Keeping in tight to stay clear of the glistening mold, you are able to move past it without incident, although Kishara is certain she saw it moving when you drew closer.
This cramped chamber stinks of something worse than rotten eggs. A black mildew covers the walls and the three doors that lie beyond the entrance. Each has a small metal slot at its bottom, but the latched covers long ago rusted away.
The smell is overpowering and stomach turning, and your last meal is planning a rematch.

Kishara pulls the neck of her shirt up and tucks her nose under it, breathing in the warm smell of her vanilla creme perfume that she dabbed in her cleavage to avoid turning rank in her armor. She was grateful for it today, though even the smell of her own sweat would have been preferable to the moldy stench of mildew.
She points out the glistening slick on the wall. "Don't get near that wall. It moves..." (Where is it on the map, Shifty?)
Kishara moves through the room carefully, focusing on the small rooms to the west. 'Now if I were a trade document, where would I be?'

Clarifying MAP - Blue = team, Yellow = contaminated area.
It doesn't take long to search the cells, Within the cells are remains of three prisoners — those unfortunate prisoners left here when fortress came down. Now nothing but bones and tattered possessions remain.
Among the remains in the cell closest to the prison’s exit is a letter in Tian. The letter’s paper is brittle and browned with age, its broken seal features a kirin flying amid three clouds.

"Concur, Yhen. Shall we check out the corridor next? That fountain at the end of the hall may be just that - or it could be the warning X on Maurit's map...but we should check out the doors and what lies beyond them. North door first, since that is the closest one?"
Grimaldus will continue to use his brightly shining sword how long does that spell last, anyways? to light the way.

![]() |

Grimaldus will look around for anything interesting without moving too far into the room, holding the lighted sword out to shine as far as possible. "Anyone else see anything?"

As the party enters, a couple of them note a few spots of soft red glow amongst the rubbish pile... there appear to be three large glowing bugs buried in there.
You would notionally be able to spring a surprise round - bugs are clumped in that pile in the NE corner.

![]() |

"Contacts in the rubbish pile there. Anyone have a burning desire to go digging through that pile of rubbish? If not, let's leave the glowing bugs alone and close the door behind us as we check the room to the south of us..." Grimaldus says, pointing to the northeast corner and backing out of the room.

Kishara backs away from the room after finding it already occupied and turns her attention east, examining the area ahead for traps.

Sorry, I've been a little unclear what is going on. I guess in Society games you don't go for the critters unless you need to since the XP gain is the same regardless? And now we have one room left to explore and we're done? Kishara wanted to try blowing into that alcove near the entrance once we're on our way out, just to see what happens. =D

![]() |

Kish cracks the door for a peek.
The large room immediately to your front looks like it was once a scribing chamber. The remains of many desks are scattered about, and amid
the rubble is a number of long-dried inkwells, other writing utensils, and scraps of paper. These things are covered with black mold and patches of light green mushrooms.
In the further room, three rounded alcoves contain the rotting remains of scroll shelves, honeycombing from floor to ceiling. Scattered amid the compromised shelving are damaged scrolls, and a number of still-sealed scroll tubes. A glimmering trickle of water seeps down from the ceiling in the northwest corner of the room.
Between the rooms, Kishara spots a strange froglike creature with glowing eyes moving about.

![]() |

"This room we need to investigate...but that creature must be neutralized first." Grimaldus enters the room slowly, keeping his eyes on the frog but clearing room for the rest of the party to enter.

![]() |

"Ranged attacks from here - Kish, Moll, Aegon. Yhen, you can 'soften it up' with your magic if required. Mandrak and I hold the line if it approaches and engage it in close combat. If it lasts longer than this, we are in an open area and can flank the creature. Agreed?"

![]() |

If you stay in the corridor, one person will have an unobstructed shot through, whilst those on either side would have to shoot around a doorway (which is annoying). Alternately you could try rush the room, but at some point the creature is likely to pick up on the movement and run in.
If you'd like, give me a breakdown on the order of play and I can do the initiatives (and relevant delays etc).

I was going to suggest that Yhen can try to Evil Eye to soften up the AC a little bit, or she can cast enlarge person on one of the fighters so they can charge the guy and hit it hard. I'm fine with either of the ideas lol!

The party bursts in and goes to work.
Aegon gets no trace of Evil from the creature, but then again, neither does a rabid rottweiler - he's certain the thing is decidedly unfriendly.
Kish attempts to spit the creature, but finds no luck in her attack.
Grim and Moll would have readied attacks, but Mandrak and Kish running past rendered that moot, so are free to continue onwards.

Wrong skill for this one Yhen, however I will apply the right skill and keep the roll.
Grimaldus misses with his heavy blade, but Moll steps in and slices it hard. Mandrak follows suit, tagging it with a rending blow!
Yhen remembers what the creature is just in time, beseeching her companions to look away just as the creature turns its impossibly bright gaze upon the party...
+2 situation bonus for the warning.
