After reading up on those items I don't think any of them would really be super beneficial to Briana except maybe the Ring of Minor Electricity Resistance.

Not that I'm advocating divvying everything up right now what with Arsith and Teldon both preoccupied with RL stuff; just spitballing a bit is all.

Hey, thanks for your patience (and concern)! We had a couple days here in the mid to high 90s (around 36-37 C, I think) and I am not well suited for the heat. I rarely wear more than a sweatshirt even in those (in)famous Buffalo snow storms, but apparently doing anything at all when its really hot out will give me heat exhaustion. It took a while to get over the dehydration that came with that but I'm feeling much better now and should have a post up tonight.

I'm going to be out of town for the weekend but I should be able to post regularly from my phone.

Sorry for disappearing again. I was at an outdoor music festival Thu-Sun of last week. I was set to pick up again Monday, but routine medical exam turned up something potentially scary. I spent Monday at the hospital having tests run, and I've not been in much of a gaming mood as I wait for the results.

Okay, as per this post, I'm planning on retraining a couple fo feats. GM Zed, how much gold do I need to spend on that? Based on your reply, I don't have to go through finding a master and just need to retrain as part of leveling up, right? I'm also planning on taking Fighter(Unbreakable) for my 7th level class, not that I think that'll affect anything besides Joanna.

I'm also glad we're almost done here because I want the old Halli back already! I'm tired of playing paranoid Halli and want to have the mischievous puppy back.

I probably won’t have time to actually level up until Friday but I’m looking over stuff now. Instead of a feat I get a magus arcana (from VMC Magus) and I’m debating between arcane accuracy (which lets me add my +5 Int bonus to attack rolls for 1 round if I spend an arcane point) or a familiar (which might be more fun, especially as sort of a manifestation of his relationship with Briana, but probably isn’t as useful... although, I could get a pretty big bump to perception from it). Other than that, I just have to pick an investigator talent and a pair of 3rd level formulae to learn and everything else is just adding a point to something and updating the new total.

@Arsith- so far I don’t think we’ve ever had enough downtime to craft anything significant (so you might want to consider that in your decision)

Alright... a little crowd sourcing... I’m hemming and hawing a bit on deciding between fun/cool/interesting abilities and stuff that will actually help in combat; I welcome any feedback on the following 2 decisions.

Magus Arcana
Arcane Accuracy- I have 7 or 8 arcane points and usually only use 2 or 3 each day (to up the enhancement bonus on my spear), so 3 or 4 times a day I could give myself an extra +5 to hit for 1 round...
or
Familiar- I’d take a cat for the RP with Briana/Rowenna, but I’d give it the figment archetype so it would actually be sort of a magical manifestation of my own mind. It would have some flexibility in terms of abilities (because the archetype gets a small pool of evolution points) but I would mostly use it mechanically to pump up my perception check

Investigator Talent
Empathy- I’d get to roll twice and take the better result whenever I rolled sense motive (which is maybe less useful for me since I always take 10 if allowed) and once per day I could spend 1 inspiration to read someone’s mind as if using detect thoughts
or
Inspired Expertise- whenever I successfully ID enemies I could spend 1 inspiration point to grant everyone +4 to hit for one round (which could potentially make for a very successful first round of combat)
or
Item Lore- I could ID magic items as if using detect magic... which sounds kind of lame but I can’t actually cast detect magic at all, and even though an item that let you use it won’t be super expensive (if you could find it) it would probably be a while before I had enough extra gold for something like that

I think I’m kind of leaning towards splitting the difference and going with familiar for the arcana and inspired expertise for the talent but, like I said, input would be appreciated!

Hum....to be honest, even when you aren't able to Take 10 (which you otherwise *always* do) you destroy skill checks most of the time so I wouldn't worry as much about investigator talents like Empathy. Similar thoughts on Item Lore though that's more because there are a couple of us in the party that can help ID magical items.

I do think that Inspired Expertise could be awesome since you, Jo, Arsith, and Shadlah all pack a hefty punch when you hit your targets. Arcane Accuracy is also useful but I'm generally in favor of abilities that help the group be better as opposed to helping just you/just a single target be better.

And of course I think the Familiar option could be a lot of fun, especially with Rowenna and Halli and Shadlah's little friend! So...if you're able to take an Arcana and the Talent then I think your initial choices would be the best combo of fun and useful :)

Teldon: I would agree with Briana and Jo for your L7 options. It would be interesting for Teldon to have an imaginary friend that everyone can see!

Zed... I have a question about leveling up and the cleric variant multiclass options...

The level 7 secondary ability for VMC cleric is "channel energy". Unfortunately, I didn't read the fine print when I was making my calculations: The effective character level is "level -6", meaning that I'd be doing a 1d6 channel energy. The amount of energy channeled will advance with level, but will always be a very minor ability compared to the character level and appropriate threats.

Would it be OK if I took regular feats instead of swapping out the Channel Energy and Improved Channel Energy VMC secondary abilities?

Options I'm considering...

For my new hex, I'm thinking of Disguise. This allows her to use disguide self for up to 6 hours per day, in one-hour increments. I was thinking that would be useful to appear as her old self when interacting with people who used to know her... plus all the normal advantages of that spell.

Thoughts?

  • Physical Prowess: I'm not sure what to do here - Con seems like the obvious choice, but I've been having a hard time hitting lately. Is that because we've just had a string of high-AC enemies and I've been rolling like trash, or is my to-hit actually terrible?
  • +1 to BAB (total +5)
  • Expanded element: Earth is the obvious choice here. That gives Shadlah Metal blast (burn 2; bludgeoning, piercing, or slashing damage; 8d6+14+CON damage) and an infusion or utility wild talent of her choice (I chose the Snake infusion, allowing her to blasts to follow a path of up to 120 feet, allowing her to avoid cover - useful, since we have so much melee in this party!)
  • Skill points: Perception, Climb (x2), Acrobatics, Knowledge (dungeoneering), Appraise, Craft (sculpture)
  • Feat: Weapon focus: kinetic blast. Yaaaaay. Niiiiiice and boring.
  • Burn: now takes 7 points of nonlethal damage when accepting burn, and can accept up to 9 points per day.
