enough to force his way through... regardless, the spider is now pretty much confetti as Poz just nailed it.
With a flurry of activity, swinging blades, and flying projectiles, the spider comes to a full stop. The spider is no more. Everything is still.
Next to the remains of one of the two dead kobolds wrapped in the webbing is a small purse containing 30 gp and a pearl, which Pozuket determines is a Pearl of power (1st level).
Now occupying the room proper, there is a visible staircase to the east.

![]() |

Raoul sheathes his bow. He looks at the prize that Pozuket has identified.
"Ah, a Pearl of Power. I could find this quite useful. Do you mind if I make use of it?"
As he looks around the room, Raoul makes a point to use his Mage Hand cantrip to clear the cobwebs from the stairs on the eastern wall.
"How is everyone faring so far? I don't think that spider stood a chance at all. Maurit? How are you feeling? Are we going the right way?"

"I'm fine minus the missin' out on the battle."Grogson says in a grouchy tone that seems humorous to the others. "But there'll be more to be sure. I'll continue to take point. Let me move ahead of ya by about ten feet and move with five foot intervals between ye."
